>> from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at 6. >> now at 6, an investigation continues tonight into just how a florida man allegedly stole a small plane. that later crash landed in half moon bay. good evening, everybody. thank you so much for joining us on part 4 news at 6, i'm vicki liviakis. i'm ken wayne. investigators say the man stole a plane from the palo alto airport somehow managed to fly to a beach near half moon bay. crump was justin campbell talked to an aviation expert about how that person could have flown the plane without being a licensed pilot. >> at the palo alto airport spent friday afternoon repairing a fence that was cut open. investigators believe this is how a man got into the airport thursday night and

stole a plane. san mateo county sheriff's deputies say 50 year-old luis, gustavo aires from florida, stole the 1960's to tom priya plane. >> fluid and crashed it nose down in the sand in half moon bay news from 20 years. and this is a first for me, sergeant javier acosta says deputies arrested aires as he was walking away after crash landing the plane just south of poplar beech. several people were on the beach when the plane came down. no one was injured, could do loops and stuffing that we spoke to aviation expert ross amer who says he could not find aires in the register database of pilots but says aires had to have some knowledge of the plane that they call a tailed wrecker, its heart to fly. it. >> and as you know, you saw the way crashing onto the beach. he probably trying to land on the beach for the details right here. it's kind of hard to prop kind of caught

sand and went down. no he also says the 1960's plane is easy to steal. it may not even have a >> conventional ignition switch. so it's it's easier. basically hot areas was booked and charged with airplane theft reporting in palo alto, justin campbell kron. 4 91 year-old man is dead after being hit by a car in hayward. a police say the crash happened at the intersection of his spear ian boulevard and bartlett avenue yesterday morning. police say the driver is cooperating with authorities and that neither drugs nor alcohol are factors in the crash. this is the word hospital worker is recovering tonight after he was stabbed 9 times. this happened at mills peninsula medical center in burlingame wednesday night. >> authorities say 53 year-old joseph out vr who has a history of mental illness, went to the hospital's emergency room acting strangely and asking for a man dressed in white authorities

say a hospital employee wearing a white surgical gown went up be are asked him if he needed help. that's when authorities say i'll be are pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the employee several times. that employee is expected to survive. meantime, lbr was charged with attempted murder and is in custody without bail. he's set to be appearing in court later this month. >> new gang enhancements have been added to the charges against 3 men charged with murdering retired police officer. kevin, is she she was providing security for kron? 4 news crew at the time of his 2021 killing as kron four's. dan kerman tells us the da's office is also identifying a different man as the alleged shooter. alameda county district attorney pamela price. as after re-evaluating the evidence in the killing of retired police officer kevin nishita. >> she is amended the charges and now the 3 defendants face gang and gun enhancements in addition to murder charges, we have an obligation to get it

right. >> and these charges are consistent with the actual evidence in the case. >> shooter was providing security for a kron for news crew in oakland when he was shot and killed on november 27th of 2021 during an attempted robbery. i have the hope. >> small bit of hope today that charges were worry charges and that it's added a lot more than it had before. but the gang enhancement gives in to shoot his wife. hope she still fears the da could significantly reduce the charges as things stand. now, if convicted of all charges. >> the 3 face sentences of 78 years to life in prison. 151 years to life in prison and 189 years to life in prison. issued his wife says parole should not be on the table. kevin? he doesn't get to come home. >> kevin doesn't get to have birthdays any longer holidays or spent time with the family. i can't hear his voice this into a recording. 3 men should

all be put in for life without parole. the other significant change in this new complaint is it to dana. pfizer recently captured defendant lauren gilbert as the shooter. >> up to this point, co-defendant shuttle mitchell was id. does the shooter and as recently as 2 weeks ago, oakland police still believe that to be the case at the time. >> that the case was presented to die. mitchell was identified as the shooter said we've been in communication with the da's office and at this point, like i said, it's active investigation. but at this point. present were going forward with. should i shoot or the district attorney refused to take questions. so it's unclear what new evidence or office may have uncovered. >> to identify gilbert as the alleged shooter, the 3 defendants are due to return to court on march 8th to face these newly filed charges. in oakland, dan kerman kron. 4

news now to our 4 zone forecast says we talk about friday nights in the city a weekend ahead of what are we what weekend? it's going to be, hey, learns you. can you give us an idea what we're in store for just a few parties going on around the bay area? i think this weekend, especially as we look towards sunday. but >> just in time, high pressure beginning to build in. you saw that today started out cold this morning. even some frost inside the bay, many of the interior valleys now looking good out there toward the skies have begun to part se river. another cold night, there's no getting around that. but it is going to be a dry night. you can see the clouds come from north, almost headed due south. and that's a good sign of high pressure building in up above. and that's going to send most of the storm clouds. well, north of the bay area. that means we're going to clear out your skies tonight and get ready for a beautiful start to the weekend. quite out there right now. the doppler radar, no rain around the bay area. just light breeze, boeing outside the temperatures getting a little bit cool, though. so if you are stepping out, grab a light jacket. 51 degrees right now in napa. it is 53 in

oakland. 54 in san francisco and 53 degrees right now in santa rosa. as we look toward the night tonight, we are going to see a couple passing clouds and then some clearing skies as we head throughout the night and some cold temperatures on tap for the bay area. so if you are heading out tonight, you can leave that umbrella behind no rain in sight, at least for the short term. and then it looks like we have some nice weather overnight tonight and tomorrow. lows will be cold, though. get ready for that. about 35 degrees in santa rosa. 36 in napa about 35 degrees in livermore. so patchy frost showing up and some of the interior valleys again tomorrow morning. maybe even a couple patches inside the down to about 38 in fremont. and 39 degrees in redwood city. after that, we're off and running with some very nice weather. looks like high pressure will build in and stick around for the entire weekend. there is a hint of some more storms headed our way. we'll tell you when coming up in a few minutes. just got the rooms on the way the airport. the

travel rush is on for super bowl. 58. we found a big crowd of niner fans at sfo all day today. >> heading out to las vegas at terminal 2. alaska airlines threw rock purdy party, a block party dedicated to the young forty-niners quarterback. fans say they're confident pretty can help. the team win their first super bowl since 1995. >> i think again, i think he's got the weapons to do it. i think you've got talent to do it. he has been just like joe montana is calm collected. he's a winner and he's going to bring us a win. >> as a surprise bonus for everyone who flew to vegas on flight 13 party's number earlier today, alaska airline gave each passenger free ticket not to the game, but for another alaska airlines flight. we're just 2 days away now from super bowl. 58 niners looking another shot taking on the chiefs again. across sports director jason dumas, it. >> he is in vegas. he talked with brandon. i yoox folks today ahead of the super bowl.

jason, how are they feeling? i earlier today. i got to go to brandon's families, airbnb and talk to them about this journey for brandon. now they told me when brandon was 10 years old, he told them he was going to play in the nfl and he was bent on making that happen. his whole life. the family told me he's worked hard. he's been intentional about everything he did. i went through a family photo album, which was amazing. it

showed brandon sitting in the stands at the 2010 pro bowl in miami. he used to be a running back. he wore number. 21 because damian tomlinson was his favorite player. but he was also a forty-niners fan. growing up. his mom was always a forty-niners fan. he hadn't won all forty-niners gear as a child. so it's a very, very prideful family. and like i said, mom is going to be a little nervous. dad said he's got his confidence from his son brandon. so he will be there loud and proud. all in all. they're just thankful for this journey that their son is >> you coming with coming up all started. was in. >> nevada and would come back for the big one in nevada is so amazing. yes, so hard. and it's it's like okay. your time you get a reward. and we will you see on how to work

your election headquarters. democratic senate candidate adam schiff was. >> in san francisco today unveiling a housing plan. he spoke at the new asia supermarket in the city's chinatown, which is set to be converted into affordable housing. schiff says he's pushing for a bill that would invest over a billion dollars over 5 years to a group that helps state and local governments develop affordable housing. partnerships that are putting. >> a project like this on the map. woodley on the map or

gathered for a town hall in the chinatown area. our own stephanie lin moderated the event wednesday night's discussion focused on district 3 which covers notable areas including fisherman's wharf, union square, the financial district and chinatown. the key topic of the night, fair language. access candidates were asked how they would bridge the language gap for the city's tens of thousands of immigrant residents. their included community danny solder, business owner maps aske deputy city attorney joe jameel homeless advocate j connor. be ortega and former city commissioner sharon lay the election for the board of supervisors is still months away in november, but the race is already on whoever wins the seat replaces board. president aaron peskin who is turning out of the job. in national news tonight, the white house

is defending the president after a big gaffe during the news caps are washington correspondent basil john reports. the good news for the white house is the president will not face criminal charges over his handling of classified documents. >> but the bad news is the president's performance at last night's news conference created more problems than it solved. the white house is in full damage control mode today after a he still called presidential news conference last night that went it started well, i was pleased to see the reached a firm conclusion. >> that no charges should be brought against me in this case. but it quickly degenerated your question in a q and a session with reporters. >> president biden attacked special counsel robert hur's description of the president as a quote, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory. when asked about feeling public confidence in his judgment that judge they that is your judgment public.

method of travel. but >> only 20% of people say they have a great deal of confidence that airplanes are being properly maintained. the poll was conducted after an accident last month on an alaska airlines flight in which a door panel blew off midair. now to our 4 zone forecast. let's give you a live look outside people sitting in traffic. yeah, a bridge copeland. we've been hearing from some of those people. they say the metering lights are on. i guess a lot of people want to come to the city and to celebrate the niners getting ready, right? all you got to do super bowl preps. yeah. i mean, you've got to get ready to go. we've got a long weekend ahead. the weather turned out. >> to be very nice today. so things are all adding up to what looks like a fantastic weekend ahead, especially compared to what we had last weekend. so out the door tonight, we are seeing skies clearing out the temperatures going to be little bit cold up there in spots looking out towards sfo. there been some issues at sfo. not to the weather, though. this is due to some construction out there on the runway. so delays. 28 minutes. they're almost half

an hour. oakland, no delays being reported there. san jose. no delays either folks are headed out to vegas. here we go. you're getting forecast in the monterey bay. look at temperatures in the 50's and the 60's. you see the areas shaded in blue. those are frost advisories for tomorrow morning. so a chilly start the day, but mild by the afternoon, southern california been dealing with all the rain earthquake today. this weekend, though, some nice sunshine to make returns. 65 degrees in anaheim. if you're headed to the high country, should be some beautiful weather. they did have a few more snowflakes up there today. but now the roadways going to be open and cold up there, though. highs only in the 30's mid 30's southlake all 39 in truckee over the weekend. looks like high pressure going to build in and temperatures to warm up. maybe 10 degrees on sunday and monday. still on the chilly side and well, it looks like across the state. the weather is looking great. in fact about 63 degrees in reading. if you're headed in that% direction, about 57 degrees in bakersfield and 61 in sacramento. and just so, you know, of course, just a couple weeks ago, they're taking some snow surveys and what it was

looking pretty grim. i love about half of normal for the snowfall for much of sierra nevada and then mother nature kind of unleashed. and now we're sitting at 83% of normal in the northern sierra nevada. 74% of normal in the central and the southern sierra 73% of normal. so we're catching a much needed break, but it looks like we're going to get back to some very wet weather and a lot more snow on the way. but right now, let's enjoy that sunshine this weekend. next weekend will likely be an entirely different yeah, okay. but you know what? >> it's it's all set. it's also going good this weekend. yeah, solid. no power line to get any out. yeah, it's going great and you can see the game, ok? florida coming up. francisco is going to be filled with 40 niner faithful fans. this super bowl weekend. >> we'll break down. all you need to know to navigate great party, carlene. need to know to navigate around the city.

two leading candidates for senate. two very different visions for california. steve garvey, the leading republican, is too conservative for california. he voted for trump twice and supported republicans for years, including far right conservatives. adam schiff, the leading democrat, defended democracy against trump and the insurrectionists. he helped build affordable housing, lower drug costs, and bring good jobs back home. the choice is clear. i'm adam schiff, and i approve this message.
