at 11. >> good evening, everybody. thanks for being with us tonight on kron. 4 news at 11, i'm grant lotus and that stand and i'm noelle bellow continue as crime oakland restaurant is frustrating its workers, the general manager at a gob, a uptown says they've recently been dealing with a barrage of break-ins. and the most recent crime was early this morning. and you saw him once you see him again called for thor here with us in studio. he spoke with the general manager. dan.

i mean, how much can these folks take? yeah, it's going to be difficult to sleep at night, right? the dia general manager telling us that the restaurant has been broken into. >> 3 times over the last 3 weeks and nearly 2 dozen times since the restaurant first opened it. and they say that the constant crime is frustrating and it's just making their employees and customers feel unsafe. >> another break-in caught on camera at agave uptown in oakland security video shows the latest burglary from around 5 thursday morning. you can see a man ripping open the front doors of the restaurant after breaking a lock. he then calmly pockets. a couple of bottles of liquor before leaving restrooms are dying little by little with >> with this type situation. and this has this has to stop. >> the restaurant's general manager osvaldo sanchez says these types of crimes are happening far too often. each one costing the small business

thousands in repairs and lost inventory all the while, putting workers on edge. we have around 40 employees. >> that really with this type of situation where like we could hit so many times. you know, late and we don't know what's going to happen agave uptown suffered a major break in last summer when thieves stole $10,000 in cash and expensive bottles of liquor. >> sanchez says since opening in 2016, the restaurant has dealt with nearly 2 dozen break-ins and not one has been resolved for sanchez calling the police has not helped. that is no point for me to a waste. any time trying to >> and township police department are trying to make the reporting that happened. he says they want to stay on 22nd in broadway, in oakland, for their customers and the community. but city leaders need to listen to their calls for help. we just need support. so we need. and we need to be heard.

>> sanchez says that the business has made some changes to help with the theft such as out going cashless. and he says his city leaders continue to drag their feet on solutions. the best way to community can help is by going to the restaurant and giving them business in studio. dan thorn kron. 4 news. dan, thank you. new at 11 menlo park. police are crediting a community member for calling 9-1-1. >> after spotting something suspicious today, police say the call led to the arrest of a man who they say was carrying an assault rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest. the man has since been identified as a 34 year-old from san mateo officers took him into custody in the area of o'brien drive and kavanaugh drive. you're looking here at about 10 pounds of methamphetamine. a canine deputy found them during a traffic stop in petaluma yesterday after learning the driver had a misdemeanor arrest warrant out of mendocino county. according to sonoma county sheriff's

office. the found the drugs in dog treat boxes and a cat litter box. the driver was arrested but has since been released from jail. proud pup. they're waymo is disputing claims by san mateo county officials that the company failed to properly. >> communicate its plan to expand outside of san francisco in an email sent out today with the leaders say that they conducted outreach briefings with dozens of public and private stakeholders since san mateo county last week, the county's attorney sent a letter to the california public utilities commission asking it to reject waymo's request for an expansion because of the lack of communication. the controversy stems from a county resolution passed this week that would give local governments final say over driverless car services as of right now, that decision is up to the dmv and the cpu c.

>> as we head in toward early on saturday morning. the rain going to make return. expect some gusty winds, maybe an all day rain event on saturday the door right now, though, partly cloudy skies continue. temperatures dropping off 40's and 50's right now. i think look toward friday, not a bad day outside. you see high pressure sneak in here. just long enough to hold that system abe. and that means we'll see some mild temperatures. in fact, by tomorrow afternoon, some spots getting close to 70 degrees. we'll show you where coming up in a few minutes. thanks, lawrence. new details tonight in the murder. suicide at that san mateo home. investigators have identified the gunman. >> as a non hendry, his wife, elise, ben singer, and there twin boys, nathan and know all 4 were found dead in their home monday during a welfare check. police estimate the family members had been dead for a couple of days. by that point. investigators say they believe the father shot his wife multiple times before shooting himself in a

bathroom. the twins were found in a bedroom in the home. the children's cause of death remains under investigation as they had no signs of physical trauma. linkedin accounts indicate henry worked in tech as did his wife, too, was a data science manager at zillow. police say there's no history of violence at the home and they're working to try to figure out a motive. >> it costs almost $9 right now with fast tracked across the golden gate bridge is a live look there tonight. transit officials held an online open house about a proposed toll hike for the bridge. transit officials say raising the bridge tolls would address a 220 million dollars shortfall expected over the next 5 years. transportation officials say bridge traffic is still down following the pandemic and transit ridership is still just 50% of pre-covid levels, which is meant to decrease in revenue of about $900,000 a week while the transportation district did receive federal funding to

help during the pandemic, that money will be running out this year. >> in the past bridge tolls funded half the cost of the district's bus and ferry transit services post penn post-pandemic due to an overall decline in revenues. tolls are only funding about 35% of the cost of operating transit services. >> for toll increase options were presented tonight. the first is an annual increase of $0.50. the second is a $0.40 annual increase. the 3rd was a 4% annual increase which would break down to a 35 40 $0.45 increase over time. and the final option is a $0.35 annual increase. all of these would raise between 100 million 140 million dollars over 5 years. the toll rate would remain lowest for fast track users, which is the vast majority of golden gate bridge drivers. and in response to the possible bridge toll hike san francisco assemblymember phil ting introduced a new bill

today. >> he wants to make sure the bridge stays free for people walking or biking across all state bridges. >> at a time when we're dealing with climate change, we're trying to get encourage more people to wall. will people to i can't think of a greater disincentive for and actually charging runs in cycles across one of the most famous bridges in our world. >> in 2014, the bridge district considered charging a fee for walking or biking across the golden gate. king says his measure would ensure tolls of that kind would be off the table permanently. hearings on the measure are expected to begin this spring. people looking to submit their opinions about the bridge toll hike options can do so in a number of ways either online at golden gate dot org. there's also a public hearing scheduled for next thursday. that's february 22nd in the >> room. the boardroom of administration building.

>> oakland officially has not had a police chief for an entire year a year ago today. mayor sheng thao fired. then police chief leronne armstrong. crime was already on the upswing at the time. and that trend. >> unfortunately, has only continued kron four's. rob nesbitt now has more on why the city is still without a

permanent chief. >> i've been on the council since 2013 and i've seen already. 8, 9 police cheese, oakland city councilmember noel gallo has witnessed the revolving door of police chiefs in oakland. >> thursday marks one year since mayor sheng thao fire on armstrong from the role. but i am no longer confident that chief armstrong can do the work needed to achieve the vision. so today. i have decided to separate from chief leronne armstrong from the city without cause. mayor thao says a lack of confidence that armstrong's ability. >> came after a report from a law firm working for the federal monitor. robert warshaw, the report alleged mishandling by armstrong of to officer misconduct cases. the city has been subject to federal monitoring for the last 2 decades. and armstrong has filed a lawsuit against the city claiming he was fired retaliation for speaking out against warshaw attorney. will edelman is representing armstrong in the case when somebody engages in some type

of activity that's protected. one of the one of the bases here is the first amendment's right to free speech. and another is reporting misconduct. your employer can't terminate you just because you're engaged protected activity. that's exactly what the chief is alleging happened here. both city council members declined to comment thursday because of the ongoing lawsuit between armstrong in the city. but gallo continues to be a supporter of armstrong and would like to see him reinstated as the city's police chief citing his ability to bring in extra resources when we needed to reach out to whether it's the fbi or the highway patrol or the county sheriff, he was able to coordinate that and do that reporting the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> take a look at this. investigators say they found hundreds of weapons, including 11 assault weapons machine guns. more than 100 handguns. about a million rounds of ammo. all inside one guy's home lives enrichment. attorney general rob bonta's office says the man was not legally allowed to have guns. he has since been taken into custody.

>> well, snow is once again piling up in the high sierra. valentine's day storm that we got yesterday drop several inches over the sierra passes. gusty winds made it difficult at times for drivers over donner summit last night. but caltrans, a plow drivers were hard at work. keeping an eye. >> on i-80 in keeping an open. meanwhile, skiers and snowboarders say they are loving the fresh powder boreal mountain resort. >> was open until 8 o'clock last night. >> so nice to some good snow come in and also we get in california, obviously just as long as you take it, easy on the roads. be smart. >> we okay. >> if you are planning to head up to the snow this president's day weekend, the national weather service is advising you bring chains, especially if you don't have a four-wheel drive with snow tires. kron four's a chief meteorologist lawrence karnow is here to tell you about how difficult is actually going to

be to get up there this weekend? yeah, you know, it may be easy to get up specially if you leave tomorrow. >> going to be tough. get back, though. i think is we're going to see a series of significant storms impacting other bay area. much of the sierra nevada. we're going to see those begin to roll in. well, some pretty impressive totals in just over the last 24 hours. yeah, some of the ski resorts not bad at all. some places. yeah. over a foot. almost a foot and a half inch of snow. the boreal donner ski summit, 17 inches, 14 inches mount rose palisades 12 foot of snow and kirkwood 9 inches. so, yeah, it was nice up there to see that. but now a clear things out a bit. you see 15, 80 looking good if you're traveling that way tonight or tomorrow, not bad by a saturday that all changes winter weather advisories are going up starting on saturday morning continue till sunday. likely going to see some winter storm warnings head up over the sierra nevada this weekend, too, and probably extend well into next week. so we'll see a lot of snow as we head toward the middle of next week in some of the models now painting as much tooth to 3 feet of snow. maybe some

places about 4 feet or more toward mammoth lakes. so that's a lot of snow in the high country. this will be the first system that comes on shore over the weekend. this one moving in, especially on saturday that bringing with a lot of rain in the bay area and a lot of snow in the high country to but it will be knocking on the door by tomorrow night. maybe a few scout showers as we head toward midnight tomorrow night. really the brunt of this comes through all day long on saturday. that rain really just going to keep going on and off throughout the day with some gusty winds, 30 to 40 miles an hour. and then quickly followed by another powerful storm coming in late in the day on sunday into monday. so you get these storms that close together and well, the water really didn't have a chance to drain out from all the creeks in the street is back in the ocean and then we have to start worried about the possibility of some flooding. so the rain is going to continue. looks like on and off throughout the middle of the week. then we'll catch a little bit of a break. but boy, this holiday weekend, it is going to be rough going around much of the state far as rainfall is concerned. yeah, we're talking 4, maybe 6 inches. rain across the mountain peaks in the north bay into the santa cruz mountains. lesser amounts

further south as you make your way in the bay. but still moyes going to be some kindtof stormy weather. so we've gone through that nice spring weather to now. looks like a nice day tomorrow, maybe about 69 degrees in san jose. but after that, everything begins to change. rain begins to move back in may be some thunderstorms on monday and tuesday of next week. so yeah, it's time we're getting back into it. here is winter again making a return. >> it's time. i feel like it's been it's time for spring is what they're telling them. we're waiting patiently a little longer. thanks, a popular water park, speaking of warmer temps, raging waters in san jose. good news is set to reopen this summer. >> after a close maybe for good last september, the city of san jose's made a deal with california dreaming entertainment, which operates a water park near sacramento to reopen raging waters. the new operator will invest that 6 million dollars into the park, which will go towards improving landscaping and adding new attractions. the

park will not only be a win for residents, but also for san jose because the city will collect about 6% of any revenue. once the park reopens. >> the a's were back at the table with officials from oakland and alameda county today discussing a lease extension of the coliseum. we don't know exactly what was said during the meeting. in a statement. the a's, though, say we had a positive one. we look forward to further discussions regarding a lease extension at the coliseum. the a's current lease will expire at the end of the year, but their new stadium in vegas is at least 3 years out. the a's have been visiting a variety of minor league ballparks in hopes of playing there during the interim years. former a's executive andy do lunch says he hopes local officials tell the a's a definite no unless the team decides to stay in oakland permanently. >> this is about the a's and keeping them in oakland and having mayor sheng thao and others around her. not just
