7:14 am
check out some sunshine, get away from the immediate bay area. fog not a situation today. it's cloudy just about everywhere. now there's going to be some breaks in the clouds later this week. but we're looking at a couple stormy mornings before we get there, particularly tomorrow morning. back to those temperatures. and i talked about this earlier in the lower 50's. yes, some 40's, but that's very mild compared to where we were this time from yesterday. lots of cloud cover will keep temperatures down. but, you know, it's still mild air, though, when it's somewhat tropical as well. so here it is on storm tracker. 4 give an idea of the total going the other side and you can see all of it out to see here now because this air mass is going through a lot of dry air that's going to be robbing us of potential amount of rain that we're going to get. the forecast is calling for up to maybe half an inch of rain throughout the day today and through tonight. however, that's calculating all that condenses aloft that it's going make it to the ground. that's a bit of a problem get to that in just a bit. stormtracker 4. you can see just about everybody in place, the surfer system. it's the mild low that i just

referenced. that's today. tomorrow morning, maybe tomorrow night into tuesday. then that guy takes over by midweek. it is colder. it's going to help you folks up in tahoe. now to bring those snow levels down a little bit because we're going to start very high because this air mass fairly tropical. this is it here. this is relative humidity levels and look how low they are with the rain event on our doorstep. so we're getting a lot of are going to start that evaporation before rain can strike the ground, which is what i'm talking about. so a lot we may get a half an inch of rain but whether or not in your rain gauge at the bottom has to go through dry air now, it will moistened and it doesn't quite get up to the 90's that are all locations. but it does get up there, at least in the 70's and 80's. and you can have a good rain, even with an atmosphere like this. but just remember, you're losing a little bit of what we're supposed to be getting a bit of a dry patch tries to develop to the south on monday morning. and this is when it really starts to get stormy winds change direction by this point. other words, today, they're still offshore,
7:16 am
but they will change more onshore by the time we get to tomorrow morning and throughout tomorrow afternoon. and then we're pretty much socked in with the green and the atmosphere in the environment then has become quite moist winds. here they are. look at the arrows there all offshore throughout the day today, even as we're getting rain. 05:00am monday still offshore off the solano county and off towards the east bay. we start to see a little bit the way some winds picking up towards the south. there are no wind statements reported hour. they may do that and success of shifts that the nws. but this takes us out to a tuesday morning and notice how involved the winds are. so that stormy feel we'll be giving you a little bit of a ride tomorrow morning. so just remember, it could be pretty sloppy for your monday morning commute back to future cast for in projections today. again, this is rain a lot. there you have the coverage area. nice little hit. looks like by a late this afternoon down to the south bay. you're going to be a nice little dose there as well. breaks up a little bit for tonight. looks quite spotty. and then here comes a little bigger, heavy dose. again,
7:17 am
05:06am, of some much heavier rain is going to like in these waves just about all week or at least in the early part of the week. and this goes all the way until tuesday that we have a change of the guard to start to get that cold or low in here, putting it together for you today. showers, breezy, mild 60's bay area wide early in the week. we've got showers. stormy really on monday morning. and then rain and some thunder showers working in here. by the time we get to midweek mild, though, with a mid 60's. that's because we're still and that mild pacific, a lower pulse of this this mid latitude. cyclones in the mile pacific. that's why temperatures will be still mild variable clouds towards latter portion of few showers. cooler. 60 ish upper 50's sierra forecast. just in case you're wondering at first, not much to write home about relatively speaking. it's very high. then later on a draft, here's the next couple of days for you. check it out. stormy over the next few days as temperatures start to drop. >> we'll take a or me, but does that means no way?

this is a big rain event that we're having by monday morning. it's going to very sloppy heavy winds working by this time. it will be onshore. and still, we're not quite up to the 90's everywhere. we've got some 70's and they're in 60's. you can still get rain with all of that. that's not the problem. but it will be robbing a little bit of the rain we actually get. so it's going into a very unfavorable environment to start after it gets going here. yeah, we'ie going to be stocked up and everything that falls will probably reach the ground by that point as we get the middle of the week, then the something different happens by tuesday night. it's going to be a different system moving through. that's colder. so here are the winds again, kind of offshore. they are. so that continues this dry program we've been talking about reinforcing it then by monday morning, there is a shift that starts to happen a little bit. has that next storm makes way. we don't have any statements with this yet. we might get some later on. but let's call today kind of breezy. and then tomorrow, more on the windy side. again, the wind advisory yet, but these are getting close to that threshold. and again, the direction is a little different as the low
9:16 am
gets closer. in some ways, you could say these lows are kind of brushing us as they head down to socal. and that's why maybe the rain is not going to as intense as it could back to the models. again, as you can see, we're getting hit from these waves. another interesting way this afternoon, the folks in the east bay in the south bay might get a late afternoon. this gets to almost the evening hours now almost near sunset. overnight, it's kind of quiet until very late overnight and early tomorrow morning. there's the line you're going to be marching through heavy rain at that point. winds all that involved the program. it's going to be somewhat mild because we're in the mild air mass from the mid latitudes with this is not until the gulf of alaska low drop south and will help out with some tahoe snows by that point. so putting it all together for you. we've got showers and breezy on tap today here, mild 60's. pretty much bay area wide. and that's even mid 60's early in the week. let's keep it that way with the heavy rains expected tomorrow morning, particularly storming on that account late in the week, variable clouds with a few showers that linger
9:17 am
wednesday is when the colder stuff will get here. and there's actually a resurgence right before the weekend. that's going to help tahoe out with some snows at that point with the colder air. pretty much settled in place. back to today. 62 san francisco, 63 oakland and san jose at 69. there's the big map showing you high temperatures today. not bad with the rain event because sometimes in the winter months we get a rain event. it's only like in the 50's at best but at night because of all the cloud cover we will pay will see the 30's. all i heard was. >> no bikes to school on monday morning because it's going to be raining that you inferred from all of that. and that's a good in for exactly. i was trying get all the highlights and snow coming, which is awesome. yeah. so no bike. so i would say yeah, that's probably good. and i say that. but that's good. that's kind of france. >> thank you very much. >> did you know that there are actually 3 bay area cities named among california spots with the most holiday spirit. we want to see what makes each of those cities unique. so kron four's michael thomas took a tour and it gives us this report.

with some winds involved in all of that, too. don't forget. and there you see the rain tapers off in develops for tuesday. again. and then by wednesday, it's a different type of system. the bigger picture, that's the first player. here's gulf of alaska system. always pushes it out of the way, but not as much moisture for tahoe, although it will be colder. there's that 3rd system might help out with some snow showers, pre-christmas to kind of nice timing. and then after christmas comes another wave so lets people get home. if visiting you. there's a look at some thunder showers for the middle of the week, particularly look at those lows. hardly any movement at all because of this is a mild air mass. and when that colder air funny filters in here, recent. >> thank you very much. table schooling is growing in popularity across 9 states. but some critics are against it. news nation's kelsey kernstine explains. >> i like that can tailor education to exactly their meet lauren patten from south carolina. she believes home schooling has been a gift to her family, allowing her to teach each of her 3 daughters
