on sunday interrupted governor newsom is work >out. yeah. yeah. yeah. >liz>in just two hours. president biden will explain to the country why he dropped out of the race. that decision paved the way for vice president kamala harris to take the top spot on the democratic ticket. meantime, former president trump is getting ready to take the stage any minute now and charlotte, north carolina. this is his first rally since president biden ended his campaign. and he's is expected to turn his focus too. to kamala harris will have more on the race coming up, but first a look at today's headlines. lines. lots of police around the israeli consulate in san francisco as israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu. addressed a joint meeting of congress. he paid a visit to d. c, hoping to bolster us support for the war against hamas. near the capital, some bay area residents joined thousands of

demonstrators who are protesting netanyahu's visit and calling for an end to the war in gaza. yeah. just doesn't really unprecedented time. it's a painful time, but i think we have a message of hope. right to see, uh, that you know, palestine is not just a singular issue. it's connected to all of the issues that are coming in this election cycle. so that we hope that people can make these connections and they are doing it. so i'm hopeful. >liz>who is scheduled to meet with president biden and vice president harris tomorrow. in oakland, a homeless encampment sweep. continues near the bay bridge toll plaza from our chopper you could see crews starting to demolish the camp that toll plaza beach it is the first high profile sweep in the bay area since the supreme court gave cities more power to clear encampments on public property. also in oakland speed cameras are going to be installed at intersections throughout the city will be at 18 spots that are identified as some of the most dangerous.

oakland is one of several cities taking part in a five year pilot program. the cameras are expected to be installed by next year. governor newsom is office says the national guard seized 8 million fentanyl pills in the past six months. and that includes a million pills. last month alone with the street value of nearly 4 million. million. tesla stock plunged more than 12% today after the company saw a second straight quarterly decline in profits. meanwhile, alphabet stock slid by 5%. both companies led the nasdaq to its worst day. day since 2012. well, he wave is still sticking around a big changes are around the corner. meteorologist jessica birch is tracking things from our virtual view studio. hey, jess. it's another first alert. weather day here in the bay area as we're gearing up for some extreme heat lasting into the afternoon, hours today, here's what's happening. high pressure has been sitting pretty close to the state of california warming us up and

drying us up well above average for this time of year. but heading into this weekend, low pressure moves in from the gulf of alaska, and that's going to cool us off nicely. right around the corner for plenty of outdoor events happening this weekend, so watch what happens on our excessive heat risk map. i'm going to use antioch as an example one of our hottest spots for a day like today. we're still in that high can category for the heat risk. it starts to decrease as we head into our thursday forecast and by friday, we are right back to where we should be. so here is what the numbers are looking like for us today, daytime highs this afternoon seventies. anywhere from oakland across the bay bridge over into san francisco. friends off into the east bay and over into the santa clara valley, anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees above average, that's what we're expecting today, so let's take a look at the numbers and what that really means for us areas like san francisco and daily city are holding on tight to seventies this afternoon, healdsburg all the way up into the north. b 96 degrees we have nineties and triple digits off into the east bay as we had anywhere from concord. over in a fairfield and as we zoom out, and you can actually see the contrast you have sixties along the coast, which look very,

very different compared to these upper nineties near antioch as we head into this afternoon, let's head down into the santa clara valley now more nineties in sight for us as we head into the afternoon hours today, this is the type of weather where you're going to want to take it slow into the afternoon hours. find a shady spot if you do work outside and just drink lots of water continue to take good care of your body. on an extreme daylight today we're going to see nineties in the forecast. tomorrow, but here's the good news our inland areas cool down quick by friday. we're talking about eighties by saturday. seventies in the forecast for us, of course, we don't see that for too much longer. we have eighties once we head into next week, but it is worth noting that we are getting rid of that huge. heat on that's been sitting over us. throughout the past couple days as early as tomorrow. now, as we head over to the bay we have seventies turning into sixties throughout this weekend forecast by sunday. just in time for the san francisco marathon. we have seventies. on the corner, but that's into the afternoon. >liz>president biden not revealing much about his speech tonight, telling reporters to tune in and listen he's

horeni anti taheri. to harris supporters. christian has been championing the current vice president since 2019. she lied, zavala. a volunteer organization that was south asians for biden. just 48 hours ago. and is now quickly pivoted to south asians. for harris. this is 24 hours old. it's good to have this momentum. because we have to act on it. there's a lot of work to be done. there's a lot of mobilizing a lot of organizing because after the initial excitement it's about doing the work. it's been nonstop for krishnan, whose phone never stopped buzzing during our time together. texting me photos as we speak right now, saying this is a therapist rallies happening. here's the photo. thousands of pieces of material are currently being reprinted with their new logo for herod. yes, it's a symbol of a much larger goal. krishnan has been working towards electing not just a female but kamala as president. why it means to see her as a south asian woman. president. i means that my daughters jenna,

me and obvio. who are 25 and 23. can see themselves in her. christian attended a virtual meeting monday, where the california state delegation confirmed their support for harris taking her one step closer to receiving the nomination. krishnan was one of three speakers at the meeting alongside former house speaker nancy pelosi. where i was able to speak and talk to these delegates about my journey with me, p. harris and say this is the candidate. this. this is our hometown girl. we should align behind her. it was so special, and i will say probably one of the most. meaningful moments of my life. and i will tell my grandchildren that momentum is buzzing around the so called k hive. a group of longtime supporters close to harris. it's also led in part by christian in of course. supporters. her core. family. who are there, too? push back.

the nation about two hours from now, the first time we've really seen him on tv. since he announced he was stepping down from the ticket and endorsing vice president kamala harris, what are you going to be looking for? tonight? i've been speaking to advisers. close to president biden all day and it's evident to me he has two goals tonight number one to reflect on his decision to not seek the democratic nomination. to go over in a reflective thoughtful way, his thought process how he arrived at that decision at age 81. so the nation understands why he made this decision. in the summer, not earlier in the year. how he came to it the second goal is to make sure he defines the rest of his presidency. yeah. his allies telling me he doesn't want to be seen as a lame duck president. so he's going to talk. in particular about foreign policy on the same day, prime minister netanyahu spoke in washington president biden wants to address what's going on in the middle east. what's going on with ukraine to project confidence to the american

people that he is in command, especially when it comes to foreign policy and, of course, domestic policy. harris campaign only has about four months to convince voters that she is the right person to be president. not a lot of time. but do you think that's an advantage in this particular election with this? particular opponent? it's already evidently an advantage. in terms of fundraising. there has been a surge of democratic fundraising in recent days since president biden made that announcement. on sunday, and she has already consolidated phenomena. the nomination and let's not forget the fact that she does not have a challenger for the nomination is a statement in and of itself politically. she's now moving toward the convention in chicago in august with a lot of money. a lot of support behind her the challenge he faces based on my conversations. with top democrats. is going to be the it coming republican attacks. they're already starting to define her as an ultra liberal in republican advertising on social media on television. how she fends off those attacks and that attempt to define her early on in this

campaign. this compressed campaign. we're really determine how this campaign unfolds. a little bit more about that, because yesterday, donald trump talked about her career as d a here in san francisco. she said she destroyed the city now san francisco and the bay area seen by many as having an extreme. liberal bias liberal. politics. is that something? you think she's going to have to fight as long as she campaigns across the country to other, more conservative states. it is going to hound her politically for the rest of this campaign. there's no doubt about that. every single republican campaign i'm talking to is ready to link house candidates and senator can candidates to her record, especially as you recall when she ran for president in 2019. and she took a lot of liberal positions publicly on camera. you're going to see a clip. after clip. in different campaigns. but the harris campaign tells me behind the scenes, they feel pretty good that they can counter republican messaging on this through the vice presidential pick by picking someone who's perceived nationally as moderate or

centrist on the issues that will help balance out the ticket, so what do you think is going on in the trump campaign, right now? i mean, they've dominated the news. cycle for the past few weeks with the assassination attempt and then the rnc. now the headlines are all about kamala. what do they need to do to sway those undecided voters who maybe more. re energy is now. hey, i spoke to former president trump just a few days ago on sunday. and he told me that it's it's full steam ahead. he is still running against the biden record, he told me that harris might be the on the top of the ticket, but he at this point, it's going to constantly link her as much as he can. to. immigration to the border policy of the biden administration. he's also going to use you see there, senator jd vance of ohio. is running mate to really try to run up the score. politically in michigan. wisconsin pencil rania, those industrial midwest state. the trump campaign believes they still have very solid footing in those states. you're going to see even renewed, focus. on those states
