so trying to cool off. plus, she was sheng thao's chief of staff, now she's coming out with some strong allegations. >> i do believe she has a good heart, but i do believe that she was allowed to be corrupted and yeah she let herself go astray. and three days now since 15 people were shot at a juneteenth celebration in oakland. how opd kept people safe at lakefest today. thanks for joining us, i'm brian hackney. >> and i'm andrea nakano. the bay area microclimates in full effect today. fog over to bay and over 100 degrees in livermore. despite the sweltering heat, hundreds of people came out to find out who would be crowned the world's ugliest dog at the sonoma marin county fair. >> and temperatures hit triple digits this afternoon in livermore, just barely but it did. didn't stop folks from enjoying the fair over the weekend. amanda hari's got that story. >> thank y'all for being here.

appreciate you. >> have fun. >> enjoy, thanks for coming out. i know it's hot today. >> reporter: a one-day heat wave didn't stop thousands of people from filling the alameda county fairgrounds, although some did think about staying home. >> we almost turned around, it was 100. >> reporter: but ultimately, the decision wasn't up to him. >> kids wasn't going to let us not come. >> reporter: the elevated temperatures did present a moderate risk of heat-related illness, but many people were finding different ways to cope. >> you'll be all right. >> reporter: richard chavez even purchased his whole family some souvenirs to help. >> we did buy a couple of those spray fans that are sold here. i shouldn't say a couple, everyone bought one. we have like ten. >> reporter: people are keeping cool in a couple different ways. there are areas inside that are air conditioned. people are also carrying around water bottles, and there's a water ride. we're going to get on it. we're going. we're

trivallow. livermore. look at concord, 99. 66 in san francisco. some of these numbers drop as much as ten degrees tomorrow, and it's the places that need it the most. so concord, you're coming down ten. livermore, you'll come down eight. san francisco and oakland, you're pretty much not changing at all. you are still -- here's the view of the golden gate today just before sunset, you can see the onshore flow there. there's no clouds, but there's definitely a marine layer, and it's got cool, humid -- relatively humid air that was surging on shore today. we'll get your temperature on the screen here for sunday coming up in a bit. we're also going to look ahead. do you remember there was a tropical storm alberto that came ashore through mexico a few days ago? well, the leftovers of that could be here in about two days in a very small form but still a potentially important one. we're going to look at the possibility for this stuff early in the week. forecast on that's coming up in just a few

minutes. guys, back to you. the former chief of staff for mayor sheng thao believes she should resign following the fbi raids. agents interviewed her about a year ago. while the fbi hasn't linked mayor thao to any kind of wrong doing, the former confidant is speaking out. reporter da lin says renia webb reached out the him in november of 2022 saying she resigned from her position over concerns about pay-to-play allegations. now she's sharing her side of the story. >> and then i met her at her birthday party that she had up in montclair. >> reporter: renia webb worked closely with and had access to sheng thao that few people had for a year and four months. webb served as thao's right hand person, working as chief of staff when thao was the district four councilmember. webb says she volunteered and spent countless hours on thao's mayoral campaign in 2022. she says she also led thao's transition team after thao won the election. >> a lot of what's coming out

now is the reason i resigned shortly thereafter winning the election. >> reporter: she was more sad than surprised about fbi agents raiding thao's home on thursday. >> i wasn't surprised. i was like, finally. finally the truth is coming out. >> reporter: webb accuses thao's boyfriend andre jones of being the mastermind and running pay-to-play schemes during thao's campaign for mayor and after she won. >> i had found out that andre, her boyfriend, was promising people jobs in our administration, promising people appointments on different commissions and boards from out of the mouths of people that told me they were promised positions. they were promised board positions. and at the mouth of what they would always -- andre, you know, that's who they would say, andre promised me this. >> reporter: webb claims jones was controlling and calling the shots. she says thao went along with him. >> it's sad. he's making her do things, pushing her to do things that i don't believe she would do otherwise. i just really don't. >> reporter: webb says jones

and thao met when they worked for councilmember rebecca kaplan. jones was kaplan's chief of staff and thao was an intern. >> when i first mentioned to sheng at the house that got raided yesterday that people were coming to me, you know, with andre had promised them, and her response to me was just ignore andre. you're going to be making close to $200,000. just ignore it. and it just hurt my heart. like i just looked at her and i told her, i don't care about the money. >> reporter: after thao won the election in november, webb says she resigned on new year's eve 2022. she says in early 2023 she complained to the city council and the public ethics commission about the pay-to-play allegation. she says the council ignored her complaint. the ethics commission sent a follow-up email requesting evidence, but webb could not produce physical evidence, so that complaint went nowhere. webb says thao at the time denied all the

accusations, telling others webb was disgruntled, had mental health issues, and made up lies. >> what sense would it make that i would help her win an election, run her transition team, and then all of a sudden, i just lose my mind. >> reporter: the fbi contacted webb and interviewed her for two and a half hours on february 3, 2023. she says agents asked a lot of questions about thao's campaign funding. >> it was about campaign contributions, about some of the appointments, you know, like to the port. >> reporter: webb says the fbi agents did not offer specifics about their investigation at the time and she doesn't know if the fbi raid is related to the pay-to-play allegation. the fbi remains tight lipped about the raid at thao's home. while the fbi has not accused thao or jones of any wrong doing, webb believes thao should resign. >> i texted her and told her i'm praying for her, but we still have to deal with the consequences of our behaviors.

you know? and i just hope she gets the help that she needs. >> reporter: we contacted thao's attorney to get a response over to pay-to-play allegation but we did not hear back from the attorney. as for jones, he has so far declined to speak to the media. it's unclear if he has retained a lawyer. >> as for day-to-day city business, the mayor already submitted her budget proposal. now the city council can approve budgets and allocate resources. and while the mayor says she is working from a remote location, the rest will be handled by oakland's city administrator. >> the city is run by the city administrator. so is that a real difference if she's not around? no, it's not a real difference. >> the raids on thursday hit at least three spots across oakland, thao's home, another home on view crest court, and another at an office building on embarcadero west. both of those locations are connected to political players in oakland, the duong family. they run the recycling company cal

waste solutions, and in a statement cal waste told us that they're confident investigators will find nothing wrong or unlawful. we'll have all the latest developments online at kpix.com and streaming on the cbs news app. organizers were pleased with the turnout for an event at lake merritt today despite safety concerns from the community following a recent shooting. this happened during the city's juneteenth celebration on wednesday where a fight broke out at an illegal sideshow. at least 15 people were shot, but none of the shooters were arrested. however, one person was taken into custody for assaulting a police officer. since the shooting, at least five vendors had pulled out of today's lakefest. organizers put up security fences around the park and say at least 50 officers were stationed around the area during the event. >> just making sure that our officers are out here engaging with people and trying to just create that connection to understand that we're out here working with our community and make it safe.

>> we reached out to the oakland police department to see if there were any arrests at today's event. we have not heard back. and still ahead tonight on cbs news bay area, governor newsom says that he's reached a budget agreement with the assembly and the senate. decisions that could affect your paycheck. and it's a change of seasons in tahoe. what sport is taking over the slopes.

taking a live look at our state's capitol where today governor newsom unveiled the state's bublt for the next two years. it comes as the state faces an estimated $56 billion budget deficit. lawmakers are hoping to help close the gap through $16 billion in cuts and then by taking $12 billion out of the state's emergency fund. it still doesn't add up, but it's a step in the right direction. the cuts affect housing, education, and state prisons. the plan announced today will keep $385 million in cuts from prisons on top of previous cuts and more than a billion dollars in funding will also be cut from affordable housing programs. $5.5 billion for schools will be delayed. healthcare workers also took a

hit. a raise to their minimum wage won't happen until at letober. well, do you ever wonder what happens to ski resorts in the summer? at the slopes of boreal mountain resort it becomes a mountain biker's paradise. bikers can take one of their lifts up the mountain and ride down their unique trails. only one lift is open right now, but crews are working hard to clear trees and branchs from the other trails to make sure they're safe to open. officials say all of the lifts should be open within the next few days. this year's above average snowfall also delayed the start of the season, but snow levels are much lower than last year. >> it's mostly melted out where we need it to at this point. we're just putting the finishing touches on the trail to make sure it's ready to go. >> the woodward bunker is also open for day sessions and summer camps. when you were working at yosemite -- >> yeah. >> -- mr. mr. peck, did you ski? >> not then. they do have the

the high rez imagery which does a great job of depicting how far inland the marine layer and clouds are going to get. tomorrow, 7:15, city's grayed over this. ribbon comes across the east bay, goes to napa. that's it. nobody else gets any clouds. it won't be terribly widespread in terms of the fog and the marine layer and the clouds, and it won't last long either, but the influence is still there. you're still getting a pretty god onshore flow from much of the immediate golden gate. daytime highs tomorrow in the mid-60s. low 70s in oakland. what we need to address are the places that needed the help. look up and down 680 over there. so you'll go 90, concord, 90 in livermore. mid-80s in the north bi, 86 for the south bay. the heat risk map looks better. there's a lot of red in the central valley and a lot of orange for our inland parts of alameda and contra costa county and by

tomorrow that's all gone. so we'll see in the seven-day forecast the numbers i just showed you for tomorrow are sticking around for most of the seven-day, but there are some other items of interest. take a look town here over mexico, over the highlands of mexico, we're going to take the leftovers of what was once tropical storm alberto and watch the flow in the atmosphere progressively bring the remnant moisture from that. this will be nothing like what the tropical storm was. but the leftovers of it have to go somewhere, and a little piece of it's going to get pulled off and sheered our way. and by tuesday, what's a high degree of certainty is we're going to notice the clouds. so maybe you'll see little more shade on tuesday, but the reason i'm talking about this is not to be quaint about it, it's because there's a possibility, a small possibility, some of this could still have a little convective energy to it. aka isolated thunderstorms. doesn't look super likely, but it is

possible. considering where we are now in fire season and the elevated degree of awareness on that, it's at least worth looking at this. should it roll around on monday, it won't come out of nowhere. look at the southern sierra, likely getting a few thunderstorms. maybe, you know, we could even notice a slight uptick in humidity here. that'd be helpful. so much still to go on that forecast. look at what happens to the temperatures as we go through the week. it doesn't even really hit us much. not going to change much for san francisco and oakland. san jose, your temperatures aren't really going to feel this either. it's after that where there might be just a slight drop in temperatures that shows up when we look at our final seven-day forecast here. and you can see what shows up there on tuesday and wednesday. look at wednesday into thursday for inland east bay. numbers down to the mid-80s. andrea, over to you. >> thanks, darren. coming up in sports, he helped the warriors win four nba championships, but could klay thompson be done with the dubs? the latest on the

does not look right, though, so to see this, forever giant brandon crawford wearing a different uniform sporting red in the cardinals dugout. we pick up the game in the first inning. giants off to a hot start. michael conforto tacked on two more runs with a line drive up the middle. conforto drives in three of the giants' four runs on the afternoon. jordan hicks facing his former team for the first time got some run support to work with but ran into trouble in the fourth. alec burleson sends a deep shot into the bullpen. the cardinals take the lead. we skip ahead to the sixth. the giants looking to keep this a one-run game, and burleson with the hot bat, he gets another long ball for the cardinals right fielder. this time into center field. the cardinals go on to win 9-4, and the giants now have lost four straight. in oakland, the a's had their ace j.p. sears on the mound, he's been struggling of late and it continues. he gave up a run in the first, but the

second inning got worse. manuel margot hits one deep to left field with two men on. the twins lead 4-1 early. sears just could not recover after that. a few batters later still no outs in the second, jose miranda made him pay. a double into left center drives in three more run, and the twins score seven just in the second inning. and they go on to win 10-2. the a's still have a chance to win back-to-back series on sunday. to the nba, the top item on the warriors to-do list this off-season is to sign klay thompson to a new deal. with contract negotiations heating up, here is another edition of klay watch. in the last 24 hours, contract talks are reportedly at a standstill with the warriors looking to sign thompson to a two-year deal, but thompson is looking for at least a three-year deal. and apparently is open to the idea of a fresh start somewhere

it's been a week of remembrance following the passing of willie mays. the giants face the cardinals thursday at the 114-year-old rickwood field in birmingham, alabama, to honor the negro leagues and willie mays. the say hey kid played on the field as a teenager with the black barons. his son michael along with godson barry bonds and ken griffey jr. paid one of many

tributes to mays in a pregame ceremony. back in san francisco, fans came through all day at oracle park to pay their respects to mays, and they got to stick around and watch the game from the outfield lawn. 70-year-old john frankel once going to miss this. he recalls catching a ball from mays in batting practice and bringing it home to show his mom. >> take it home, give it to my mom. my mom goes, what's this? i go, it's a baseball mom. she goes, well what now? i say, well willie mays hit it. she says, who's willie mays, because she didn't follow sports so. she takes the ball and she takes a pen and she writes wm 1964 may, and then there it disappeared for years. i finally move out of the house, she goes, hey, here's this baseball that some guy hit. and i go, yeah that's willie mays. >> reporter: years later, john brought that baseball with him to an old-timers day at candlestick park. >> some lady is right by the

dugout, probably a season ticketholder. she goes, give me the ball, i will get willie to sign it. great. so all of a sudden she starts yelling bob. i go, no, no, no, i don't want bob on the ball. >> bob lurie. >> yes, and it's the owner of the giants. she goes, hey, bob, can you get this ball signed for this young man over here? and he goes, is it true that he did this. i go, yeah, i've had it all this whole time. he walks out to first base. he signs it. so i got -- it says best wish, willie mays, on a baseball. made my day. a cherished piece for the rest of my life. >> willie mays having such a big impact on fans, former players, and even current players today, so he'll be sorely missed. >> i remember my dad taking me to see him, willie mays, in a game some time in the late '60s, you know what i was fascinated by? >> what were you fascinated by? >> there was a camera crew on the field, a film crew in those
