2:03 pm
this was. gail. >> yeah, you can see right here on the big island. so on this 5.0, 7 magnitude quake at 10, 0, 6 local time there. and then you can see just where that orange and red markings are. that's where this earthquake that's where it was it's truck. so even you know, those other islands are able to feel it. so just says the magnitude of this thing. so five-point-seven that's on the moderate scale from minor to major. so we're still learning more trying to gather more details about that. i know we have ups gs on the line. we'll learn more about that. but back to your bay area weather. we mostly sunny skies out there. just a few passing clouds. so we have some really nice weather in store for your weekend. and you can see our radar pretty quiet out there. just few rain drops in southern california and i saw some activity in the vegas area, but nothing crazy. it is chilly in vegas. if you're going the out there traveling for the super bowl. so temperatures right now, these are the daytime right around
2:04 pm
were they are forecast at. so 57 in nevada, 57 in santa rosa. 57 in hayward. so a lot of upper 50's and low 50's along the coast. like places like half moon bay and 54 in mountain view and the south bay. so we're about 2 to 3 degrees warmer in some places, but not a lot of change along the coast and the north bay over there. so wind speeds. we are pretty calm. we just breeze a little light breeze here in point raise, which is normal around this time of day. and then we also have a 10 mile an hour wind reporting over in mountain view. some nothing crazy likely experience. so looking ahead at the rest of your weekend, a nice sunny skies will be warming up to the 60's low 60's. we will be waking up to some chilly temperatures in london. the interior valleys in the low 30's and 40's along the coast. and toss it back to you. grant. we can learn more about that earthquake in hawaii. >> says good gayle. yes, mike poland is standing by his with the usgs. mike, thanks for being with us. my pleasure. anything strike you initially
2:05 pm
about this one? >> it's very widely across the entire state. and dhat's really because the depth of this earthquake, it was over 20 miles deep. and it's in an area that we've seen. a lot of signs missed you the last several that this is the largest sequence in that kind of activity beneath the village of pollen in the south, part of the on the boy. >> no reports of damage or injuries thus far. do you expect that to remain the case? >> probably so. yeah, it will be some light damage. i've seen some reports online of, you know. breakage of, you know, played you know, items in stores and things like that is about what we expect if it were showery might be more intensely felt in the local area. but because it's deep, you feel it little bit less intensely. but you feeling over a much wider area. >> fortunately, this wasn't on or near la who much more populated areas. so you have that going for do you expect anything in the future? i mean, aftershocks are always possible. i know. but given
2:06 pm
the size make history of the region where it occurred. what is your best guess for moving forward? >> well, this sort of event is probably associated with it the way that the island on the ocean floor, which guy was built or on the deep magma plumbing systems the volcano's. it won't have a direct impact on the volcano's themselves. it's too deep for that. but it is a reminder that we see these kinds of earthquakes in hawaii all the time. just a few years ago, there was a magnitude 6.2, only a few miles offshore of the south point of the island hawaii. this is earthquake country. what a magnitude 5, 6, and some of them can be felt statewide. so i think it serves as a reminder that we need to be prepared for size, mississippi and the island of >> always a good reminder there. and here in the bay area, a lot of people like to visit hawaii from the bay. no doubt. so paying close attention. that's mike pullen with us. yes, appreciate your time. this afternoon, mike. my pleasure. thanks very much. all right. well, we are, of course, gearing up for super bowl. 58, the niners taking on

touchdown and streaming the game and they're watching it live. which means i hear their fireworks before the play actually happens. so if you do that, just wait a few seconds before you light up those fireworks. that's just a little plea for me, but hopefully we'll have fun watching the game oh, no. >> all right. we'll try to get in touch with their neighbors out. thanks all right. well, san francisco forty-niners fans are sure getting pumped up to celebrate the super bowl and for people planning to be in the city during and after the game. there are some safety measures that partygoers might want to know about. kron four's terisa stasio joins us live from the newsroom with details there. hey, terry well, grant, if i check in, i go to las vegas, then we can make sure that we mitigate that problem right? >> in the meantime, city leaders holding a very special rally today cheering on the niners and they were front and center. but so is public safety and some very strong advice going into the big weekend for everyone. wanted

>> all right. the beckons judge judy and cardy b, there are just some of the celebs being paid crazy money to push products. super bowl sunday. we know more than 100 million people will be tuning in and many. we're watching mostly for the commercials are maybe only for the commercials and these brands sell out tens of millions sometimes on super bowl ads this year, no exception. a 30nd spot. just 30 measly seconds cost about 7 million dollars. but you create the right buzz for their brand. they also need to blend together a perfect formula. starpower creativity may be the style jet. and sean fletcher, assistant professor of marketing and communications at san jose state university is joining us now. thanks for being with us this afternoon. of course. thanks having me. this is exciting. you've seen i'm sure some of these like a little leaked excerpts of what we're about to see sunday to see a theme for this year. >> i do. i really do. i think
2:20 pm
we're going to see it. and we've we've heard from a number of different marketers and representatives from organizations, but they're likely going to play it safe this i think a lot of folks are the bud light controversy with tiktok influencer dylan mulvaney from last year as a cautionary tale. unfortunately, because i but life for their their attempt at inclusiveness. however, this year we're seeing a lot of teasers dealing with comedy, which is again, not a surprising we're seeing in the nerds brand inter the their foray into the super bowl commercial world with their take last day old throwback youngsters go look it up. a great movie. we're seeing lot of comedy and i think we're going to see a mortar it trend that's really moving in that direction just to play it safe. >> to see a taylor swift affected all of the commercials. >> we're seeing it taylor swift effect overall so some
2:21 pm
recent data came late last week to this saying that the interest of the super bowl overall is around 170% up last year just shy of 2015 was a viewer record with the super bowl. but the same poll also said their relative to last year, viewer interest in commercials is up almost 9, 1, 2%. and i can not hesitate to believe that. the tell us with the fact is is showing itself. >> because of that, i think, you know, we're expecting to see a lot of maybe health beauty i think that women are at the center of a lot of these commercials. probably a dove has a big commercial out about, you know, girls and splaine sports. that's i assume because these businesses think they're going to have a lot of girls and wouldn't have taylor swift wasn't involved.
2:22 pm
>> well, the data has been trending in that all season. and lest let's not mistake anything, this is a very calculated, measured approach. all right. 7 million dollars on average with 30nd spot isn't done. have has really they fully know that viewership. most young girls and the women demographic is up 9% this year. that equates to a lot new eyeballs and interest, not just the game, but also as a marketer's dream. the commercials and the merchandising and everything that is ultimately going to come out of by no means is this have has is a very calculated take that we're starting to see more women driven advertising spots. so what if you like the commercials, you like usher and you like the football would use the bathroom? you know what? that's a tricky proposition that you find yourself. and i think what you end up having to do perhaps when your favorite team doesn't have the ball or even if you look up and maybe it's
2:23 pm
a slow low in commercials that come on because you're not going to see all new ads. some are just going to be rinse and repeat that. you've already seen it was that as you're sort of strategic moment to get up relieve yourself if you need to. and finally, if you can work for any of these brands and put together something special. >> do have a favorite. you can't miss with guy. go one of my favorites. i will say also. >> is a snickers ad. snickers is a sneaky favorite of mine. if you remember the dead. >> when betty white had their second act and and they came out with the campaign, you're not you when you're hungry and they had been a white enable go to plant a flag football game and then to snicker in turn back into the superstar athlete that they originally were. you can't go wrong with comedy geico has really had a position in that role for a couple of decades now. so i would be surprised even if they haven't come up with a teaser, they'll likely so super bowl sunday.
