4th of july. and what's more iconic than fireworks? right well with the conditions right now, things could go wrong and people could get hurt very quickly today we're looking at the heightened dangers given are extreme heat. will also talk live with the peninsula, humane society about protecting our pets when those fireworks go off. we'll have that conversation in just a few moments, but 1st a look at your news headlines. and sonoma county a 27 year old man is believed to have drowned in the russian river. that happened at the v. a grand beach just before sundown last night drivers search the water but did not find the individual. crews are using a boat was sonar technology. to scan the river floor. thompson fire continues to spread through thousands of acres of butte county since it broke out on tuesday. the fire has forced widespread evacuations. in and around the city of oroville. for firefighters have been injured. it and 4 structures destroyed. cal fire, says 12. additional structures are threatened. conditions have

been calm so far today at least 2000 firefighters are battling this the flames there and, of course it would not be the 4th of july without a good parade. right. well, this parade in danville has been happening since the 70s. were told some residents started lining up yesterday afternoon. to claim their front row seats. and in san jose, this was the rose white and blue parade marchers set off from dana avenue and made their way all the way to the alameda. where the parade goers have been enjoying an independence day festival, complete with musical performances. and dancing. and this is video from the pleasant hill parade this morning. it was followed by a party in the park with live music and other festivities. and in alameda county firefighters held their annual 4th of july pancake breakfast in newark. plenty of food, of course along with demonstrations games and the classic cruisers car club. proceeds benefit the firefighters. charity fund and people in san jose, are beating the heat at this revamped water

park reopening just in time for the holiday. you might have known it as raging waters. well, now it's under new management as caliber bunga water park looks perfect for a day like today. because it's another 1st alert. weather day across the bay area as we continue our stretch of potentially dangerous heat and red flag conditions. meteorologist zoe mince has our forecast from the virtual view studio. hey, zoe. happy fourth of july. we are looking at a heart next couple of days in store, but today you have any outdoor activities, especially inland you need to practice heat safety find breaks find time to spend in the shade drink a lot of water and do not forget the sunscreen. especially later this afternoon, where well above 100 degrees is forecast. take a little bit closer to the coast and the bay area's not nearly as hot. in fact, we're about 20 degrees cooler. the further closer to the coast. you get an even closer. okay? 20 degrees cooler than that happening day areas might not

even reach 70. degrees. this afternoon. but elsewhere that's where the concern lies. much higher risk for heat related illnesses in places that are highlighted in pink excessive heat warnings in effect all the way through the weekend, so any outdoor plans you have over the next several days. you need to practice that heat safety in any outdoor activities that might have involved burning of avoid those at all costs as we do have a red flag warning in effect that we'll continue. thing that does spark will spread very, very quickly on a day like today and tomorrow as this area of high pressure or what's known as a heat dome continues to build off the west coast and as it does so. that area of heat vary. oppressive heat that will continue to build overhead again there is really no escape. in sight over the next several days, but very early this morning we saw gorgeous. start to our day we saw that moon rising the colors in the sky. were absolutely fantastic. so there is some positive i like to think about the positives. while we can.

but this afternoon coastal communities that's going to be the biggest positive when it comes to embracing more of that comfortable heat. san francisco highs only in the upper 70s, but heading on further towards the north bay. that's when the heat begins to build upper 90s are going to be in the forecast and further inland. this is our biggest concern. concord. antioch's quell above 100. degrees. i know there were some events that were even canceled. because of this heat and the heat will continue. further south. although places like fremont redwood city might be a degree or 2 cooler than yesterday. in the mid to upper 90s still are going to be hot and upper 90s to low triple digits in the santa clara valley. all things to keep in mind. and definitely need to practice that heat safety and make sure you are aware water water water reapply. apply the sunscreen and you are going to hopefully enjoy your fourth of july holidays. safely. because this heat is no joke. the heat is going to stick around today. tomorrow end into saturday, but check out our high temperatures. by sunday and

drier across the bay area. first responders are looking at the confluence of the calendar and the weather forecast. and they see trouble. >we're here right now, with a few of our pieces of apparatus that are specialized for responding to wild land fires. alameda county fire is just 1 of the department's staffing up for the week, and they even said a hillside on fire to show just how dry things already are. and with the 4th of july, it's rarely just 1 fire. >in perspective. if we have a small draft grass fire in castro castro valley we respond all these specialized resources to kashmir valley. now we have something starts in livermore. now we need to balance of who needs to go to cash to rally who goes to livermore? meanwhile, fire starts in union city now we have 3 different cities driving in a bay area through traffic we're talking, you know 50 to 100 patients at our facility just around that holiday. time. the head of the burn unit joined in for santa clara county's >plea >>for holiday restraint and law enforcement. is also mobilizing for the annual flood. of

believe it or not, those numbers are down from the pandemic years when more americans used fireworks at home instead of watching the professional displays. it's still too many, though considering that these are all preventable and safety experts. out even the safe and sane fireworks can be dangerous if they're not used properly. still ahead, keeping our pets safe on this fourth of july, we'll talk live with the peninsula humane society, but how to calm your animals when the fireworks are going off? and it's a very different kind of show in the skies meet a bay area man who is mapping out drone light shows.

prompt some pets to run and hide or even worse, run away. the humane society says. the stress from fireworks could be so overwhelming. and can put animals and hazardous situations and even lead to fatal. health effects. >dog that has heart disease or even epilepsy. these dogs can get so frightened from the fireworks that it can cause them to have a stroke or even cause a seizure to come on. so you need to know your dogs. help history. >liz>yeah. join me live now is calling crowley from the peninsula humane society and s. p. c. a. thanks so much for being with us on this holiday. >live>it's nice to be with you, elizabeth. thank >liz>you. so how can we best protect our dogs and cats from the stress that comes with fourth of july and all the fireworks? >live>yeah. it can definitely be a stressful time for them. it's a good idea to keep them inside. once the fireworks start for sure as it starts to get dark. um most pets are going to be pretty unhappy. going. we love to bring our

pets everywhere, >liz>right? >>but not to the fireworks displays. um, for for the vast majority of them, they're going to be happiest in your home and, um it's a good idea >liz>that >>keep them. you know i was hearing your a couple of people just on the interviews just now, saying they might run and hide. you know if your pet goes and hides in a closet or under a >liz>bed. >>follow their lead. you know, they feel safe there. so maybe draw the shades keep the booms >liz>out. >>maybe turn on a radio to drown out some of the shocking boom sounds just to make it a little more easy. full >liz>on them. do you think it's a good idea? perhaps to put them in a place like a bathroom and closed the door with obviously food, the water and their parties that they need it just to kind of keep them contained and safe and away from the noise already, or is that stressful too? >live>you know, people know their pets. uh, really well, so maybe not locked in there, but just it's like, go and tuck themselves away somewhere. um, you know, let them do that. you can give them access to you

know, room with the shades drawn. so they don't see that. shocking. lights. and you know, maybe put on a little bit of sound to drown out those those big booms. but maybe not locked them in a room if they're going to feel, um that that that might make a pet more anxious, so just follow your pets lead, >liz>you know, they >live>know how >liz>to bring themselves for sure. now i know also, we're dealing with the excessive heat for so much of the bay area and a lot of us. frankly, don't have air conditioning. so the 1st instinct when it gets hot outside, and it starts to cool down at night is to open up the windows. is that a good idea, though? if you've got little furry friends running around and there's going to be fireworks nearby, >live>right, you know the scared pets can be great escape artists so yeah, you know if you do have a conditioning and you can close all the windows, that's a great idea. um, if you can't, you know, maybe it does need to be there sectioned off to the section of the house so they can't escape. because you do have to balance out. for

sure keeping them cool. i was listening to your, uh, your weather report. giving some great tips for humans and a lot of the things are similar for pets. they were saying water, water water, you know, give them access to water. find the coolest place in the house. maybe maybe it's your garage floor. it's your house, but make sure they're not getting into you know, toxic paints and things. um, maybe it's outside before the fireworks start, you know and fenced off yard under a shady tree if there's a breeze just whenever it's going to be that balance of you know, keeping them cool and, um for unfortunately, it will cool off a little bit. hopefully when the loudest sounds are happening, so maybe then they >liz>could be >live>yeah. off up into the >liz>house. yeah. and, you know, obviously this is the worst case scenario, but god forbid, what should you do if your pet gets lost during or after the fireworks? what should you do, >live>write great question. um, i would say the 1st thing don't wait around, maybe knock on some neighbors stores and have a look around your own neighborhood. fortunately, these days we tend

each precise movement, >the blue lines represented drones where they're coming from and where they go to to creating a show. in the night. sky, hoping to wow and audience watching below. >people laugh in the right spot. you hope people crying the right spot. you hope people applied in the right spots and so far i've been lucky that they have and they sort of connected and got that after 6 years in business, john eric henry is now trying to grow his local drone studio. at a time. when cities and counties are shifting from fireworks shows. >recognize that drone light shows. are really the thing of the future. especially in areas where there is high. fire danger. it is 1 of the reasons the city of napa surrounded by dry brush, pivoting to a drone light show for their 4th of july. i celebrate. celebration. consideration when you think about, um the potential for red flag warnings elevated temperatures. drier conditions

in general. um and you know a lot of fuel from somewhat what winter that always affects. um you know fuels for >fired. >>yeah. show in 400 drones from a big production house from out of state. from the office to his warehouse. >this is called skylab. eric henry's pinnacle productions is looking to compete with the bigger studios. >drones do you have right now? plus drones? and on this day we caught up with him testing his 3 d printed drones preparing them for an upcoming show. >the captain the color 3 l test for lift. the 2nd 1 is for lawyer or hover and the last 1 is land if those drones past the sort of tolerance or stress tests, and we can rest assured until we fly the whole show in rehearsal that the show is actually going to work out in the way we design it, designing shows were the future as he tries to literally. grow his business.

this is video from a recent trip he took overseas where he will soon go from 200 to 1000. drones by the end of the year. >recently came back from china. it was a 7 day visit. i was visiting. a drone, manufacturer. looking up to build bigger and more impressive shows and helping an audience to literally see the light. >anc3 mic>yeah. john just told me he said it to modesto to help with the drone show there and then tomorrow. will perform a drone light show for oakland's 1st fridays and that show that he was building in this story is for the oakland roots soccer season finale in october. and he hopes to have those 1000. drones up and flying all in time for a massive show and he's crossing his fingers for new >liz>year's eve. it. i see this being kind of the future >anc3 mic>of fireworks, absolutely >liz>right. and the concerns especially with the fire danger, you got to think i mean, those shows are tacular. >anc3 mic>we'll think about up
