see scattered throughout the area to the north us to the south of us right in us and right there to the east of us are going to see some snow in the sierra as well. happening right now. radar just showing you right between san francisco and oakland. more than a 10th of an inch of rain coming down right now as we speak. and those temperatures a little bit chillier. you can see it places like hayward mountain view, san jose. so places south to us, definitely colder compared to yesterday. those temperatures right now as we speak, san francisco, 52 oakland, 54 san jose. 54 livermore. 51 santa rosa. 53 half moon bay. we are sitting at 55 right now. but a couple different problems will continue to track throughout the day. scattered showers for us. we'll continue to watch that fog. you can see it as we peak into the east bay. high surf warning and maybe up to a foot of snow in the sierra. everything you need to know to keep you and your family safe ahead of 2024. >> throughout the morning, stephanie. alright, brittany, thank you so much for that. well, the search continues this morning for suspects involved in a fatal shooting that killed an oakland police

officer. >> it happened along the embarcadero in oakland's jack london square early friday morning. >> officers say they were responding to a burglary in progress when one of them was ambushed. police are identifying their fallen comrade as 36 year-old 20 lay officers. remember him as a dedicated public servant and a loving husband. lay was born vietnam, immigrated to the u.s. and served on the police force for the last 4 years around 1 o'clock friday morning, officers responded to a dispensary being burglarized on the 400 block of embarcadero west. then around 4.30, in the morning,3a call came in for another burglary in progress. at that same business plains clothes officers, including officer lay, responded to that call. he was fatally shot while in an unmarked vehicle. tragically. >> andy 44 in the morning, our officers succumb to his injuries. we have officers

come, please. and now county sheriff tactical team at the scene. also called in additional officers to follow up on leads, copper and those individuals involved. >> this senseless murder of a police officer. one of the guardians of our beautiful city. it will not stand. oakland will work tirelessly with all of our law enforcement partners to find those responsible for this assault on our city and the killing of our officer. >> police say at least one suspect fired several rounds at les killing him. investigators believe there are multiple suspects involved in that burglary. we actually officer lay's death continue to pour kron four's. dan thorn has more. >> a dedicated police officer, a husband and a respected member of the oakland community officer twan lane is being remembered after he was

killed in the line of duty friday morning. he was just such a great officer. >> i'm always made you respected and that made me feel as if whatever concerns that i had for my community was too much for him. kesha henderson says she first met officer lay this year as a community resource officer lay was tasked with building relationships between the police and the community. henderson says lay was always interested to learn more about the problems her neighborhood was facing the love, the challenge some of the crime issues that we were having. he was eager to fix those issues that we're experiencing in my neighborhood. the news of officer lay's death has been felt throughout the city. everything i've heard was that he known in the community in the spring part of oakland. he was well alight. he worked hard and was trying to try to troubleshoot problems big and small. >> oakland city councilmember dan kalb says it was a senseless loss, but he's confident opd is working hard to bring those who are responsible to justice.

>> he also acknowledges crime has become a big issue in the city before he was killed. officer lay was trying to stop a break-in at a cannabis dispensary. police department data shows gun robberies are up. 37% this year and commercial burglaries are up 9%. we already know that crime it is really challenging right now in oakland. it's been on and off the bat really bad for a few years now. right now over the past several months has been it's in many, many parts of town has been very bad. >> and we have a lot to do. and were working henderson says lay's death is heartbreaking, but it's hopefully a wake-up call for city leaders that criminals are even afraid of that opd >> so what message are we really saying? to those who are causing crime in our neighborhoods. reporting in oakland, dan thorn kron, 4 news. >> governor newsom has ordered flags at the state capitol be flown at half-staff in honor of officer lay. the governor says he and his family offer, quote, our deepest condolences

to officer lays family colleagues and the entire community of oakland. as we mourn the loss of a courageous public servant. the friday shooting marks the first time in opd officer has lost their life in the line of duty since march 2009. that's when the suspect shot and killed sergeant mark and officer john heggie before barricading himself in a nearby apartment. sergeant ervin romans and danced. the chi went in after the suspect and were both shot dead. the suspect was eventually killed by police. that day remains the deadliest day in the history of opd. woman is behind bars in san pablo accused of running a person over and killing them back on december 8. police say it blakely thought the person was someone who's had stolen a package from her home. she says police say blakely allegedly confronted the person as they walk down broadway avenue, an altercation started resulting in the crash based on

evidence. investigators believe the crash was an intentional assault like lee was arrested and booked on felony charges. in the south bay. 5 people are in jail accused of operating an illegal casino and brothel operation in san jose. police say this happened at a commercial building on autumn. they'll drive after obtaining a search warrant. investigators discovered and seized 33 guns including assault weapcns. 150,000 rounds of ammunition, 500 pounds of marijuana and $20,000 in cash. the 5 people arrested were booked into the santa clara county main jail. well, a new year means new laws on monday. hundreds are set to take effect, including some that will lead to major changes for workers in california. capitol correspondent eytan wallace takes a closer look for us. >> yeah, we're talking more than 900 new law set to take effect on all kinds of matters, including some that could impact the workplace.

>> you're looking at just one of the many pieces of legislation. governor gavin newsom signed this year. but just how many are we talking about georgia school of law at and professor chris mckay lee has the answer. the governor signed 990 bills 2 months ago. and so most of those take effect on january, the first 2024. among them. new laws on minimum wage, minimum wage for all workers in the state will increase with $15.50 per hour to $16 per hour. come april first minimum wage for most fast food workers will rise to 20 bucks an hour and come june most health care workers at facilities with more than 10,000 employees will see their minimum wage rise to $23 an hour and then gradually to $25 an hour over the next 2 years. it took care of us and now we're trying to show our appreciation. we know difficult it has been. republicans in the legislature expressed concerns the wage

increases will ultimately fall on consumers. somebody has to pay for that increase in 2020 for all workers will be guaranteed a minimum of 5 paid sick days and increas from the previous minimum of 3 huge victory again for all workers are. it's a really wonderful opportunity to get extra days to recover to rest for mental health, whatever they another law set to go into effect to prevent employers from disciplining or firing employees. should they tested positive for cannabis use in their off time? that may have lingered in their bodies for several days. >> or weeks, former assembly member doctor bill quirk authored the legislation. they have to show that you are actually impaired by cannabis idea it recently or on the job. >> that they can fire but they can't just using it on the weekend. you could smoke. >> on the weekends, you can. edibles on the weekends. you're free to do what you want to >> and again, these represent just a handful of the new laws set to go into effect. when we see a new year's day, we will

>> all right. welcome back. taking a live look now from our mount tam camera. what's very cold out there and quite foggy as well as 7.13, this morning. brittany, what else should we i love that camera, right? really sets at the time what we're dealing with. take a look at your screen. stormtracker 4 just backing up. what we just showed you. that's what we love about our cameras. we can see it. we can show you the science behind it. we can help plan because stormtracker 4 again just showing you. it's lit up from the north south, the west and the east. so happening right now, there's a couple storm cells right off the coast making its way into us. i also notice close to a 10th of an inch of rain. happening now from san francisco. as you make your way into the oakland area. so traffic could slowly be picking up near 5.80, and 80 in the oakland area because of that rain. we'll continue to see scattered showers throughout the day. i think

that potential will really start to simmer down around the 5 o'clock hour. but until then, we have a couple things we need to watch, including a coastal flood advisory that's going to be until 2 o'clock today. so i did notice down south of us just out of our viewing area. this coastal flood advisory. we have the potential of waves up to 40 feet and down south. i've rv's being knocked over flooding issue. this coastal warning is going to be something we'll continue to watch throughout the day, especially with some slightly gusty conditions and more rain on the way on top of what we've already had. so we'll continue to watch 6 chance again for rain throughout the day. we'll check the radar for you will also continue to watch votes are cast in terms of fog because you can see right patchy fog. we just showed you that right, especially up to the north in places like nevado a san francisco and down some patchy fog as colder temperatures make its way into us the past couple days we've been dealing with gusty some places up in the peaks 50 miles per hour. we're looking

at breezy conditions throughout the day. so we're not looking at 20 to 30 miles per hour, but we are still watching that rain. more rain today that saturated soil and those light gusty conditions could cause an issue knocking down some trees. temperatures right now we're going to struggle to get to the 60's were going to be the upper 50's and 60's for the entire region. 59 for santa rosa, half moon bay. 58 san jose. 62 antioch. we're at 59. so again, those temperatures going to be breezier conditions and just above freezing in places like santa rosa. we're looking at 38 for you for your lows tonight at moon bay. 47 san jose. 45 livermore. 42. so that potential rain. what we're watching again is that we're above freezing so that we're not dealing with black ice, especially up to the north of us. the 7 day forecast just really showing you those yeah, we'll have that new year's going to be dry. sunny, that's the good news. but we have some showers and cloudy conditions that we have to get through for the rest a couple of days, stephanie. so we'll stay connected because we're getting a break on monday. but

more rain headed our way. alright, brittany, thank you so much. as we gear up for the new year, new changes will be coming to bar in january 2024, that does include a fee increase. >> proud boys. tiffany justice is live for us from walnut creek. with all the details on tiffany. >> hey, stephanie reitz starting monday, fares will be increasing for most writers by 5.5% rai ing the average fare by $0.23. we know that they're increase was approved by bart's board of directors. the board deciding to deviate from their usual policy approving a fear increase every 2 years. instead, increasing fares, january 1st by 5.5%. and then again, next year by the same rate, they say to cushion the economic impact to the writers. so here's what you can expect. again, the average fare will increase by $0.23 a 12 mile trip from downtown berkeley to the embarcadero, for example, will increase by

$0.25. and then the longer trip that is the higher the increase will be a 45 mile trip from antioch to montgomery street will increase by $0.40 for your total dollars and $0.60. also starting on january first, the transit agency is starting their clipper start program for low income based their discount for party will increase from 20 to 50%. meaning low income riders will pay half the price of a regular fare. so the clipper program is for bay area. residents age 19 to 64. we know earning under 200% of the federal poverty level will stay on top of this for you guys have me back to you. all right, tiffany, thank you so much for your coverage on this. well, starting next year, april minimum wage for large, fast food chains goes up to $20 an hour in california. >> that could mean major impacts across the fast food industry in our state. ben morris takes a look. >> the new law will impact workers at large chains with more than 60 locations nationwide tuesday, it was

>> happening right now, chp maximum enforcement period is under way through midnight tuesday as we get ever closer to new years during this time all available officers will be deployed to monitor roadways across the state. chp, they arrested nearly 600 drivers statewide on suspicion of dui during last year's new year's maximum enforcement period. meantime, aaa says friday was one of the busiest travel days of the year as folks made their way to or from holiday destinations. today is also expected to be a busy day on the roads. aaa says the best time dry for the next few days is before noon. and after 07:00pm. well, season is almost over, but lots of traffic still expected at local airports live. look now as the fall. you could see some planes just kind of sitting there on the tarmac at this hour. we our keeping track of any potential bullet

>> now on the kron 4 morning news. we're tracking the rain falling across the bay area. the impact on local travel plans. and the contra costa county board of supervisors are demanding full access to the martinez refinery after several chemical releases this year. welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. we'll get to all those stories in just a moment. let's get you started this half hour with a look at your were very wet forecast. brittany begley is tracking it all for say britney. that is a theme. a wet forecast. rain, foggy conditions and snow. we have it all this morning when to make sure you're prepared again. looking at the storm tracker for what you're going to see is a lot of green. and again, that's going to show those scattered showers. we have the potential throughout the day. i think things will slowly start to look later this evening. but we've got to get through the next couple of hours. so again, radar just showing you storm tracker 4 really seeing scattered showers throughout the area.

so watching this band of showers, basically san francisco making its way towards oakland. all right. now, just right under a 10th of an inch. but it's been consistent since we started the newscast at 7. we'll continue to watch right here. all of that white and purple. that's going to be snow in the sierra. we have an advisory that's going to wrap up in the sierra a little bit later on today. but we could actually see about a foot of snow 7200 or above. just checked. we do not need chains on 50, but they are actually screening for chains on trucks on 80. so again, we had that potential for snow for the rest of the day. temperatures on sunday going to warm up slightly. we're going to be at 39 and by monday and tuesday, we're going to be the lower 40's, big picture showing for us rain, rain and drizzle on the way. so 9 o'clock hour we're going to be in the slightly get to the 60's for some folks around noontime and those temperatures are going to go down around 3 o'clock. 5 o'clock hour. temperatures going to chillier compared to yesterday. we're going to

>> but he still doesn't feel totally safe driving in these conditions. it's everyone else that really have to watch out for. i give a lot of extra space. >> yeah. try just keep up with traffic. not extra as the new governor and contra costa county public works is recommending people avoid the roads. >> if you have to drive, they suggest being cautious and allowing extra time. schuster says he's hopeful for a break in the rain for the rest of the holiday season of the players out for new year's eve different. >> that was amanda hari reporting for us and new this morning, police arrested 2 people after a tense situation involving an armed robbery suspect in san francisco. that incident happened around 11:00pm on december. 21st on the 200 block of ellis street. police say a man with their face covered jumped over store counter, brandished a firearm and then ran off with cash. officers arrested the suspect marsy's calland urban is accused of robbery, resisting

arrest and more a during the arrest. a crowd formed around the officers and the suspect. police detained a woman who allegedly spat on officers from the crowd. and san francisco police arrested a suspect in connection to an august shooting in the mission district. antonio malik rogers, a callow was taken into custody thursday in daly city officers with a search warrant also seized evidence believed to be tied to the shooting death. they say back in august a body was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the 2400 block of harrison street. and the man accused of a string of deadly stabbings in davis. this past spring will stand trial. carlos dominguez is set to return to court in one week. he's accused of killing 2 people and seriously injuring a 3rd person between late april and early may at the time medical assessments by the yolo county da's office and the suspect's defense team found him not competent to stand a criminal trial. but in august, a judge

ordered dominguez to be taken to a state hospital which certified his competency. contra costa county board of supervisors. they are demanding full access to the martinez refinery following several chemical releases this year. the letter to pbf energy demands contra costa health be provided full access to the facility, documents and data on the refineries operations. it also calls a number of releases and other incidents on acceptable for allegedly putting the safety of nearby communities at risk. cch says they've documented 21 spills of hazardous materials and 46 flaring incidents since november of last year. >> air quality management district is asking bay area residents not to burn wood over the new year's weekend. officials say wood-burning during the holiday weekend can significantly affect the air quality. and now to the race for the white house. there's continued focus on the ballot battles of former president donald trump, both colorado

and maine have sought to remove trump from their ballots. kron four's. catherine heenan has the latest, including what california is doing. >> california's lieutenant governor tried to get donald trump off the california ballot telling secretary of state shirley weber to explore every legal option. but weber decided this week not to exclude him from the state's ballot saying in a letter that she must place the sanctity of elections above partisan politics, maybe more to the point her boss, governor newsom, had already said trump should stay on the ballot saying trump should face defeat by voters. another argument, remember, donald trump has not been convicted of any charge involving the insurrection. he hasn't been convicted. >> and there's a reasonable argument to made that since the 14th amendment is about due process, that some process should be attached to any determination. on the other hand, section 3 of the 14 amendment also seems the

state. by virtue of the fact that you are participating in automatically disqualify unless congress give you exemption by two-thirds vote. last week, colorado state supreme court ruled that trump was an eligible. >> to run for president citing the insurrection, a span of the constitution's 14th amendment. then this week, the main secretary of state said that she would bounce trump from that state's ballot. i'm mindful that new secretary of state has ever deprived. you can debate about access under section 3 of the 14th amendment. >> but no presidential candidate has ever engaged insurrection. >> both the main and colorado decisions are on hold until january. 4th until the trump team can seek a u.s. supreme court review. but political analyst michael yaki is not so sure that trump is in any hurry to make that happen.

feeling is that the trump campaign. >> doesn't want us to go into supreme court because if they lose, they lose everywhere. right now they're losing in a couple states that they probably aren't counting in their electoral valley configuration. i think with their quite willing to serve protests to like make a lot of noise fundraise off it a let it go. and that was catherine heenan reporting for us this morning. >> the colorado republican party is also asking the supreme court to get involved if the supreme court does eventually agreed to decide whether states can bar trump, it would be an unprecedented case at a huge focus of the 2024 campaign. with the new year comes new tax brackets. the irs is putting in place higher limits for federal income tax bracket starting on monday. this means americans may be able to retain more of their income. rockets are increasing about 5.4% for both individual and married filers.

the new bracket starts at just over $609,000. the irs says the reason for the changes to address inflation. >> it's never going a all right. >> keep up all the way. because what they're doing is is again, they're making us a one-time and the fall. >> are based off of the fall. cpi. but even that is going to effect until january. so you have this lag period. >> the standard deduction is changing as well and will be up by 5.4%. in national news. the crush of migrants on the southern border is expected to continue into the new year. our washington correspondent basil john, takes a look ahead at what lawmakers are planning. >> house republicans are planning a trip to the border next week and here in washington, senators will continue negotiations for legislation to discourage mass migration. house republicans are attacking president biden for his immigration policies. as washington looks for a way

say they were responding to a burglary in progress when one of them was ambushed. police are identifying their fallen comrade as 36 year-old twan lay officers. remember him as a dedicated public servant and loving husband. lay was born to in vietnam, immigrated to the u.s. and served on the police force for the last 4 years. around 1 o'clock friday morning, officers responded to a dispensary being burglarized on the 400 block of embarcadero west, then around 04:30am, in the morning, a call came in for another burglary in progress. at the same business, plainclothes officers, including officer lay, responded to that call. he was fatally shot well in an unmarked vehicle. tragically. >> eddie 44 in the morning, our officers succumb to his injuries. we have officers come, please. and now county sheriff tactical team at the scene. also called in

additional officers to follow up on leads, and those individuals involved. >> this senseless murder of a police officer. one of the guardians of our beautiful city. it will not stand. oakland will work tirelessly with all of our law enforcement partners to find those responsible for this assault on our city and the killing of our officer. >> police say at least one suspect fired several rounds at les killing him. investigators believe there are multiple suspects involved in the burglary. reactions to officer lay's death continue to pour in this morning. kron four's dan thorn has the details. >> a dedicated police officer, a husband and a respected member of the oakland community officer twan lane is being remembered after he was killed in the line of duty friday morning. he was just such a great officer. >> i'm always made you respected and that made me

feel as if whatever concerns that i had for my community was too much for him. kesha henderson says she first met officer lay this year as a community resource officer lay was tasked with building relationships between the police and the community. henderson says lay was always interested to learn more about the problems her neighborhood was facing the love, the challenge some of the crime issues that we were having. he was eager to fix those issues that we're experiencing in my neighborhood. the news of officer lay's death has been felt throughout the city. everything i've heard was that he known in the community in the part of oakland. he was well alight. he worked hard and was trying to try to troubleshoot problems big and small. >> oakland city councilmember dan kalb says it was a senseless loss, but he's confident opd is working hard to bring those who are responsible to justice. >> he also acknowledges crime has become a big issue in the city before he was killed. officer lay was trying to stop

a break-in at a cannabis dispensary. police department data shows gun robberies are up. 37% this year and commercial burglaries are up 9%. we already know that crime is really challenging right now in oakland. it's been on and off of that really bad for a few years now. right now over the past several months has been it's in many, many parts of town. it's been very bad. >> and we have a lot to do. and were working henderson says lay's death is heartbreaking, but it's hopefully a wake-up call for city leaders that criminals are even afraid of that opd >> so what message are we really saying? to those who are causing crime in our neighborhoods. reporting in oakland, dan thorn kron, 4 news. governor newsom has ordered flags at the state capitol be flown at half-staff. >> in honor of officer lay, the governor says he and his family offer, quote, our deepest condolences to officer lays family colleagues and the entire community of oakland. as we mourn the loss of a

courageous public servant. friday shooting marks the first time in opd officer has lost their life in the line of duty since march 2009. that's what a suspect shot and killed sergeant mark done a kitten officer john heggie before barricaded himself in a nearby apartment. sergeant ervin romans and dance a chi when and after the suspect and were both shot dead. the suspect was eventually killed by police. that day remains the deadliest day in the history of opd. woman is behind bars in san pablo accused of running a person over and killing them back on december. 8th. police say blakely thought the person was someone who had stolen a package from her home. police say likely allegedly confronted that person as they walk down broadway avenue, an altercation started resulting in a crash based on evidence. investigators believe the crash was an intentional assault. weekly was arrested and booked on felony charges.

in the south bay. 5 people are in jail accused of operating an illegal casino and brothel operation in san jose. police say this happened at a commercial building on autumn bill drive after obtaining a search warrant, investigators discovered and seized 33 guns including assault weapons. 150,000 rounds of ammunition, 500 pounds of marijuana and $20,000 in cash. the 5 people arrested were booked into the santa clara county main jail. peninsula. caltrain hit and killed a pedestrian friday night. it happened shortly before 6.30, near the menlo park caltrain station. the northbound train was carrying. 31 passengers at the time. there were no injuries to anyone on board. our new year means new laws on monday. hundreds are set to take effect, including some that will lead to major changes for workers here in california, capitol correspondent eytan wallace takes a closer look for us. >> yeah, we're talking more

than 900 new laws that take effect on all kinds of matters, including some that could impact the workplace. >> you're looking at just one of the many pieces of legislation. governor gavin newsom signed this year. but just how many are we talking about georgia school of law at and professor chris mckay lee has the answer. the governor signed 990 bills 2 months ago. and so most of those take effect on january, the first 2024. among them. new laws on minimum wage, minimum wage for all workers in the state will increase with $15.50 per hour to $16 per hour. come april first minimum wage for most fast food workers will rise to 20 bucks an hour and come june most health care workers at facilities with more than 10,000 employees will see their minimum wage rise to $23 an hour and then gradually to $25 an hour over the next 2 years. it took care of us and

now we're trying to show our appreciation. we know difficult it has been. republicans in the legislature expressed concerns the wage increases will ultimately fall on consumers. somebody has to pay for that increase in 2020 for all workers will be guaranteed a minimum of 5 paid sick days and increase from the previous minimum of 3 huge victory again for all workers are. it's a really wonderful opportunity to get extra days to recover to rest for mental health, whatever they another law set to go into effect to prevent employers from disciplining or firing employees. should they test positive for cannabis use in their off time? that may have lingered in their bodies for several days. >> or weeks, former assembly member doctor bill quirk authored the legislation. they have to show that you are actually impaired by cannabis idea it recently or on the job. >> that they can fire but they can't just using it on the weekend. you could smoke. >> on the weekends, you yeah. the bulls on the weekends. you're free to do what you want to

>> welcome back. i'm meteorologist brittany begley. a quick look at our micro climates. you can see that weather story just showing you san francisco, east bay hills mount tam cam showing those foggy conditions happening right now as we speak half of bay not looking bad, but we have a coastal advisory expected to wrap up at 2 san jose. i can see some clouds but some sunshine peeking through for you and golden gate bridge in the corner of your screen. you can see the wet slippery roadways. so just showing you that we're dealing with fog. we're dealing with wet, slippery roadways and even some snow in the mountains. so formerly backing

up that story radar just a lit up this oakland we're still watching for you really is going to be oakland on 80 as you make your way into san francisco or san francisco and oakland, whichever way you're going pocket a showers just moving south of you about a quarter of an inch an hour or so out. still sloppy commute probably on a t as the cell move south for the next 20 minutes. we'll continue to watch and quinton about a quarter of an inch. a little less than that right there near 5.80, coming down for you right now as we speak. and then to the east that we're still watching right here, all of this snow. so if you're headed to the sierra, we could see about 2 to 6 inches of snow. but in some places elevated of a 7200 feet, we could actually see a foot of snow. last time i checked, they were not screening for chains on 50, but they were screening for chains on trucks on 80 just to set that tone. so in addition to the snow in the mountains and the rain that we're going to here, probably about a quarter inch to some spots. we are receive

the average price for a bar ticket is going to be raising by $0.23. the fare increase was approved by bart board of directors. the board deciding to deviate from its usual policy of approving a fare increase every 2 years. instead, increasing fares, january 1st by 5.5%. and then again, next year by the same rate, they say to cushion the economic impact to their writers. so here is what you can expect. again, the average fare will increase by $0.23 a 12 mile trip from downtown berkeley to the embarcadero, for example, will increase by $0.25. and the longer the trip is the higher the increase will be a 45 mile trip for an antioch to montgomery street will increase by $0.40 for your total dollars and $0.60. so starting on january first as well. the transit agency is starting their clipper start program for low-income riders. e based fair discount for bart will increase from 20 to 50%. meaning low income riders will

stories in just a moment. thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. let's get you started this half hour with a look at your saturday forecast to miss britney begley is tracking it all for brittany. yeah. rise in good morning. we're some foggy weather. you can see that right behind me. right? also going to see some wet spots as you make your way out this saturday. taking a look again at sfo. i just double checked. >> some slight flight delays, but nothing like we're dealing with last week. the u.s. still want to check because you can see those conditions just wet, dreary, really setting the tone for the day. so we will see scattered showers throughout the day. we'll continue to watch a warning. that's going to be a 2 o'clock right there on the coast. we have a high wind advisory. we're also watching a coastal warning as well. we could maybe even isolated waves up to 40 feet. and we'll continue to watch an advisory in the sierra. they could actually see a foot of snow. so basically radar just showing you it's going to be active on not as bad as when we started are really watching the radar overnight. but we're still seeing some activity and

specially the oakland area. so if you live in oakland, you might notice pockets of showers a little bit more than a quarter of an inch coming down right now as we speak near the interstate san quentin, just north of the interstate for you. about a quarter of an inch of rain still coming down for you on top of drizzly conditions throughout the area and foggy conditions. so we're still seeing a foggy conditions in places in san francisco, nevado and santa rosa. that's going to stick around probably until the 11 o'clock hour and things will slowly start to look better for us. thankfully, it's not to gusty right now. calm conditions for us. but those temperatures were in the 50's for the entire region. san francisco, 53 livermore, 51 half moon bay. we're at 55. we're going to struggle to get to the 60's just because the sun and gray skies will track that all down for your holiday forecast. coming up next. a funny. alright, brittany, thank you. and we continue our coverage of the wet weather with a look at pleasant hill. kron four's amanda hari spoke with drivers and others braving the conditions out there.

roads. >> if you have to drive, they suggest being cautious and allowing extra time. schuster says he's hopeful for a break in the rain for the rest of the holiday season of the players out for new year's eve different. >> and that was amanda hari reporting for us this morning. and new this morning, police arrested 2 people after a tense situation involving an armed robbery suspect in san francisco. the incident happened around 11:00pm december. 21st on the 200 block of ellis street. police say a man with their face covered jumped over a store counter, brandished a firearm and then ran off with cash. officers arrested the suspect marsy's kellen urban is accused of robbery, resisting arrest and more during that arrest, a crowd formed around the officers and the suspect. police detained a woman who allegedly spat on officers from the crowd. san francisco police arrested a suspect in connection to an august shooting in the mission

district. antonio malik calo was taken into custody thursday in daly city officers with the search warrant also seized evidence believed to be tied to the shooting death back in august, a body was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the 2400 block of harrison street. and the man accused of a string of deadly stabbings and davis. this past spring will stand trial. carlos dominguez is set to return to court in one week. he's accused of killing 2 people and seriously injuring a 3rd person between late april and early may at the time medical assessments by the yolo county da's office and the suspect's defense team found him not competent to stand a criminal trial in august. a judge ordered aiming is to be taken to a state hospital certified his competency. the contra costa county board of supervisors are demanding full access to the martinez refinery following several chemical releases earlier this year. the letter to pbf energy

demands contra costa health be provided full access to the facility. documents and data on the refineries operations. it also calls a number of releases and other incidents an acceptable for allegedly putting the safety of nearby communities at risk. cch says they have documented 21 spills of hazardous materials and 46 flaring incidents since november of last year. >> the bay area air quality management district is asking bay area residents not to burn wood over the new year's weekend. officials say that were burning during this weekend can significantly affect the air quality. and now to the race for the white house. there's continued focus on the ballot battles of former president donald trump. both colorado and maine have sought to remove trump from their ballots. kron four's. catherine heenan has the latest, including what california is doing. >> california's lieutenant governor tried to get donald trump off the california ballot telling secretary of

state shirley weber to explore every legal option. but weber decided this week not to exclude him from the state's ballot saying in a letter that she must place the sanctity of elections above partisan politics, maybe more to the point her boss, governor newsom, had already said trump should stay on the ballot saying trump should face defeat by voters. another argument, remember, donald trump has not been convicted of any charge involving the insurrection. he hasn't been convicted. >> and there's a reason are going to made that since the 14th amendment is about due process. process should be attached to any determination. on the other hand, section 3 of the 14 amendment also seems the state. by virtue of the fact that you are participating in insurrection, you are automatically disqualify unless congress gives you exemption by two-thirds last week, colorado state supreme court ruled that trump was an eligible. >> to run for president citing

>> surveillance cameras captured powerful waves slamming into a seaside restaurant in the monterrey area thursday. the massive surf over and the beach in aptos heading straight into the coastal community, leaving the area covered in debris. meantime, the national weather service reported waves ranging from 28 to 33 feet high in the santa cruz area. it take a look at this moment. a massive wave crashing onto a beach in ventura, california. you could see is slamming into onlookers. at least 8 people were hospitalized. the national weather service is urging people to stay away from the water along the coast. dangerous conditions continue through the day today. most of the west coast is dealing with less than normal snow pack this season. according to the new york times, that's forcing some ski resorts to operate at

rain. so one area we've been continuing to watch is going to be the oakland area. you may wake up this morning to hear that rain coming down about more than a quarter of an inch. happening now near the 85, 80 interchange also on that bridge as you make your way into san francisco, san quentin, just north you about a quarter of an inch rain happening now in the 5.80, in the one. 23, i think that's going to stick around probably for the next half an hour. we'll update you with radar, but you're going to see again scattered showers throughout the day. i think less than a quarter of an for the whole entire region. but that's on top of what we've already seen. some places like santa rosa close to an inch and a half. san francisco. you're looking at close to a quarter and a quarter inch of rain compared to what we had the past couple of days. not to mention last system brought places like san francisco, 4 inches of rain. so our water, you're actually starts in october we're not as fluid as we were last year, but we are still making way with the rain will continue to watch that

coastal flood advisory. i know we just showed you some video just south of us in santa cruz area, but we have the potential to see those waves, maybe even up to 40 feet, those isolated wave. so it's still going to be considered dangerous to go swimming and surfing and want to be mindful of flooding potential and where you park this holiday season expecially with this coastal flood advisory could flood out your car. we notice that down south. we'll continue to watch those foggy conditions we've been showing you throughout the day, especially in the santa rosa area, novato area. so up to the north and patchy fog in san francisco along with those drizzly conditions throughout the day, temperatures are going to struggle to get past 60. so we're going to stay right there for the entire region. upper 50's and 60's santa rosa, 60 san francisco. 57 san jose, 60 to livermore. 59 and those lows are going to be just above freezing santa rosa. 38 san francisco. 45 and san jose. 45 so again above freezing. that's the good news is especially with the rain but those temperatures are going to be chilly. the big
