heatwave, yes, still in progress. let's switch over to the weather maps to see what is happening in the weekend. or i don't have anything to talk about. let's talk about the observed tomorrows from earlier today. we are just waiting on the weather graphics to show up. 75 degrees, that is the high temperature in san francisco. 84 in oakland and then the real heat was fartherip land. we expected. 90 s in san jose and redwood city. very close to records in san jose and and two degrees shy in both directions. tomorrow is not as hot but still a few degrees above average. 70s around the bay, 80s, 90s inland, instead of 90 exps low 100s. back down to average high temperatures on sunday that break from the heat will not settle into significant portions of the region at large. it is still going to be hot for the central valley into nevada and phoenix and arizona it is just going to be cooking

generally for most of the weekend. 114 degrees if phoenix, 113 in vegas. the temperatures in palm springs, 113 degrees as well. back up to the bay area, still, air quality an issue this weekend. moderate air quail, some of the mostly cloudy from the wildfires and others drifting to the skies over head. not much of that settling down towards ground level. taking a look ahead at the next spell that looms next week coming up in the full forecast in a few minutes. because of driveway winds this weekend. pg&e are warning they might cut power to 16,000 customers in seven counties. planned outages start at 11:00 a.m., reducing the risk of wildfires as always. here in the bay area, 500 customers total could have their power shut off as a part of this. now, from power outages to tech outages and a big one. it has been more than 24 hours now since the blue screen of death started flashing on desk tops and screens around the world.

millions, billions of them including here in our news room. last night we were trying to figure out why most of our computers would not boot up and we were rushing to put a show on the air that seemed impossible until the very last second. you will notice our show looks a little different tonight. that is because we are dealing with a major computer system outage that could be connected to reports of a larger outage for microsoft customers. there may be a few glitches. we are here on the air with you on the air tonight. >> there were a few of the glitches last night. we were part of the largest it outage in history. it hit companies here in california all of the way to australia. luckily the bay area seemed to avoid the worst of the impact. everyone is asking how can something like this happen? crowdstrike, based in austin, texas s one of the world's largest cybersecurity companies, widely used by businesses and agencies that use microsoft to protect

against hackers but last night crowdstrike pushed out a update that turned out to have a big problem with it. since the software is dopily integrated to microsoft operating systems that update caused computers running windows to freeze. crowdstrike put out a fix. the result seemed to impact every kind of business and agency that you can think of. 911 call centers went down. hospitals including kaiser here in the bay area had problems with their systems and there were incredibly long lines at airports around the world because of this. >> it looks like a scene from gladiators, a million people all around. >> terrible, i have a 5-year-old nephew who is cranky, wants to go home, my 85-year-old grandmother sleeping on the floor. i never seen her do that in my life. >> stories like that all over the country, the world. look at this. 12 hour time lapse of america, delta plane traffic when the outage forced a ground stop for them. last check, more than 3,000 u.s. flights were

canceled over 11,000 have been delayed. more than 100 of the canceled flights were at sfo the airport that got hit the hardest. frustrated travelers told us it will take days for them to fly out. >> sunday we had all of the tourist plans, that is all gone. now we have to wait seven to eight hours to get our bags. they told us it should subside by saturday night because the effect will continue. so, but the earliest we can get out is on sunday, direct flight, that is gone. now we are connecting for four hours, it will just be a miserable weekend. >> airports probably one of the worst places to be for something like that. the outage hit courthouses where clerks and judges had issues accessing case files, the city of oakland reported widespread computer problems there that are expected to be fixed by next

week. 911 was going to be resolved. if you are having trouble, wrapping your head around the idea that a few lines of bad code could cause trouble like this all over the world you are not alone. our wilson walker talked to two tech experts here in the bay who are also shaking their heads. >> it has a ping-pong playing robot for example. >> reporter: table tennis-playing robots, one of the more fun elements of professor's lab at uc berkeley. the big topic of conversation here today? the very not fun consequences of the crowdstrike update that effected everything from airlines to health care systems. >> what struck me is, you know, how brittle it was, how brittle our systems were because in the brooder scheme of things we ought to have been able to

isolate and to some extent compartmentalize the damage. the damage really, you know, spread across the world. >> reporter: he said mistakes happen and that is the reason for sandboxing or testing software in a contained environment especially something used on this scale. >> having a misconfiguration which has not been caught it is really mind boggling to me.. >> didn't you apply the upgrade on anything before sending it to all around the world? >> reporter: cal state east bay professor equally surprised. >> yes, sir. yeah, and there is a wow factor, okay. so, this shows us that how our computing systems right now as of today in the world, interconnected and complex and it is

vulnerable. that is very important. vulnerable through a mistake. >> reporter: the vulnerability embedded in the systems we depend on and often take for granted until they fail. >> and that is our life, unfortunate low. we will see these things more in the future because things are getting more complex and things are getting more interconnected. >> the number of incidents will go up, the severity of the incident is really what we need to think about. >> reporter: he says today's crash is a sign that we have prioritized speed and convenience at the expense of resilience. that may need to change. >> you know, but this really was on that scale truly a wake up call for us. >> any impacts to the outage could take a few days, perhaps many more for companies to get figured out. more and more people seem to be calling for president joe biden to drop out of the race within his own party, even.

there are new signs that his campaign says no matter, we are forging ahead. so far more than 30 congressional democrats pushed for biden to step aside, publicly. what we just learned tonight, former late show front man david letterman is set to head a fundraiser with biden and the first lady. held at a family friend's home. it is being hosted by hawaii governor josh green, a long time biden family friend. biden's campaign has planned 10 other fundraising events over the last 10 days of july. biden is still recovering from covid at his home in delaware. but it did not stop him from weighing in on donald trump's speech at the republican national convention. biden posted what the hell was he talking about? the president wrote, he praised hannibal lect r and he is not real. tonight, latest lawmaker

the wind in the mid-levels of the atmosphere transferring smoke burning in the southern sierra in the bay area. most of it elevated. the atmosphere, not at ground level. better on sunday. heat dome returning. monday, tuesday, trapping urban pollution and sending us back on tuesday. not much fog out there just yet as we look north. the temperatures are still all over the place. we have 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, still 83 degrees in concord, holding on to the warmth inland in the east bay. the temperatures will continue to drop heading through the rest of tonight. we will see fog spreading out once it starts to redevelop and get its act together. let's look at thereat on the floor map. the fog will not spread too far into the inland valleys, more widespread this morning and one of the aspects of that means tell will slow down the warm up just a little bit compared to the conditions that we had today. just the presence of the fog initially for half an hour to an hour inland will keep the

temperatures closer to what is normal this time of the year. after we start off slightly on the positive side of average. lowtory middle 60s. could be worse. temperatures starting off at 64 degrees, should be 60 degrees at morgan hill. lower 60s inland, east bay, near 70 degrees to start the day around antioch and brentwood. 50s around the bay for the most part, 60 in oakland, with the temperatures in the north pay cooling down more efficiently dropping into the 50s. a huge drop in santa rosa after you are 103 today, dropping by 46 degrees by early tomorrow morning, high temperatures tomorrow, again, mentioning it earlier, above average, 5 degrees above normal. 70s around the bay, a lot of 80s inland, warmest spots getting into the lower to middle 90s. the heat risk will be significantly lower. even in the hottest spots than it was today. in the very high category in antioch. tomorrow, elevated category. then, in the slight category by sunday. it

does not last long. hot temperatures returning as we head through next week. let's take a look at the seven-day forecast starting inland where the temperatures will be back to flirting at least for 100 degrees. backing down thursday, the last day of the seven-day forecast. back to below normal temperatures inland on friday. that looks like it will continue all of the way through the last weekend of july and maybe even into early august. once we get through the next stretch of hot weather inland there will be relief on a longer term basis. temperatures around the bay not warming up. the warmest, near 80 degrees, monday, tuesday, wednesday, for the coast, not warming up at all. staying in the 60s. more sunshine, monday, tuesday, wednesday, gray conditions along the coast this weekend. that is what you expect here in snow sky july, matt? >> coming up in sports, warriors, two wins away from another piece of hardware. the second half
