. tonight, oakland firefighters are mourning the loss of one of their own. the firefighter died early this morning during a trip to southern california. he was only 25 years old. he was visiting san diego for what was supposed to be a fun trip to participate in the firefighter olympics when he drowned in the ocean. >> reporter: caden was a third generation firefighter. he graduated from the academy five years ago and stationed in west oakland. he and friends were hanging out at san diego

pacific beach overnight when he got into the ocean and disappeared from view at around 2:00 a.m. after a search effort rescue crews found his body in the sand at 5:00 this morning >> it is a tremendous loss. one that we are still trying to get our arms around. >> oakland's fire chief got an early morning call from the chief in san diego and is still processing the loss. >> he was a rising star. very sharp individual, we had big plans for him, for his future. it is extremely tragic. >> reporter: he comes from a family of firefighters. his father a decorated oakland assistant chief doing an interview with us. he died four years ago after suffering a heart attack. he was 42 years old. >> his brother here on the left in the fire academy. >> they suffered great loss. incomprehensible how much loss

you can suffer and still remain standing. we will support them in any way we can. >> meanwhile, station 3 where he served . we are going to lean on each other. we are a family. we are going to hug each other up. we are going to push our way through. that is what we can do. >> today, they say his heart goes out to his family, the firefighter department and the fire chief was heading to san diego to bring his body home. some of his colleagues were battling the warehouse inferno when they learned that he died. the fire broke out just after 10:00 p.m. and ripped through a warehouse on 24th street. firefighters fought this fire for hours. commuters can see the smoke all morning from 880. they were warned to close the wound owes. the fire started on the sidewalk and spread into the building. >> in san francisco the zoo trying to raise money for giant

pandas, the player got an equipment the zoo leadership says they will need $70 million over the next decade. building enclosures and buying bamboo to put that into perspective. tax documents say the zoo's total expenses were about $24 million ending in june 2023. san diego's zoo is ahead of us, they are getting giant pandas, the first to enter the u.s. in more than 2 decades. they left china on wednesday on a 73mile journey to get to san diego. people at soot there are very excited. especially the kids. looking forward to seeing pandas for different reasons. >> they are like cute. >> i like their spots, the kind of things around their eyes. >> i started getting into pandas because that is my school mascot. >> they are really cute and fluffy. >> some of the kids can not believe the pandace are making

triple digit heat is looking likely. we will get into the details of that in a moment. the nice weather looking out from the hotel. the fog hanging out at the coast. pushing across the bay. temperatures in the 50s, holding on to 62 degrees. but it is another evening for inland spots to get free air-conditioning, enjoy it while it lasts. track the fog while we head into the morning. reduce visibilities for the morning. it will not last long. the fog will push across the bay and make some progress for the inland valleys for an hour or two of daylight tomorrow. retreating to the coast by midmorning and along the coast, we should see the fog backing away, allowing for the sunshine to peak through for cool friday afternoon. temperatures tonight, lower 50s. warmest spots in the upper 50s. the warmest spots, ending up near or slightly above average for highs by tomorrow afternoon. lower to middle 80s. these numbers, a couple degrees warmer than today. reasonable for late june, on the warm end

of the spectrum. 92 degrees in antioch. not out of control. the temperatures along the coast. around 60 degrees. no big changes there. upper 60s, 70s for san francisco and oakland. and the temperatures in the north bay, similar to what we are going to see in the santa clara valley. mostly middle 80s for the highs by tomorrow afternoon. a lot of stuff going on this weekend. the second concert in the stern grove concerts. temperatures in the middle 60s by sunday afternoon with slightly earlier part of the sunshine. the warm up will be much more noticeable hitting the end of the workweek, end of the weekend into next week. the 6-10 day outlook takes you through the fourth of july weekend. above normal temperatures through the fourth of july weekend and beyond that, the outlook is

showing a good chance. i was showing the model data this evening. slowing this kind of pattern, warm temperatures for most of the western u.s., hot temperatures, in fact, sticking around through much of the month of july. that might be what we are in for. let's focus on the next seven-days. first of all, inland temperatures, reaching up with spots in the upper 80s and 90s. to more 90s in the forecast on sunday. then the heat, really, it settles in. three days of triple digit or near triple digit temperatures monday, tuesday, wednesday, increasing the concern it could last thursday, friday, saturday, the majority of the weekend. likely to get heat advisories for inland bay area. a warm up but not as intense. the temperatures in the 70s through the weekend and then into the 80s. the wild card is, will we have off shore winds to go along with the hot weather? right now, we will not lose the onshore influence. it means bayside and coastal temperatures are not going to

be out of control hot. the warmest days on the coast, 70 degrees, tuesday, wednesday, thursday. but, if those off shore winds do develop that would push the marine influence farther off shore and would allow coastal temperatures to maybe get up to 80 degrees approaching 90 around the bay. that is a big if at this point. it is in the relm of possibilities. we will continue to evaluate. >> that would be something. hoping for the best, we don't want any fire danger >> no. >> that will go up. >> yes, inland >> yes, yes. >> we will be keeping you posted on all of that. thank you, paul. nobody can figure out why these mysterious structures are popping up all over the world. now they are back. warriors bizo draft day. we will tell what you happened and who was the result.

. a surfer had a jump scare in santa cruz. did not involve a shark, a different animal entirely. one that looks like something that your kid drew but did not make it on to your fridge if you know what i am saying. straight to the recycling pile. this is a sun fish. at first the surfer spotted the fin that looked like a shark but then they got a look at the head and the eyeball sticking out of the water. they are huge. back in 1998 a sun fish at the monterey bay aquarium grew so much it had to be airlifted into the ocean. it weighed 880 pounds, 300 more pounds than the aquarium thought it would be. this was smaller. the guy that took a picture said it was the first time they ever seen one but they do tend to be in the water off of the coast of santa cruz >> nope, nope, nope, nope. >> i know they are not a
