with each hour. it started yesterday at the podium in palm beach. trump recounted the story of a scary helicopter ride claiming that willie brown, a san francisco legend, was there with him. >> well, i know willie brown very well. in fact i went down in a helicopter with him. we thought this was the end. we were going to a certain location together. there was an emergency landing. this was not a pleasant landing. and willie was, he was a little concerned. so i know him pretty well. i mean i haven't seen him in years. >> all right, we caught up with willie brown and he said nothing about that story is true. >> no, are you kidding me? i wouldn't ride with him in fears that something might happen. >> trump did take a helicopter ride in 2018 with a different brown. the former california governor, jerry brown. they traveled to butte county to see the destruction from the campfire, but there's no

record at all of an emergency landing. we asked willie brown if trump could have mixed him up with the former governor. he wasn't convinced. >> i don't think i'm confused. i think trump made the whole story up. if you're in to a fictional write-in and speaking, then you do make stories up. >> well this evening, the new york tames pub lushed this story saying trump is insisting he has the records for the helicopter trip and is threatening to sue the paper for reporting otherwise. the article is written by maggie haberman and went on to say trump made an angry phone call to a times reporter earlier today and claimed the helicopter landed in the field. the report said trump shouted he was probably going to sue over that times article. the reporter then asked trump to produce the flight records, but the times reported he responded in a mocking way. "repeating the request in a sing song voice." well yesterday jerry brown actually posted a story on x about the whole debacle

and simply wrote wow. trump talked about willie brown in the first place because a reporter asked him about his relationship with vice president kamala harris. and she dated the san francisco mayor from 1994 to 1995. in the meantime harris rallied in the battleground state of arizona today with minnesota governor tim walz. on the next campaign stop, she's coming home. she is set to arrive in the bay area tomorrow and fundraise at san francisco swanky fairmont hotel on sunday. tickets apparently start at $3,000 and go all the way up to half a million dollars. new this weekend, thousands of music lovers are making a pilgrimage to golden gate park for the outside lands music festival. tonight we had some boots on the ground. our producer took these videos while exploring the festival tonight and caught the headlining act. ♪ [ music ] ♪

the rock group, the killers, played plenty of fan favorites tonight. the group debuted the first new single of the year, bright lines. last year the festival had some hiccups with the encloused side. and once again boots on the ground took this video of the tent before it was shut down several times after some attendees reported that the wooden dance floor had collapsed. this time they made some changes. all right, so this is the stage. it's wide open this year. when people return tomorrow, sabrina carpenter is set to headline. on sunday it will be simpson and post malone. all right, so suching gears, the governor gavin newsom is getting pushback from the bay area on doubling down on an order to crack down on

homeless encampments. threatening to withhold funding from cities and counties that don't apply. da lin spoke to advocates who say he could put lives at risk. >> sleeping in a car is demoralizing. >> reporter: this man says for the last two months his car has been his home. >> it is like going back to prison all over again because my car, it is the same size as my jail cell. >> reporter: he spent 18 years in prison for a robbery. now that he's out, he's says many landlords refuse to give him a chance. >> as someone who is an ex-felon, i can't get a job to afford that ride. lyft told me i couldn't be a driver because of my felonies. >> reporter: raymond now works for the non-profit silicon valley. but still can't afford an apartment yet. he joined other south bay advocates in san jose on friday to oppose governor newsom's policy to get rid of encampments across

the state. they say shuffling people around without giving them places to go will only lead to more homeless encampments. they're demanding more affordable housing, not more sweeps. >> sweeps equals mass incarceration. >> i appreciate and support the governor's push for accountability. >> reporter: matt mahan says they are building affordable housing as a long-term solution. in the meantime they're offering shelter and transitional housing to get the homeless off the streets. >> a part of accountability is measuring performance and then allocating dollars where they are having an impact, so i fully support the idea of shifting dollars to where impact is being had. we cannot have a race to the bottom in which some cities are not doing anything and simply pushing homeless folks into other jurisdictions. that isn't fair, it isn't sustainable. >> reporter: a.j. professional detailing is located next to columbus park and the large encampment. the co-owner tom jones says all signs should work together, not against each other when it comes to fixing

this complex issue. >> we're in the same boat. if you're drilling the hole, you're drilling the hole. >> reporter: someone broke a window at his best about six months ago. he's forced to increase security. >> we have had the security area with razor wire and cameras everywhere just in case. >> reporter: he believes affordable housing will be good for the unhoused and those who work and live near the encampments. they agree saying no one wants to live out here with better options. >> within five years i hope to open my own house. >> reporter: urging voters to pass regional measures. to create thousands of affordable units. tonight the owners of a popular san francisco ice cream store say thieves broke in and tried to make a way with their safe, but only managed to leave with a bag of cookies. they share this picture of their boarded up storefront. the owners posted that five men broke in, broke their front windows early this morning and apparently tried to steal the safe, but it was bolted down to

the cement floor. and not before stealing some cookies. another restaurant in san francisco announced it's going to be closing their doors. but two sisters, both employees of that restaurant say they are determined to keep this business open. andrea nakano shows us how they're making their dreams come true. >> reporter: this is beloved cafe in the heart of the mission that opened seven years ago when jennifer was one of the first employees hired. >> one day i was just walking by and i saw the sign. like i decided to knock on the door and they made me open the door. i was like i'm looking for some jobs. >> reporter: six months later, her sister joined the beloved family. >> this is our second house. we are five days a week or six days a week, you know? it is a lot for us. and thanks to this

job, we can support family. >> reporter: just two weeks ago they heard the devastating news that the owner was going to close this vegan cafe. >> and they were saying that business has been really slow. even though they survived the pandemic, they were like now it is so unstable. everywhere, you know, in the city, it is just like so slow for business. >> reporter: the owner though put an offer on the table. for jennifer and anna to take over. to transfer the lease into their names and to buy the rights to the business name and all of their recipes. >> i mean putting all their money together, yeah, you know, we asked members, my family, like my auntie and my mom and everybody trying to help us out. >> reporter: the community members are also stepping up with donations online and in person to help the sisters. andy nelson is one of the many loyal customers. >> there is nothing like san francisco. and there really

breaking she was one of the first employees before retiring last year. her husband announced her death tonight saying she died after a two-year long battle of lung cancer. she leaves behind five children. all right, so the ceo of alphabet posted this tribute to her online writing that he was unbelievable saddened to lose his dear friend and this hard to imagine a work without him. 61 people dead after a plane fell from the sky over brazil. the country's government is declaring three days of mourning after that crash. capturing the plane going down in that area of san palo in the air for 60 minutes before it

started falling, dropping about 17,000 feet in just one minute. and it crashed just feet from home and somehow nobody on the ground was served right now and unclear what caused that plane to crash. and they appeared to have stalled in 1994 killing 68 people. and it was a bit smoky across the bay area and that advisory has been extended into saturday. we also had a windy chilly foggy day in san francisco as about 60,000 people came in. >> yes, you're right. if you look at the window behind us, it's foggy right now. you can barely see it from the financial district. and the fog will be a factor. air quality progressively less of a factor. let's step over and take a look at the air quality map,

which is an improvement for the east bay east of the oakland hills. kind of the deterioration for the rest. and as we head through the weekend with that forecast as we would head through early next week. and then it should be good across the board by sunday, monday, tuesday, and the stronger breeze, kind of refreshing that air. also pushing that fog further and further inland and that is also going to result in cooler temperatures for the second half of the weekend. still warmer than normal, but that should kind of reverse as we hit the second half of the day on sunday. you can barely see the stories as the temperature downtown is 55. same temperature in santa rosa. otherwise the low 60s. those numbers will continue to retreat as the fog continues to spread further and further across the bay. reduced visibilities, pretty much everywhere or at least low cloud cover for inland parts of

the bay area where that fog will back up by late morning, retreating to the coast by midday. but along the coast, i don't think you'll see the sunshine breaking through. and not just tomorrow, but the entire weekend. really the entire seven-day forecast. let's take a look at temperatures. we will bring up the floor map here and talk about low temperatures tomorrow morning, which will be pretty close to what's normal. i've actually loaded up the wrong thing here on my ipad. let me load up the correct thing as i still have that show on here. and let's take a look at the air temperature for tomorrow and it is worth the wait, right? it's free air-conditioning. that's worth the weight. right around 60 degrees for morgan hill. mostly 50s by early tomorrow morning across the entire bay area. just the warmest locations to the east into the delta in the low 60s. temperatures in the north bay will be in the cool spots dipping down by early tomorrow. the north bay valley is always efficient in collecting some of the cooler air. temperatures warm up in

the low 90s. mostly 80s for the north bay. 60s and 70s in san francisco. you go farther to the east, it is still going to be warmer than normal. low to mid-90s. then you get into the santa clara valley. into the 90s for morgan hill. which for the middle of august is not bad at all. temperatures will back down slightly below average as we would hit the second half of the weekend, continuing into early next week. for the bay area and most of california, most of the west coast, the 8 to 14-day outlook center showing a good chance of cooler than normal temperatures through the back half of august. this will last for a decent amount of time. take a look at your seven-day forecast. kind of averaging out of temperatures in the middle portions of 80s. warming up a little bit, but only what's normal by tuesday and the rest

of next week. temperatures will make it up to the 60s and monday. and the beginning of next week and then back to normal with that sunshine around the bay with the fog very reluctant to leave the coast. gray skies overhead with the foreseeable future and temperatures don't warm up. only in the lower half of the 60s. coming up in sports. 49ers, titans, the pre-season opener is less than 24 hours away. two niners in
