oakland all the way down into the upper 30's nevado sitting at 37 while santa rosa just above freezing at 33 degrees right now. so we're definitely looking at some really frigid temperatures to get this morning started for nevada. you're 11 degrees cooler than the same time yesterday. sf a full 10 degrees down from the same time on wednesday. now as we move into the afternoon today, i don't want to completely rule out that chance of an isolated shower. don't be surprised by yourselves. daytime highs will reach the upper 50's. i've got your full forecast for not just game day, but the rest of the week too. all still to come for the roads right now. it isn't easy going. start to the morning. winds are relatively calm roadways and right back out. and that's just going to bode well for you as you are getting your thursday kicked off right now. the richmond sandra fell bridge only 7 minutes to make your crossing. well, the golden gate bridge doing justb fine as well. back over to radar needed that much needed break because in the north

bay, the family in napa, they are grateful to even be alive. >> after a tree crashed onto their home during sunday storm. essentially it's split it in half and also nearly hit a child who was sleeping inside. thankfully, nobody on our 4. sarah stinson has more on that. >> high winds likely caused this tree to come crashing down from one side of the street all the way to the other first crashing into this truck and then onto this home in napa next to a 6 year-old girl sleeping on the couch. >> it was the loudest boom. in the whole house shook, the roscoe family woke up to a tree crashing down on their home on franklin street in napa around 5 sunday morning. jane rasco says she was trapped on one side of the house. her husband and granddaughter on the other. so immediately i yelled to find out if they were okay and my husband was yelling from the other side to make sure i was ok, the tree landed within 2 feet of her 6 year-old

granddaughter miraculously, she was not hurt roscoe and her husband also, okay. you know, you can see all those what ifs, but i am absolutely sure that god was watching over us watching over my granddaughter, watching my husband watching over rasco says they called 9-1-1 and firefighters helped rescue them from the house. rasco says the community has been very supportive there. currently staying with a friend from church. and this is not the first time the roscoe's have lost a home. their house burned down in the tubbs fire back in 2017. so this is not her first brush with adversity. but in that case we could see it coming. you know, we knew it was coming. so we have time to pack. this one is very different. every day is a blessing. every day is a gift. >> this massive trees being removed from the home on thursday. the owner of the house says the city is removing 3 other trees from the street to make sure that this doesn't happen again. i'm sara stinson reporting in napa kron. 4 news.

>> well, one lafayette pg 8 crews. they had to clearly a tree that fell into a power line. this is right along the drive in hammond road about a mile from lafayette elementary school. san francisco crews and a patch of a sinkhole in the mission. look a big that is video sent to us from citizens app shows the whole of 14th street right near guerrero. looks like that one. mazda that tires blown out. police say nobody was hurt. the oakland police department, they fired a probation officer over social media post made nearly 12 years ago. the posts are described as a series races, bigoted and derogatory statements. police say they became aware of the post last friday, the launch an internal affairs investigation. they finally decided to fire that officer alton police say racism and bigotry and are contrary to their core values. well, in the south san jose business owner was arrested

after police say he was selling drugs and of his business. police say they found the pink powder at the business and home. they say the powder is known pink cocaine or pink panther. it's a mixture of several drugs, including academy, meth and cocaine. police did not name the business but said it's right along lawson hill road just off the highway. 85. 2 people arrested in connection to more than 70 retail crime thefts in the bay area. san jose police say jamie flores and thomas suh pinot so they targeted stores like nike best buy target since last july. still more than $75,000 worth of merchandise. police are crediting a retail find grant they receive from the state for the arrest. they go in courtney that they had a vehicle waiting for go in there. you know what, we're going to obviously things like cost more on. so really helps us focus our resources, whether feel the best, a gated for technological resources.

outside. we go because a much calmer one for sure. we're looking outside at what we've got from the east bay hills. those clear skies overhead. nothing getting in the way. your forecast this morning, at least we've got dry conditions all across the bay. rainfall has skated well out just around las vegas. in fact, for the super bowl here in a couple of days. and we do have some snowfall still hanging on in the southern sierra low pressure area out and now behind it. we do see a generally calmer pattern with a high pressure. ridge actually building in from the west. futurecast shows these clear skies this morning. i'm not going completely rule out a chance of an isolatedpshower later on today. we do see it will be brief and very light that would be during the afternoon after that tomorrow, saturday and game day on sunday. all looking nice and dry and clear rainfall today. if we do even see it is going to mount to trace couple drops here and there this afternoon. that's about it for the sierra nevada snow falls and going to be a lot lighter as we roll

towards the weekend. just a few inches of it. it is enough that we still do have a winter weather advisory for yosemite national park southward. not for lake tahoe, though. this year has done a lot of catch-up work from this last few days of heavy snowfall up there. take a look at your latest snowfall estimates northern sierra up above 80% of average for this time of year. the central and southern sierra doing quite well as well. and that is significantly better than where we were just a week or 2 ago. now temperatures in the mid 50's for your highs today. as for what you can expect for vegas on sunday, it is going to be some low 50's for the forecast. highs with mostly sunny skies overhead. not a bad one for the game, but if o% you are heading to the stands, bring all the niners gear and keep nice and cozy sunday, of course, going to be a nice one here in the bay area will be on average about 10 degrees warmer than biggest will be with our highs in the low 60's for the weekend. slight chance of a sprinkle or 2 today and then we're smooth sailing after that. as for the roads,

what we got out there is going to be crystal clear conditions for your morning commute. nothing getting in your way. as far as mother nature is concerned, just taking a little bit slower out there as you're driving through neighborhoods. there are a few areas where branches are still down, mostly just in the city streets in rural areas. as for your highways, you are crystal clear, right? all right, john, thank you for that. well, california leaders, they are stepping up efforts trying to make sure renters are getting the protections they deserve. >> so state attorney general rob bonta says the state has issued 5 consumer alerts directly renters and their landlords, including the alert that is remind ers california law rent cannot go up by more than 10% every year. renters can be evicted without a court order. that alert also says landlords are responsible for repairing health and safety issues in the rental. now they

marriage rights into the state constitution. so while same marriage is legal in california, same marriage rights are not officially enshrined in the state constitution. proposal known as the freedom to marry ballot measure. we change all of that. supporters say the measure is it concerns the united states supreme court could one day overturn its decision to legalize same marriage nationwide. >> we know our freedoms are under sold across the countey. so california, we're going to stand firm and strong and in training the freedom to marry whomever you and love you. don't just have to you can love them as well as we want it in bold in our constitution to say i don't care or a

supreme court. >> in california, you can marry who you want. >> as of now, there's no formal opposition. the measure a simple majority to pass. well, national news, another story day of the u.s. supreme court today. justices are going hear a landmark case whether former president donald trump is eligible for a second run for the white house. washington correspondent reshad hudson gives us a preview that hearing. >> the question before the supreme court today is can former president trump be removed from colorado's primary ballot because of his actions surrounding the january 6 capitol attack? people started lining up yesterday outside of the u.s. supreme court where the 9 justices will debate, whether former president trump is eligible to say on the 2024 ballot. this is a landmark decision and i want to be in the room where it happens to quote, hamilton. the legal battle comes after colorado supreme court ruled in favor of a group of voters who

challenge trump's candidates based on his actions. on january 6. the argue those actions violated section 3 of the 14th amendment which disqualifies officers of the united states who have engaged in insurrection or rebellion from holding office. there are lots of implications for the 2024. >> election. trump's legal team argues he is not an officer of the united states as a former president and that he did not engage in an insurrection. he deserves to be on about the ballot is their argument and voters should decide who becomes the next president and not courts. trump's allies on capitol hill are jumping to his defense. they cannot beat. >> president trump. and an actual free and fair election. so they are trying to rig the game and the courts. the supreme court will be pressured to issue its decision soon because several states start voting next month. >> reporting in washington reshad hudson, back to you.

>> welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news. finally get a much awaited break in the forecast. a good time to get some things done before it starts to rain again by frankly warning yeah this morning. nice and clear. we're not looking at anything out there for your morning drive at least this afternoon. we may see a few isolated sprinkles, but really nothing much on the map today, as you can see across the bay area, things have dried out. >> all that rain and snow is pushed out towards the desert of eastern california. in fact, around las vegas this morning, a little bit of rain and upper elevation snowfall. we are looking at that low easing now. and with that comes just a little bit of a remnant moisture this afternoon. you may see an isolated sprinkle later on today. middle of the day after that, though, we're smooth

sailing in crystal clear on into the weekend friday, saturday and sunday in particular, looking like good days to be getting back outside rainfall totals today. literally just a couple of drops. nothing much to know. as for snow totals in the sierra nevada, things are starting to wind down between now and the start of the weekend. a few more inches of snow can be expected. a winter weather advisory is still in effect for yosemite national park southward. we've done a lot of catch-up work as far as snow pack goes in the sierra from this latest series of systems. now up to 83% of average for this day in the northern sierra central and southern sierra hanging out around 3 quarters of the way there. so this is a huge, huge, huge improvement. really can't say that enough. temperatures today are going to be in the 50's with mid 50's for most of our daytime highs. temperatures will continue to rise into the weekend in for the big game on sunday. looking at low 60's and mostly sunny skies. if you plan on getting outside 2 and a little barbecuing as for the roads, what we've got right

now is still pretty smooth conditions. we will be looking at this traffic fined likely over the next few minutes. but, you know, pick up here in short order. take advantage of our nice, clear, calm conditions for your commute today. but this afternoon, don't be surprised if you do see a couple of raindrops. all right, john, thank you for that update. so we're now just 4 days away. the help from the super bowl. 58. >> the forty-niners have the practice field for the first time this week. all for sports reporter kate rooney has more vegas. >> the forty-niners hit the practice field here in las vegas for the first time this weekend. they made it through practice without much drama, which might be a surprise considering the way the week started with reports of the forty-niners being unhappy with the quality of the practice field at unlv, soggy field, soft grass. meanwhile, the chiefs are over at the raiders indoor practice facility, but they were out basking in the sun and getting the job done. kyle shanahan said it wasn't worth it to him to change the team's practice schedule in order to move over to the raiders practice

facility. i asked a couple of the players what they're still hoping to accomplish this week with a couple more practice days left before the super bowl. here's what they had to say. >> we put a game plan and last week before we got here. so put a little bit more in this morning. so it just kind of this crews get ready for sunday. >> you can always get is something. so i'm glad the playoffs. we have a really big into the body to someone like we know we can pursue play harder like the defense have. you know, we had a a few lapses and pursued effort on some peso this week in practice. every body trying to make it a point to get to the everybody like all 11 on the field, just trying to get to the ballroom floor. you know, i just played we played. kind of let thousands down a little bit postseason, we haven't been living up. no. so i stand and what we built that what i what people expect of us and we expect of myself. so just trying to get you back to that. >> kyle fixes things might change a thing here. there. what's more just like just stay home and we are that we finished the, you know, the 4th quarter lions get

even if you're not a football fan, this is the biggest party of the year for america as people turned out, i've been with people who knew nothing about football, but they love obviously eating and just to get together. and that's been going on obviously ever since that super bowl started and it gets bigger every year. so if you're looking to host a super bowl party this year, good news, bad news. the good news is things did not skyrocket from year to year. something's actually went down or at least flat-lined where you're not paying more this year than you did last year or at least significantly more. so let's talk about price is right. and just the traditional foods that you would have at a super bowl party. so take a look at your screen. people got to have those chicken wings, buffalo wings. if you're going, the fresh route has gone up a little bit. maybe 2 to 5%. >> but nothing massively. you're looking at $3.26 per

fresh chicken wings. if you want to go the frozen route, its $3.17 those things slightly up a little bit again, but not too bad. if you're looking to have shrimp, that's a big deal as well. $8.84 average per pound. and these are just our numbers. reyna. these numbers come from economists like from wells fargo. they did the research. sarah lawrence state that has gone up. now. it's $9 and $0.35 per pound. as far as beer. you've got beer. >> that has flat-lined. it's about a dollar and $0.75 per plight. and then chips, right? we're talking potato chips, chips and salsa. >> it goes up about anywhere between 3 and 6%. so those things have gone up as well. again, nothing massive. the good news is, you know what? you can always have that pot look, we will talk to people as you move along. my tip, tu

for speaking out against a federal monitor has been overseeing the police department. >> his termination really had nothing to do with whether he did anything wrong with as a chief. are actually come in any misconduct? he was actually terminated just because you have the courage to point out the monitor was leveling unfair criticisms that opd and leadership. >> recently, mayor thao has been referred all questions about the firing to the city's attorney's office. however, on the day she fired armstrong, she did reference the federal investigator, attorney michael cardoza, review the claim and says the city of oakland should consider settling and fast. >> i think they've got a strong case here. quite frankly, the mayor should have waited for a vet in a full vetting of the case. a full investigation of this case before she fired. >> well, this is not the first time and it fired oakland police chief has sued the city of oakland. you might remember

andy kirkpatrick who served as chief from 2017 to 2022. also fire termination suit and one. traffic safety advocates are now urging the san francisco police commission to enact a policy the limits racially biased traffic stops. it proposes banning pretext stops for low-level offenses, including failure to display or properly mount your license plates, registration fees, tags and driving with expired registration commission says most of the stops have been focused on black drivers for more than 2 years. the policy has been put on hold. community members sent out a letter to the commission requesting the policy finally move forward for final vote. policy was set to be discussed at yesterday's police commission meeting. university of california optometrist. they're rallying against what they're calling unfair labor practices. so they pick it
