with you. i'm anne-marie green. we are not even halfway through the presidential primary calendar, and the stage is set for a sequel to the 2020 election. a sequel polls show most americans really don't want. after contests in four states, cbs news projects that joe biden and former president donald trump have enough delegates to officially become presumptive nominees for this year's presidential election. cbs' jarred hill is joining us with more on last night's big but somewhat predictable vote. >> reporter: buckle up because we are in for a long general election season. as you mentioned, no huge surprises in the primary but we are getting a look at how president biden and former president trump could fare in some key battleground states come november. the stage is set for the 2024 presidential election after president joe biden and former president trump won enough delegates to become their parties' president trumptism

president for five hours over two days in october and wrote that the president forgot key dates like when his son beau died. but a 258-page transcript of the interview shows the president remembered the month and day, may 30th, just not the year. after the report was released last month, the president blasted hur. >> referenced that i don't remember when my son died. how in the hell dare he raise that? >> reporter: hur explained -- >> the need to show my work was especially strong here. the attorney general had appointed me to investigate the actions of the attorney general's boss, the sitting president of the united states. >> reporter: several republicans accused hur of letting the president off easy. >> all i have to do when i'm caught taking home a classified material is to say i'm sorry, mr. hur, but i'm getting old, my memory's not so great. >> reporter: in the hearing, democrats also repeatedly called out the differences in the biden and trump documents cases. the current president had about

80 documents in his possession while the former president had more than 300. it's a point that hur had also made in his written report. ed o'keefe, cbs news, the white house. well the house is set to vote today on a bill that could ban tiktok in the u.s. the legislation would force tiktok to separate from its chinese-based owner or face a possible ban. lawmakers are concerned about u.s. national security because of tiktok's ties to china. yesterday users, influencers, and tiktok's creator lobbied congress to reject the bill. >> this app is so much more than just an app for dumb tiktok dances. when i hear these elected officials literally mock and make fun of tiktok and its creators, i'm disgusted. this -- this is a life-changing app. >> president biden says he'll sign the legislation if it passes, but its fate in the senate is uncertain.

boeing is promising to make changes after a government audit found dozens of issues in the company's manufacturing process. the faa conducted the audit after a door panel blew off an alaska airlines jet in january. the agency said it reviewed 89 aspects of production at a washington state plant, and it failed 33 of them. the former -- a former boeing employee, john barnett, who raised safety issues in a whistleblower lawsuit was found dead in his truck saturday in south carolina. the coroner's office says it appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. the parents of an american israeli soldier got the news they have been dreading -- their son, who they thought had spent the last 157 days as a hostage, had been dead the entire time. itay chen was just 19 years old and on duty the morning of october 7th when israeli officials say he was killed. his body was taken to gaza. his family, who had been prominent in the struggle to get hostages back, say they will not be give up the fight. cbs' chris livesay reports from

jerusalem. >> reporter: itay chen was only 19, a life cut short by the hamas massacre of october 7th when he was serving in an israeli tank unit. the israeli american was long thought to have been taken alive by hamas, among more than 240 hostages. earlier in the war, cbs news spoke to the parents, his father carrying an hourglass to remind the world that time was running out. >> i'm just a mom that wants our son back home where he belongs. >> the most frustrating question that you could ask yourself when you are exhausted and before you fall asleep, you ask yourself have i been productive? have i moved my son's release an inch? an inch forward? >> reporter: they became outspoken activists pressuring prime minister benjamin netanyahu to reach a cease-fire deal and leaders around the world not to forget those trapped in hamas' tunnels. >> do whatever they can to bring

our loved ones back home. >> reporter: israel announced new intelligence revealed only their son's body had been taken hostage, killed on october 7th. an emotional national security adviser, jake sullivan, recalled conversations with his family. >> this hits hard for us, this news. >> reporter: that leaves five americans still presumed alive among 134 hostages in gaza. itay chen's bereaved parents say they will continue to fight for their return. they're also fighting to get their son's body back. it's still considered a hostage as well as a hamas bargaining chip. his parents won't hold a funeral until they get it back. chris livesay, cbs news, jerusalem. the white house says the pentagon will rush about $300 million in weapons to ukraine after finding some cost savings in its military contracts. meanwhile, a stark warning from russia's president today.

japanese company to put a satellite in orbit. the uncrewed rocket was carrying an experimental government satellite. no word on what caused the explosion. scott peterson makes a court appearance, and a house is leveled in pennsylvania. those are some of the headlines on the "morning newsstand." "pittsburgh post-gazette" reports a man and a woman were killed in what officials call an absolutely extreme house explosion. yesterday's blast northwest of the city obliterated the house and could be felt more than a mile away. surveillance video shows it set off a fireball. at least two other homes were damaged. investigators say there was a private gas well and propane tanks on the property. the "los angeles times" says nearly 20 years after he was convicted of killing his pregnant wife and unborn son, scott peterson appeared virtually in court seeking a new trial. the l.a. innocence project has taken up his case and wants new dna testing on evidence including materials left at the scene of a break-in across the

street from the couple's home. peterson is serving a life sentence without parole for killing and dumping his wife laci's body in the san francisco bay in 2002. and "texas tribune" says the uvalde police chief resigned days after a controversial report cleared city officers who responded to the robb elementary school shooting. chief daniel rodriguez was on vacation when a teenaged shooter killed 19 students and two teachers in 2022. a report by the city acknowledged mistakes by police but cleared officers of wrongdoing. hundreds of heavily armed local, state, and federal officers waited more than an hour before confronting the teenage shooter. the resignation takes effect next month. still to come, rocking again on spotify. why neil young is returning to the popular streaming platform. this thing? it's what's going on inside of me. it's my moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. it wasn't always this calm uc went everywhere i did.

new numbers show consumer prices rose again last month. the labor department said prices rose 0.4% from january to february, a sign inflation remains a challenge. as for what was driving those numbers, gas prices, air fares, and clothing was more expensive, while housing and rental costs cooled in february. a big partnership in the retail world. the parent company of babies 'r' us says it plans to bring baby gear, furniture, activity, and more to over 200 kohl's stores by this fall. kohl's says it hopes this will bring in a younger clientele to the department stores. the announcement comes after babies 'r' us began closing stores back in 2018 after its parent company at the time, toys 'r' us, filed for bankruptcy. and cracking down on copycats. "the new york times" is taking on wordle clones.

here's a look at the forecast in some cities around the country. ♪ former ufc fighter mark coleman is fighting for his life after jumping in to save his family from a house fire. according to his daughter's post on social media, the retired mixed martial artist rescued his parents from the burning home in his hometown of fremont, ohio, yesterday. he tried to save the family dog, but he could not. espn reports he suffered from smoke inhalation. another woman has come forward alleging director roman polanski raped her when she was a minor decades ago. the now-90-year-old polanski has been in exile in europe since a similar account of sexual assault on a minor surfaced in 1978. polanski's lawyer denies the latest allegations.
