and 50s, 50 right now near napa, 48 in san jose. later this afternoon that will be one of the warmest spots in the bay area. here are the weather headlines. clear skies in the forecast, warmer temperatures into the afternoon and tomorrow will actually be gorgeous, close to the 80s in certain pockets of the bay area. but then for our thursday forecast, a cold front is moving in, bringing a series of showers, cooler weather and some gusty conditions for all communities in the inland areas. starting off with high pressure, that is keeping us dry and warm throughout the bay area. the storm system that brought in showers and thunderstorms is moving to the south . for the next couple of days, we will stay clear until

the cold front arrives thursday morning, bringing snow to the sierra and rain to the bay area. in a little bit we will talk about the rainfall totals. it will be a pretty active system moving in and it will look and feel a lot different outside heading into the weekend forecast. for now, at least the roads are dry. >> that's true. looking at the bay area bridges, starting over the east bay, westbound 92 out of hayward into foster city, no major delays in either direction. over at the golden gate, a certain amount of commuters heading toward san francisco. if you plan to head out from marin, you will make it a good time, the metering lights are on and you can see bumper to bumper traffic at the toll plaza bay bridge, damage from a rockslide has shut down part of highway 1 in big sur. it is south of the rocky creek bridge where a part of the road away. >> it was very pleasant to

discover that the erosion beneath the roadway remained in place from where it was the night before, so it was static and it had and continue to erode into the northbound lane. that was great for the service forest. >> caltrans says convoys will lead cars through the north and south direction from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. today and they are asking people to avoid any unnecessary travel to that area. time for a look at some other top stories. workers in baltimore have started cutting steel beams from the bridge that collapsed last week. one of the first steps toward reopening of vital shipping lane. high-powered cleanup equipment has arrived at the site which happened when the cargo ship hit the francis scott key bridge. the u.s. navy is applying four heavy lift

cranes to help remove up to 4000 tons of debris. authorities are also working to open an alternate channel for marine traffic but there is no timeline for when the port of baltimore can reopen. we know who was killed in a plane crash in the truckee silicon valley company up west. the couple helped up west get started in 2012 and has been working since advisers in 2017. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. taking a look at san francisco this morning where in just a few hours angry ride-share drivers plan to have caravans from uber and let's go. lyft says in a statement, it recently made several improvements including pay guarantees and improving the activations. businesses and families held a rally in front of city

hall on saturday and what they describe is a quest for a better city. before attending the rally one shop owner was cleaning up her clothing store after someone broke in yesterday morning. her story and more on the solidarity rally. >> reporter: the solidarity rally comes at a pivotal time for business owner taylor, especially after someone burglarized her store on sunday morning. she had thought about closing the store back in january. >> it does not make us feel ambitious about staying. >> reporter: surveillance footage shows around 5:30 a.m. someone used a hammer to smash the glass door and kicked it open. >> on easter to be violated in this way feels terrible. >> reporter: a thief took two large suitcases from the store and filled them up with women's clothing and accessories. >> no respect. and then they also took a full rack that

they rolled out. >> reporter: she lost roughly $20,000 in merchandise. the broadway store in downtown oakland is the flagship store. she has a second store in the rockridge district and says both have seen huge declines in traffic because people are afraid to visit oakland. >> we've built such a strong brand within the community. we want to be here and be successful and thrive here, we don't want to die here. >> reporter: that is why businesses and families rallied in front of city hall for a safer and better oakland. they said no politics, just unity. >> if we have a little more unity we can start listening to each other and come up with the with solutions. >> reporter: restaurant owner nigel says that while he thinks the governor for sending in chp officers and installing cameras, he could do more. he wants more officers to help patrol the city and a lot more money for crime prevention programs. he says alameda county and more large

corporations should also step in to help like providing grants to struggling small businesses and bringing workers back to the office. blue shield, kaiser, clorox and pg& e just invested $10 million to create a safe zone in uptown and downtown. >> structurally, if things don't change, and we have some real revenue generation going on in the city, a lot of this is will close very soon. >> reporter: nigel and taylor say if everyone works together they can resurrect the city. >> we are a little upset with oakland but we still love it. now a story of redemption for northbay men. michael woodson was convicted of embezzlement back in 1987 and now he is 82 and just found out he had been pardoned by governor newsom. he had already been released from prison but with this part and he feels a new sense of freedom. >> reporter: it is easter

sunday in downtown novato and well families gather to celebrate, one man's holiday is particularly special. michael woodson at 82 years old is spending this easter with his son after receiving a life-changing gift from call of -- governor california gavin newsom. >> this is the actual part in itself, and this is the work product you have to do in order to apply for a pardon with the governor. >> reporter: michael who spent five years behind bars is celebrating a new chapter in his life. on friday governor newsom granted clemency to dozens of individuals, including michael, with 37 pardons and 18 commutations. >> once you are in the system, you are in the system. and what happens with so many people that go to state prison, they are completely just pushed away from society. they sit over here somewhere. and that is why so many reoffend.

because with a felony, you can't be licensed. you can get a drivers license, but you can't, i mean, you can't get a license, to even cut hair, in california. >> reporter: he was convicted by a marine county court in 1987 with 13 counts of embezzlement and was accused of misusing $13.5 million from 400 investors. then it took more than two decades to get here. >> this was the binder i gave to the district attorney to prove all of the recovery of all the money. and this went up to sacramento also. they followed up with extensive documents and said oh, come on, this didn't really happen, did it? and i was able to prove it. being able to prove the recovery of $12 million more than we started off with, i

baseball is in full swing, taking a live look at the coliseum. the a's darted off hosting the cleveland guardians for a four-game series and while oakland lost their first three games, they officially got on the board yesterday via a walk off. paul blackburn was sensational. the antioch born dominated the guardians, punching out three and allowing three hits and a walk. he ended up getting a no decision as they were tied at three into

the ninth. pinch-hitter abraham toro drew up for pinch walk with a walk-off walk. they host the boston red sox later today. oracle park was empty this weekend and the giants start their season on the road. they played the home opener this friday against the padres. they just started off the opening series . and they are waiting to see when the cy young award-winning blake snell will make his debut. it was an example of why the rotation could use some bolstering. they called up jeffries, with nine runs through the first two innings. while he was on the mound. they made some noise in the fourth and seventh innings but not enough. the padres rollover the giants 13-4. they will face los angeles dodgers tonight at 7:10. taking a live look outside

this monday morning, the first day of april. let's make it a good one. >> it will be a good one. it's good weather. >> for a lot of people it is spring break this week and last week, and this weekend we did have that unsettled weather and it looks like it was an issue for at least one plane. >> let's take a look at this video behind me. a social media user in san jose shared this a video of a plane getting struck by lightning. it is kind of hard to tell from far away but is mw can see the bolt hitting the plane's wing and creating sparks next to it. luckily aircraft are designed to not see too many impacts when getting hit by lightning, it acts like a conductor, pushing the energy from the beginning to the end of the plane. luckily, that means no one inside was injured

. it is just really cool when we can get footage like that because you don't see it very often. here is what it looks like outside, san jose and the bay area, life -- high pressure offshore, leaving us with dry and warm weather. 70s throughout the bay area. today, 70s and 60s for daytime highs, warm weather, no matter if you live in the east bay or down in the santa clara valley where we have a beautiful start to the morning. beautiful sunrise off to the east. the camera is a little shaky up near black mountain. want to go into what's happening for the rest of the week. temperature outlook showing below normal temperatures for the weekend into early next week. a cold front is right around the corner. despite the fact that today is beautiful

with 70s and sunshine, we have active weather building in from the north, starting in the pacific northwest wednesday, sweeping in to the bay area for thursday, bringing in showers and snow to the sierra with the gustier conditions widespread through california. to add to that, it is moving in the north, so it is bringing in cooler weather. rain chances increase for thursday and they stick around a little for friday and then it starts to decrease for saturday . so a lot of changes right around the corner and we are here to keep you prepared. the next seven days on the models, tomorrow will be just as nice as today, sunny skies and a little warmer than today . once the cold front moves in for thursday, we dropped into the 50s with cloudy skies lingering into friday and another chance of showers in the early morning hours. starting to tear up as we head into saturday and partly buddy skies along the bay. repeat for our friends

along the bay, not nearly as warm in san francisco compared to areas like antioch. low 50s right around the corner into thursday. we have a few more incidents coming up on the radar map such as accidents, and slow conditions in certain areas. starting at south bound 880 in hayward. two lanes blocked due to a crash before the tennyson exit that is causing slow conditions as this is a major freeway for east bay commuters. this is a live look at paseo padre where you can see the amount of vehicles taking south bound 880 either to work or school. taking another look a bit later and check in to see if it worsens. 20 minutes after 6:00 and all around the bay area the weather cooperated for early morning easter egg hunts including a special celebration in the south bay that was created to cater to the unique needs of kids on the autism spectrum. this is the sunnyvale

bay area christian church. they say that they had a sensory friendly easter egg hunt that was not too noisy or too stimulating. >> we really wanted to do this because we feel like holidays are so special for kids, but many kids get shut out from being able to experience things like this because they can't handle crowds or the noise level so we really wanted to put something on that would be able to include all kids and give them a great easter experience. >> there were several sensory egg hunts at the sunnyvale church campus . all free and open to the public. how did you celebrate easter? was it anything like this? the tradition unlike any other in san francisco that you won't want to miss. here is a live look at side is we head to break. this is no joke on april fools' day.

from cbs news bay area, this is the morning edition. it is 6:30. taking a gorgeous look from our camera at the salesforce tower. you can see treasure island, gorgeous day for the getting of april. >> i was gone for the weekend, came back and i'm like, spring has sprung. it is amazing, take a week off from the bay area and here it is. >> i'm sure a lot of people are noticing it with their allergies, too. heading into this a beautiful month of april, lots of 40s in the forecast throughout the bay area, 50 near napa. and san

francisco, a similar trend. clear start to the day with 40s for just a little longer. clear skies into the afternoon and a similar trend for tomorrow. then a cold front moves in, that's for our thursday forecast. high pressure is sitting offshore, changing the direction of the wind and allowing clear skies to last for a little longer. that storm system that came in over the weekend , especially for the south bay, that is moving out today, leaving all of us with clear skies tomorrow into wednesday. then the cold front moves in from offshore, bringing in a series of showers throughout the bay area. i'm going to pull up the map because i want to start off with today, upper 60s in areas like san francisco and oakland with 70s that widespread through the rest of the bay area and inland areas like

antioch all the way down to livermore. into the santa clara valley with clear skies this morning, mild conditions and it will be beautiful heading into tuesday. i will have more on that in just a bit. >> the roads are looking pretty decent. let's check in with our super commuters at the altamonte pass. it is not great news, read further travelers going west on 280. there was a crash on the shoulder near the grant line exit. it is normally a hotspot during the workweek, so just be prepared if you're making that drive from tracy to livermore. maybe pop on a podcaster get your favorite album. very slow bumper-to-bumper traffic so far this morning and that is not an april fools joke, so just pack your patience. work is underway to open an alternate channel for shipping traffic at the baltimore area

near the francis scott key bridge after the bridge collapsed last week when it was hit by a cargo ship. six construction workers that were on the bridge at the time were killed. naomi rackham brings us the latest on the demolition, the cleanup and the next steps of reopening the port of baltimore. >> reporter: high-power cleanup equipment has arrived at the site of the key bridge collapse. with one lofty mission, clear channel and reopen the port of baltimore. the u.s. navy is supplying four heavy lift cranes to help remove up to 4000 tons of debris. the secretary of transportation spoke about the importance of the separation on face the nation on sunday. >> it has to be done. that is the only way to get into most of the port of baltimore. it is important not just the -- to the people of baltimore but to

the supply chains. >> reporter: it is still unclear when it will reopen but hundreds of thousands of dollars have been set aside for victims families along with $2 million in small business loans for companies that were put out by the collapse. of the six construction workers presumed dead, four remain missing including father of three, jose lopez. his wife isabel spoke through an interpreter. >> i feel bad, only god knows how hard my heart aches, maybe he was desperate, trying to escape. >> reporter: the collapse and subsequent cleanup redirected thousands of cruise line passengers this sunday who had to port in norfolk instead of baltimore and then board buses to their final destinations. those passengers, patient and keeping perspective as the crews have paused the search and recovery efforts to prioritize cleanup. time for a look at some other top stories. is really troops withdrew from the largest hospital in gaza, ending a raid that lasted

for two weeks. israel says it killed about 200 militants and detained hundreds more. hamas and islamic jihad have established a base inside the hospital, a claim that gaza health officials deny , coming at a time of frustration when tens of thousands of people protested, demanding that the prime minister do more to help bring home hostages. pope francis led an answer easter mass despite concerns over his health. he presided over the ceremony yesterday in front of about 30,000 people at st. peter's square. he was dealing with respiratory issues and skip some easter related events last week but spoke with a strong voice on sunday as he called for a cease-fire in gaza. and charles made an appearance on easter at the st. george chapel in windsor, his first royal event since announcing his cancer diagnosis. people lined up

outside of the chapel to express their well wishes. then charles and camilla headed toward the crowd to shake hands and wish them a happy easter. events across the country for cesar chavez a day to mark the leader's birthday. he cofounded the united farm workers union and spent much of his life advocating for better working conditions, wages and rights for farm workers. a parade and festival is set for april 13th in the san francisco mission district. march madness is nearing the end and after this weekend the field of 64 original teams has been reduced to the final four on the men's side. we got a cinderella story in the books, the number 11 seed nc state is looking to collect their first title in 40 years. they will have to take on possibly two number one seeds, uconn and purdue. and the number four seed alabama edged at clemson to earn its spot in the top four. this is what the

bracket looks like, how does yours match up? both final four games will take on on saturday, and then the national championship game is set for next monday. on the women's side, we have half of the final four ready to go, the number one seed south carolina and nc state. those two powerhouse programs will play each other on friday and the national championship game is set for sunday . we will have to wait until tonight to find out who will take the spots on the right. uconn will take on number one usc. one of the most anticipated rematches, the lsu tigers facing the number one seed iowa hawkeyes. lsu injuries helped to reach the recordbreaker herself. and this weekend, she assured people that contrary to what others might think, it is just a mental thing.

upper 60s for san francisco and across the bay bridge, alive look over into oakland. a beautiful, warm day for us today all the way into areas like petaluma and santa rosa. then taking a look at the long range models, it is worth noting cooler than normal weather right around the corner. not only in california but widespread throughout the west over the next 6 to 10 days. a cold front is moving in from offshore that will moving around thursday and at that point it will bring in a series of showers, cooler weather and of course gusty conditions. it is moving in from the north , the pacific northwest, so the sierra will get plenty of snow thursday into friday and we will get our fair share of showers and then we clear up into the weekend forecast. thursday and friday, the two rainy days. keep the umbrellas handy. into this weekend,

there is another chance of showers into early next week, but that is still a little bit unsettled. left with 70s for today and tomorrow, it turns cloudy and cool into wednesday and thursday and then look at the daytime highs, such a contrast to today, from 70s all the way down into the 50s. holding on tight into the 50s for friday on the inland areas. along the bay, san francisco, across the bay bridge into oakland, holding tight in the 60s, dropping into the 50s for thursday and 50s early next week. a few road closures you should know about. if you remember back in february that wrote in niles canyon that collapsed due to the heavy rain, on highway 84, the crews are working on that stretch allowing one way traffic. it

is a little sluggish, but not too bad. all lanes on highway 9 are closed due to emergency repairs between redwood gulch and pierce road. damage from a rockslide has shut down stretch of highway 1 in big sur. as you can see part of the coastal road broke away south of rocky creek bridge because of saturday's storm. >> it was very pleasant to discover that the erosion and the erosion beneath the roadway had remained in place from where it was the night before. it was static and it hadn't continued to erode into the northbound lane. >> caltrans says convoys will lead cars through the north and south directions from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. today and they asked people to avoid any

unnecessary travel to that area. sunday was transgender day of visibility, meant to be a day of awareness and celebration. people gathered at the phoenix hotel for brunch and a show. also a day to recognize what organizers say is an ongoing fight for equality. they say while legal protections exist in california, it is not the case in many other parts of the country. commercial crab fishermen have been dealing with later and later starts to their season for the past several years and now the state will be cutting crab season short on the other end. >> reporter: another year, another abridged crab season along the california coast. the department of fish and wildlife says effective april 8th, fisheries using vertical line gear along the mendocino line will have to call it quits for the season. the reason, entanglement risk for whales returning to the california
