over the scene just moments ago, and it shows the group of what appears to be security lined up at 1 of the entrances there. this is happening just outside the shore line. amphitheater. and for months now protesters have been raising alarms. over. project nimbus. a google cloud project that provides a i technology. to the israeli government. now google has claimed the tech is not being used in weaponry or intelligence. gathering. but demonstrators accused google of war profiteering. comes as google has fired more than 50 employ. over recent protests. against project nimbus. those protests includes sit ins by google. employees. inside corporate offices in both sunnyvale and new york.

the sunnyvale protesters even set up a live stream, which showed police breaking it up. now we have reached out to google for a statement on today's protests, and we'll let you know when we hear back. we're also seeing more protests pop up at bay area college campuses. students here at san jose state has become the latest to set up an encampment calling for a cease fire in gaza. and for the school to cut any financial ties. with israel demonstrations are also taking place at uc berkeley stanford. sf state and sonoma state, among others. the state capitol. now we're governor gavin newsom will be paying close attention. to what's happening in half moon bay tonight. the city is under pressure to vote on a controversial farmworker. housing project. if they don't act they could face legal action. the deadly mass shooting last year exposed the poor living conditions for farm workers in the coastal city. photos showed somewhere housing storage sheds with no running water. now the proposed 40 unit

project would be built in downtown half boon bay on kelly avenue. there have been 2 marathon hearings with public comment. over whether this project is the right fit for downtown. but there's been disagreements over the size of the project and parking, causing delays and a postponement. of a vote to approve the project by the city's planning commission. governor, newsom says that the state could take legal steps. to hold the city accountable. at the project is not move forward.

commission will take up the house. issue. at the meeting later on this evening. meanwhile, the san francisco board of supervisors is voting today on whether to ban forever chemicals known as p f a s and firefighter gear. the epa has linked the chemicals to decrease fertility cancer risks and even developmental delays in children. most of the chemicals have been phased. out of consumer products, but there is still used in firefighting uniforms and foam. now if the band passes the department would have until july of 2026. to get new gear. the feds are investigating waymo due to crashes involving their self driving vehicles. the n h. t s received 22. reports of

crashing or violating traffic safety laws. waymo told us they are confident in the safety of their vehicles and committed to transparency. now this comes as a city is about to start testing autonomous rides on the peninsula for the past few months, people have been calling driverless waymo rides across san francisco. but now we're plans to expand down in the south bay at 1st, so it'll be waymo employees that can ride as far south of san mateo with plans to expand in sunnyvale. but the company is running into some resistance. as our kenny choi reports. some critics say the expansion is happening too fast.

now when we asked the company for a timeline on this way mode didn't give us an answer. but simply said that the expansion will take time. the company told us they will work closely with cities and 1st responders, to ensure they are offering rides that are safe and accessible. meantime, cruises is taking its robotaxis to phoenix. crews, which is owned by general motors will be soon begin testing self driving vehicles on public roads there, but the cars will have a human at the wheel just in case. the company lost its license to test in san francisco after 1 of its cars hit and dragged a pedestrian back in october. still ahead here at noon and streaming on cbs news bay area.
