6:16 am
not be a serious or significant storm. but if we look at the rainfall totals we will come away with a wide range of possibilities within this manageable range. watch what happens when we look at the first model. this is more conservative. from friday going through monday, we pick up a half an inch of rain. for friday, saturday, sunday, monday, for four days. half an inch of rain. it is not the concerning amount. this is the model that has done a little better with just about every storm. this one is a lot more bullish and it says that in that timeframe from friday through monday, we could get an inch and a half of rain. that certainly sounds like a lot more and it is but over four
6:17 am
days it is manageable. an inch and a half, we can do just fine. we have had far more impactful storms over the course of the winter. when you look at the seven-day forecast, there is the rain showing up friday and going into the weekend. look at the daytime high for oakland on monday near 70. look at the other microclimates, san jose, 76 on monday. it will stay there until it gets pretty much toward the middle part of the week and our final microclimates for the inland valleys you will be in the mid 70s to start the week, low 60s by next weekend with some rain. ♪ it was green as far as the eye can see on market street on saturday afternoon. aspects gather near the civic center plaza to celebrate san francisco's 173rd annual st. patrick's day parade. the replays, music, and a lot of irish pride that the family can enjoy. the city of dublin enjoyed its 40th annual st. patrick's day celebration as well. hundreds of people came out to honor the city's irish history. and to enjoy the beautiful weather. if you did not make it out yesterday, the festivities continue today from 10:00 until 5:00 p.m. with the actual st. patrick's day now upon us, the city of chicago is making sure it's river is colored in a appropriate way.

welcome back. here is a live look at sfo on the sunday morning. as many of you know the past few weeks have been pretty bumpy for air travel. the latest incident happening on friday. united flight from san francisco with 139 passengers on board , landed in medford, oregon and upon its lending investigators discovered it was missing a panel. a boeing 737. last week there was the incident of a flight losing a wheel during takeoff from sfo. this morning we have a lot of questions and we are joined live by scott miller, commercial airline pilot and aviation lecturer at san jose state university. good morning. >> good morning. >> thank you for taking the time this morning. the first question that comes to people's minds when they see these incidents midair and upon
6:41 am
landing is safety. as a commercial airline pilot yourself, how do you feel about safety in the skies right now? >> i feel the united states air travel system is the safest transportation system , not only in the united states but in the world. we have enjoyed a very good run of accident free flying , were even though a lot of these incidents appear to be occurring, i think one of the reasons we are seeing so many of them is simply the attention that is now being focused on aviation, as a result of the 737 max issues and of course the max line losing the door plug. >> the latest incident with this line missing a panel underneath the plane and we have some video . how significant is something like that? do these things just happen? are they midair emergencies ? how would you describe the situations. >> in this particular case the
6:42 am
aircraft losing the panel and the crew was not aware that the panel was gone until they had landed. and during the post flight inspection realized, it was gone. in terms of safety to the actual aircraft, there was very little impact to it and the aircraft was able to land normally, taxi to the gate and everyone was able to the plane. obviously you don't want pieces falling off your aircraft is your flying. united airlines will conduct their own investigation and figure out perhaps the last time the equipment underneath that panel was serviced and try to determine why the panel came off. >> you and i spoke about this last week and there is a newfound interest in these incidents. do you think that may be more incidents are happening or is there just more interest in them they are happening at the rate they always have. >> these rather -- keep in mind the airlines are always looking to improve safety. and they certainly will look at
6:43 am
these incidents that are occurring and try to figure out what went wrong to prevent it in the future. but the actual rate of these minor incidents that are occurring is staying about the same as it typically does month over month, year over year. there has not been an increase and the increase of focus because of the recent problems, particularly now that there is so much video available of these things that occur, it makes for compelling watching. i certainly understand that. we are seeing more interest in more focus on these issues. >> a lot of the issues have come from planes that were boeing manufactured planes and they are facing a lot of scrutiny right now. for that company specifically, what do they need to do? from your perspective to clean up some of the image. even if it is not necessarily worse than it was, there is more attention on it, how do they convince the public that everything is actually going to be okay?
6:44 am
>> that is occurring right now with the process that the going through with the federal aviation administration and the ntsb. doing their audits of the manufacturing up in the seattle area and also wichita with their subcontractors and their plants in south carolina. taking the recommendations that the faa is making, incorporating them into their business and being quite transparent about it , i think will do the most in terms of restoring trust in boeing aircraft. >> final question. brief advice to travelers , who may be where he to hit the skies? >> don't worry. the airlines are doing everything they can in working with the manufacturers to make sure we maintain the highest level of safety. enjoy your spring break and summer trips this year. >> scott miller, thank you for joining us this morning. >> my pleasure. thank you. sunday will be just as
6:45 am
nice as your saturday was. look at the numbers behind me. there is no difference . more blue sky than anything else and when you climb into the low 70s, we are anywhere from five to seven or 8 degrees above average for this time of year. it is very nice. especially since it is the first burst of incredibly nice low 70s we have had after what is bennett fairly busy winter. if you look at the numbers it was just an average winter. let's talk about how tomorrow is a little different. when you look at monday morning , i want you to see how we are really changing the seasons around here. look at the marine layer tomorrow. classic outline. see what is going on? it is filling all of the interior valleys of the bay. there is napa, the valley along 101 through petaluma valley and the petaluma gap into santa rosa. that is castro valley going to the tri-valley. it is filling the whole santa clara valley. i could go on. this is
