in los angeles, and yes, those oscar parties are still going on. this year's academy awards, there were no big surprises, just lots of golden statues, a-list celebrities, and memorable music performances. "oppenheimer" won the biggest awards for best picture and best director. >> we don't know where this incredible journey is going from here, but to know that you think that i'm a meaningful part of it means the world to me. >> reporter: "oppenheimer" star cillian murphy took home his first statue for his role as j. robert oppenheimer. >> for better or worse we're living in "oppenheimer's" world. i would really like to dedicate this to the peacemakers everywhere. >> reporter: his on-screen nemesis robert downey jr. won his first oscar for best supporting actor. >> i would like to thank my terrible childhood. and it wouldn't be the oscars without political moments. some attendees wore artists for cease-fire pins, pro-palestinian protesters gathered outside the dolby theater ahead of the awards, and host jimmy kimmel jabbed back at former president donald trump after he criticized him on a post on truth social. anne-marie? >> thank you very much. sounds like a great show. this week both president biden and former president donald trump could win enough delegates in primary contests to secure their party's nomination. the two 2024 frontrunners have already pivoted toward a general election rematch holding dueling rallies over the weekend in georgia. cbs news correspondent naomi ruchim is joining us now with the details on that. how did it look this weekend? >> reporter: good morning to you. here we are on the eve of another round of primary contests. it's clear the choices for american voters are pretty much set. now president biden and former president trump are working to win over voters in swing states

with plans to spend big money to reach those who are still undecided. >> get out the vote -- >> reporter: stumping in georgia over the weekend, president biden and former president donald trump previewed their likely general election rematch, trading barbs while pushing voters to the primary polls tomorrow.d ump and the maga republicans are trying to take our freedoms away. >> let's send crooked joe biden packing. >> reporter: with immigration remaining a top issue this election season, the current and past presidents both addressed the killing of a georgia nursing student allegedly by an undocumented migrant. speaking to msnbc, president biden expressed regret for referring to the suspect as a, quote, illegal, during last week's "state of the union" address following criticism from some in his party. >> i shouldn't have used illegal, i should have undocumented. >> reporter: trump later bashed biden's comments. >> he was an illegal migrant, and he shouldn't have been in

our country. >> reporter: trump also slammed georgia's criminal case charging him with trying to overturn the 2020 election. >> this whole witch hunt should be put out of its misery and dismissed immediately. >> reporter: president biden kicked off a multistate blitz the day after his "state of the union" address starting with pennsylvania on friday and georgia saturday. today he heads to new hampshire and later this week wisconsin and michigan. the biden campaign says it raised $10 million in the first 24 hours following his "state of the union" which is sure to come in handy with the campaign planning to spend $30 million in new ads. in a new ad out this weekend, president biden addresses a concern for many voters -- his age. the ad, in this ad the 81 looks at the camera and says "i'm not a young guy, that's no secret." on the other side, former president trump is 77 years old. in recent polling, a significant number of the voters said they were worried about the mental and physical fitness of both candidates.

>> thank you so much. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu is fighting back against president biden's criticism that his policies are hurting the jewish state. the prime minister says an overwhelming majority of israelis support the policies. netanyahu also vowed to defy biden's red line warning against an invasion of the southern city of rafah where millions of palestinians have taken refuge saying his priority is to prevent another october 7th. a u.s. army ship is on its way to the mediterranean with equipment to build a temporary pier to help get humanitarian aid into gaza. the operation is expected to take two months to complete. meanwhile, a ship with 200 tons of food aid is set to depart cyprus on the first test of the sea corridor. hundreds of palestinians gathered at the al aqsa mosque one of islam's holiest sites

to see the crescent moon rising which marks the start of ramadan. hamas and israel are blaming each other for not reaching a cease-fire deal before the start of the holy month. the united nations security council is scheduled to hold an emergency session today to discuss the u.n.'s report detailing the sexual violence that hamas likely committed during the october 7th attack and on hostages still in captivity. and breaking news overnight in the middle east as yemen's branch of al qaeda announced the death of its leader. khalid al batarfi had a $5 million bounty on his head from the u.s. government. the, is of his death -- the circumstances of his death are unclear. he led a group in the peninsula, a dangerous branch of the group still operating after the killing of osama bin laden. in haiti the violence is worsening as gangs try to overtake the government. yesterday the u.s. military said it had flown in forces to increase security at the u.s. embassy in haiti and allow

nonessential staff to leave. the gang leader who organized last week's uprising is calling for haiti's prime minister to resign. the prime minister is in puerto rico, and he is unable to return. powerful winds created a mess on the roads and in the air for millions in the eastern u.s. sunday. those winds pushed coastal flooding on shore in the beach town of hampton, new hampshire. they also drove intense lake-effect snow into parts of western new york. there were extensive flight delays and cancelations up and down the east coast. orlando had more than 600 delays and nearly 100 canceled flights. atlanta saw close to 100 delays while jfk had more than 300 delays. the winds will gust 45 to 60 miles per hour today across the northeast with flight delays expected from maine to virginia. coming up, door blowout investigation. why the justice department is stepping in after that alaska airlines incident.

"the portland press herald" says a back country skier was killed on new hampshire's mount washington and two others were injured. the u.s. forest service says a

20-year-old skier died after falling 600 vertical feet down a steep bowl called tuckerman ravine. the other skier suffered serious injuries after falling and hitting rocks and ice. the accidents happened sunday amid extreme icy conditions. the area is popular with experts looking for back country adventure. the "ap" reports on the victims of a deadly helicopter crash during a border security mission in texas. two national guard soldiers and a border patrol agent were killed when the chopper went down friday. the soldiers are chief warrant officer two john grassia and chief warrant officer casey frankowski,the new york national guard border patrol agent is identified as chris luna. another national guard soldier was seriously injured, and the cause is under investigation. "the new york times" says national guard soldiers won't carry long guns while checking bags in the new york city subway. governor kathy hochul made that decision shortly after announcing hundreds of national

the justice department is investigating that alaska airlines door blowout in january. investigators have contacted some passengers and crew including pilots and flight attendants who were on the flight. part of the investigation -- whether anything that led up to or contributed to the malfunction could effect the deferred prosecution agreement boeing entered into with the justice department in 2021. this is reminiscent of what we saw with cups made by stanley around the holidays. now these trader joe's totes are selling out nationwide after some tiktokers posted about them. they cost $2.99, but they're being resold for hundreds of dollars on line. people have been swarming the storms as soon as they hit shelves which began last month. and the panda is tops as universal pictures prepared for a big night at the oscars with "oppenheimer." the studio also celebrated the number-one debut of "kung fu panda 4" at the weekend box office. it took in about $60 million
