leaders held an urgent meeting yesterday in jamaica to discuss ways to halt the violence in haiti. blinken announce an additional $100,000 from the u.s. to the race for president now and a shake upof the national republican committee engineered by dip. donald trump. dozens of staffers are being pushed out ace his allies and daughter-in-law take over. cbs's jarred hill is joining us right here in the studio from the campaign trail. >> these contests are largely a formality at this point, right, but they likely will still earn president biden and former president donald trump enough delegates to comment themselves as either party's nominee, but with no major challenges left in either race, both candidates are in full general election mode. today voters in georgia, hawaii, mississippi, and washington state head to the primary polls. >> personally, i just want a republican in the white house.

>> i just hope the democrats will come out and vote. >> reporter: yesterday president biden was at a campaign office in new hampshire where he's likely to continue to draw the line between himself and his likely 2024 gop rival former president donald trump. >> while i was down in georgia working on health care, he was with viktor orban who talked about democracy being a problem. >> reporter: trump defended his meeting during an interview on cnbc. >> i get along with him very well, friendly. but i have respect for him. >> reporter: in the same interview the former president suggested he was open to cutting entitlements like social security and medicare to save money. >> there is a lot you to do in terms of entitlements, in terms of cutting, and in terms of also the theft and the bad management of entitlements. >> reporter: president biden has released his fiscal year 2025 budget proposal which includes plans to shore up the benefits. >> i will protect and strengthen the social security and make the

wealthy pay their fair share. >> reporter: but it won't likely pass congress. amid reports of massive layoffs at the national republican committee after trump allies were put in power they released a statement saying, quote, it's not a good sign. so the candidates are on the campaign trail this week. president biden heads to battleground states wisconsin and michigan while former president donald trump is due at a rally in ohio. the special counsel investigating president biden's handling of classified documents is set to testify before the house committee today. it will be the first time robert hur has addressed the public since his report last month cleared biden of criminal wrongdoing but raised questions about his mental awareness. the report criticized by the white house characterized biden as an elderly man with a poor memory. to gaza now where the muslim holy month of ramadan is on the way.

an international charity says its aid ship set sail a short time ago bound for gaza. this is a test for the opening of a sea corridor to supply aid to the territory. cbs's chris livesay reports from jerusalem. >> reporter: with cease-fire negotiations failing, israel says it's mobiliziing for an offensive on rafah, a stronghold, but refuge to 1.5 million palestinians. prime minister benjamin netanyahu is vowing he'll push ahead arguing any friction with the u.s., israel's biggest ally, emboldens hamas. >> to the extent that hamas believes there's daylight between us, that doesn't help. >> reporter: president biden has been sharpening hit criticism of netanyahu over the loss of life in gaza. >> he's hurting rather than helping. it's contrary to what israel stands for. >> reporter: israel insists it will allow a major evacuation of

by mentioxican criminal organizations. now to a royal photo scandal that has sparked controversy and conspiracies when it comes to the princess of wales. while kate middleton is taking the blame for the manipulated image, the palace is refusing to release the original version, raising more questions. cbs's charlie d'agata reports. >> reporter: the controversy started innocently enough. a family photo of the princess of wales and the smiling children to mark mother's day here in britain, but then came the kill orders from several global news agencies like the "associated press" saying it appears the photo had been manipulated at source and apparently not very well. observers noted more than a dozen inconsistencies, a sleeve that didn't line up with charlotte's wrist, a skewered zipper on kate's jacket, and her blurred hand around leouis.

>> a massive jolt happened. i looked up to see the gentleman that was sitting next to me on the roof of the plane and then he came crashing down to the floor. >> there was people scared, screaming, crying, and lots of -- lots of injuries. >> the plane landed safely in auckland. ten passengers and three crew members were taken to the hospital, one in serious condition. earlier reports said the plane's flight control system temporarily malfunctioned. there are arrests at a bus stop shooting and tragedy on the highway. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the "chicago tribune" reports five people were killed when a school bus collided with a semitruck in illinois. authorities say the bus crossed the center line on a highway yesterday for an unknown reason and into the path of the truck. both vehicles caught fire. all four people on the bus were killed. three children ages 3 to 5 years old along with the driver. the truck driver was also killed. say two teenagers face several charges including attempted murder in the shooting of eight high school students at a bus stop. the two 18-year-old suspects were arrested over the weekend. surveillance video shows three masked people jumped out of a car and opened fire on students waiting for a school bus last week. it may have been connected to a deadly shooting two days earlier outside a high school. and the "sun sentinel" says a crocodile bit a man near a marina in florida's everglades national park. officials say the 68-year-old man was attacked after he fell off his capsized sailboat saturday. he was trying to swim to the dock with his boat when witnesses saw him go under water. the man resurfaced on his own though. park rangers treated the man for a cut on his leg. wild life officials are monitoring the american crocodile, which is listed as a threatened species in the u.s. still ahead, statue
