hi, i'm sara donchey. so we have seen a few of them. picket lines can tend to look the same. you've got the striking workers, the signs, the chance, and a lot of times the demands sound kind of similar too. higher wages. everybody wants that. more staffing. that kind of thing. but this strike today in daly city called out something different that sounds like the ultimate irony. 400 healthcare workers say their healthcare is so bad it is actually putting them at risk. they're demanding the hospital reverse recent changes to its healthcare plan. they say starting in january, they were given an impossible choice. bay $6,000 to keep seeing their regular doctors or accept a much more restricted plan that severely limits access to pediatric and ob/gyn care and only at a few select facilities. >> i've been trying to get an

mri myself, and i have been unable to get authorization for that because they don't want to take their own workers here as patients. >> another worker tells our kelsi thorud the new plan is limiting coverage for her family. >> reporter: rochelle otua has worked here for years. she grew up just blocks from the campus. but now rochelle says she's in a tough spot. she says the hospital changed its health insurance provider significantly limiting where rochelle's family including her six-month-old daughter can get care. >> her pediatric doctor was no longer covered. and my ob is not covered. we are now out of doctors. >> reporter: rochelle lives in sunnyvale. she says her new

insurance only works at seton and john muir health. both of which is close to or even more than an hour away. she worries night and day about what would happen and how much it would cost if her daughter had medical emergency. >> i grew up with chronic asthma. i actually have a food allergy. right now at this point, what stresses me out the most, we're starting her on baby food, so she is learning how to eat baby food. i'm afraid that what if she has an allergic reaction to some kind of food? what if she ends up having asthma like me? >> reporter: she told me she feels betrayed. >> i work full time for a hospital. and it is not fair that i have to worry on whether or not i can afford to get my daughter proper healthcare. when i give up how many hours of my day instead of being home with her. i have to be at work.

>> reporter: that's why she joined hundreds of her coworkers on the two-day strike outside the hospital. demanding better benefits. she told me she's doing all of this, picketing, speaking out for one reason and one reason only. to make sure her daughter has the medical care she needs and deserves. >> i'm only fighting for my daughter. that's one of the main reasons why i'm in this strike. >> reporter: rochelle plans on coming back out here, joining the picket line again on tuesday. she says she hopes this strike shows the hospital just how serious these workers are about making these changes. so for its part, they have offered a 16% pay hike over three years, along with free and medical benefits, and up to 400 hours annually of accrued pto. they added in the statement, we are disappointed with the union's decision to walk off the job in the middle

of our negotiations at the expense of patient care. the hospital went on to say their priority is to provide uninterrupted care to patients. and do you know who else is on strike? a's fans. their team faced the giants tonight in a preseason battle of the bay. a's fans have been through a lot with the teams impending move to vegas, and all the drama that has come with that. as if there wasn't enough bad blood between the people and team ownership. fans are calling foul on a move to change the rules around tailgating at the coliseum. how they're fighting back. >> how long have we been coming here? it's been a while. >> reporter: for the hangman family, the a's have been a generational affair. they came to kick off the season with some tailgating. but when they got here, the new hours took

them by surprise. >> yeah, we were confused with the two hours. we thought we were able to get in four early. so we got here a little early. we just had to wait. >> oh god, yeah. so we had a feeling they were going to do something like this, right? i mean we anticipate their moves they make them. >> reporter: joe hanson is one of the founders of the last dive bar, fighting the a's departure for a couple of years. the front office does not show up the love, but they will show up by packing the parking lot for the regular season opener with a massive tailgate just suggested to all the empty seats inside. the shortened lot hours are a response to that plan. . >> well, it will tell us that

they are trying to thwart the effort. they want less people in that parking lot for the least amount of hours as possible. >> reporter: this is how the potential final chapter in oakland will begin for the a's. on ground that hosted another long good-bye. not too many years ago. >> oh yeah, it's like the fans crying. this is super sad. it's a dismal day. >> it wasn't as tough as this. this is a slow drawn out vindictive relocation process. >> i don't know about the boycotting, but regardless, we are still here. because we don't know if it will be the last season or not. we don't know where we are going to be in a year from now. >> the a's fans who stayed in the parking lot are probably glad they did not go in. we'll have the highlights later in sports. p. diddy is one of the biggest names in hip hop. today the feds rushed into two of his homes, raiding one in l.a. and another in miami. u.s. officials told cbs news it was

a part of a possible ongoing sex trafficking investigation. jeff nguyen picks up our coverage from l.a. >> reporter: the lapd will not allow traffic to go up this hill after federal investigators left the scene. so far they are not sharing a lot of details about what went down here. earlier from our chopper, we could see a large number of agents showing up with plenty of gear. federal investigators cleared out of the hills monday night. where earlier they captured numerous armed federal agents with helmets and tactical gear during a raid. according to real estate records, the property's ownership is under bad boy films, a part of the various enterprises founded by sean diddy combs. the moguls home in l.a. and miami have been raided by investigators. cbs news confirmed through law enforcement officials, this is a possible sex trafficking investigation. . >> there are rumors circulated in the media about the wild sex

parties and the things that he makes other people do to become famous. >> reporter: according to zillow, the house is more than 13,000 square feet with nine bedrooms and 9 1/2 baths. estimated values, $39 million. ryan mendleson has lived nearby. coming in and out of the house. >> and some were in bikinis from the club, coming from the club, or where this is happening. some were wearing dresses, see through skirts. >> reporter: in miami, a tactical communication truck similar to the one used in los angeles was brought to diddy's home there. agents were also heavily armed as they questioned people. >> federal agents would execute search warrants simultaneously to make sure that they don't want anybody in los angeles calling people in miami and vice versa to say the feds are here. >> back in the hills, they captured a number of people being led out of the home in handcuffs. at one point, several people were detained on

cops. he made it all the way from miami to fort lauderdale before he finally gave up. that's 30 miles, no word on why he was running to begin with. now staying in florida for another heartbreaking stunt on the road, the canine on the 75-foot bridge before the human partner pulled them back. the dog's name is zeppelin. and he and his deputy walked back to his car after an arrest, and he weighs 120. he's thankfully able to catch him right there and pull them back up. that looked rough. but the dog was not phased at all. if you're planning to hit the beach any time soon, you'll want to watch your steps because it won't be just sand squishing between your toes. the electric blue jellies are washing up for the point raised down by orange county. they are not actually jelly fish, but the relatives known as by the sailors,

that's their name. they would live most of their lives out in the ocean. and the reason why they are showing up now is because they got their name. >> and they would have tiny sails on their bodies, which they used to move around and migrate. by the wind. and when they are blowing onshore, like in the spring and early summer, we would see a lot of them washing ashore. >> they would get the color from their food and it will help them stay camouflaged in the water. when they wash up, they dry out and they lose their color. they are harmless to humans, but they can still deliver a mild sting. . >> i've always heard the instructions of what you're suppose to do when that happens. i don't want an fcc violation, but i don't know if that works or not. >> it is a friend's episode of that back in the day. >> i have never personally experienced that kind of remedy. i mean i guess. . >> i mean the year is young. and just in the summertime here. >> thank you so much. >> it is good to have goals.

let's take a look at what happened as we head to the last few week. patchy fog will dissipate quickly. sunny, pleasant conditions on tuesday before the wet, cooler pattern reemerges on wednesday. the first storm system moving in on wednesday, wednesday evening. a stronger wind will head our way on friday into saturday. just an unsettled pattern taking us through easter weekend. while we get the sunshine tomorrow, it will help the electricity generation numbers towards the top of the scale on tuesday because we will see blue skies over the days. and as the clouds will return with eventually the chance for showers. another view looking to the east from salesforce tower. you can see the clouds developing. and everybody between 50, 55 degrees. there will be a whole lot of variations by early tomorrow morning. everybody between 40 and 50. coolest spots in the north bay valleys. the warmest locations around the bay and into the santa clara valley. but everybody within a few degrees of normal for late march. let's take a look at

those forecast highs for tomorrow, which will also be within a couple of degrees of normal. into the upper 60s for san jose and morgan hill. all these numbers, a few degrees warmer. especially antioch getting up to 68 degrees. that'll be one of the warm spots. the cool spots, 58 degrees. only a 10-degree difference there. low to mid-60s in the bay including 61 degrees in san francisco. it is 1 degree below average. we can handle it. temperatures reaching up into the mid to upper 60s by tomorrow afternoon. but these are some of the warmer temperatures that we're going to experience for the next several days as the rain chances are going to return. let's track it with futurecast with an increase in cloud cover after the sun goes down tomorrow night. but we will see more clouds and sunshine as we begin the day on wednesday. and shower chances are going to increase. hit or miss shower activity. very light stuff at first. becomes widespread as we head through wednesday afternoon into wednesday evening. light to moderate rain. no flooding threat with this system. it will move out by wednesday night with lingering off and on

showers. still in the forecast on thursday. it won't be a washout, but one of those days where you need to keep the umbrella handy. the next storm system will be lining up, heading in on friday with heavier rain and gustier winds. but the winds will be noticeable on wednesday. i don't think that they will be that strong for the strongest winds, mostly in that late afternoon and evening time frame through tracking the winds here at 11:00 a.m. on wednesday through 5:00 p.m. on thursday. and the gustier conditions on friday, not likely to prompt the wind advisory, but may be worth noticing as they head into easter weekend. the first storm system, it is not going to be a huge rainmaker. a tenth of an inch of rain on the widespread basis and a few spots overachieving on that. not much on top of it with the lingering showers on friday. and then thursday's system will be more substantial and there will be more rain adding up on top of that on saturday with the potential for a little bit of localized flooding where it san

excessive rainfall according to the prediction center. not a huge cause for concerns, but we will keep an eye on things to be on the safe side. so one more day with our coastal to inland difference in temperatures, but only a 10-degree swing. after that, everybody is about five degrees of each other. just one seven-day forecast for the whole bay area and a five-day stretch of unsettled weather that will take us from wednesday and easter sunday, with the drier half of the weekend will be sunday and still not going to be entirely dry. and be flexible with any outdoor plans that you'll have for the holiday. we should dry out for the month of april next monday. >> come on, man. >> sorry. >> okay. that's fine. . and an unusual court battle playing out if san francisco tonight. why pickleballers say multi-millionaires with their own pickleball courts got them banned from the public ones. and this will not be a featured sport when the olympics come to paris this summer. it's

news headquarters in new york. we're coming on the air this hour with some breaking news out of baltimore. this is where the francis scott key bridge has collapsed after one of its columns was hit by a cargo ship. the baltimore city fire department says it is unsure how many vehicles were on the bridge when this happened, but there was a tractor trailer on it. take a look at this video. cbs's jarred hill is here with jarred, this story just so dramatic. >> this is unbelievable, chanel. looking at this video where you see the ship hit one of the columns and the bridge collapse into the water. what we've been learning over the past few hours as we've been speaking with some of the officials there. as of now they're searching for 20 people potentially from some interviews this morning. again, this happened around 1:30 this morning or so, a.m. darkness is making the search

much more difficult. you can see how black the scene is. a large ship, again, hit a column. the bridge collapsed. no word on the cause or exactly what happened in this situation. that's something that's being investigated. this is being referred to as a mass casualty response, although, no word on if there are injuries or fatalities here. >> we're looking, we should note, a live picture of a very fluid operation. jarred, can you walk us through the search-and-rescue operation at this hour? what's happening on the ground? >> we know dive teams have been dispatched to the area. we know this is a river that crosses the harbor in the baltimore area, and so we know that there are multiple agencies as you can see a lot of the flashing lights. but, again, the fact that this is so dark and happening in the water is making a lot of this that much more difficult, that much more harrowing of a search. >> what about the number of people we now know might be

missing? >> at first check we heard somewhere around seven. the latest numbers we're hearing potentially double that, around 20 or so people. we do know, again, there was little traffic on the bridge. this is 1:30 in the morning on a tuesday. so not a up the of people were there, but there was at least this tractor trailer and potentially some other vehicles. we we're hearing of reports of multiple vehicles falling in the water at the time of this bridge collapse. again, we're waiting for more information, likely waiting for daylight as these crews are able to get a better feel for exactly what they're dealing with. >> we can see lights and sirens in these live images of the scene from baltimore this hour. jarred, you mentioned it's a multi-agency response to the incident. what does that mean? who's involved here? >> we do know baltimore city fire department is involved with this. there's also been conversation with coast guards seeing as how this is happening in the waterway there. we also know that the baltimore

city mayor as well as the county executive for the county of baltimore has been -- have been in contact. they're both on their way there. we also know the governor of maryland has been contacted regarding this as well. you've got to remember this is a bridge that is used by a lodge of people to get not only around the baltimore area, but there are some pretty major airports in the area, and so the baltimore washington international airport has been telling people to use alternate routes if they need to get to the airport this morning. so this could cause some pretty significant headaches for folks in the area as well. >> i wanted to ask more about this area. my understanding is it serves as a substantial link. what's happening around the boroughs? >> again, this is a key bridge that is utilized by people in this area around baltimore. it's not the only bridge that's there, so it's not a situation where, you know, people are completely cut off, but it will

definitely make a commute more difficult. this is also a relatively -- as you can see, this is not over the top of a highway. it's not in the middle of a city. but this is a bridge that is utilized be i a lot of folks in the baltimore area on a consistent basis. >> jarred hill, thank you for this information. we appreciate this. let's go live now to our nicole sganga who ease 's live ground. i know you just got there, but walk us through what you're seeing there. >> reporter: a multi-national recovery way. a harrowing scene. up to 20 people plunged into the water. an outbound cargo ship collided with a main support beam of the francis scott key bridge here in baltimore, and multiple vehicles in the water as well as a tractor trailer and a boxcar. there's just a massive effort

underway by first responders, federal, state, local law enforcement including dive teams that have been deployed, the u.s. coast guard, state and local police, the maryland transportation authority, a top priority right now. of course, those rescue and recovery-efforts, but we should point out this is a major thoroughfare. this partial collapse stalling a 1.5-mile bridge responsible for transporting approximately 11.5 million vehicles every day along that i-95 corridor connecting florida up to maine. and, nicole, it's really hard to see in our live shot right now because it's still dark at this hour. can you tell us what you're seeing on the ground? >> reporter: yeah, we're currently in the media staging area, and everything is cloaked with darkness, but we do see first responders, we see

multiple vehicles, state and local police, but, again, very difficult to make out the scene. just sirens piercing through the darkness here at the port of baltimore. >> and the darkness must also make this a challenge for those rescue workers who are on scene. can you talk a bit about the response? >> reporter: we know that right now u.s. coast guard, dive teams, as well as personnel from baltimore fire department are in the water. they're searching for up to 20 individuals as well as a number of vehicles that, again, were plunged into the water during this collision happening at approximately 1:30 a.m. this morning. and so, really, these rescue and recovery-efforts are ongoing. that count has changed as the morning has sort of kicked on. initially we were hearing from law enforcement seven people. that number has gone on. law enforcement and the fire

department are trying to get a handle on how many people were impacted. a tragedy. a silver lining, this did not occur at rush hour, of course, happening at 1:30 a.m. when this was limited traffic on the francis scott key bridge. >> nicole sganga, thanks so much for reporting. we appreciate it. again, a major portion of the francis scott key bridge in baltimore has collapsed overnight after being hit by a cargo ship. you're looking at a live scene. cbs news will stay on this story. our coverage now continues on cbs news streaming. this has been a special report. i'm shanelle kaul, cbs news, new york.
