millions of dollars worth of security. >> it was easy to evade law enforcement. every floor had a bathtub. we hid in the bathtub and put plywood over us. >> the average home in california is $900,000. >> you can find a lot of bang for your buck over here. this is cbs news bay area with juliette goodrich. we are live on the scene. today, a blow his house, gutted by fire. the fire broke out at 11:30 this morning on grove and fillmore near the painted ladies. it shows dark smoke, flames coming through the windows. two adults, terry's parents had to be rescued from the floor of the homes. well to be treated and taken to the hospital. one was terry's

mother who suffered serious injuries. terry reported about being the target of racist threats and someone sent him a black dog with a noose around his neck. no arrests made in this case. at there point we don't know the cause of the fire. still under investigation but it certainly has a lot of people concerned. lauren toms live on the scene now with more on the fire and the investigation, lauren? >> no motive or cause is determined by this fire. here on grove street you can still smell the char from hours ago and i am told when this fire broke out, terry was actually at city hall in a meeting with city officials to discuss some of the previous hate crime that have been launched against him. here on grove street, firecrews cleared the area. they have red tagged the home. terry, along with six family members and his three dogs have been displaced. two people injured including his parents, list father

received burns on his head. his mother remains in the hospital but is expected to make a full recovery. earlier i spoke with terry right after he walked out of his home to assess some of the damage. he says his biggest fear was getting his parents out alive. >> lost everything, you know, lost everything, all of my memories from being a little kid, jumping off of the walls, doing stuff, it is gone, burnt away. that is like it was taken away from me. >> reporter: neighbors are also devastated by this fire. i am told terry and his family are stapleses in this community and neighbors plan to do their part to help this family rebuild. >> everybody knows him and loves him. it is because of who he is. he is a guy that is sought interacting with a lot of people here and up at the park, obviously. and everybody loves him. you know, he is a great guy. plus, he grew up here. his parents bought that

building in the 1960s. devastating. i am still in shock. >> reporter: now, a gofundme page has been created to help terry and his family rebuild. they are being assisted by the red cross. and, again, no motive or cause has yet been determined. the fire remains under investigation. >> all right, lauren. hopefully they will get answers. cameras are set up, they are also one of the people who showed up to the scene is reverend brown. mmember of the naacpt. should be treated as a state of emergency. >> all hands should be on deck to make sure that we bring this to a screeching halt and that this young man and his family will be able to live in peace in this black community does not deserve living in anxiety >> now, since the hate crime incident williams installed several community centers, they are helping him raise a lot of

money. it is too early to tell if it was connected to today's fire. we will keep you posted on the investigation. >> so, we all know the california is an expensive state to live in. big time. buying a home is more difficult. the average cost of a home statewide now over $900,000 for the first time. that is according to the california association of realtors. here in the bay area it is even higher. the most expensive county is san mateo. average price of a home is $2 million. these are the counties where you can get a deal by bay area standards. we went to solano county the least expensive in the bay area why the price trend there is different than the rest of the bay area. >> come on in. >> reporter: born and raised in vallejo, kathy has been selling homes in her hometown for the past two decades. >> a great house. four bedrooms and 2-1/2 baths. >> reporter: including this one on long ridge drive. >> here is the family room. a

wood-burning fireplace. >> reporter: more than 1800 square feet with enough room for a family and more. >> come on, girl. >> reporter: but, it is still waiting for an offer in what she calls a quiet buyer's market. >> 1 1/2 years ago it would not have been on the market for seven-days it would have been gone. we are not seeing that right now. a lot of buyers just wait. >> reporter: things may seem calm but the rise of home prices statewide continues. the statewide median home price went up 5.8% in a month. and 11% in a year. this home in vallejo is listed at 699,000. more than 200,000 lower than the statewide median. numbers show solano county has the lowest median price for a single-family home. by a margin of $260,000. >> you can find a lot of bang for your buck over here. great pockets here in vallejo.

>> vallejo still offers home buyers to get a large home for a lot less, she expects prices to keep going up. >> once the interest rates change, 100%. there will be a lot of buyers. >> reporter: simply put, when interest rates go down she expects buyers to flood the housing market. >> hopefully by that time the prices will not go up higher than they are right now. hopefully. i just don't see that. i think the prices will go up when the interest rates drop. >> despite rising prices around most of california the same report found that existing single-family home sales last month were up 4% year over year... meantime, the da filed a lawsuit against insurance companies saying systematically undervaluing their homes. pamela price says farmer's insurance violated multiple california laws that protect homeowners and will seek damages and an injunction and named midcentury as subsidiary

of farmers in the suit. farmers tells us the allegations are incorrect and intend to talk to the da's office. now, to a story about housing development gone wrong. you may of heard of the infamous abandon skyscrapers in downtown los angeles. they were developed with a plan to build hundreds of condos next to crypto.com arena. the nearly finished project was abandoned five years ago and now turned into a magnet for taggers and daredevils. well, the latest stunt, a daring tight rope walk between the two towers. so, this guy, he tracked down the plan in this video who detailed how he got away with it despite millions of dollars spent on security. >> reporter: this is daredevil performance artist ben snyder known as reckless ben on youtube >> it is scary. you get up there, wow. >> reporter: you can see him teetering along the line tied between the two towers, hundreds of feet above the street

attempt a stunt here. >> we put the wire on the drone. 540 feet. it is 45 floors high. >> reporter: he says they were even able to play monopoly and take a nap before pulling off the stunt. once the police realized they were in the towers they hit. >> every floor there is a bathtub, we hit in the bathtub and put a piece of plywood over us. >> reporter: the criminal investigation is underway. now i got to walk around with a mask around because there is an active investigation on me. >> somehow i am not buying this. he likes the attention. this month the towers went up for sale the city of los angeles wants a developer to finish the project before the 2028 summer olympics. honoring indigenous roots. we will hear from one of participants of the carnival. and san francisco has them, now, another bay area city is getting speed cameras that will automatically ticket drivers.

. we are counting down to carnival san francisco. the two-day event celebrates the diverse culture. honoring indigenous roots. you talked to one of the participant that is really embracing all of this, right? the theme and this year's activities >> hay there, julliette, the community is excited. the largest one on the west coast. this year's carnival is celebrating latin-american indigenous communities. a local leader that i spoke to of my heritage is showing up loud and

and lower 60s on sunday. so, we are going to be anywhere from 3-6 degrees below that by the time the weekend rolls around. right now, though, things are looking fine. looking ahead at the mark hopkins hotel. things are not as warm. three degrees above average. above temperatures thursday, cooler with more cloud cover heading into the weekend. finishing the workweek on friday. start the weekend. a gradual return to near normal temperatures by the holiday itself next monday. switch perspectives and look towards the golden gate. a beautiful sunset this evening. the temperature close to 80 degrees in concord, a little below that in livermore and santa rosa, down to the middle 70 s in san jose, upper 50s in san francisco. cooler with the breeze. middle 60s in oakland. not a lot of fog this morning, not a lot tomorrow morning just a tiny bit more along the coast and a little bit making its way across the bay and into the tri-valley. it will dissipate along the coast quickly.

tougher to shake tomorrow. the fog within the marine layer re-establishing itself tomorrow. much more noticeable by thursday and finish the workweek on friday. the temperatures tonight, dropping down, to pretty much what is average this time of the year. lower to middle 50s by wednesday morning and warming up inland with the temperatures climbing up to 3-4 degrees above normal. all of the way up to 80 degrees around morgan hill. fewer upper 70s inland in the east bay. the temperatures bayside will be a little cooler down the peninsula topping out in the lower 70s and around 60 degrees for half moon bay. it is about where you are going to be for the next few days before more of a cool down kicks in this weekend. upper sicks, lower 70s. the temperatures in the north bay are going to be in the middle to upper 70s and lower 80s. not as warm as today. santa rosa almost as warm today. that is not the case for tomorrow. let's take a look at the forecast as we head into the longer range

forecast coming out of it just a second. the winds tomorrow, picking up, it will be a breeze kicking in as is the case every afternoon picking up to 25, maybe, slightly stronger than that miles an hour. heading through the afternoon and evening hours and that consistent breeze keeping coastal and bayside locations air-conditioned. >> it is more inland bottle rock this weekend. in the upper 60s or highs on saturday. but cool down is not just going to be coastal or bayside. it will effect the entire bay area. bouncing back already on sunday the temperatures returning to the middle 70s around napa. check out the seven-day forecast and we will start inland where the temperatures are going to drop over the next couple of days, more warm days, coolest days, friday, saturday, highs struggling up to around 70 degrees. we do warm back up to typical levels by memorial day by monday and beginning of

. speed cameras are on their way to san jose city streets. officials announcing the cameras will go into place late this year. the cameras will be placed in high collision areas, part of a state bill authorizing six cities across california to launch a five year pilot program involving the cameras. san francisco is one ever the six cities participating in the program. the 33 cameras will go up by late this year. >> just advancing the first of its kind social media bill designed to protect kids from

getting addicted. the bill will keep social media platforms from sending minors notifications overnight or during school hours without their parent's consent and sets a daily time limit of up to one hour that parents can adjust. the bill sets children's default account to private. the bill needs approval from the state house before moving to the governor's desk. the east bay city. this one in particular is wonder figure they should allow the chick tone cross the road. let me explain, the debate over building a new chick-fil-a restaurant. chick chick

. today, folks in oakland celebrated the town up tuesday

music festival. it featured several local hip hop artists and headlined by rapper too short. the event was free to the public and runs until 8:00. walnut creek. city council will decide whether or not to build a new chick-fil-a in the city. it will be on the oak grove road and citrus avenue intersection in the woodlands neighborhood near the orchards. the city's planning commission gave the project the thumb's up but was appealed by a group of residents. they worry that chick-fil-a will add too much traffic to the area. the fast food restaurant would not include a drive-thru. but delivery service like door dash and uber eats can add just as much congestion. stay tuned for the result. we will see. it has been a pleasure. thanks for watching. the news continues on pix plus and cable 12, see you back here at 11:00. here chickee, chickee
