as harris becomes the first african american woman and only the second woman ever to become a major party's presidential nominee. meantime on the republican side of the presidential race, former president donald trump held his own campaign event today. he spoke in arizona in front of a section of border wall. he blasted the biden administration's record on immigration and promised a tougher border enforcement policy. trump held four campaign events this week in battleground events. stern grove continues this weekend with the pop group on saturday, we caught up with the band ahead of their performance [singing] >> reporter: grammy nominated group is making their way back to the bay this week at stern grove. the electric duo and real life couple say there is

>devin>welcome . welcome back, i'm devin fehley. these are your prime time stories at the half-hour. looking into theric of battery powered vehicles, after a fiery crash involving a cybertruck the truck collided on monday trees on the side of i-80 in placer county. the crash caused the vehicle's batteries to catch fire. releasing toxic fumes. firecrews had to wait for the fire to burn itself out before cleaning it up. google agreed to a deal with news rooms across california. the agreement ends proposed legislation that would of forced tech companies to pay news organization for distributing their content. google will pay $250 million over five years and the majority of the money will fund news rooms. journalists and the

bill's authors oppose it saying it falls short of properly regulating tech monoply. opolies. . taking a live look out at san jose, let's get a check of our first alert forecast with meteorologist darren peck. interesting looking bank of clouds sitting above the south bay, devin, we are going into two days of pretty unique weather. it is going to look and feel a lot like last week. remember how we ended last week? a weird deck of clouds came and in some of us got rain, the next few days will look and feel that way. tomorrow morning when the marine layer comes in, it will get help. it is not just marine layer coming in that we will

have tomorrow. the marine layer will get beefed up and thick enough that it is going to miss out again along the coast. this is the first way we will get light rain. tomorrow morning, i got to get rid of the clouds so you can see the rainfall. notice the pattern, san francisco might get it. this is like mist that adds over time. that is the morning, getting into the afternoon, more breaks of blue sky. it will be onagain, off again clouds and, 15 degrees cooler than normal for this time of the year. look at the day time highs for the inland east bay. lower to middle 70s. so, it will be cooler, a bit damp in the morning, then, tomorrow night into saturday a better organized chance for rain will move through. when we get back together again in the complete forecast we will look at that. spotlight how it will be a little different, forecast on that coming up

. tonight, the final night of the democratic national convention, while the speech from kamala harris was the highlight, a 6th grader from oakland took it. i pledge allegiance to the flag for the united states of america. >> nailed it. maybe not with 6th graders but we hear a lot about how the youth vote could make a big difference in east election. a nonprofit is trying to mobilize young voters without much experience with the democratic process and may even be the first in their families to vote. amanda harry

has more on this campaign. >> the no decision about us without us campaign aims to let young people know that their voices matter. they are filling up this room with young potential voters to let them know their one vote can make a big difference. >> >> they tell us they don't feel like we are being heard. >> that is why a youth program coordinator decided to launch this campaign. trying to encourage young voters, especially from under represented and vulnerable communities to head to the ballot box. >> i think just having that power to say for the next four years i get too choose what this gets to look like, i have a say. >> she believes it is important for young people to realize that >> in november of 2022, less than 10% of voters ages 18-24 voted in santa clara county. she started digging to find out

why. >> we came to the conclusion that a lot of these youth grow up with parents who can not vote. and, families that have not been voting for generations, they are not educated on the subject. >> reporter: she will be turning 22 later this month, voting did not come up in her household. some of her loved ones couldn't vote. which gave her even more reason to head to the polls when she turned 18 just before the 2020 election. >> my voice and my vote spoke for a lot of my loved ones. >> reporter: she tries to explain to the young people that she works with that their vote can be for more than just themselveses >> something amazing and celebrate, we have so many youth that will be the first to vote in their family. >> reporter: she works with younger kids that can not vote yet. >> ages 12-18 can feel under represented. that is what we want to do uplift them, put them in the front and making sure they know their voice matters. >> reporter: they can preregister to vote in the

future and campaign for candidates they support and want to see in office. she says no matter what age you are, you can still have influence. >> if you can't vote, educate those around you to vote for you, to use their vote as your voice. >> reporter: the campaign will involve young people trying to get other people their age to vote as well. they will be using social media to do that. organizers at the dnc are highlighting the importance of young voters in a new and unique way, liz? >> reporter: for the first time in history the democratic national convention has opened its doors to social media influencers. many of them, gen z. a reproductive rights activist and content creator addressed the convention on monday, the arizona native says the economy is top of mind for young voters planning to cast their ballots in november. snow

young people we know do not need to be policy experts to know there is a difference between getting by and getting ahead and young people deserve a shot at getting ahead. not just the ones who started out at the top. young people are thinking about how do i move out of my parent's house? how do i catch up after losing years of my life, professional life, personal life to a pandemic.. meanwhile, supporters of the republican nominee, donald trump were out in full force in foster city. they organized a boat parade supporting the former president's campaign. many were waving american flags and trump 2024 flags. they say they are aware that they are in the minority in the bay area. >> most here democratically inclined and it would be good to see a couple, i mean, the people who are support trump. >> yes. >> we are out numbered as she said. majority of population is democrats >> supporters that we talk to

told us they are concerned about the southern border and keeping pro-life restrictions in place. as democratic leaders addressed the division that defines our politics during the dnc this is an effort to bridge the divide that has been underway long before this moment and this week. showing the power of personal connections to heal and why we may soon need more of it than ever. parents could get red and yellow cards at high school sporting events. the body that oversees the games are cracking down on spectators that are rude and unruly, as they should. we saw how this rule from a local chapter of the california inner scholastic federation is being used >> the section starting the new sports year with a new policy. fans attending local high school sports games can get a yellow and red card if they are not acting right. yellow is a warning, red, ejection. >> this will be a way instead of getting into an argument, because emotions are high and fans are upset. for them to kind of calmly address it. >> the assistant commissioner for it. the office spearheads the committee along with a dozen coaches. bringing forward the idea of a nonverbal way to let parents and fans know they are off sides. >> a simple warning that the

rest of the crowd might see. we don't need to actually escort in that. >> and maybe it is an education piece for them no20,000 of the yellow and red cards went out to every school in the section but for 35 who have not gotten them yet. this picking off a 45 spectator ejections last school year and 40 throughout the entire area throughout the year before that. >> the passion is great, intensity is great. gear that towards cheering for your kids and the positive things your kid is doing not against the other school or officials. >> it could be implemented at any school game, they say the cards could kickoff at lodi's big games this year >> sends a strong message for the community and the fans and parents to understand this is really about the student athlete. >> shifting focus back to the players is the point or two. >> you can always improve sportsmanship. it is just another avenue. as you would hope and expect officials say those

look here, is is rain. three hours, rain in the pacific northwest. you don't see what is driving this just yet. even if we visualize it you miss it. you can not. it takes everything in the atmosphere in account. you can see a dope area of tightly wound counterclockwise spin off of the coast. that is early. particularly strong for august this time of the year. and wrapped up in the middle of that is a lot of cold air. it is coming down directly from the gulf of alaska. this is the first part of this. day time high tomorrow. 15 degrees below average. you will be in the lower to middle 70s. that is probably the biggest impact that everybody will certainly feel. but then, the rain side of this. there is a chance that some of us get a little more rain over the next few days. we looked at tomorrow's marine layer mist. that is one part of it. impressive part from the

rain standpoint is all of that. look at it. it is very active. redwood coast, eureka, crescent city, going to get a lot of rain. good news because there have been fires and this will help. what we care about is closer to home and any rain we might see. two chances for this. watch what happens tomorrow, isolated cells show up. that is before sunrise. takeaway is tomorrow morning most of us will not get rained on. just mist along the coast. this could be more noticeable. most of us do not get it. if you do, at least now you will be prepared. that is what it was. one cell, not raining all day. then, another one comes through late tomorrow night into saturday morning and that one might be a little more likely to bring rain to like sonoma county. not a lot. it comes through in the morning and then by the time we get

into the afternoon that is saturday. most of saturday will be pretty. it will clear out in a hurry. then, the temperatures will rebound. we need to talk about the big temperature swing that devin was talking about. we will say good-bye to the globe. i will bring in the seven-day forecast. the pattern on here, it looks a little like whiplash. here is the cool down we just talked about. but then you start to gradually start warming up and start taking big steps up back here. now we are back to 100. start the seven-day in the middle 70s inland and four to five days later back to 100. not a heatwave, not worried about excessive heat warnings, not using heatwave messaging on that. you have gotten acclimated to it. what you have not, is going from the middle 70 degree day to 100 degree day in like three days. that is what is coming this week. >> we got a couple concerts this weekend. two days of stern
