himself in the birmingham black barons. from kpix, this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. hi, i'm sara donchey. we have not seen a day like today in oakland, maybe, ever. federal agents raided the home of the city's mayor along with a well-connected businessman throwing more dirt on the growing mound of issues facing the town. including a mass shooting. this was the scene outside of mayor thao's home, fbi agents coming and going, no sign of the mayor herself. andrea nakano is live at her house with the latest. andrea? >> reporter: the mayor canceled all public events today. we don't know where she is. we had a crew camped out outside of city hall hoping to catch up with her but no luck there. so,

at this point there are a lot of unanswered questions. we report on what we know about the raids today in oakland. >> shock waves going through the highest ranks of oakland city government as the mayor's home was raided by the federal authorities. remains unclear what agents were looking for when they arrived at the home. but roughly five hours later, a dozen agents left with 10 boxes and two bags of material from inside of the home. former federal prosecutor says it indicates agents are highly confident in their allegations. >> by the time they are executing a search warrant on the mayor of oakland's home they have done a lot of the background investigation. that is a bold move. it says a couple of things. knob one it says enough probable cause to go into the house. but also says they were unable to secure the sort of cooperation that

one would expect from an elected mayor. they had to get a search warrant to obtain documents, to obtain hard drives and information. that, already, points the finger of corruption at the oakland player fairly substantially. and it is far along indeed before they take a step like that. >> former fbi agent involved says agents were likely looking for something connected to a white collar crime. >> they are going to take books with notes in them. take any media, thumb drives, social media, all of that data will be analyzed, mirrored and obviously she will get her computers back. they will look through it with a fine teught comb. members were at thao's home demanding answers from the mayor. the judge, ousted by thao from her role in the police commission, she says the raid escalates their calls for

her to step down. >> i was stunned, to tell you the truth. i was shocked. i was disheartened. and, just extremely disappointed that she has that this shame has been brought to the city. we are a national disgrace. it is up fortunate. they deserve so much better. >> but, tony says the raid on the highest ranking official indicates authorities are certain of her involvement in this conduct. >> the mayor of oakland. they better be right, right? this is as there is corruption. we could not get the cooperation of the mayor investigating this corruption. >> now, sara, this is the home that the mayor shares with her boyfriend. seen walking in earlier today. we have seen flashes of light from what

electrics like a television from the window above the garage but at this time we have not seen her mayor at all today, back to you. >> interesting. we await what she has to say. thank you very much. of course, it was not just the mayor's home raided. as we mentioned the home of a oakland family that owns a recycling business with city contracts raided as well. the house is on view crest court. linked to andy duong. his family owns california waste solutions. we saw fbi and irs taking boxes from the company's offices along embarcadero. that building happens to be home to the vietnamese business association that was also raided this afternoon and has ties to the duong family. we have that part of the coverage . fbi agents and irs raided

the office on embarcadero in oak land. it is located on the third floor, the vietnamese american business association or vaba was raided by federal agents today. >> surprising. all of the companies are doing good for the community. recycling and cleaning up the mess that we have. california waste solutions is owned by the du on, ng family. >> saigon we call home but our heart is here. >> vietnam ease soldiers seized the properties in 1975. after arriving to the pay area the family settled in the tenderloin. the family picks up cardboard off of the streets to

make money. it is now worth hundreds of millions, employees about 300 people and invests back in vietnam after opening a solid waste recycling company called vietnam waste solutions. our story in 2015 featured andy duong. the home was raided earlier this morning. over the years andy duong is a regular face in local, state, and national politics. he helped organize a trip to vietnam last year. including local delegates including oakland mayor thao. the instagram shows him standing side by side with some of the country's most powerful politics including president joe biden and vice president kamala harris. during today's raid at the oakland office, federal agents hauled out two carts stacked with boxes with andy duong's name written on labels. carl khan is the president of the oakland chamber of commerce

on the political fallout. >> terribly shocked. i woke up this morning prepared to address the juneteenth incident yesterday and, as soon as i turned on the news i heard the news breaking. inside city hall, word spread. the councilmember said they, too, are trying to figure out what exactly is going on and what it might mean for the city. >> we have no information in terms of the council on what is happening. but, in the moan time, we still need leadership and direction. >> we want to make sure, you know, we can get it all over with. right now our city needs a leadership. >> chinatown leader said his concern, the investigation, wherever it might be going will take the focus away from other issues. let's allow the fbi to do the work and making sure that, you know, we understand what is going on. >> we do. we just have to wait

and see. it is too early for us to make a determination as to whatever is going on. >> bishop jackson spent the day learning more on what might be happening. he said it feels like a set back when the city faces a good deal of uncertainty. >> what is going on in the city of oakland? i just think that it is something very, very bizarre. really, i am not sure who would lead the city if something happens to the mayor. who would take over the city. who do we have to take over the city? >> i think with leadership we can not allow it to become a distraction. we have to focus what is in front of us right now. >> a lot of questions about public safety. a list of challenges facing oakland is long. the political context here is obviously the recall. i spoke with someone on the progressive end of politics in oakland about this today and their first reaction was this is the last thing the mayor

needed. now, everyone waits to learn more about what is happening and where oakland goes from here. >> another political player in oakland is the former police chief and current city council candidate armstrong. he and the mayor are no strongers. thao fired him saying she had no confidence he can do the job in the wake of a department scandal. tonight he released his own statement calling oakland a city in crisis and blamed leadership for shootings, overall violence, crime,lessness and the city's budget issues as wilson mentioned all of it comes as the mayor is facing a recall in november. just two days ago. the county register confirms it qualified for the ballot. after today's raids, her opponents are calling on her to resign now. oakland naacp agrees with the idea saying tonight in their own statement, are released a few hours ago. the raids left a cloud hanging over oakland adding with all of issues that i need a mayor not

distracted boy their own legal issues. >> the latest example of the violence they are speaking about near lake merit. police say it started after 8:00 when a large group began a sideshow of motorbikes and atvs in the street. the police say somebody stomped on top of a car and then that person was attacked by several other people. multiple fights broke out after that according to the cops and then shots were fired. >> this type of behavior and level of violence is unacceptable. the opportunity to celebrate with your family and friends should never be marred by gunfire. >> bullets started noticing, people start running, get downhill, get off of there. so, that is pretty much what i did. >> the police say some officers were punched in the face at that scene. one woman was arrested for assaulting an officer. everyone who was shot survived. one person was in

emotional. >> we brought orange flowers on the statue. >> a lot of people sharing their memories of willie mays. he died this week at the age of 93. now, that is what it was like for fans here in san francisco. but, for a taste of what fans got to experience in alabama, we sent ryan yama, moto to the oldest standing ballpark in the country. a young willie mays stepped on the field for the black barrens.. you walk inside you can feel the history. the great players that played on the field behind me including a 17-year-old willie mays. >> considered one of the greatest if not the greatest brooks former voice of the san francisco giants believes there is no argument when it comes to willie mays. >> he is the greatest player to ever play the game. and, you can not convince me otherwise. so, i am so honored to be here at this historic paul park.

. all right, never too early to talk about the weekend. probably good if you were cold today? >> you expect from the summer solstice in the bay area, cold, foggy conditions for many of us. most of the time it is the air quality. not too bad. yesterday, today, onshore winds, surface smoke. tracking it on this map. it is going to continue as the temperatures are going to build. not going to see a return of off shore winds. so, most of the smoke from the remnants of the point fire or the sites fire will be pushing farther and farther away from the bay area. the worse the air quality will be,

moderate category. what the change is going to be, the return of the heat dome. it is edging back towards us. not setting up camp over head. close enough beginning tomorrow? today, summer solstice, near or below average. 81 degrees in santa rosa. temperatures, 83 degrees in napa. they were largely in the 70s, 58 degrees for a high temperature in san francisco. 73 degrees for redwood city, inland, antioch, those are the warm spots on the first day of summer. in the 90s in most locations, san jose, 84 degrees, below average for the middle of june. again, changes are in store. let's take a lock at where we stand right now. we stand with a lot of fog. this is the lack of a view from the mark hopkins hotel. temperatures in the 50s across the board. lower 50s everywhere. not changing a lot

heading through the rest of tonight. the fog, spreading across the bay, well into the inland valleys by tomorrow morning, extra time for the morning commute. not a bad idea. the fog should back up out of the inland valleys, quickly, though, temperatures warming up. it will be a modest warm up around the bay and an absept one along the coast. temperatures, not changes much, lower 50s across the board. cooler spots, upper 40s. then, we end up a degree or two above average, san francisco and oakland. 5 or 6 degrees above normal. mix of 80s, 90s, lower 60s along the coast. that is 5 or suks degrees warmer than today. upper 80s to around 90 degrees as you go inland. a few super 80s and lower 90s. hot spots around antioch, brentwood, 60 exps 70s the temperatures in the north bay. lower to middle 80s. going farther north. middle to upper 80s. 90s showing up on that map

already for tomorrow. but, even in the hottest day we are not likely to set record high temperatures inland parts of the bay area. a quick return, hot weather on saturday. but near average temperatures kicking back already on sunday. continuing through most of next week. around the bay, not going to spike to around the same extent. upper 70 exps 80s on saturday. lower half of the 70s. back and forth fog for the first full week of june. along the coast. you get one day of more sunshine. that is saturday, back in the june gloom. including the stern grove concert. sara? >> thank you, paul. >> how much of a good
