>> you can tell by the pier. there are summers when the water is so low you can kayak under it. >> not this year. for the first time in five years lake tahoe is full. means visitors will have to make some adjustments. this is cbs news bay area with juliette goodrich. >> hi, i'm sara donchey in for juliette today. a celebration at skyline high school turned ugly. the commencement ceremony just finned when gunfire erupted in the parking lot. we talked to students marring the memories of their special day. >> reporter: the three people shot on campus are expected to survive. they would not tell us if the victims are students or family members here for the graduation. [sound of gunfire] [sound of gunfire] >> oh my god! >> you see it and then the

gunshots in the video posted on social media. witnesses say a fight led to a shooting after the graduation. >> we completely ducked hearing gunshots and went to the main office. >> skyline high says he first heard two shots. he said a short time later he heard 2-3 more shots. >> i was just hoping that my family was okay. i was hoping it was not them or one of my friends. it scared the life out of me. >> he had dozens of family and friends on campus t. was supposed to be a joyous day >> i was on the verge of crying. people were crying for me, so excited. >> it went from crying happy tears to crying scared and afraid tears. at a graduation. [cheering] >> reporter: about an hour after this video was taken, gunfire erupted at around 7:45 p.m. as people were leaving. oakland police say two groups of people got into a fight in the school's parking lot. it is unclear how many people

opened fire. the police say the shooting injured three people. the investigators say they detained multiple people and arrested one person who was an adult. they say they are looking for additional shooters. >> i am going to try not to let it ruin the experience. it was nice. the important thing i was with family, i was with friends >> it is hard to sleep t. is hard to eat. we have done it before. it is worse. our families are here. we don't have experience with this. we do. >> reporter: skyline high started with a shooting in 2023. no one seriously injured and three people were arrested. treyvon witnessed it as well. >> they were playing a dice game and someone was playing around, they lost and shot at the dude. >> reporter: he says it is shard to start and end the school year with a shooting. even show skyline is known as one of the better high schools in oakland he is glad he is going to college. >> mostly shooting. that is all i am going to remember. i am

going to remember the shooting. >> reporter: oakland police will not say how the person arrested is connected to the school or graduation. they are asking witnesses and people that took cell phone footage to contact them. >> the school district is taking precautions with the other ceremonies this weekend. madison park is not allowing bags and they are using metal-detecting wands at the ceremony. the memorial day travel rush is well under way, also. the busiest travel day ever. we checked out sfo. despite the warnings and statistics it did not look that bad this afternoon. a lot of people checking in but things were moving okay. we found one traveler fresh off of a cruise who over prepared and got to the airport so early he had to wait to check his bags. >> we are here like over four hours early. so, we are way early. so, far no problems, really. other than over here at the kiosk that will not let

your baggage. it has to be within the four hour window. we were too early. >> triple-a predicts the holiday traffic to be the busiest since they started keeping track four years ago. this is a look. you see the traffic there on the bay bridge as some of the heaviest here in this box. experts recommend you wait until 8:00 tonight to hit the road if it is possible for you. if you are heading up to the napa valley, you will definitely run into traffic. highway 29 looked congested this afternoon. part of the reason, of course, bottle rock. the three day music festival kicked off in napa today. 120,000 people are expected to attend. andrea nakano is there checking out all of the excitement. hi! today. the vip stands over there, packed shoulder to shoulder. this general admission area incredible. we have not seen a stage area packed like this so far. we have seen amazing acts already. this festival is not just about the food. >> i have a sandwich, the schrimp and fries >> there is such a large amount of food. food all over the fairgrounds, we got a look into the vip section this afternoon and got an up close look at grammy nominee performance. they went absolutely crazy when a couple of fans got up on the stage to show off their dance moves. let's just say it got racy up there. this event it is so awesome. people come back to it each and every year. >> just my family started going

full? >> reporter: the water master says they have a us geologic survey gauge on the lake they watch daily. a full lake means a lot of things. healthy environment, less fire danger, better boating, more water means less beach. >> it means perhaps our beaches might be a little bit, you might be a little closer to your friend or closer to your new friend. >> reporter: right now the water is sitting half a foot below full. in a month it will reach capacity. >> it is really small. >> reporter: it is memorial day weekend and summer crowds are around the corner >> it compresses everybody. it leads to challenges but the trade off is the grade water. >> still have beaches. a lot of beach access all of the way around the lake. if it feels a little closer t is because that is, that is a real thing. the second biggest day of

anticipation of a commencement ceremony but here at this high school in oakland graduation might actually be the second most exciting day of the year. >> the first generation student it means a lot to me. it is basically all of my sacrifices and my family's sacrifices combined in one day.. >> reporter: ever since she was a little girl, she dreamed of going to college. today, she will get to announce where she will be headed during her school's so-called college reveal day. >> i am excited to brab about where i am going. >> committed to usd. >> cal state east bay. >> going to san francisco state university. >> also known as declaration day. >> hello, my name is mario, i will go to university of san francisco and major in computer science. >> these ceremonies are becoming increasingly popular in recent years. but what makes this one different from any other is the fact that for the

third year in a row. >> every single senior here has been accepted to a four year university. and if that is not impressive enough. all of them come from low income families where few of their parents had any opportunity for higher education. >> the tradition that they have done for the past three years. >> she is the guidance counselor. she says the reason the school has been so successful is that every student has a team of academic advisors that work on them one-on-one and available for them for six years after graduation. >> every student deserves an opportunity and all college bound. >> the school has a unique approach that gives students classroom and real world experience. through a work program that also off sets tuition. >> we have wonderful corporate partners that mentor them in a job location doing work over

[ cheers and applause ] >> according to the public policy, 62% of high school graduates enroll in college across california. quite the big achievement for the class of 2024. they are graduating on june 7th. tomorrow kicks off san francisco's annual carnaval in the district. it celebrates the diverse latin-american caribbean and african roots. ending in a huge parade. join us this sunday for our special coverage for carnaval and streaming on the cbs news app. and, there will be a lot of people at that event and others around the bay for the weekend.

the question is, do we bring out the heavy jackets? are we in shortsleeves? darren will tell us. >> saturday, heavy jackets. something to keep you warm. saturday is the coolest day in the seven-day forecast. we really did the big drop today. today was a dramatic cool down from where we were yesterday and what is driving that is an uptick in the up shore wind. putting the streamline back on the map. what we noticed about today is the direction and the intensity change. yesterday, it was going like this down the coast. now where. go over to the golden gate. you can see the directions in through the golden gate and the colors shade a little more from yellow to green. this is color coated when you get into the yellow. 25-30 mile-an-hour gusts instead of the 20 from yesterday. with a stronger onshore coming through the golden gate the impact was felt today on day time highs, we will lose the wind streams and i will put it on tomorrow's day time highs, tomorrow, the

numbers are a dent cal to where things were going. the temperatures not changing a lot for saturday. what is, by the way, yesterday, the numbers inland, it was a difference. you gotten the bulk of the temperature drop out of the way. tomorrow, it has its own share of interesting things to look at. we saw that already showing up when we time lapsed the visual from our camera on mount diablo today. watching the marine layer inland. those are the east bay. getting inland like the diablo valley and intra-costa county this is 10:00 a.m. until 4:00, that say long stretch of time. diit for that long because i just wanted you to see how persistent it was. if you were living underneath it you don't need anybody to tell you how persistent it was. you know. here is the visual, the big picture of you. the city, peninsula, east bay shore, parts of the try valley, never really cleared. tomorrow, the marine layer will be more

widespread than that. watch what happens when we put it in the forecast imagery. i want to draw your attention on the marine layer and how it behaves tomorrow. that is tomorrow morning. at this point, the marine layer is at the most widespread. everybody but for the north bay valley, clear skies to start the day tomorrow. everybody else is under widespread gray. so much that it is misting along the coast. so, coast side, a couple inches of rain could fall. and even if it is a lot more widespread in the morning that is saturday afternoon. so, on the flip side of things for tomorrow afternoon. we should get more sun than we had today. especially right over the heart of the bay. that is 3:00, 4:00 in the afternoon. that is your saturday. gray to start. just as cool. you can see the rain that shows up along the coast. so, that is the way it plays out in terms of light rainfall. what happened? how did we get a dramatic change. how did it all

come back with such incensity. you switch to the water vapor. look what dove down. coming right at us. changing the perspective. putting it in the future cast we will see it in the clouds. that is going by tomorrow. as soon as that leaves it pulls in the marine layer to fill in the space that it just left. and that is why the marine layer is getting a big assist tomorrow. pulled on shore. as it leaves, so, we get the wet gray blanket pulled over us and you can see it gives us marine layer. what does it mean for the holiday. let's look at it a couple of different ways. if you generallize it. look at the top line. saturday, 68 if you are inland. sunday, 78. you will see that theme again. big difference, inland, saturday and the rest of the weekend. if you are in the bay you don't know the difference, if you are at the beach you don't notice

it. carnaval you will. it starts, gray, upper 50s, sunday, for the parade, it will be gray. more blue skies in the afternoon. the mission is known for that in terms of the city's chances for sun. getting sun in the afternoon. you will be four degrees warmer. sunday, nicer day in the mission than saturday will be. monday, nicer than that. this really shows you. in napa you get a big impact in terms of the warm up. you start off saturday morning and it is gray. plenty of sunshine saturday afternoon. harder to warm up. you got to settle for upper 60s. sunday, you might not get much marine layer in there at all and you skyrocket to the upper 70s. monday, warmer than that. so, let's put the in the seven-day forecast now. we will watch the microclimates. saying good-bye to the virtual map on the floor. we are going to do three microclimates here. look at the

warm up by the time we get to thursday. notice it on monday, keep going well into next week. looking at the bay you get a warm up, too. obviously, not as far. can see the trend is there. morning marine layer. and then one item of interest will show up. over here on this one, for saturday morning, you got rain on there. so, it is, you know, what we should refer to as marine layer mist. light stuff. it will go long enough in the predawn hours and in the early morning. some of it will be measurable along the coast and in the hills. that could happen in the east bay hills by the way. all right, sara, back to you. >> all right, thanks. a 15-year-old computer wizz that loved to code and create animations, now he is on
