just like the niners are really i mean, they got to be on the top of their game. i know how i think we're going get some rain moving yeah. yeah. today's kind of our last of our rainiest days before we get to our generally drier forecast this weekend. so if you've got those plans and maybe get in the backyard, barbecue fired up this weekend, you are good to go for it. so think about that as we get the rain jackets back on today. looking outside right now, we do have a lot of rainfall activity to the north right now. you can see. >> our next line of showers still several hours out of the way. this first line of showers is about to drop in across the bay, though, right now we are seeing some light showers here and there across santa rosa. and if you as well down towards san jose, it's much like yesterday with a few in the north bay city in the south bay and try in the middle. we are going to be seeing rainfall picking up, though, here in short order, especially 08:00am for the north bay 9 for the rest of the bay area towards 10:00am as well. and it's going to come along with the push of stronger winds to so get ready for a bit of a stormy late morning into early afternoon.

ammunition after what happened yesterday. so let me show you a map of the location where it all went do at around 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon. it was in e pretrial hill area at 17th and mississippi. it involved 3 parties. one, the waymo, driverless car, another a garbage uc and cyclists now according to waymo and they don't have the final say. of coursn, it will be the san francisco police department. but according to waymo that garbage truck and the waymo driver of this car. they were at the intersection. the garbage truck goes through it. and according to waymo, they claim that the cyclist was right behind the garbage truck where it blocked the vision. the cameras of the waymo driverless car. the driverless car went through the intersection, saw the cyclist at the last moment. but then the cyclist waymo. so

it depends on who us whether the cyclists hit waymo or waymo hit the cyclist. but nonetheless, again, this adds to the controversy of driverless cars. we already know that cruz has been suspended from operating. >> driverless cars within the city of san francisco, san francisco supervisor. well, he took to facebook almost immediately when he found out what happened. and here's his statement from supervisor shamann walton. he says driverless waymo vehicle just struck. a cyclist has 17th and mississippi. so much injuries and was able to paddle away from the scene. >> back to all right. thank you. will. >> 608, is the time in state.

police have identified 2 people suspected of shooting and injuring an alameda county sheriff's deputy. it happened last month. michael door thick and let it touch an were found dead after a daylong standoff after the shooting. this all happened on january 24th in a warehouse district along dowe avenue near alvarado. niles road. a deputy was trying to serve an eviction notice when he was shot hit in the arm and after several attempts to negotiate police eventually found the 2 inside dead from what appeared to be self-inflicted gunshot wounds. investigators have not provided details on those two's relationship. we also learned the deputy who was shot is recovering at home. the alameda county sheriff's department sent us this picture shows deputies and members of other law enforcement agencies greeting that deputy when he was discharged from the hospital. >> also in the east bay, hundreds of physicians within the alameda health system have voted to authorize a strike.

99.5% voted yes, monday to authorize that strike. the physicians voted to form their union in february of 2022 and begin bargaining their first contract with the system. since then issues in negotiations have included reducing non direct patient care time and propose cuts to benefits, including mental health and fertility. leave. flaring according. flaring occurred late last night at martinez, refining company. the news coming from the company's facebook page. they say there is potential for intermittent flaring while employees try to repair the defective equipment. according to the page, flares are and the central part of the refineries safety systems to manage actor excess gases, all appropriate agencies, they say have been notified. we'll keep you updated. >> its 6.10, still ahead on the kron. morning news. a san francisco man says that he is the number one niners fan. we're going to hear about his

county pg and e sent helicopters to deliver replacement power poles. look at this lot of have been without power, as you know, since the sunday storms. and it's been challenging. they say, to get the power back on because of damage in rural areas is difficult to get to. and so that's something you don't often see airlifting a power pole on the peninsula. the small community on tara is still in the dark. a tree fell onto some lines there. and so there's some customers that have no electricity and they're going on days now since sunday, crews are working to get the lights back on, but they are running into issues like flooding and still some downed trees. so lot of cleanup still continuing, but we do have more rain on the way. do in fact, for more on that, let's head over to the weather center johnson tracking it. i think this is the last big punch before we have a nice weekend. that's you have 100% today is kind of the last one that you got to be getting geared up for. >> and if you do see any trees that are maybe not looking so steady.

those heavier areas of rain that will push across the bay on towards late morning and early afternoon. so get ready for that. it comes along pretty quickly here. spotty showers to follow into the afternoon. you'll get some afternoon clearing but still watch the radar for a few holdouts. showers tonight into tomorrow. generally coming down tomorrow afternoon. you may see an isolated thunderstorm pop up but really pretty smooth sailing after today with the weekend ahead in particular, looking great with clear skies, dry conditions and mild weather. today's rainfall amounting to anywhere between a quarter of an inch to about a half an inch of rainfall for parts of the south bay and the santa cruz mountains. so some decent rain, but flooding risk is pretty nonexistent from this as it does move through rather quickly, winds will pick up this afternoon, peak wind gusts as high as 45 miles per hour. it's nothing like sunday's wind was, but it is enough to cause a threat to some of those trees out there that may already be damaged from the last storm up in the sierra nevada. the next

for justice and do the right thing. >> travel issue was not on tuesday's agenda. so the city council couldn't take any action on it. the san jose city council also has not considered a formal measure calling for a cease-fire in gaza is 6.20 and as the homelessness crisis gets worse in california, some democrats and republicans are coming together. >> introducing legislation they think will help. there is a plan that calls for compassionately clearing encampments in communities are across the state. senate minority leader republican brian jones and a group of 19 republicans and democrats announced this bill that would ban encampments within 500 feet of schools, parks and transit stopped prohibit camping on sidewalks if shelter beds are available and require 72 hours. notice before an encampment can be cleared. this bill would also require officers to provide people in encampments with services.

>> and we're back 6.24. is the time in the south bay gilroy. police are investigating a vandalism at a high school where hate graffiti was written on the walls throughout the school. this was a christopher high school on monday night. that's where police made this discovery. they say 3 suspects also ransacked multiple classrooms. anyone with information is asked to contact detroit police. in the north bay. police in fairfield have arrested a 15 year-old boy tuesday on suspicion of creating a swatting response

to cause schools to go into lockdown for several hours last week. friday vanden high school and 2 other schools were placed on lockdown after police dispatch received a call saying that someone at than done had a gun. police say they suspected that the call might be an attempt at swatting and investigation was carried out by the school's resource officer. and that led to the identification of a 15 year-old vanden school. a student as the suspect in on tuesday, officers arrested that boy at his home and he's now been booked into juvenile hall. >> its 6.25, and another bay area tech company is laying off workers. san francisco based docu sign is laying off about 400 employees. the company says the job cuts are part of a restructuring plan. the electronic signature company says that a majority of layoffs are going to be in the sales and marketing divisions. and another business in san francisco is closing bloom room. >> will close permanently at 6

catalytic converters. it's just beyond a reasonable for any working class person adding that last year alone, the city of san jose saw around 836 people report their catalytic converter stolen. many who say that they had to pay anywhere from one to $3,000 for an insurance deductible, adding that the goal of this policy is to send a clear message that that if you still from the working class, the full force of the law will come down on you. the group goes on to say that they do hope that these changes help san jose pd when it comes to the details of when they go into full effect of well, i did reach out to them this morning. im still waiting to hear back in san jose. michael thomas kron. 4 news. >> thank you, michael. and now let's go to a story. we first brought you here on the kron. 4 morning news. 100 california highway patrol officers are now in oakland. they're trying to crack down on crime. yeah. so they'll be helping local law enforcement. governor newsom is hoping that deploying these extra officers will help tackle. >> some of these ongoing problems we've been dealing with the rise in violent crimes, retail theft, things like that. kron four's

amanda hari has more. >> the governor's office, california highway patrol and the city of oakland are now working together to curb crime and violence in oakland, 120 chp officers from throughout the 9 bay area. counties have been assigned to the town. councilmember dan kalb says he believes the officers will help deter criminals will help fill in the gaps in and patrol and be visible. >> and to help deter crime. and if they see a crime, they'll take action. called says one area the officers will be focusing on is traffic control. some of them will enforce a serious traffic laws like if they see someone who's, you recklessly speeding and danger now, stop them and give them a ticket and that will deter speeding, reckless driving. oakland mayor sheng thao says she's seen in the past that additional help from chp can make a big difference. this is really taking backing off of last year when we've asked support from chp bbc, 6 chp officers and a sergeant. >> last year in with a were

burglarized. anybody with information is asked to contact the police. >> well, san francisco city attorney david chiu says he suspended a handful of tow truck companies from doing business with the city over alleged illegal activities. now, according to one of those companies called auto towing illegally towed cars from private parking lots limited. the times of these vehicles could be retrieved and even pressured owners too hand over cash if they want to get their cars back. in the east bay. police in alameda are warning residents about scammers posing as cable or electric company workers. they say before letting anyone into your home ask for identification you can also call the company or the organization they claim to be with. police say it's ok to ask the person to leave while you verify their identity. >> san francisco pride is announcing the theme of this year's pride events beacon of love. that's the theme for the 54th annual san francisco lgbtq pride parade and celebration. a san francisco

pride says that this year's theme embodies the in a spirit of san francisco as a global leader in the fight for lgbtq+ liberation and fundamental human rights. the pride events run from june 29th to june. 30th. >> well, the drama continues in las vegas with the oakland a's. turns out the mayor of las vegas now is apparently against the team's choice to move there in an interview on the front office sports today, podcast las vegas mayor carolyn goodman criticize the a's plan to build a new stadium there on the side of the tropicana hotel hotels on the strip, as you can imagine, that would bring a lot of foot and traffic congestion to the downtown area. and goodman said, quote, they've got to figure out a way to stay in oakland and make their dream come true. and quote, oakland mayor sheng thao respond to those comments by saying her door is always open for the a's.

unregistered converter. the city says that 836 catalytic converter thefts were reported in 2023. a waymo vehicle was involved in a crash with a bicyclist in san francisco. everybody's okay. but police say this happened at 3 yesterday afternoon. the city is for turner hill neighborhood. the cyclist does not have life-threatening injuries. in fact, he was able to paddle away. waymo says the car applied heavy braking but was unable to stop in time to avoid that bump with the bicyclist. the san francisco board of appeals will hold a hearing tonight about reopening the great highway to vehicles again was back in 2022. that the board voted to continue that car free space until 2025. san francisco voters. have the option reopening the highway 2 cars again, decided not to do that. they rejected that during the election season and the martinez refining company says that a flaring incident did occur late last night. they say there is the potential for intermittent flaring to continue as employees work to repair the problem.

right around woodside. also a couple sprinkles. we had been seeing those light showers in the south bay kind of calming down. now, cold front rushes through. this will result winds getting a little breezier later on. but it's not an exceptionally windy day, but it is enough that those trees that are already on the edge might not have a good time with it. futurecast does show a few light showers drifting through over the next hour or 2 here. the heaviest of rainfall arrives for the north bay 8 peninsula at night 10 for the rest of us and some heavy rain and there as well. pockets of heavy rain will continue all the way up to the noon hour into the afternoon. spotty showers continuing for a few hours generally after 03:00pm. we should be starting to see some clearing. you're not necessarily out of the woods, but definitely on the tail end by that skies tonight will stay dry tomorrow morning is a dry one tomorrow afternoon. a couple of pop-up brief showers kind of like we had seen a couple days ago on monday. what we will see on friday, though, is the set up for a nice and dry weekend.
