from cbs news bay area, this is the evening edition. about 11:00, evacuation orders issued near los angeles as fire crews struggled to get containment on a big fire. >> fire officials remain on high alert for dangerous fire conditions throughout the weekend. the show must and did go on for a theater troupe that did not let a fire destroying their set stop them from putting on

this weekend's performances. >> put a list out on facebook about we needed. all of a sudden, we had everything we needed. you just feel that community and that you are part of something bigger than yourself. evacuation orders have been issued for parts of los angeles county, as crews struggled to contain a wildfire tonight. this is video from the state-funded buyer integrated real-time intelligence system, also called fire us. it is called the post-fire. it has burned more than 4400 acres. this is right off i-5 near gorman. the freeway was shut down for a time but has reopened. the on and off ramps in the area remain closed. >> happened to be driving. today and shot this footage. fire officials say the crews are battling it from the ground and are doing it the best they can. containment still remains at 0%.

>> reporter: it is in a long time since we have used satellite imagery to drive home a point of a fire's fast growth. today was the first time of the season and you could see that buyer take off from the grapevine as the sunset in the sky it went dark, we lose the visual of it. but the smoke plume tells you a very impressive story. watch it. it is very subtle. there is a very small puff of smoke coming out of san benito county. the hernandez fire started around the same time as the post-fire did. here it is on a map. you can see where it is. let's get a closer look. san bernardino county is so big. we will put perspective on this. here's monterey. you can see where the hernandez fire is. that is gone to 400 acres and they have got it at about 24% contained. they are both tied to the same issue. it is the same reason that we have got a red flag warning for northern california now through monday. we will show you that in one second. look at the

wind. barry gusting off the coast. look at the mountains in southern california. look through the mountains at the diablo range in big sur today. i will leave you with this image for now. we will go into much more detail with our red flag warning cast. it does not include most of the day but it does include solano county and lake county. we will talk about that . much more on that coming up on the full forecast. for now, this is the story of the day. i know that you got more on that fire. >> thank you, darren. fire crews had to deal with multiple small grass fires popping up in the san jose area today. the biggest getting to about 20 acres with at least one in sunnyvale, as well. no reports of any injuries or damage associated with any of these fires. >> the fire risk remains elevated in the north bay this

weekend, as well with a windy and dry june that we have had so far. that risk will only increase as fuel continues drying out over the summer. print one out in pittsburgh where the show went on. tonight, even after a theater lost 35 years of props in a fire last weekend. despite the setback, the nearest production of the sunshine boys went on as scheduled. >> reporter: samantha explains how it happened and how they managed to get it altogether. >> reporter: as soon as the fire happened, one of the board of directors said her mind did not go towards what they were losing, but instead, it went towards the future and this show. what they were going to need to make it happen. >> we are getting by. let's put it that way. >> i understand. >> all of our pastors in there. all of the photos from the shows going back to 1979. show posters. all of those memories are gone. >> heartbreak for the pittsburgh theater company with the board of directors. she spent last sunday repairing for opening night of the reduction of the sunshine boys. moments after arriving home, messages started coming in that the

warehouse was on fire. >> i followed the fire trucks over . saw the blaze going on inside well, that's that. there was nothing more. >> they said firefighting's were -- >> claims were billowing out the top. i knew it was going to be a total loss at that point. >> 35 years of set pieces, props and costumes were lost in a matter of minutes. in just five days they would have to put on the show. the only thing they had set up at california theater in pittsburgh where the backdrop walls. >> we put a list out on facebook of what we needed. all of a sudden, by wednesday, we had everything we needed. >> reporter: the theater community and the pittsburgh community immediately stepped in to help. mary wilson. she was done looking at the images

of the fire. >> to have all of these items lost is a tragedy. >> it is really sad. >> reporter: she knew she would come out and support the company by seeing the show. >> they are local and it is community. it is fun. we enjoy it. >> reporter: many of the people who came to the show stopped to look at the display of photos from the fire, read about what happened and we donations. sheffield says even this show happening, they are still working to recover. in addition to all of the equipment, they also need to find a new location for a potential warehouse. >> reporter: our goal is to raise at least $50,000 because of the cost of warehouses and we had a very good deal with the city because they were supporting us. so, we don't expect to have that in the future. >> reporter: right now, they are just grateful for what they do have. a successful show and support. >> you just deal that community and that you are a part of

something bigger than yourself. >> reporter: rebuilding is going to take time and multiple efforts to raise money. on july 27th, they will be having a benefit concert, right here at california theater in pittsburgh to help raise some more money. they are hoping the community will continue to come out and support. we told you about the post-fire on the grapevine burning women. beneath interstate 5 to the west. i guess that is where lori perez is now with the latest. lori, what is the threat like two businesses in the area? by the way, exactly where are you? >> reporter: well, brian, we are just off the 5 freeway in gorman. very close to where the fire started. i want to show you immediately what fire crews are continuing kind of hot pot,

blames no. in two sides right now. a lot of intense video. to show you this wildfire that burned more than 4400 acres, billowing clouds of smoke can be seen for miles earlier today. all of it coming from a very aggressive and quick moving fire. more than 300 firefighters are on the job, even now, including a tremendous amount of air support. back and forth, we have been watching aircrews dropping water and fire retardant. in the dark, we can hear and see them. the mountains here are now coated in red. the problem tonight is that it is very windy, especially higher up in the mountains. that is fueling the flames on a lot of really dry brush, which has made this difficult to contain. the fire started at about 1:45 this afternoon. just off the five freeway with gorman road investigators don't know how it started. it got out of control pretty quickly. burning auto repair and parts store

with 20 cars behind it that were destroyed. from there the flames took off. the good news is there have been no injuries reported but at least 1200 people were evacuated here in gorman from two parts of gorman including a state recreational area and some areas just west of where the fire started. it will be a very long night here for fire crews. again, more than 4400 acres have burned with 0% containment at this time. i am sure you can hear and see how windy it is. that is really going to make things very, very challenging. when i was going to ask about that. i can see that from where it was ignited around 2:00 this afternoon, that the fire is burning south. it has just spread south. is it pretty windy where you are? >> reporter: it is. i will say it is tremendously windy when we got here. so were trying to get out of the life trucks, it was almost difficult to stand .

things calmed down a little bit about 6:00 or 7:00. not that surprising. it has picked up, once again. we understand that especially up in the higher elevations, it is very, very swift wind. and that will be tough for them to fight. on the grapevine in gorman on i-5 in the southland. that is lori perez. thank you. more than 10,000 people packed the streets of san francisco celebrating this year's annual juneteenth festival. the event festival with blocks of food and fun activities. kids could learn about the history of juneteenth. >> this is an important thing for all of us to celebrate. we all have a responsibility to carry out that freedom and continue with the next generation. >> people in san mateo county

why can't we as americans know many language? >> a group of advocates outside the san francisco unified school district office is calling for the protection and expansion of multilingual education of the city. the group is worried about cut to mandarin and cantonese language programs. lawrence wants to be sure that asian americans are considered when the district has to make those cuts. >> we are working with a district that is not looking at the demand for mandarin, cantonese, korean. this is highly concerning. we have seen the pattern of annoying -- >> one in three students in san francisco were asian.

the city this weekend and the weather is perfect. san francisco is back. somebody has flipped a switch and it is back. the traffic is nuts. take a look at the wind. that is what is driving our fire concerns. when we play this forward, that is stronger than typical. northwest wind off the coast. we would normally think it's fire weather concerns coming the other way. by that, and those are offshore wind that we normally worry about. these are unique in that way. this will be coming right on the coast. tomorrow night is one of the stronger time names. purple on this map is 50 miles per hour. so, 50 mile-an-hour cuts going off the coast, but it starts to weep in across the bay, as well. particularly going through the gaps like the golden gate, san bruno. we have 30 to 40 mile an hour gusting. when you put this on top of the

two oakland teams are hoping to become the future of u.s. olympic weightlifting. >> reporter: they have their eyes on the podium at the national youth championship weekend. it >> beautiful. on the podium, i feel like i just reflect on everything that took me to get to that moment. >> reporter: robert whitlock walked into this gym when he was in elementary school. now he is a rising high school sophomore. lifting more than 200 pounds over his head. he has his eyes set on some big goals, including the 2028 olympics. >> the olympics after that in the olympics after that too. >> reporter: first, he and his trading partner , 16-year-old rucker johnson, will be heading
