lamborghini that was involved in the high-speed hit-and-run crash in dallas. and what went wrong? a giant piece of crane comes crashing down on top of a car. the driver's quick-thinking actions that likely saved his life. good morning, and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we're going to start with that ultimatum from president biden to benjamin netanyahu. protect civilians in gaza or else. hours after the two spoke the jewish state is taking quick action and approving the opening of three routes to get more aid into the territory. it was the first conversation since the israeli strike that killed aid workers with the world central kitchen. jarred hill has the latest developments on all of this. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. you know, based on what we know about this call from the white house, president biden stressed u.s. support for israel in the gaza war is not unconditional or guaranteed.

a sharp shift in tone that apparently is already leading to action. overnight the israeli government approved three new humanitarian corridors into gaza. the movement cbs news has learned was a specific request by president biden during his high-stakes phone call thursday with prime minister benjamin netanyahu. the white house says during the roughly 30-minute conversation the president made clear that u.s. policy with respect to gaza hinges on israel's immediate action to better protect civilians. the president also called for an immediate cease-fire. >> we will support and make sure that israel is never left without an ability to defend itself. at the same time, if there are not changes to their approach, it's likely we're going to change our approach. >> reporter: the aid routes include a reopening at the crossing in northern gaza which has been closed since the beginning of the war. temporary use of a port, and expanding the flow of aid trucks at the border with jordan.

>> there is no higher priority in gaza than protecting civilians, surging humanitarian assistance, and ensuring the security of those who provide it. >> reporter: this comes after a horrific israeli air strike killed seven aid workers with world central kitchen earlier this week. the group including a dual canadian-american citizen was driving in a safe zone in marked vehicles. israel says it was a grave mistake, and the results of their internal investigation will be made public soon. top executives with world central kitchen have called for independent investigations. democratic senator chris kunz is also calling for an independent review of the investigation. meanwhile, republican house speaker mike johnson criticized biden's call on social media saying the president, quote, should not undercut our ally amidst an existential threat by continuing our support. -- continuing our support. back to you. >> all right, jarred hill in new york. thank you so much. president biden is heading to baltimore today to visit the site of last week's bridge

collapse and meet with the families of the six victims. the president is also expected to ask congress to fully fund reconstruction of the bridge. it comes as the u.s. army corps of engineers says it expects to open a limited access channel to the city's blocked port within the next four weeks. officials also said they hope to restore full access by the end of next month. millions of people in the northeast are digging out after a powerful storm pummelled the region with more than a foot of snow. the storm toppled trees and power lines leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power in new hampshire and maine. at least four people were killed by falling trees. in new hampshire, officials believe a woman died when a tree fell on her home causing a propane tank to explode. two drivers were killed in pennsylvania when trees fell on their cars. and in a new york city suburb, the wife of a new york yankees executive died when a tree fell

on her car. the yankees put out a statement expressing the team's sympathy for the woman's husband and family. new details in that high-speed crash involving kansas city chiefs star rashee rice. his lawyer admitting rice was driving the lamborghini and is taking full responsibility for his role in the crash. cbs' omar villafranca has the story from dallas. report of a major accident on the freeway. >> reporter: kansas city chiefs wide receiver rashee rice taking full responsibility for his role in this multi-vehicle crash that took place saturday. >> he has fully cooperated with the dallas police department. rashee was not running from anybody, trying to hide from anyone, but wanted to cooperate which we've done. >> reporter: his attorney said rice admitted to police he was driving the lamborghini suv seen speeding alongside a corvette that led to a six-car chain-reaction crash on dallas'

north central expressway. photos showed rice and others walking away from the wreckage without stopping to see if anyone needed help. two drivers were treated at the scene, and two others were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. rice posted on instagram late yesterday saying, "i take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. i sincerely apologize to everyone impacted." the rising nfl star is from a dallas suburb. he was the chiefs' second round pick last year. his lawyer says rice will speak to the public soon. >> he's going to do everything in his power to bring their life back to as normal as possible in terms of injuries, in terms of property damages. >> reporter: dallas police are still investigating, and so far no criminal charges have been filed. the nfl says they are aware of the incident and are monitoring. the kansas city chiefs say they

are also aware but had no comment. omar villafranca, cbs news, dallas. former president donald trump suffered two legal setbacks in two separate criminal cases. in the florida classified documents case, a federal judge rejected trump's argument that the presidential records act allowed him to keep the documents because they were personal. and in the georgia election interference case, a judge rejected trump's argument that his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election were protected under the first amendment. well, if you're looking to book a last-minute trip to take in monday's solar eclipse, good luck. look at this map created by air dna, the company that tracks short-term rentals on airbnb and vrbo. that orange line shows the sky-high occupancy rates along the eclipse's path of totality. it includes hundreds of cities in more than a dozen states, but one small town in illinois can be considered the eclipse capital of the u.s.

cbs' roxana saberi takes us to makanda. >> reporter: call it a cosmic coincidence. in southern illinois the village of makanda is preparing for another total solar eclipse. >> there's two solar eclipses that will be criss-crossing. makanda will be in the center of the x. >> reporter: x marks the spot where the path of the last eclipse in 2017 intersects the one coming on monday. a phenomenon that occurs only once every 375 years. >> we've got port-o-potties coming, dumpsters. >> reporter: festival coordinator debbie dunn is hoping for thousands of visitors like last time when the moon blocked the sun for two minutes and 42 seconds. >> i actually got emotional. it was totally unexpected. >> reporter: back then artist dave dardis told cbs news' adriana diaz this orange line

construction worker was killed when part of a crane fell from a building onto a fort lauderdale bridge. authorities say a platform supporting the crane failed sending the worker and the crane crashing onto the bridge below. it landed on top of a car. the driver says he quickly hit the brakes. >> i just saw the front of my car just disappear. it just like sliced it. then the piece of metal bounced in the air, and then went to the right and landed on another car. all my airbags went off. and i just looked at myself. i couldn't believe that i was still alive. >> three people on the ground were hurt. the extent of their injuries is unknown. "cbs los angeles" says up to $30 million in cash was stolen from a money storage facility in the largest heist in the city's history. a source tells cbs news burglars broke into the building from the roof on easter sunday and gained access to a vault without triggering the alarm system. once inside, they cracked the safe.

federal reserve official signaled interest rate cuts may not come this year and investors await today's jobs report. the dow lost 530 points. the nasdaq was down 228, and the s&p 500 lost 64 points. if you shop at walmart, the company may owe you some cash. the retailer has agreed to a $45 million settlement over allegations it overcharged for weighted groceries like meat and seafood and bagged fruit. customers who bought those items between october 2018 and january 2024 now have two months to file a claim. those eligible will be entitled to 2% of their purchase, up to $500. an unexpected shift at x. elon musk's social media platform has begun restoring those complimentary blue checkmarks for some of its users. when he re-branded twitter as x he started charging $8 per month
