chief and mastermind yahya sinwar wants a deal that guarantees his safety and life. cbs' jarred hill is following that, the latest developments on that. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. so here's what we know right now -- negotiators are back at the table today and tomorrow in egypt to work out a proposal before officially submitting that to hamas. this morning we're learning more about a major sticking point that's holding up the cease-fire hostage deal. in gaza city people running for cover as the israeli military struck a school and nearby home wednesday killing at least three people. at least 15 others injured, according to gaza's civil emergency service. further south near khan younis, more than 100,000 people once again being pushed out. >> people are afraid. they're being displaced for the second, third, fourth, up to ten times, looking for somewhere safe. there's nowhere safe in gaza. >> reporter: wednesday the white house says president biden and vice president harris spoke to

israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu about the urgency of bringing the cease-fire and hostage deal to a close. but hope appears to be dwindling. key mediator egypt says hamas is wary of whether israel will actually remove its troops from gaza after the first phase of the proposal goes into effect, requiring hamas to release the most vulnerable civilian hostages. at the democratic national convention -- >> hersh, if you can hear us, we love you. stay strong. survive. >> reporter: the parents of one of those hostages, 23-year-old hersh goldberg-polin pled for an end to the war. >> letting the prisoners come home is not a political issue. >> reporter: outside pro-palestinians marched with a message for democrats. >> tell the dnc not in our name.

moscow. but vladimir putin's forces also have their hands full as ukrainian troops try to push for into russia. cbs' ian lee spoke it a -- spoke to a ukrainian military commander about the operation. >> reporter: ukrainian forces poured over russia's border 16 days ago, helping to lead the charge was commander vitaly, whose identity we were asking to conceal. what is the mood like that they're finally taking the fight into russia? >> translator: first of all, it gave help. it raised the morale of personnel. >> reporter: he says american mine-clearing equipment proved critical in the opening hours of the incursion. but as the battle progressed, ukrainian drones became their greatest asset. the eyes in the sky protecting his troops and correcting artillery. another key factor -- u.s.-led training of ukrainian forces. has your nato training helped with this kind of operation ? >> translator: yes, it opened

outside his home. he had written articles critical of telles and his conduct. he says he was framed. the "associated press" says police in guatemala arrested seven after 533 asphyxiated in 2022. they're accused of smuggling them from mexico and central america. they died after being abandoned in a locked tractor-trailer in scorching summer heat without water or air continuing. they were discovered when the trailer was opened in san antonio. the "detroit free press" says a 15-year-old girl is suing the judge who detained her after she fell asleep in his courtroom. eva goodman was in the courtroom for a field trip when judge kennethking noticed her falling asleep. he ordered her be handcuffed, changed in jail clothes, and held for custody more two hours. the two say he violated the child's several rights.

higher wednesday as minutes from the federal reserve's latest meeting signals a likely september rate cut. the dow gained 55 points. the nasdaq was up 102, and the s&p 500 gaining 23 points. new data from the labor department shows the u.s. added 818,000 fewer jobs from april, 2023, through march of this year than were originally reported. analysts say it is evidence the job market has been steadily slowing, and renews calls for the federal reserve to begin cutting interest rates. target is reporting a spike in sales. the minneapolis retailer says it saw sales rise for the first time in a year. transactions were up in all six main categories including fashion and home goods. it comes after the retailer began offering summer grocery deals for cash-strapped customers. and if you're a fan of a certain fall flavored drink, starbucks is rolling out its pumpkin spice latte earlier than ever this year.
