news application. san francisco police are investigating a string of commercial burglaries in the bernal heights neighborhood. the latest what happened yesterday morning. >> surveillance footage shows thieves breaking into the popular mitchell's ice cream printer on san jose avenue near 29th street. several businesses in the area are wondering if the recent break-ins are connected. >> reporter: is this owners say there have been at least four break-ins or attempted bacons within a few weeks. all of those locations, within a block. they worry if nothing is done, the thieves will return again. >> welcome to mitchells. >> reporter: for 71 years, the family owned mitchell's ice cream has served up a lot of sweet memories and happiness. >> perfect amount of milk, not too sugary, not too frothy. >> my top flavors would be the thin mints. mango and i forgot to mention grasshopper pie. >> we came all the way in from

brentwood. i used to live on tiffany street. for your customers come from all over the bay just for the ice cream at this local institution. >>-coming to mitchells since i was a little boy, i think since i was four years old. >> reporter: what happened on friday morning before 3:00 left a bitter taste for the shop and its customers. >> we had a big chain and they tried to cut it but it was too tough to cut. they gave up. the bolt cutter, they used that to break through the big glass window. for the manager and mitchells says the thieves came into cars, five masked the burglars entered the store despite the loud alarm. >> no fear. they are russian but no fear. that is the sad part. >> reporter: they tried to take the safe that was bolted to the ground without success and left. >> the left with nothing except a bag of cookies. >> reporter: co-owner linda mitchell says it will cost thousands of dollars to replace the large broken window.

>> now we have to put a gate across the front at night and i'm not looking forward to that. it will not look very good. i don't want to go through this again. >> reporter: urchins say thieves have been targeting small businesses in bernal heights, have publicly for mitchells. a group of thieves broke into rockwall at 3:00 in the morning two weeks ago. >> they took received our cash register, a computer. >> reporter: co-owner kevin kline says thieves ransacked their office. he is still emotional talking about the violation. >> it's embarrassing and it is sad that other people are feeling this way. >> reporter: the owner of cafe 78 system one broken window to try to get in last week but their security system stop the burglary from entering. neighbors say thieves also hit a dispensary across the street. >> hopefully they catch these folks so that we can have a little bit more peace, you know? >> reporter: more than agrees, says they are trying to survive. >> it's a small business. to be targeted, you know him, it

just hurts. for at least one driver saw the ice cream store breaking. san francisco police are asking witnesses to come forward. so far, no one has been arrested in any of the recent bacons here. in other news tonight, coyote attacks on small animals and even humans are becoming more and more common in the bay area. >> a woman in san francisco recently saw her own dog attacked. >> good girl. >> reporter: it is rare that bow bow is left off police but her owner, lauren, who didn't want to be filmed, that would be okay this one time at the presidio tunnel tops. >> there are dogs there that

aren't unleashed and i thought i would give her a few minutes to run a little bit. >> reporter: bow bow is a special treat ended in a nightmare. through the bushes, a coyote was watching the small dog. as soon as her lease was removed, lauren said it launched into attack mode. >> the coyote had my dog in its mouth and, luckily, somehow, i thought she was dead because she was just limp but the next thing i know, she escaped and she is running for her life. >> reporter: like would be on bow bow's side. as she ran away from the coyote, she passed a coffee shop where someone was watching. >> out of the corner of the eye, i see this little dog running into the coyote chasing after it. >> reporter: adam hammond was taking a coffee break in the chase passed in front of him. he said seeing dog brought back memories of a pet he recently lost and the decision to intervene was a no-brainer. >> chasing after it. the coyote lunches at the dog and it gets this dog in a corner right by the coffee shop. i kick the coyote and it backs off and then i quickly scooped up the dog and then i kick at the coyote again and it backs off entranceway. >> reporter: bow bow story is

one more added to a series of coyote attacks in the bay area. earlier this month, a pomeranian was killed. in july, a five-year-old girl. in the past, the department of wildlife and fisheries told news outlets of the attacks are growing more frequent because approved and increased human contact. we reached out for an interview but the agency did not respond in time for this broadcast. >> she has been really good. she is not afraid. >> reporter: bow bow is currently safe. her only injury is a wound on her side. lauren asked everyone be more cautious when walking their dogs. there might not be a good samaritan to save it. in sports, the 49ers officially began their 2024 campaign today in nashville, where they took on the tennessee titans in their first preseason game. >> met lately is out there tonight with the highlights. >> reporter: hello from nashville. after a long wait the summer, the 49ers finally took the field in their preseason opener against the tennessee titans. it was a nice relaxed, deserved off day for the starters, which meant all

over there. we will talk later. the bay area has a lot of dynamic weather that we have to get to first because there's quite a lot to talk about as we step out over the next coming days. a big cooldown is on the way. let's take a look back at how gorgeous it was. a little bit of a fall get flowing through in san francisco. the fog lifted in the evening, the sun began to set and gorgeous colors in the sky. the gorgeous colors led to, unfortunately, while the fire or smoke in the air. that is the reason we saw those beautiful colors. across the bay area, from mount diablo to like martin, san jose, san francisco, look at how fiery it was out there. those fiery colors were absolutely gorgeous but, again, it was only brought to us by the wildfire smoke. the wildfire smoke from california wildfires up across the northern parts of the state. that is something we will continue to keep our eyes on. let's take a look at that right now. take this map down really quickly, potentially

afternoon. it will not create any crazy air-quality alerts. there is that advisory in effect through tomorrow. temperatures tomorrow afternoon will be a couple degrees below average. we will be in the mid 60s in san francisco, upper 60s in the bay area communities, mid to upper 80s further inland. compared to normal, a couple degrees below average. we will take it as we step out over the next couple of days. if you plan on heading to the last day of outside lands, jealous. you want to grab a jacket with temperatures in the upper 50s, low 60s in the afternoon. an area of low pressure will begin to impact the area starting tomorrow. that would begin the first day of a cooldown that is only going to persist into the early part of next week, picking up the winds as well. the areas of red and orange along the coastal communities. that will be the windy conditions we are expecting over the next couple of days. that will be something to keep our eyes on, a chance for a little more wind. the onshore flow is the most important part about it. onshore flow keeps temperatures cooler. look at the highs by tomorrow afternoon. today, they were in the 90s. tomorrow, they would be in the 80s across inland communities. further south, we sit in the lower 80s and then across the coastal communities, closer to the bay, we will be in the 60s and 70s. it depends on where you are how much of this heat you will be seeing diane down over the next couple of days. the seven-day forecast for the inland communities looks really, really nice. we will take the 80s versus the 90s and triple digits that we saw. that was
