president harris getting ready to take center stage at the democratic national convention, we have a preview. the search for a father who jumped into the american river to save his son. live from the cbs studios on this sunday night i'm brian hackney, i'm andrea nakano. playing the final bay bridge series. 32,000 plus in the house and we picked the game up in the top of the 4th. no score, mark, popped up, infielders could not see it. he makes a running catch, then gets tyler fritzgerald at first for the deep. they are scoreless in the 6th inning. squaring up on the pitch. drives the ball out to the right. a two-out single. scores for the game's first run. the a's lead did not last long. leading off the seventh with a

448 foot blast. that is the only run he gave up in 7 innings of work. that run ties the game. oakland loaded the basis in the bottom of the inning but snell got placks shoeman for the 10th strikeout of the day. and then battled back and got cameron to ground out from the inning. snell, dealing again. showing a bit of emotion there as he steps off of the mound. it went to extras. ripped a 2shot to center and gave san francisco a 3-run lead and next batter, smashing the 13th homer of the year. the giants up 4-1. bottom 10th. a's down, loading the bases with nobody out. walker shuts door. he gets jj looking. chasing for the second out and, on three pitches to end it. san francisco wins it 4-2, the team split the four games there season in the final year of the

bay bridge series. >> the last bay area rivalry in professional sports gone for good. we spoke to sports fans facing the loss of oakland's last professional sports team. >> reporter: with the bay bridge series officially over and the a's playing out their final days in oakland bay area sports fans are going through a wave of emotions if it is at sports bars. and the bay area. . >> there is nothing like baseball. the heartbreak steve kent feels when the finale of the bay bridge series is just a warm up for what is to come. >> i will be a basket case on

the 26th of next month. >> a's fans have until then before their team leaves oakland for good. giving fans like steve and his wife, sherry, just weeks to remember decades of memories >> bringing my middle daughter to the bleachers when she was 6 days old. she is 42 now. >> i was pregnant out here with that same daughter and he was on crutches and we still came to the game. >> heartbreaking, heartbreaking. i don't know why they would do that to the fans. >> reporter: buck is an oakland sports fan. flying a flag with all of the teams he loves that all decided to leave the town he loves. his fandom is thanks to the people he loves too, >> giants fan there, used to take me on the b.a.r.t when i was a little boy. >> i support them both, really. whoever won one, because, there are good players on the a's, good players on the giants.

>> if you supported both you would wear that hat right there >> i tried looking for that hat. actually. >> does not feel right, yet. has not hit home. >> across oakland those mixed emotions can be felt at the athletic club. chris has been living in oakland his entire life. >> i am not a huge raider fan. i would like to be involved in the things that go around in oakland or losing the a's, that sucks, losing the warriors, a big hit. >> he watched three major sports teams leave oakland and along the way the 9ers fan, born and raised in adopted his dog named raider. >> i like to tease raider fans and say, they are always moving, and, so i was able to give him a stable home. >> these i guess we get to see them, the roots should be cool, too. but the draw is major sports teams and major, you know, sporting events and it does not look like we have much of that moving forward. >> the a's final home game at

the oakland coliseum will be september 26th if it is here in oakland or across the bay area fans will be tuning in as the a's facially leave the town. >> the a's will now be the third and final professional sports team to leave oakland. the warriors left in 2019, raiders gone the following year, as for the a's, leaving for sacramento next season. they will wind up in vegas by 2028. as for the future of the coliseum. the a's sold their half for $125 million to the african american sports entertainment group. this was shortly after the city of oakland sold its half for $105 million. that money will be used to help with the city's ongoing budget crisis. the term bay bridge series, by the way, first used during the 1989 world series. it was the first time the a's and giants ever met on the field. abc was broadcasting game 3 of

to clawson, she says this moment is fortunate her to see somebody that looks like her in the white house. i will introduce you to an advocate and organizers for the south asian community who says it is like a coming out party for her community. especially on the political stage. along with talking to all of the california delegates from the bay area we will cover all of big speeches from president biden, on monday, former president barack obama on tuesday, on wednesday former president bill clinton along with tim walz accepting his nomination to run as vice president along with kamala harris on that ticket. of course, the big night, thursday night when kamala harris officially accepts the nominee for the democratic party. >> and while there is excitement in chicago. in oakland protesters sent a message to vice president kamala harris on the eve of the convention. >> i think that the democrats are not going to be able to count on my vote unless vice

president harris does more than just talk about ending arms to israel but stop sending arms. >> i understand she is part of the same presidential cabinet that has not exactly helped gaza but i think that this is the time to give her a chance. this is our window to reach out to her and to be heard. >> and while the democrats are in chicago former president trump and his runningmate, j.d. vance will be campaigning in battleground states. their first event will be in pennsylvania tomorrow. on tuesday, the former president will speak in michigan, vance will make a stop in wisconsin and coming up after the break. a father missing on the american river after diving into the water to save his own son, that story coming up. the bay area man who says he is running half marathon for those held in captivity.

firefighters pulled out a pan trapped in a sewer pipe. it happened early this morning. firefighters used a rope system and a rescue basket to get him out. the fire department says the man did not know how he got there, he is being treated for his injuries. and now to placer county and the search for a missing father. he jumped into the american river to save his 5-year-old son who was struggling in the water. now, the child was saved by yet another person but the father never resurfaced. the sheriff's office says it happened near the no-hands bridge. >> reporter: a dive team suiting up and searching the depth of the american river. a family trip taking a tragic turn. >> from then we received the first two victims reported were a father and child. >> reporter: lauren, the

state's park superintendent said at said at 11:50 a.m. we got the report. >> one victim pulled from the water by a good samaritan. >> reporter: a child was pulled out by the good samaritan. the dive team searching the water from no hands bridge to china bar >> there are areas on this river that i will not swim in. too fast, not many places to get out. >> reporter: ryan frequents several rivers in the area and says unfortunately this is a story he has heard one too many times. >> the problem i see people don't know how to swim out of the water they swim against the current. >> reporter: many people he has seen out at the river under estimate how powerful the current can actually be. >> some people get in rivers like this and don't know how to swim. that is dangerous. >> reporter: shoemaker saying it serves as a terrifying

gauge it reaches passed sunrise tomorrow. it reaches the inland extent. if you are only getting that much marine layer typically. you are going to wake up with clear skies here in the santa clara valley. let's swing the camera around. your numbers out there tomorrow if i put in the day time highs over there. your numbers are going to climb. so, you are in the lower 80s today. you are going up to the middle 80s tomorrow. a subtle warm up tomorrow. let's see if we can get the north bay numbers in. the temperatures climb just a little bit for the day time high. these are pretty much average. let me remove the fog so you can see clearly what you will be doing clearly under that. tuesday, up 5 or 6 degrees from this. tuesday it will be kind of a brief spike in temperatures until we get to the next change of weather. let's get to the big monitor. let's take a look at the storm

sitting off of the pacific northwest. that is part of the system that cooled us down. when you look at it on the water vapor that is huge. unusual area of low pressure off of the coast. as weird as this is, put the in future cast, there is the one we had for the weekend. loitering out there right now. that one leaves, look at what spills out of the gulf of alaska as we go to the end of this week. going ahead to friday, there is another one here. does not look exactly the same. it is probably not going to playout the same way. in terms of what we have coming our way, spilling out. watching the temperature on here, here is another cool pool of air this one for sure. high degree of confidence in the forecast, after that spike, let's go to the seven-day, after this spike where we see the temperatures going up on tuesday, right after that, that pool of cool air is going to go back in and the temperatures will go back down again. on the one hand, we

will not deal with much heat at all really this week. the question is, will we see anymore light rain back here? so, when you look at thursday, friday, you see the temperatures taking a dip. we are looking at the inland microclimate. all of the clouds, not so much the marine layer as it is for that system to come in with a few showers, the likely place, the north bay, not a lot. if is low odds but it is interesting, here we are, middle to late august. we are certainly getting another area of low pressure. certainly getting cooler than average this time of the year. high degree of confidence for that. what is interesting is what we have coming our way in terms of a very small chance that we night get a little bit of rain out of it by the time we get there. what did you say, 8/100th of an inch of rain. >> he was out there with his measuring cup. >> yes. serious topic. grant clark loves his job so much that for it he is willing to do something he hates. >> i always hate running. i hated running growing up. i started it 10 months ago to try it out, do something new and push myself a little bit. >> the 24-year-old works for an organization based in the pay area called special operations finding kids, hires private investigators to find and retrieve children being trafficked for sexual exploitation. he committed to running half marathon each month for the rest of the year. he is adding an extra challenge. he does it with his hands tied together, symbolic of the kids being held captive. >> it is a life sentence for these children going through this trauma because it sticks with them forever. for me to run with my hands tied it is really a small challenge compared to what they have to

do throughout their life. >> reporter: on this day it was an annual giant race beginning and ends at oracle park with his friend acting as a pace buddy. this is his sixth run, including miami, los angeles and san diego. >> this has taken me down a road i never thought i would be on. and, yeah, it is surreal having my family supporting me and run with me. i am blessed. >> reporter: they are concern about the psychological burden their son may be carrying combating trafficking. >> as a father clearly i am proud about it. it worries me a little bit, too. like i said, an emotional issue. i can not imagine the toll it takes when you see stories constantly and now your son is involved in these stories and trying to help out in a good way but
