8:06 am
mississippi. 3 parties are involved. one was a driverless waymo. the other was a garbage truck in a cyclist according to waymo who did their investigation. they claim that the driverless car was not at fault that the cyclists was right behind the garbage truck. the garbage truck went through the intersection, but because the cyclist was right behind the garbage truck, the driverless car could not spot the cyclists before he got into the intersection. and at the very last moment the cameras spotted the cyclist slammed on the car's brakes. but by then, it was the cyclist who hit the waymo vehicle. at this particular point. we do know that the cyclists, minor injuries and left the scene paddling away from the scene. but in the court of public opinion, we already know about cruz. the dmv has suspended their

operations in san francisco. now there was a san francisco supervisor who immediately took to facebook and posted this a driverless waymo vehicle struck a cyclist at 17th and mississippi. so much for safety, obviously being very sarcastic about that. and that was san francisco supervisor to back to you. >> thanks a lot. we'll 807. and we are ready for the ultimate face i'm over here tith over here and follow wearing blue were both chair for the niners, as told on. so obviously on sunday we've got brock purdy, patrick holmes going head to head for super

bowl all eyes on las vegas, of course, as you can imagine. and really all eyes on brock and the team, they're going to getting the practice field today. the fans are showing up in droves. a lot of them, 40 niner fans apparently there and justine waltman has been out there all week and she says, yeah, she's been big packed with a 9 or jerseys. >> it's time now to get down to business for the quarterbacks for both the kansas city chiefs and the san francisco forty-niners. that would be patrick mahomes and of course, brock purdy. the focus is really turn to them as far as who there is people type of leaders that they are. but of course, they have some really good numbers. look how far they've taken both of their teams so far into the postseason. so their numbers both are really good. we'll start with brock because, you go niner nation. he is the top rated passer in the league for the very first time, even though he was the last pick in the 2022. nfl draft party has proven to be a lot more than just a game manager. he mister relevant, making himself very relevant in the post season
8:09 am
also we have patrick mahomes. he already has 2 rings. he's looking to add a 3rd. he is a beast when it comes to the postseason, he has led a five-game winning drives and for 4th quarter comebacks in his short career and during tuesday's media session, both teams wanted to make sure that people know how much they bring to the team's what they provide as leaders. they're saying they do a lot more. then what they do just on the field. but it's what they do off the field. that counts just as much as well. >> rock is so and you don't. he's not about his self mays. a team guy man just that and it trickles down. he doesn't have to change much. that's really who he is. i mean, brock is this humble of a person as i've ever been around? know when it came to the league can see it on right away. you've seen it through everything. i mean, the 3rd string quarterback to starting quarterback what he's done this year. we still the same guys who was the first day you when you go through some ups and downs with people, you you make it through the other side. it's a beautiful thing. just wanted that much more for the person next to, you know,
8:10 am
in much work they put yeah, you know, we've we've gotten a great relationship over the past 3 years just be able to work up at a blessing. you know, obviously i know he's probably the best quarterback in the league right the best in a while, too. so it's it's a blessing just to get to work with them. we're on a good relationship over the past 2 years. >> all right. so here's whwt's on tap today here in las vegas. both the chiefs and the san francisco forty-niners have an official practice and official media availability. we know kron four's. kate rooney is going to go there. check out with the niners are up to sun. she will have a some live reports for you later on here on kron 4. so we can hear how the players are feeling as they get closer and closer to super bowl sunday. and there's lots of other fun things going on here. and there are more and more fans showing up here in las vegas. there's a lot for them to do. obviously, as i'm walking around and seeing a lot of red jerseys, you know, because the chiefs and san francisco forty-niners kind are both rocking the red. but forty-niners fans are coming here. what they should go do is check out the nfl

>> and that energy is still for the most part up in mendocino and humboldt counties. lot of snow so level falling to 4,000 feet in elevation. that means mountains like mount saint as well as the diablo is east of san jose getting a little bit of the white stuff. in fact, if you look really close here on radar, you can see that little spot of purple. that's some rain snow mix on top of mount diablo right now. some of our heaviest of rainfall, few pockets up in the santa cruz mountains. but we do have that heavier area of rain that just rolled through san leandro wasting no time it's moving hayward on over 5.80, san ramon currently there's that little pocket of rain snow mix on top of mount are on top of diablo right now. as for where we're headed this afternoon, cold front swings through cold nature to this system in some nice powder up in the sierra nevada. and we are going to be looking at a rush of stronger winds and heavy rain here within the next 1, 2, to 3 hours. 09:00am here on a future cast about an hour away. rain really picks up in marin and sonoma
8:19 am
counties just after that between 9 to 10 for the rest of the bay rushing through towards the noon hour as well. we'll see spotty showers after that point with peeks of sunshine. don't be surprised if you hear a roll of thunder. hear there. we will continue to see an isolated shower into the early evening. tomorrow looks a lot drier, maybe an isolated sprinkle into the afternoon. but today is the last of our heavier rain days were pretty smooth sailing after this one. rainfall anywhere between a quarter and a half, an inch of rain winds an up of a problem with 40 mile per hour gusts at the coast of a mountain tops that any trees that may be weakened from sunday's storm watch out for and hopefully have an arborist. check out all your trees so far. i wouldn't be parking under the eucalyptus today. as for ford's future cast the snowfall totals a foot to a foot and a half. as we move into the weekend. this is good news for the sierra just enough snow to ski not enough to be closing things down up there. so it's a great weekend to head up to the mountains. temperatures today in the low to mid 50's. it's a
8:20 am
cool one. temps will remain cool into tomorrow but start to climb after that. the weekend looks beautiful with sunshine and low 60's. all right, john, thank you for that. we're off to a start. but now the rain start to fall. highways are slowing down. >> so we're over the north bay along 101 all the way 80 to the east bay, 8.80, and even down to the south bay while 1, 0, and 2.80. so be mindful of that. if you've got somewhere to go, you need to leave the house with some extra time. all the bay bridge right now. we've got everybody with windshield wipers bringing the spiders out as well. 19 min arrive. everybody heading into the city this morning are senate over just short of 30 minutes. so i'm seeing some high winds. some of the vehicles of low back and forth and slick conditions all making for slow and go commute 60 minutes long. 1, one. 85 to menlo park and 8.80, selling a downhill. pete is about an hour there. 5, 80, 80, both pretty backed up through oakland. you might want to take some of the streets to try to navigate around those highways. arias is back to you.

two leading candidates for senate. two very different visions for california. steve garvey, the leading republican, is too conservative for california. he voted for trump twice and supported republicans for years, including far right conservatives. adam schiff, the leading democrat, defended democracy against trump and the insurrectionists.

he helped build affordable housing, lower drug costs, and bring good jobs back home. the choice is clear. i'm adam schiff, and i approve this message. >> a 29 right now and it's raining just not quite what we experienced over the weekend. thankfully. yeah, but a little made. his means a little snow

to which it which is always yeah. john, what do you think? yeah, this is actually going to be a perfect snowmaker because it's a colder system. so we're going to have that light, fluffy snow up in the sierra and just enough of it that it won't block out your travel too much. so definitely a good option there. you can actually see a lot of snowfall following up on the north coast. we're seeing it right up here in upper elevations of lake and mendocino counties likely to see a little dusting on top of some of our mountains in the day like mount diablo, mount saint spots like that, we are seeing some pockets of heavy rain rolling through as we speak. i'm gonna focus first on the one that we have out towards the tri valley right now. this is what you had over oakland moments ago. and it is a quick mover. this is a cold front right here and it is not stalling out rolling across really quickly, which is actually good. severe flooding risk will be minimal here right now over san ramon, we're seeing a pocket of heavy rain, a little upward as far as this one goes, which is the early signs of a thunderstorm developing. we do see dublin out towards livermore. also seeing some moderate showers
8:31 am
on up towards antioch, some spots of moderate rainfall out that way too. little bit calmer right now for the east bay shoreline, north bay conditions starting to pick back up a little bit in this line from peddling. but just north of the of the town of sonoma and further south in the bay, we do have a pocket of heavier showers just east of downtown san jose out towards our rock. so definitely act of this morning. we will see our heaviest of rainfall still on its way, making its way in really between 9 to 10:00am, for most of the bay area. so we're around the corner from it. that's for sure. we'll continue to see heavy pockets of rain on into the late morning into early afternoon just after the morning commute winds down. so that's good news that at least the bulk of the commute got out of the way before the heavier stuff got here. now temperatures in the 30's to 40's right now. oakland, alameda in sf in the low 50's mid to upper 50's this afternoon that are very warmest rain. all right, john, thank you for that. sloan to block our you want to bust

identification and don't be shy about calling the company or organization that they claim to be with to verify that there's actually a crew at your house. police say it's ok to ask that person to leave while you take time to verify their identity. >> the year of the dragon is really about courage and strength in progress. and we're celebrating that progress right here in chinatown. >> yeah, we've been talking a lot about the super bowl. and by the way, the mayor there is wearing but the night before, it's the year of the dragon be welcomed into china town. they've got a huge party planned and all kinds of libya parade. the celebrations are huge and they're making sure that they're safe. that got through a crews throughout the city ramping up their patrols in the area. and the mayor has praised the community for getting the city already for the big festivities saturday night. >> it takes a village and we are now starting to see and feel the difference in places
