after a nearly near 20 year search for a violent felon that span thousands of miles is now over. and overturned. big rig hearing about b#40,000 of strawberries is making a mess of traffic on 1 on 1 this morning that connector ramp in san jose towards 80. it's going to take cruise quite it a while to clear boxes of berries. and some sand barrels next to the roadways so stick with alternates. in the meantime, you can see that big mess out there off to the side of the roadway again. it's going to take some time before that gets out of the area and we were 1st on the scene of that accident early this morning, the california highway patrol says the driver of the big rig may have made to wide of a turn causing the truck and trailer too. tip over and get stuck onto its side. no 1 was hurt, but again, it's been out there for several hours. so do plan for that. well now to this morning's other local headlines, the man convicted in the hammer attack on the husband of former house speaker nancy pelosi says he's sorry. for the crime that ended with a

30 year prison sentence. david apart, told the judge that after breaking into the pelosi home back in 2022 he should have left when he realized nancy pelosi wasn't there instead, he stayed and caused popular oc to have a school. actor. police arrested him and in november a jury convicted him with assault and attempted kidnapping that closes out the federal case, but to pap now faces state charges opening statements in that case are happening right now. meantime, you see graduate student workers at uc davis and uc l. a walk off the job over the university's response to pro palestinian protests. they are union represented and say, you see, leaders allowed violent attacks on demonstrators at u. c l. a group of counter protesters. attacked campers with fireworks sticks and even bear mace student workers at uc santa cruz started the strike on campus last week classes there will be held remotely today and tomorrow you see administrators attempted to have the protest. has declared illegal but the california labor board rejected that

effort. looking live right now at our state capitol, pro palestinian demonstrators holding a 72 hour visual to protest the deadly airstrike on a tent camp in rafah in gaza. if you're headed up that way, you'll see them on the steps of the federal courthouse. now this comes after protesters marched through sacramento streets on memorial day. disrupting ceremonies while demanding congress to stop sending weapons to israel. we'll have happening right now, history in new york. the jury in donald trump's criminal hush money trial has begun deliberating on a verdict after receiving instructions from the judge. the panel of 7 men and 5 women determining whether trump is guilty of 34 felony charges of falsifying business records related to a 130. money payment to an adult film star before the 2016 presidential election. now the jury must be unanimous in its decision and as they deliberate, they can ask the court. questions about the case through handwritten notes. now

for a look across the bay area this morning, happy wednesday. we are halfway through the work week. this midweek warmup is felt all throughout the bay area. we're expecting upper 80s today near santa rosa. low 80s into napa with 70s in their san francisco across the bay bridge over in oakland. now, as we head off into the east bay even more, we're actually anticipating close to 90s in the forecast this afternoon in areas like walnut creek and concord stretching off in antioch. we cool down a little bit as we head into this weekend's forecast in europe for our next little heat wave that starts next week. so let's take a look at that on our 7 day models. looking at this week alone. lots of sunshine is expected for us to continue to hydrate and wear plenty of sunscreen. if you do have any outdoor activities, watch what happens into this weekend. partly cloudy skies kind of roll their way back into kick off early next week with some low 80s but then we jump right back up into the upper 80s, low 90s by next tuesday, heading into wednesday, that's our inland areas, though, if you don't live close to concord, or if you don't live close to fremont, maybe you live close to the bay. this is what we're

expecting that warmup will start to cool down just a smidge into this weekend upper 60s flirting with some low 70s and then heading into mid next week. those upper 70s return as early as tuesday with partly cloudy skies. what do this morning, federal investigators are preparing to bring accusers of music mogul sean diddy combs before federal grand jury since november. 7 of the 8 civil lawsuits against homes accused him of sexual assault. he has denied many of those claims. bringing those accusers inwood would mark a significant escalation in the government's ongoing investigation into combs. the sources say the scope of that investigation is much larger than the allegations in the civil suits, which has to do with ... trafficking money laundering and illegal drugs. little closer to home after 16 years on the run a massachusetts fugitive known as the bad breath ... was caught and cuffed right here in the bay area, or lauren toms talked to a member of the task force that finally tracked him down. chris

this feast cannot wait! - right. available for a limited time only at round table pizza. time right now is 910. let's get a look at what's happening. around the bay. today. convicted killer scott peterson is back. in the san mateo courtroom right now, in a push to clear his name, peterson is attending the hearing via zoom. he was convicted nearly 20 years ago for murdering his wife, lacy, and their unborn son, conner. this was back in 2002, peterson now has the help from the innocence project. the group is requesting evidence gathered during the investigation to undergo dna

testing. peterson is currently serving a life sentence at mule creek state prison in amador county. and contra costa county residents of a senior home facility in oakley may be allowed back inside today. this after a sewage leak. shut down there building. yesterday, crews were working to clean up the mess this was on carol lane. dozens were evacuated on sunday after residents reported a foul order of sewage and gas. they are now anxiously awaiting permission to return, which could take up to a week managers have arranged hotel stays and are delivering meals until residents can return home. let's take a live look at san francisco this morning, california governor gavin newsom will join tech education and other labor leaders at the palace of fine arts. to speak to speak at the generative ai summit that's happening later today. generative ai for those of you who are not familiar is a type of artificial intelligence that's able to generate text or other media normally from just a prompt the

summit begins today and runs through friday. now many of the concerns that the general public has about a i will be discussed at that summit and state lawmakers are trying to keep up with the technology. and are making a push to regulated. introduced by state senator bill dodd. the ai accountability act guides the decision making of state agencies. related to automated technologies. one provision in the bill would require state agencies to notify users when they are interacting with a i. engineering experts believe the bill can serve as a necessary starting for the government, a, i companies and consumers. having all the 3 parties together. um will help make sure that the the you know the ai is responsible and safe. senators dodd's bill also encourages the state to invest in a i education and build a i competency in the state's workforce. also happening in san francisco crews are shutting down 1 of the busiest streets in the city for pothole repairs. to north end lanes of

19th avenue between slope boulevard and caravelle. street will be closed the closures will begin or just started, actually, and will last until about 3 this afternoon, and that will extend until friday. we have sunny skies as we head into this afternoon. our weather headlines have been so nice for us today. we had a nice, clear, cool morning into the afternoon hours. daytime highs are sitting above average and we're actually going to continue to watch that trend with heat building into our inland areas throughout the next couple days, we'll be right back to normal, normal as we head into this weekend temperatures back to average, but what's happening right now is high pressure sitting just offshore, and this is kind of creating almost like a heat dome for us just over the bay area, so we're going to feel a lot warmer, very summerlike as we head into the next couple of days, and we noticed it already today, another thing to add to its dry out there and we're sitting in that medium to high category for a pollen count. so just keep that in mind if you are sensitive to allergies, let's head into those daytime highs, though 70s in the forecast today in san francisco, with sunny skies, all above us especially off into the east bay and up into

santa rosa, both sitting in the upper 80s in the forecast for us almost see 90s just right around the corner as we head into next week, we'll have more on that as we get closer but stretching down into the santa clara valley. as heat is definitely going to be felt widespread throughout the bay area, and it's just starting today, we'll see more of it into the forecast starting tomorrow. let's head over into our 7 day forecast now upper 80s today. tomorrow it starts to average out just a little bit as we head into this weekend forecast back to the low 80s with still plenty of sunshine into saturday. some partly cloudy skies rolling in early next week as early as next tuesday. that's our next little heat wave that we are anticipating. it's going to be a warm 1 for us, and that's where we could see some 90s returning into our inland areas like santa jose stretching all the way off into the east bay near antioch. now, if you live close to the bay, we're also getting our fair share of sunshine today and tomorrow, but those clouds start rolling in just a little bit sooner. partly cloudy skies into this weekend forecast mostly cloudy skies to kick off that june gloom set up into next week. we'll keep you updated on that forecast here in the weather

apple continues to roll out out. and in every facet of the iphone. tiktok experimenting with a longer video format in waymo is in a bit of hot water with the national highway traffic safety administration. so a lot to get to and breaking it all down for us this morning has is scenic video host and producer a brawl al hedy high nice to see you. nice to see you. thanks for having me. well, we have a lot to get to. we're going to start off with apple 1st this morning. they are holding an ai event in a few weeks. what are the announcement or rumors that are circulating? around what can be what we can expect. there are a lot there's a lot of speculation about how much apple might be catching up with a lot of a i releases from other companies, so they're developers conferences on june 10th, and we expect to see a lot of kind of more subtle. ai updates throughout the phone, so there are reports that maybe we'll see transcriptions for voice memos or faster search or more conversational. series that really aligns with how a lot of companies are trying to make more conversational voice assistance, so still a lot of rumors at this, but it's only a couple of weeks away, and we'll

probably see the next iphone really just packed in with a lot of those a, i updates. okay, so let's turn to san francisco is a waymo, the n h. t s a announced they have learned of about 9 more incidents having to deal with a safety performance of the company's driverless cars earlier this month, they opened an investigation after reports found those cars violated safety laws so seen as waymo wants to expand in other areas like the south bay. what do you think is the best and worst case scenario that could come out of this? investigation. the best thing for them to do is to not do what cruz did, which was essentially not share everything that happened or hide any of the information that, um, the nh. hts a is looking for, and so what they're being asked to is to provide more details about these incidents and to provide videos if they do that, then it might make that path easier to expanding. these autonomous vehicles, and maybe they'll have more luck. actually, you know, not having these vehicles recalled. it's still hard for me to wrap my head around this 1 of getting into driverless taxi, but advancement is good technology is good. alright and

tiktok is allowing some users to upload videos as long as 60 minutes. that's a long time. currently videos range from about 3 seconds to 10 minutes, so we've seen other social media platforms. do something similar, and implement longer forms of media. so tiktok is known for short form content. how would this benefit their business? listen, i love tiktok. i cannot fathom watching a 60 minute video on tiktok. but they're really trying to do is keep you on the platform for as long as possible, and they think longer videos might do that. they've kind of slowly increase the limit will have to see if this rolls out more widely. right now it's only limited to certain creators. but i'm really curious to know if other people have more patients than i do and actually sit through a 16 minute long video. yeah, it's i mean, my attention span doesn't handle 60 minutes when it's quick and scrolling through on youtube. maybe all right. always. great. great stuff abroad. thank you so so much. thanks for having me. time now for your money watch. report. wall street had a mixed, closing to kick off the shortened trading week with more federal inflation data due

to be released soon, so let's see where the markets sit right now, and dow is down in the red by quite a bit over 300 points, all right, so you're feeling a little bit better about the economy for the 1st time in 4 months, consumer confidence hit 102 in may that is up from 97.5. in april. it's a 3rd straight month of increases. but the survey from a nonprofit business research group also showed that there are continued worries about inflation. this month. more of you said, you believe a recession is somewhat or very likely in the next year. well here in san francisco, sfm to is getting nearly $5 0 in federal funding for a variety of upgrades to its community service. it's part of the biden administration. infrastructure law, san francisco is 1 of 8 transit systems in 8 different states that are receiving grants to modernize its transit stations. and make accessibility improvements. last year. i photographed her on at least 10 different surfboards at different times. most of them she destroyed.

yeah. that is a gorgeous view, right? there. alright, well, look at check this out. it is hard to tell but these are images of an extremely wear and endangered whale, the north pacific right whale was spotted friday by scientists. this is just off the coast of sonoma and marin experts say only a few 100 of these whales are believed to still be alive. they're usually seen in the bering sea where they feed in the summertime. the last time a right whale was spotted off the coast of california. it was last year. well, all right, and this morning look who's back in the bay this world water day, the

popular surfboard stealing otter that gained national attention last year otter. after 841 as we call her disappeared at the end of december, right before big storms moved into santa cruz county, well, she was recently spotted near a surfing spot called steamer lane by the photographer who actually made her famous capturing her on camera plundering surfboards and evading wildlife agents. will locals are excited to see her again. but they're concerned as well about her interactions with people. surprise. but more than that i was relieved. she disappeared at the end of december, right before we had a whole lot of really big storms with massive ways that did all kinds of damage up and down our coast. so i'm glad nothing happened to her. well, 841 has a tracker, so wildlife experts know where she is. and right now there are plans to capture her well, that is it for the news at 9. coming up. next is the drew barrymore show today actors elliott page and the very jacobs are stopping by to discuss their new cheerleading film back spot
