arrest warrants sought. the world's top prosecutor accusing israeli and hamas leaders of war crimes. the fallout and reaction. and another round of severe storms moves across the plains with nearly 50 million people at risk. well, good morning and good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. we start with the stunning and chaotic development in donald trump's so-called hush money trial. the first defense witness will return to the stand today after the judge threatened to remove him. that followsedmore explosive testimony from michael cohen who admitted steal ling thousands o dollars from the trump organization. cbs's jarred hill joins us now in new york with the details. quite a day in court, jarred. >> you know, anne-marie, there's always something. the judge had already cleared the courtroom, so the jury did not see the tense exchange between him and the defense's first witness, former federal prosecutor robert costello, but there were plenty of other

fireworks as the trump team continues to chip away at michael cohen's credibility. this comes after a fiery monday on the stand. at one point judge juan merchan ordered the jury out of the room and reprimanded costello for talking over him, rolling his eyes, and making comments under his breath. >> the person that the jury most identifies with is the judge, so it's not a good thing for the defense to put on a witness where it's apparent that the judge is not pleased with that witness. >> reporter: the prosecute rested yesterday. in his fourth day on the stand trump fixer michael cohen admitted to stealing from the organization. in 2017 they owed a technology

but just like vladimir putin for his actions in ukraine, netanyahu could have a warrant out for his arrest in more than 100 countries. and president biden called the move by the icc prosecutors outrageous, but it could take up to two months for any arrest warrants to be issued as the court now has to decide not only whether to do so, but whether the case against the leaders of israel and hamas can proceed. imtiaz tyab, cbs news, east jerusalem. well, the world is watching closely on what happened in iran after the president of iran was killed in a helicopter crash. they started with prayers and a procession through the largest city in the mountainous region where the chopper went down. the u.s. state department calls the iranian president a brutal president to the iranian people.

>> reporter: in the dense fog at first light, iranian state media showed what was the crash sight of twisted debris. rescue teams pulled bodies from the wreckage, all eight people killed when the chopper came down in a remote mountainous terrain where president raisi and others had been on a trip. mourners gathered in tehran and in other cities across the country. but in cities like berlin and london, iranian demonstrators celebrated the death of the former prosecutor known as the butcher of tehran. on his watch as president, enforcing that brutal crackdown on dissidents following the death almost two years ago of the 22-year-old was detained for allegedly not wearing a head scarf properly, and that massive drone and missile attack against israel just last month in addition to backing hamas, hezbollah, and houthi rebels.

raisi was seen as a possible successor to the 85-year-old supreme leader ayatollah khamenei, but not the only one. khamenei's son is also considered a front-runner and now possibly a favorite. the u.s. state department said iran had asked for u.s. assistance after the crash but was unable to provide it for logistical reasons and dismissed action sanctions that u.s. was to blame for the helicopter parts. >> ultimately it's the government's decision to fly a 45-year-old helicopter in dangerous conditions. a majority of the 18 people indicted in arizona's so-called electors case are set to face a judg today including trump attorney and former new york city mayor rudy giuliani. giuliani was the last to be served at his 80th birthday

party friday night after taunting the arizona attorney general on social media. the group is accused of conspiracy and fraud with a plan to keep trump in the white house despite losing the 2020 election. and the chairman of the fdic is out following a report about the agency's toxic workplace culture. the white house confirmed that martin gruenberg will step down once his successor is appointed. his departure comes after a report cites alleged incidents of stalking, harassment, homophobia, and other things at the federal agency. the report was based on more than 500 complaints from employees. >> well, the nation's midsection is expected to get slammed by a new round of severe weather today. more than 50 million people are at risk. last night baseball-sized hail cracking a car's windshield. an intense line of thunderstorms is expected to push through iowa
