call. it is, it is terrifying, frightening. >> reporter: the latest from the police. plus, the president defiant on the campaign trail after more democrats call on him to drop out of the race. >> i promise you, i am okay >> his message tonight. from kpix this is the late news with sara donchey on cbs news bay area. hi, i'm sara donchey. we start right now with major breaking news, fremont police are trying to find a 3-year-old girl reported missing after her father was found dead. we are going to show you pictures of ellie lorenzo. her mom filed a missing person. her father was supposed to drop her off today but the father was found dead in san francisco. sfpd is investigating his death. they have not said how he has died. the police say the father's

location was tracked through several bay area cities before he ended up dead in san francisco. numerous police departments are helping in the search for her right now. >> this is not a normal sort of call. it is, it is terrifying, frightening for certainly the family, for all of us in law enforcement. we are doing, we are going to be here late, trying to locate this missing child.. >> the police are asking for the public's help if you have any information to help them out or if you have seen her, call 911. she was last seen at the casa aroa apartments in fremont. >> it has been hot and long week for so many people in the bay area. many people have been boiling in triple digits this week. as we head into the weekend there is good news, a cool down is coming eventually. it will be good for the people living in inland parts of the

bay.. >> there is finally relief coming in. beginning with the fog that is over san francisco. temperatures topped out at 100 degrees and 90s elsewhere. 99 in santa rosa, san jose, 92 degrees, there is still a heat advisory in effect for inland parts of the bay area on saturday. it means heat sensitive people may have issues. there does not need to be a heat advisory in effect. the weather service being extraordinarily and overly cautious. temperatures will be within 5 degrees of average this time of the year. it will be warm, maybe hot in some of the warmest locations, barely above 90 degrees in concord, even the hottest spots are going to hit the middle 90s that is typical for the middle of july and we can look at this with a heat riching. today, in antioch, one of the hottest spots is in the extreme category. over the weekend, saturday, sunday, barely grazing the elevated category.

again, the heat advisory is an overstep. i don't think it will be dangerously hot this weekend at all. the temperatures hovering near average heading through the first half of next week. we will take a look at the seven-day forecast and what is in store coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you. today there was a scare aboard a flight at sfo. making headlines, seven people hurt after they had to rush off of their american airlines flight after smoke started filling the cabin. the flight was getting ready to take off from sfo to miami when smoke started pouring out of someone's bag. a passenger described what happened. >> we were up front and suddenly we heard a lot of screaming. fire, fire, fire! we could see the smoke as well and we just left all of our belongings on the seat and we rushed out. and there were children crying and they also, started the evacuation slide and people coming down the rear as well. they had crew, ground

staff, the whole emergency crew, paramedics and the fire department, everybody was really calm and good to us and make us comfortable. got us waters. >> kudos to all of the staff, sfo great job in handling all of this really well. thank you. >> we have more from sfo on what sparked all of that chaos. >> reporter: with the laptop on the ground, investigators examined the charred backpack. they believe the laptop started a small fire and the smoke quickly filled the cabin causing panic among some of the passengers. here is the pilot's may day call to control tower. >> hello ground it is american, 2045, we have a may day, may day, may day. a fire in the back of the aircraft. start the emergency rescue. >> officials were still at the gate. happened at 12:15 during boarding of flight 2045 with service from sfo to miami. they

say smoke was reported from a passenger's carry on bag. airline officials say some customers evacuated using the jet bridge and others jumped into the inflatable emergency slides. one evacuee tweeted it was desperate until someone opened the metal door and we were able to escape as we were all blocked in the hallway. some people slightly injured. another passenger wrote, there was a light stampede. people screaming, fire in the back. and rushing towards the doors. here is a video from a witness of the aftermath. we don't know how many passengers were inside of the plane during the evacuation. and, sfo spokesperson says three passengers reported minor injuries from the evacuation and one of those people required medical transport. >> it sounds really terrifying. i can not imagine. i am glad they were on the ground when it happened. had they been in the air it could have been disastrous. when panic sets in and people are not sure what is going on. >> reporter: a passenger and her co-worker are waiting for

their flight. they say they are glad no one was serious low hurt snow i can't believe it happen -- seriously hurt. >> i can't believe it happened. i never think of that. i have a laptop, sure, and you figuring it is safe because you used it forever but sometimes they do get hot. >> no one thinks about that. i don't even put the in sleep mode i just close it sometimes. so, yeah, a new thing we need to pay attention to. >> reporter: those evacuated passengers postponed by at least 11 hours. at last check their flight pushed back to 11:15 p.m. friday night. >> president biden is making it clear he has no intention of leaving the presidential race. he campaigned in michigan today. a must-win battleground state. he tried to get voterred fired up. but, support from -- voters fired up but support from congressional democrats. motown is joe town.

kind of thing. returning to normal temperatures as we head to the second half of the weekend. slightly above average tomorrow. the cloud cover, floating through the skies ahead. also, smoke trying to make its way towards us. the fire burning in southern california, we will focus on both of those aspects in a moment. here is the good news for us, the normal temperatures around the bay area are going to continue into the first half of next week. let's talk, first, about the threat of monsoonal moisture. not in the bay area but much of the united states there is one of the problems when the monsoonal moisture comes towards us. we get lightning strikes in the dry grass. even if no new fires break out smoke has been drifting up towards us in the past 24 hours in the fires burning in santa barbara, and san bernardino county. elevated

in the atmosphere. air quality, moderate, even with the haze on the horizon, future cast, tracking through the depth of it. not just at ground level. not looking likely that much of the smoke is going to settle down towards ground level and significantly deteriorate our air quality. we will keep an eye on it. right now, temperatures from 55 degrees in san francisco, down to 57 already in santa rosa. free air-conditioning, mild inland in the east bay. your temperatures are cooling off nicely. lowtory middle 70s. the past couple of nights still in the 80s as of 11:00. temperatures dropping down to a mix of 50s and 60s by tomorrow morning, the warmest spots staying above 70 degrees. the fog will try to make more of a push by tomorrow morning, not going to have a lot of success. let's take a look at that on our floor map here. we will see the fog poking through the golden gate and making its way inside of the bay. it is not going to make its way into the inland valleys. it should back away from the coast by late

morning tomorrow for one more day. the clouds along the coast will be tough to shake as we head into the afternoons for sunday and for most of next week. high temperatures tomorrow they are going to be, again, 5 degrees of what is normal for this time of the year. here they are. middle to upper 80s. backed off the numbers from earlier newscasts. lower to middle 90s. only middle 80s for fairfield. lower 80s for fremont and 60s for the coast and half moon bay. upper 60s in san francisco and the north bay, 100 degrees yesterday on a widespread basis. the temperatures are going to stay close to average heading into the first half, at least, of next week. the 10 day outlook for livermore shows a climb towards the end of the seven-day forecast and then into the following weekend but that is a little farther down-the-line. let's just enjoy the near average temperatures while they last. the temperatures are going to run into the middle to upper

80s inland, again, it is warm t, it is july, a warm time of year. not hitting 90 degrees on a widespread basis until thursday next week. around the bay, consistent temperatures, lower to middle 70s. back to the back and forth fog pattern every night and morning. along the coast, the fog will not be back and forth it is just going to be around. beginning on sunday, continuing monday through friday of next week and that keeps the temperatures in the lower half of the 60s also what we expect in the month of july, sara? >> all right, paul, thank you very much. there has been a lot of talk over the past few years about breathing new life into downtown san francisco. sometimes when you are there it feels like you see a vacant store front or office at every turn. a group of creatives is turning to unique places to host shows and art experiences. one of those venues is a bank a 100-year-old building that sits in the middle of the market
