park in the east bay. now police are trying to figure out who did it and why. a busy street in los altos is reopening this morning after the area was closed down for months, demolished a building and forty-niners fans have been devastated by the outcome of the big game this morning. but many say they're hopeful that the odds will be in their favor next season. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 6. >> good morning and thanks for joining us on a >> super down monday. yeah, i wore black. that's why i mean, it was all good game just set a bad and but there's always next year. and that's what effect fans are holding on to a lot more on that story coming up. and the weather's looking up, at least it hold this john. they yeah, it definitely is holding this morning. so if it's a little harder to get out of bed this morning, at least you know, you're getting up to a day that is going to bring a good dose of sunshine specially towards this afternoon.

>> we're sitting right now. we do have some fog shrouding parts of the bay area, including this view of downtown san francisco with the transamerica pyramid. they will be covered up with that fog this morning. dense fog advisories for portions of marin, sonoma and napa counties over the next couple of hours here. now visibility is falling for a few spots in the north bay and a few foggy areas along the bay shore, too. just to keep your eye on and do anticipate some of that low visibility as you're heading down 101 highway. 37 and on up in 80 in solano county, temps range from the 30's to 40's this morning. later on today, it will be 50's to 60's a comfortable and seasonable afternoon. there will be some rainfall later on in this forecast and i'll get to that. still to come over to rain. all right. take advantage of those dry conditions before the rain gets here today. big story this morning, the fall, definitely visibility impacted because of that. >> 14 minute ride into the city meter lights are on as you're traveling on the bay bridge, 70 over just short of

the forty-niners best player trent williams. and then another false start right before the penalty and all of those plays got the forty-niners out of rhythm. and then we know the really costly fumble later in that game. it came on a punt and then the kansas city chiefs scored on the next play, flipped the momentum of the game. really? that's the story of the game. the forty-niners could never get a rhythm tpbecause of all those penalties. and those 2 fumbles in kansas city took advantage of it. and that's where we are. don't care how you lose when you super bowls, especially when think you can pull off. it hurts. know you when you're in the nfl, i think every team should hurt except for one of we've gotten pretty close, we haven't pulled it off and >> we're hurting right now. but doesn't take away from how proud of our guys i am. i'm real proud of them today, too.

because you had to stay through the whole thing last night gets playing out this morning over at the vegas airport. they're thinking about 300,000 visitors. that was the estimate arrived for the big game. likely that most are traveling home today. so it will be busy sfo. >> okay. in other headlines this morning at 605, a major section of l coming to reality in los altos has finally re-opened the yeah. that was areas close since because it was a building that caught fire there and they had to demolish it michael thomas live in los altos. what's happening out? >> hey, good morning, everyone. well, they actually are just opening up the road right now behind me. i'm at the corner of camino, real and san antonio. but take a look. we've got a map up on your screens. you can see exactly where we we are at excuse me know when it comes to those road closures since christmas, it's been closed between san antonio eastbound lanes all the way up to sherwood. and

again, it was an early morning christmas fire. we've got video of it up on your screen. it happened at around 5 o'clock in the morning. took out a 20,000 square-foot commercial building and that building there were multiple businesses, including a dance studio and sat prep school and a hair and nails along amongst others as to what caused that. we're still learning those details. but we've also got video of when that building was being demolished. that's just how severe the fire was. again, a 3 alarm fire and the development took place about 3 weeks ago. the roads here again, though, have been closed for almost 2 months. in fact, take a look. this is that moment when they finally started to take off those road, closure signs and open the road back up was set to open at 6 o'clock this morning. so just about 6 minutes ago and they did open to maybe about 10 minutes earlier. so so back out here live again, el camino real out those eastbound lanes are flowing through. as of right now, there's still a couple of cones in the area when it comes el camino. real before to get to san antonio road. but they're working to just finished taking those off of

right that's a very latest here in los altos to michael thomas story. james, we'll send it back to you. all right. thank you for the update. michael. >> time now 607. and police in san leandro now are investigating 2 deadly shootings. one that happened friday night and the other that happen on thursday. officers responded to reports of a shooting on east 14th street right near 150st avenue in the ashlon neighborhood that happened at about 9.40 friday night. they say that a man and a woman both in their 40's were found suffering from gunshot wounds. official shared this picture from the scene. they say that a woman had a mobility issue both victims were taken to the hospital. that woman, unfortunately did not survive. and then on thursday night, a teenage boy was shot and killed on 100 70th and clinton avenues. also in ashland, it happened just after 5, 30 in the evening. police found that victim with a gunshot wound to his head. he died at the scene. >> time now 6, and today community members plan to rally against the installation

of a new immigration court in concord. the new court is located at gateway boulevard near clayton road. and highway 2 for 2. and rights advocates and attorneys say they want solutions that do not prioritize the deportation and the separation of families. they are planning to rally there at noon time now is 6, and tonight or into educators. they're going to be holding a rally of their own. they have been bargaining with the school district for some time since august. they want more salary benefits, resources for students they have been unable so far to reach an agreement that rally is that the board of trustees meeting at the are in the district tonight at 5.30. >> well, kron 4 is your local election headquarters. and tonight we're hosting the second u.s. senate debate right here on set at kron 4. and inside california politics hosts frank buckley and nicky lorenzo have a preview. we are hosting a critical debate tonight and the u.s. senate

southbound 2, 4, 2 near concord. it was yesterday morning, a bmw and a ford crash and the person driving the ford ended up dying. a man was found stabbed to death at a pleasant hill park friday night. he was a member of the janitorial staff that have been working in that park. he was found when actually his wife went to look for him because he didn't come home after ship. san francisco firefighters helped to rescue a child stranded on the side of a cliff. look at this. this happened saturday evening at fort funston and they had u.s. helicopter and air lift that child to safety. the martinez refinery company experiencing another release that happened saturday. hazmat team say they have not found evidence that the coal dust was in the surrounding neighborhood, but there was a toxic release. >> checking bay area weather now before you head out the door here at 6.15 this morning, it is. >> clear. little chilly. yeah.

yeah. and i didn't have the best view this morning. took the dogs clouds, yeah. that fog especially for the north bay blocking things out there as you're not the best view view from a san francisco right now, you can only see part of the transamerica building. so definitely watch out for some of those foggy spots, especially further north. we do have dense fog advisories for portions of marin, sonoma and napa counties this morning and watch your travels up. what one? 37 i-80. all these areas seeing some fog on them, especially north of the carquinez in the golden gate radar. otherwise this showing dry conditions. we have some passing clouds this morning, but a mostly sunny afternoon. we're really clearing out this afternoon. going make for another gorgeous day, much like we had on saturday and sunday and still very much so dry for the start of this week. that doesn't begin to shift a little bit towards the middle of the week, though, especially come wednesday night. that's valentine's day. valentine's day time hours going to stay dry. but that evening starts to get a little

committee members met not in sacramento, but here at west hollywood city hall. the goal to bring balanced effective solutions. >> to deal meaningfully with these issues will continue to live. listen to every stakeholder. speaker events has asked us to do among the stakeholders who spoke. >> members of law enforcement, including the head of the california highway patrol. it's interesting. we call this organized crime. >> it's time for law enforcement and the legislature and the prosecutors to get organized on the separate to one thing he says has worked form a partnership between chp and the california retailers association. a partnership that since 2019 chp credits with 2,300 investigations, more than 2,200 suspects arrested and 750,000 stolen items recovered worth a combined 41 million dollars. this is one of the best examples of private public partnership as we tackle this together. the hearing comes just months after the public policy institute of california released data showing retail

crime overall is up in recent years. but shoplifting actually is 8% below what it was pre pandemic levels. still many small business and retail shop owners who spoke at the meeting say they believe the latest statistics are simply not accurate. due to one major reason that he's become normalized. so we've just stopped reporting it. many blame prop 47. >> passed by california voters in 2014. the law change certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, including theft when the items stolen are valued at less than $950. >> while supporters have long argued the law will help reduce california's prison population and lead to criminal justice reform opponents to this day say prop 47 emboldened criminals to take part in certain crimes like retail theft, with little to no punishment least. listen to the retailers. >> what they feel and what they're going to. they're going through still. others who spoke cautioned lawmakers about overturning prop 47. we cannot simply arrest. >> and incarcerate our way to the global safety we all

>> it's 6.23 and the north bay. a woman was arrested for fighting a 74 year-old man for his vehicle. 41 year-old crystal hogan of clear lake. he's accused of robbery attempted vehicle theft, preventing in 9-1-1. call elder abuse and resisting arrest. she asked the sebastopol man for a ride as he was walking to his vehicle. and when he refused, she pushed him away from the vehicle, struck him in the chest, climbed into his car. could started, though. and then as he attempted to call 9-1-1, she grabbed his cell phone and took off and she was later pointed out by witnesses and arrested. the man was not hurt. in berkeley. a group that advocates is against the development of people's park and they gathered yesterday for a day of painting and music and poetry. this is

along the area that's walled-off of cargo containers for the project to build housing for berkeley they're against that plan. the mural reads, there are many heart buried at people's park. >> well, that's another round of layoffs from another large tech company. according to reuters. now san jose bay, cisco is planning to lay off thousands of employees. however, official announcement isn't expected until next week when cisco holds its earnings call. one source says that cisco still right now determining how many employees to let go. the company has about 85,000 employees in total as of the 2023 fiscal year. cisco says it is shifting its focus now to higher growth areas like cybersecurity. 6.25. is the timing. coming up on the kron 4 morning news. investigators are trying to figure out how a man was able to steal a plane. >> from palo alto, we're going hear how they believe game access.

>> take the time use those low beams about 14 minutes of the bay bridge meter lights are no accidents there. but again, visibility not the best. 14 minute 80 to 101 san mateo bridge just short of a 13 minute ride. so we're picking up just a little bit. not terrible delays on the golden gate bridge. you can see visibility not the greatest. 19 minute ride. 37 to the tolls. all right. james, back to you. thanks a lot. rain is 6.29. let's get to a big story that we're following this morning out of pleasant hill. >> where police are investigating a brutal killing happened there in the east bay. police say a park worker was stabbed to death. his body was found saturday morning kron four's amanda hari. now with more on the story. >> the people i spoke to were stunned that a man was stabbed to death in this parking lot near a usually peaceful park. police say the man was working at the time and his wife was the one who found him. >> frightening actually really disturbing. pleasant hill.

residents reacting to a brutal killing near a pleasant hill park. investigators say the victim, 37 year-old santiago to cobo of pittsburgh was stabbed to death while working in the parking lot next to the park. tracey dimming as wasn't alone in her surprise. i can't even imagine what what want to say. something like that. what could be? >> you know, motivation risen for somebody to i commit such a crime, heinous crime like that try to cobo was a janitorial worker for the park. police say they're still investigating a motive. >> and last night >> to wrapping up the did not return home, but that's when investigators say his wife became concerned. his wife drove to the park and found him on the ground there and start cpr. after she called 9, 1, to be able to come and see her husband dead on the ground is like? >> well, as just >> gives you shivers. dominguez says she's lived in pleasant hill for 40 years and

brings grandkids, the park all the time. she's always seen it as a safe place buy unit. frankel says she keeps thinking about what happened and hopes to get more answers just keep wondering if it when >> somebody that knew him. i guess will find out more about police say they have no suspects at this time and they're asking the public to come forward if they have any information in pleasant hill and harry kron, 4 news. >> san francisco chaos breaking out in chinatown amid lunar new year. celebrations want to waymo car was set on fire saturday night police say a crowd wrote graffiti on the car broke a window and then

threw fireworks inside. setting the cars. you can see here a blaze. thankfully nobody was inside. no injuries were reported. no arrests have yet been made. in the north bay. emergency crews rushed to the scene of a house fire in fairfield yesterday. you can see from these pictures it was a lot of smoke and flames coming out of that home on saint andrews drive. firefighters say there were no injuries. the cause is still under investigation, but crews say it appears that it was accidental. take a look at this truck >> it's full of stuff that the sanibel police say was stolen from a roofing supply company. while there are lot of supplies packed into the end of that pickup truck, police went to the company's yard cause. the alarm system was going out friday night. and thieves try to take off in his truck. but an officer ended up arresting them. the stolen goods valued at about $4,000. 2 men were arrested in a layover stealing hundreds of dollars worth of legos, which

is one package not getting. legos are really expensive, though. here's what happened. it was a store near 80 and redwood parkway and there was a guy who was getting away with 9 onder dollars worth of legos when the story called the police, the police got there. they found him. he was at the solano county fairgrounds, refused to stop. and that led to a chase. and that chase did. and when passenger jumped out of the car and then he was found hiding in a backyard and arrested and the driver eventually lost control, ended up crashing near mississippi and sacramento streets. and he was arrested too. take a look at the pictures of legos. this officer giving thumbs up here the legos that were recovered. one of the thieves confessed to actually what they do is they say they steal and they sell these lego sets for cash because like i said, legos, a really expensive their valuable and they never go on sale. 900 bucks worth of legos right there. all right. 6.34 is the time in other news we're following this morning.

at least one person was killed sunday morning and 2 car crash. this was southbound. >> 2.42 near concord. chp says it happened about 7.30, in the morning. investigators say a bmw suv with 4 crashed into a ford sedan. the driver of the ford died at the scene. the driver of the bmw was not hurt. the crash is still under investigation. meanwhile, developing news now, another accidental coke dust release has happened out at the martinez refinery, contra costa health officials say it happened about 01:00pm on saturday. coke dust is a byproduct of the roof of a refining petroleum and hazmat team say they haven't fo-nd any evidence of the koch dusting in the surrounding neighborhoods. but this does come weeks after the committee released the results of an independent investigation that found 8 main causes for the release. that happened back on thanksgiving of 2022, the committee plans to meet again in march. meantime, flaring at the chevron refinery in richmond prompted an emergency

response. fire crews say that flaring was first reported about 8.40 saturday morning. it lasted about 5 minutes. officials say there were no risks to the public health. >> san francisco firefighters you can see here rescuing a child stranded off the side of a cliff. this was at fort funston and this happened when the child fell down. the cliffside there saturday night airlifted to safety and not hurt. so that's good. walgreens is closing another location in downtown san francisco to 75 sacramento street. that walgreens is going to close. >> on february 27th. and as you know, this isn't the first one. there been months we've seen various walgreens be shuttered. there's a store in gary and taylor near union square that closed up a walgreens is that there was a difficult decision, but

southern california lawmaker wants to make sure that people are safe when they're riding those electric bikes. you've probably seen a lot of kids writing that will now they're looking to ban children under the age of 12 from be able to ride those bicycles. the assembly member named tasha borders. want to introduce this bill, which has 3 major points. the main theme to educate so that people better understand traffic rules when the writing these the also would have an age limit. nobody could ride it the younger than 12 years old. it's a up called the class of an e-bike. that's how they would categorize it. anybody over 12 without a driver's license would have to take a special eve safety training course and pass an online written test and they also need a state issued id in order to operated e-bike first-time violators would get community service, not a ticket or a fine. >> data from chp shows a steady increase in electric
