franciscans. large groups are participating in loud side shows and the more exciting it became to peel working in the restaurant and the other diners, and they started to smell like burnt rubber. he even says his friends wife was hit by one of them. >> and he says his wife was driving in the car with two children in the car and one collided in the back, smashing the back window. >> reporter: it is not just dirt bikes, but back in june, the car was torched and crowds set off fireworks as a part of the embarcadero. now a new crackdown could bring stiffer penalties for both cars and motorbikes involved in the

and for a final farewell. he is the department's first community service officer to be killed in the line of duty. and was killed on august 3 at 34 years old on traffic control when he hit and killed them. it was a sign of bravery and strength. working for about two years, his dream to protect and serve and that he plans to become a sworn officer of the police department. >> his legacy is one of courage, compassion, and unyielding desire to make the world a better place for all of us. and honoring him

with kids back in school, many teens are trying to get their driver's licenses, but federal data shows the teens are far less interested in getting their licenses than previous generations. kevin ko reports to show us why california might not be following the national trend. >> reporter: shane is 15 1/2

years old and is training to get his driver's license in a different way. >> why the anxiety is not stopping quick enough, like going into the intersection maybe. i'm kind of scared about that. >> reporter: with the help of jason zimmerman at green light simulation in danville. he gets the experience without the risk. >> the anxiety and the nervousness of getting the driver's license. this takes a lot out of the equation. you can imagine, right? if you don't know what you're doing and they put you in that car, that's nerve-racking. >> reporter: and those nerves, they might be why fewer teens are getting their licenses nationwide. according to the federal highway administration, the number of 16 to 19 year olds with driver's licenses, they fell from 64% to below 40% from 1995 to 2021. >> it depends on each child and their maturity, making sure they're safe drivers and experienced. >> reporter: but for shane's mom and others who have been to

the bay area dmv recently, it's probably hard to tell there may be fewer teens with lines still stretching out the door. california's department of motor vehicles tells cbs news bay area it does not have data on how many teens are or are not applying for driver's license. but says the demand is still high. the average wait time at the dmv without the appointment is nearly double what it was last september. 75% higher with an appointment. the dmv says they see a rise in teen applicants during the summer months. including a processing center in san jose. >> the theory that's floating out there about kids not wanting their license. that doesn't seem to be holding up at least in our experience, right? kids want their license,

back together and spread across the bay area throughout the rest of tonight. let's track that fog to reestablish themselves and then they will start to push across the baby early tomorrow morning. in those inland valleys, they will not last that long. and slows down the warm up to help get our temperatures back up to where they should be this time of the year. and everybody within a degree or two that's normal. and very reasonable with some of the hottest spots, morgan hill at 91 degrees, tied for the hot location around 91 as well near 90 degrees in fairfield. you'll be in the lower half of the 80s. the upper 60s, the low 70s for oakland. those numbers are below average. temperatures for most of the north bay is getting up into the low to

mid-80s by tomorrow afternoon. and along the coast at the bay, your temperatures will top out in the 60s. let's talk about next week when temperatures warm up, how we valuate heat stress and heat illness. that looks like the peak with all that orange that will indicate the moderate heat risk. inland in the east bay and potentially parts of the bay where we would bring in the potential getting it issued from the national weather service and as we head through next week. the long range outlook will point to being a fairly toasty month. and showing a significant chance that will take us halfway through the month where they will shift the potential weather to the east in a strong signal towards those above

the oakland coliseum is closer to new owners. the first to report that they have finalized the agreement to sell their share of the coliseum to a private development group for $125 million. the next step would be alameda county signing off on the deal. they need to finalize a deal and there is a lot riding on them and to help offset their budget deficit. just on the other side from the coliseum. they took on alameda high as they would try to shed the title of the longest losing streak in the state. but as andrea nakano tells us, the biggest win is coming off the field. >> reporter: these are the
