>> right now on the kron, 4 morning news and oakland restaurant manager speaking up now after the businesses targeted by thieves 3 times in the last month. waymo is fighting back against claims made by officials on the peninsula as they try to ban the service in their cities and a meeting between the a's president and oakland officials. it could keep the a's in the town for at least a few more years. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 6. >> good morning and thanks for waking up with us friday and i'm james. yeah, let's start this morning with a check of the weather. we've got john with a look at our forecast for this friday and raindrops on the way for the weekend morning. yeah. today is going to be the drive one tomorrow. not so much. in fact, our wettest one consistently saturday from start to finish. expect some rain fall for it. so you didn't want to get outside. today is certainly not a bad choice for it. we're looking outside at some pretty dry conditions this morning. your view from mount tam does

have a touch of low clouds here and there. but most of the clouds is sitting aloft. and that is just going to make for overcast to mostly cloudy afternoon ahead of us, we're sitting on satellite radar. you can definitely see where storm number 2 is. storm number one was middle of this past week. there's the center circulation right here. little bit of cloud cover in advance of the storm itself. but all that moisture sitting offshore is going to be sent our way as a very strong jet. just brings multiple systems our direction. in the meantime, today is just going to be a comfortable cool afternoon with some highs back in the 60's. right now it's low 50's from hayward, oakland over to san francisco. some 40's across the north bay futurecast shows that mild and dry conditions were made this afternoon. lots of 60's today. tomorrow is round 2 of rainfall. and then around 3 arrives later in the day on sunday for monday and tuesday of next week. i'll be talking more in your forecast as we go, james. all right. thank

you. got a quick check of the roads this morning. we've got the bay bridge looking pretty good drive time. just 10 minutes to get from oakland to san francisco. all's well so far. >> we've got the san mateo bridge showing a little more volume here in the last half hour or so. but still just 12 minutes to cross from hayward out to foster city. we're looking at a nice ride here. westbound 5.80, just 8 minutes to get from richmond out to sandra fell volume building, but still no backups at the toll plaza. and then a final check for you. the golden gate bridge where we're looking at about a 90 minute drive from nevada down into san francisco. time now 6, 0, won and continuing crime at an oakland restaurant is frustrating workers and managers. yeah. in fact, the general manager of agave uptown says that they've recently been dealing with a rash of break-ins. the most recent one happened. >> early yesterday morning because of all this kron four's. dan thorn says that had it. >> another break-in caught on camera at agave uptown in oakland security video shows the latest burglary from around 5 thursday morning. you can see a man ripping open the

front doors of the restaurant after breaking a lock. he then calmly pockets. a couple of bottles of liquor before leaving restaurants are dying little by little with >> with this type situation. and this has this has to stop. >> the restaurant's general manager osvaldo sanchez says these types of crimes are happening far too often. each one costing the small business thousands in repairs and lost inventory all the while, putting workers on edge. we have a full employees. >> that really with this type of situation where like we could hit so many times. you know, late, we don't know what's going to happen agave uptown suffered a major break in last summer when thieves stole $10,000 in cash and expensive bottles of liquor. >> sanchez says since opening in 2016, the restaurant has dealt with nearly 2 dozen break-ins and not one has been

resolved for sanchez calling the police has not helped. that is no point for me to a waste. any time trying to >> and township police department are trying to make the reporting that happened. he says they want to stay on 22nd in broadway, in oakland, for their customers and the community. but city leaders need to listen to their calls for help. we just need support. so we need. and we need to be heard in oakland, dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> 603. and we have more developments now in the murder suicide that happened in a home in san mateo. investigators have identified the gunman and the family now and henry, his wife, alice, been seager and their twin boys, nathan and noah were all found dead in their home on monday when police went to do a welfare check, they think that the family had been dead

for nearly 2 days. investigators believe that the father shot the wife multiple times before shooting himself in the bathroom. the twins were found dead in a bedroom. their cause of death remains under investigation because they had no signs of physical trauma. linkedin accounts indicate that the father worked in tech and the husband, the wife was a data science manager at zillow. police say there's no history of violence in that family and they are continuing to work and try to figure out a motive. >> well, another big story that we're following waymo is now disputing claims by san mateo county officials that the company had failed to properly communicate its plan to expand outside of san francisco in an email sent out thursday. waymo said that it had, in fact conducted outreach briefings with dozens of public and private stakeholders in the county and that their briefings included a presentation that included a

map of the peninsula. last week, san mateo county's attorney sent a letter to the california public utilities commission asking it to reject waymo's request for expansion because of lack of communication. the controversy stems from a county resolution passed just on tuesday. that would give local governments the final say over driverless car services. right now that decision rests with the dmv and the cpu c. >> take a look at this. investigators say they found hundreds of weapons inside a richmond home, including 11 machine guns. >> more than 100 handguns and about a million rounds of ammunition. attorney general rob bonta's office says the man who owned all of this was not legally allowed to have guns. so he's now been taken into custody. >> time now 606, and look at this 10,000 pounds of methamphetamine. and there's the canine deputy that found all of those drugs during a traffic stop in petaluma on wednesday, the driver had a misdemeanor arrest warrant out of mendocino county. and so

they pulled him over the jacinto county sheriff's office says that when they did, that's when the deputy the canine found the drugs they were in dog treat boxes. and in a cat litter box. the driver was arrested and taken to jail. >> well, the a's are back at the negotiating table once again with oakland and alameda county leaders don't think they want to stay in oakland. they're still going las vegas, but they need a place to play in the interim. that's right. yeah. we've got an option to stay a little bit longer. and kron four's dan kerman talk more about that. >> the oakland a's least to play at the coliseum expires at the end of the year with a new stadium in las vegas. at least 3 years out. the a's have been visiting a variety of minor league ballparks like this one in sacramento in hopes of playing there during the interim years. clearly. >> if they had a solution or multiple solutions in other states. in other ball parks that have been approved by major league baseball. that's where they'd be. instead, the

a's were back at the table thursday with officials from the city of oakland and alameda county. >> discussing a lease extension at the coliseum. in a statement, say we had a positive meeting and we look forward to further discussions regarding the lease extension at the coliseum. this is about the a's and keeping them in oakland and having mayor sheng thao. >> and others around her, not just her being ready to fight like this time around to keep the team here. former a's executive andy dolan says he hopes local officials are from with the a's. >> new lease extension unless they reconsider the move to las vegas and instead build a new stadium in oakland. and he's not the only one who believes these discussions could expand beyond a lease extension. i think baseball would rather stay in oakland and then it would leave las vegas as a possible expansion market. david sampson served as president of the miami marlins for 16 years and

oversaw the construction of the teams do ballpark, which, by the way, has a retractable roof. i used vegas's leverage in san antonio and portland in an effort to get a new ballpark in miami. i understand what it is to threaten relocation. and i also know to get a deal done. you have to get right to the edge of the end. and i think that's pretty close to where we are, but not quite sampson says other than ok for major league baseball. there's been no meaningful progress in las vegas. while there are numerous possible road blocks. that's why despite what's happened over the last few months, he says it's not too late. and i went through that with the public officials in miami when we went a very long time without speaking in the first meeting back at the table. was really more about subjugating my ego apologizing for how things had gone and apologizing for the lack of communication. and it really was just like a first date trying to forget about all the

negative stuff happened and try to find any sort of commonality of interest that could be the purpose of the meeting today as well. it's not known when the next meeting between the a's and local officials will take place. dan kerman kron, 4 news. fascinating, right? wow. ok now, meantime, >> we've got the oakland ballers that are coming to town and they have chosen a ballpark for their home field yesterday they unveiled plans to invest 1.6 million dollars in raimondi park in west oakland. >> in the 18, 100's when the park was created called bay view park and then it got renamed ryman a park after early monday, who was like an iconic catcher for the oaks. they're essentially some of the greatest ball players in the country came out of her money park. we're talking about curt flood, you know, the father of free agency, beta penson, frank robinson. we started this team because

>> 6.13, and here are 4 things that you need to know. san leandro police raided a home that was used as a brothel. and when they got in, they found evidence of human trafficking. they arrested 3 people. the chp is looking for this silver acura, mdx, because a woman was seen being forced into it in san francisco's potrero hill last friday. witnesses they saw a woman running away from that

suv and then a man forced her back into it. opponents of prop b spoke about the measure that if passed would create minimum police staffing levels in san francisco, it would also create a new tax, though, are some form of revenue to pay for this. and opponents don't like that. transit officials met last night talking about the proposed hike for the tolls at the golden gate bridge. they want meet a budget shortfall. it costs $9 with fast track. right now across the bridge. and there are 4 options that they're looking at. the increases. and though the public is going to be taken before they do anything. >> what calfire now getting 7 news c-one 30 planes to help in their firefighting efforts from the air. so these aircraft were transferred to cal fire from the coast guard. it's a partnership that first started by the late dianne feinstein. the planes will be modified and equipped with all the firefighting gear needed before they're ready for service. part of the goal is to make these monster plane streamlined and efficient in

bay. this first round of rain is going to have a bigger impact on the northern part of the bay area with areas of heavy rain. pretty much all throughout the day. former in sonoma and napa lake mendocino as well as solano and colusa counties. we will be seeing our own dose of heavy rainfall for the rest of the bay. i'm it's going to be widespread light through the morning, but the heaviest of it into tomorrow afternoon. so saturday, not a good one to plan a lot outdoors sunday. we'll catch a breather between storms, though, with the next arriving either sunday afternoon or sunday evening, depending on how fast these storms roll the first storm system. you remember that one? that's what moved through earlier this past week. low pressure to the west of us that your second storm system impacting u.s. tomorrow. 3rd, sitting out in the pacific. that's number 3. the successive fronts, the next one being tomorrow having a big impact on our northern counties after that breather sunday morning. but by sunday afternoon into evening, the next storm system rolls through in this one likely to

have just as much impact, if not even more for the rest of the bay area in further south into the santa cruz mountains. by the time we reach the tail end of the weekend into mid next week, some spots in the santa cruz mountains could see upwards of 7 inches of rain, urban areas for the bay anywhere between 2 and 5 inches of rainfall depending on exactly where you're talking. so this is going to be a lot of rain does come up with a little bit of flooding. potential this year about is also go ng to get a decent amount of snowfall. tomorrow, a lighter amounts sunday night into monday for president's day, a heavier about so maybe your travel back down from the sierra de will be sunday. if you are heading back on monday, expect multiple feet of it at higher elevations, donner summit, 7 to 9 inches of it, which will certainly result in chain controls. this is good news for the sierra little bit of catch-up work being done here. the northern sears, 84% of average southern sierra closer to 69%. so we are just below average. this weekend is going to help out a lot with that temperatures today in the low to mid 60's

for most spots in a couple of us actually rising into the upper 60's. san jose is going to be our warmest spot on the map today. and as you can see that get you up to 68 degrees. that is a little bit warmer than average for february and a little bit of warm before stormy weekend. i think that's a good reason to get out there and spend some time outside for your friday before some movies and work around the house. probably tomorrow. tomorrow is going to be our rainiest coolest of the weekend. for that matter sunday, we'll see dry skies at the start of the day. 2nd half of the day, though, starts to get rainy as that next system arrives. rain stays with us into monday, rainy and windy for that matter with tuesday and wednesday, sing some residual showers before drying out come thursday. all right. thank you very much, john. quick check of the bridges. and again, we're still moving well. the bay bridge toll plaza camera shows, you know, backup whatsoever on the oakland side. >> 0 problems on the spanish. just 13 minutes to get into san francisco, the san mateo

bridge westbound 90 to the right hand side there. moving along at the limit, 13 minutes to cross that span as well. and then across the north bay, san pablo bay, richmond, sandra fell bridge. yeah, not bad. 8 minutes to get from richmond out towards sandra fell and then a final stop for the golden gate bridge. again, a nice friday light ride for you. southbound 101, from the battle with the san francisco. just running in 19 minutes. currently. >> 6.19, right now. and you get to go to raging waters in san jose. they are reopening this summer after they closed last september. the city of san jose made a deal with california dreaming entertainment. they operate the water park and they're going to keep it open. the new operator will invest 6 million dollars and that will go to improving the landscaping and adding new attractions. the park will not only be a win for residents, but also a win for the city of san jose because they're going to collect about 6% of any revenue. once the park reopens >> it is rare for government to move this quickly. but our

leadership in our parks and rec department, knew how much was at stake for our families jumped in, found this interim operator came to terms that that are great for the city. actually providing the fun experience. we all know and love. >> i love raging waters. and level water park. so i'm so happy to have this one. this deal still needs to be approved by the city council. and if they give the green light, then the new operators can schedule opening day. they concert posting job listings, by the way, in the summer, this deal will run through the fall of 2025. and if it goes well, then it would be extended another year. >> on the peninsula, all of these tents are supposed to be cleared out from stanford today, all while after almost 4 months of camping out on campus pro-palestine palestinian demonstrators and the university have reached a deal. now, the end of this protest, the students have been asking stanford to call for a cease-fire between israel and hamas. among other

demands, the university has agreed to meet with the students to discuss those demands. but in exchange, the students have to break down their encampment. stanford also posted that it will not pursue legal or disciplinary action again. so students. south bay state senator dave court se has introduced a new senate bill that will speed up medical care for farm workers injured from the heat. so if passed, this bill would expedite claims so farm workers and their families could get timely compensation and medical treatment and also encourage employers to follow heat safety regulations. senator kurt se says that climate change is bringing record breaking temperatures and it's a growing threat to the safety of our state's agricultural workers. california law requires that agricultural employers provide shade hydration access, rest breaks and heat illness. prevention training. we're going to take a break in 6.22. >> coming up on the kron, 4 morning news. there's a new effort in sacramento to help

>> we are back at 6.25. and a new bill has been introduced to the state capital that would require interior locks on classroom doors. so this bill is dubbed the school safety act and it will require any new or renovated school building to include interior locks on all doors, excluding the restrooms or doors that are locked at all times.

supporters point out that currently one in 4 classroom doors can only be locked from the outside, which means that during a school emergency, when classrooms need to be locked and educator or student has to step outside to lock the door, putting themselves in danger. >> for your money, you may see prices at restaurants going up starting this summer, a new law banning hidden fees could trigger this change. in october, the governor signed a law that says that all fees have to be disclosed up front. that includes service charges that restaurants add to the end of the bill to cover employee benefits. for example, higher wages and health insurance. now those costs are going to have to be added to what you see as the prices on the menu items and the fees don't include a tip. the new law goes into effect july 1st. the biden administration is getting 970 million dollars to more than 100 airports across the

really gorgeous friday. we'll look at beautiful view here. looking down over the bay. we've got john in the weather center with our friday forecast, which i think is going to be not do not compare to the creek i'm excited to hunker down for the weekend. i kind of into it seems like a good weekend for taking it a little easy. you know, last weekend we'll talk about it too much, but there's a lot going so this weekend, we're looking at a nice weekend to just take it a little bit easier out there. you're look outside from mount tam. look at those pink skies, even with a lot of cloud cover this morning. >> got a beautiful sunrise taking shape right now in today's overall is going to be a very pleasant day lot overcast conditions. so not quite as clear as yesterday was our next storm system. you can clearly see where that one sitting. there is the center of circulation right there. a little cloud cover in advance of it. we do have this moisture plume stretching off shore in a very strong jet that is just going to push all that moisture from one, not in 2 rounds of storms continuously our direction tomorrow being the first wave of moisture sunday afternoon

into monday being the second temperatures in the 40's to 50's right now. alameda in hayward at 51 degrees. so cool enough for the jackets this morning. this afternoon, though, solid 60's and a mild and dry friday to hopefully take advantage of james. john. alright, thank you. let's take a look at the roads this morning. no major incidents out there according to the chp. so your bridges and they look great too, on this friday morning. it's just 12 minutes to get from oakland in the san francisco across the bay bridge >> beautiful ride for you. there. the san mateo bridge looking great highway. 92 moving well from hayward out to foster city. just 14 minutes across the bay to the south in the north, we've got the richmond, sandra fell bridge westbound 5, 18, 9 minutes to get to the marine coastline. so all is good there. and then our final stop for you. the golden gate bridge, which has been nice and light. just a handful headlights here tracking southbound on 101, from marin county down into san francisco. just a 20 minute ride from 37 to the toll. it's taken away. we can. you know, monday, all.

>> it has been one year that oakland officially has not had a police chief a long time because last february member that chief leronne armstrong was fired by mayor sheng thao and crime which was already on the upswing at that time has only continued in that direction. kron four's rob nesbitt has more on why the city is still without a top cop. >> i've been on the council since 2013 and i've seen already. 8, 9 police cheese, oakland city councilmember noel gallo has witnessed the revolving door of police chiefs in oakland. >> thursday marks one year since mayor sheng thao fire on armstrong from the role. but i am no longer confident that chief armstrong can do the work needed to achieve the vision. so today. i have decided to separate from chief leronne armstrong from the city without cause. mayor thao says a lack of confidence that armstrong's ability. >> came after a report from a law firm working for the federal monitor. robert warshaw, the report alleged mishandling by armstrong of to officer misconduct cases. the

city has been subject to federal monitoring for the last 2 decades. and armstrong has filed a lawsuit against the city claiming he was fired retaliation for speaking out against warshaw attorney. will edelman is representing armstrong in the case when somebody engages in some type of activity that's protected from one of the one of the bases. here is the first amendment's right to free speech. and another is reporting misconduct. your employer can't terminate. you're just because you're engaged protected activity. that's exactly what the chief is alleging happened here. both city council members declined to comment thursday because of the ongoing lawsuit between armstrong in the city. but gallo continues to be a supporter of armstrong and would like to see him reinstated as the city's police chief citing his ability to bring in extra resources when we needed to reach out to whether it's the fbi or the highway patrol or the county sheriff, he was able to coordinate that and do reporting the newsroom. i'm rob nesbitt kron. 4 news. >> calling for is your local election headquarters and proposition b is on the ballot in san francisco. it would

create minimum police staffing levels. but it would also require that those new positions be paid for by a new tax or revenue outside of the general fund. and that's something that supervisor matt dorsey says he is not in favor of. >> it says that it's going to have at minimum police staffing levels. don't do that without a tax hike. it says that it's going to establish a recruiting fund. it won't do that without a tax hike and it says. that it's going increase but beats and have officers on the street. it won't do any of that without attacks that this is the most misunderstood measure on the ballot. it is also a measure that implicates the number one issue that san franciscans are facing right now in public safety challenges that was played out yesterday when we saw the latest city people, san franciscans overwhelmingly feel strongly that we need to make progress on police staffing and on public safety. this is a measure that directly implicates that.

>> these are some of the results of that city beat poland. dorsey was just talking about. it's an annual poll put out by the chamber of commerce and found 72% of voters say san francisco is on the wrong track, which is only slightly better than the 77% recorded last year. only 40% say they visit downtown weekly and only about a 3rd say they actually feel safe downtown at night. 85% want unused office space. downtown converted for other uses. >> a lot of this is all about retail theft at the state capitol lawmakers are looking at new legislation to try to addressed the problem. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace takes a look at what they want to do. >> well, speaker events as part of this proposal are still in the works, but he and democratic leaders presented an overall framework they believe will combat retail theft. organized retail theft is a problem that we need to tackle. that's exactly what somebody speaker robert reeva says he's aiming to do with new legislation just introduced.

>> chair of the assembly, retail thefts, select committee, democrat rick chavez burger and chair of the assembly public safety committee. democrat kevin mccarty joined reavis to formally announce the california retail theft reduction act. their description, a comprehensive set of reforms to address the issue of retail crime. while this group makes clear, the legislation is still coming together and will likely include changes following meetings with stakeholders. for now, this is the basic framework. first, the proposal put into law a penalty of prison up to 3 years for those convicted of stealing property with the intent to second, the bill will allow for what's known as aggregation, meaning several thefts committed by one person can all add up to meet the larger penalty for grand theft. 3rd on the issue of data, transparency, retailers will be required to provide data they've collected 4th. the bill calls for an expansion of diversion rehab programs like drug courts and 5th. the idea is to provide law enforcement with the tools to keep repeat offenders in

custody. this package says to organized crime rings, we need a business and we're giving law enforcement the tools that they need to shut you down. we won't sweep this issue under the rug. >> and there will be a robust answer dealing with the issue of a retail theft in california, but not included in the bill. a proposal to repeal prop. 47 passed by california voters in 2014. the law change certain nonviolent crimes from felonies to misdemeanors, including theft when the items stolen are valued at less than $950. >> while supporters have long argued the law will help reduce california's prison population and lead to criminal justice reform opponents, including republican member tom lackey say emboldened criminals to take part in certain crimes like retail theft, but little to no punishment from 47 was heavily contributed to the problem. >> and so in order to find a solution to have to first address the problem. and that's prop 47. and ahead of friday's bill introduction deadline until we could see at least a dozen other bills on retail theft introduced in the

legislature reporting at the state capitol. a tom wallace kron. 4 news. >> and 6.37, and san jose police have arrested a man for shooting another man at a hotel last month. fernando macias is accused of shooting the man at a hotel on north 4th street and that victim have life threatening injuries but stabilized. now, acs was arrested at a hotel in santa clara on tuesday. now he's in the county jail. happening now. the chp is looking for this suv. we want to show it to their reports. a witness saw a woman being forced in to this silver suv in san francisco's potrero hill. as you can see, it is an acura mdx. and the witness says they saw a woman trying to run away from that vehicle when a man grabbed her and forced her into the car. this happened last friday night on the right hand shoulder of 101, near vermont street. anybody who sees the suv is asked to

contact the police. >> on the peninsula, menlo park. police now crediting a community member for calling 9-1-1 after spotting something suspicious. so police say the call led to the arrest of a man who they say was carrying an assault rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest. they say a 34 year-old man from san mateo was today arrested officers detained him in the area over brian drive and kavanaugh drive. and update to a story we first brought you on the kron. 4 morning news. a 3rd person has died now following a crash on the bay bridge yesterday morning. according to the chp, a mini cooper heading east was stalled in the far right lane just before treasure island, when a pickup truck plowed into it all 3 people in that cooper died. the driver of the truck is up to hospital now with serious injuries. we spoke with the chp and they offered some advice on what you should do if your car breaks down on the freeway. >> moving over to the far right lane would have been the best option if the occupants

is now disputing claims by san mateo county officials that they didn't properly communicate their plan to expand their. they say they did meet with officials beforehand and included a map of where on the peninsula. they wanted to expand their service. the controversy this week all stems from a county resolution passed this past tuesday that would give local governments the final say over driverless cars, services. lawmakers at the state capital of introduced a bill to allow undocumented students to work on campus at california, public universities and colleges. there are an estimated 40,000 undocumented college students across the state. the a's are looking to extend their lease at the oakland coliseum. in fact, they met with local officials yesterday. the current lease expires at the end of the year, but their new stadium in las vegas won't be ready for at least 3 more years. the team has been visiting a variety of minor league ballparks in hopes of playing somewhere in these interim years. and raging waters will be open for business this summer. after all, the city struck a deal with a private company to reopen the water

moderate showers at the start, rainfall kicks into gear late morning into early afternoon for the north bay. and then mid afternoon for the rest of us. some real heavy stuff pushing through from start to finish tomorrow is going to be rainy. but the heaviest of it does come along during the afternoon for most of the bay area coming along with some strong winds, too. we'll dry out until late saturday night early sunday morning before sunday afternoon. our next round of rain gets here. so it's actually 3 punches of rainfall. the first already moved through earlier this week. the seconds already resulting in that cloud cover today. rainfall tomorrow. the 3rd are right there%behind me is set to be working its way at the very close to the weekend. so it's all about timing. this first excessive front is going to leave its heaviest impact on the north coast summer in county northward. you're going to be seeing the heaviest of rainfall tomorrow. not that the rest of us won't. but north bay really getting a good dose of it. next system pushes through late on sunday. as i mentioned in this one actually does result in some flooding concerns because it's

a little bit more prolonged from sunday afternoon, all the way through tuesday and also having heavier rainfall this time for the rest of the bay area, especially the santa cruz mountains. you add all this up and we will be looking at the potential of over 7 inches of rain in some of our coastal mountains while urban areas and between 2 to 5 inches of rain, depending on where exactly on the map you're talking. so the ground is going to get saturated after tomorrow's rain. i mean, sunday, monday and tuesday as rain, going to start to stack up a little bit. speaking of stacking up the sierra going to see multiple feet of snowfall. upper elevations come the end of the weekend donner summit towards the foot of snowfall, 7 to 9 inches. so that could result in some delays up their best travel days to the sierra drive up today. travel back early sunday. if you can. this is going to be a catch-up weekend for the sierra because we have been climbing ourselves out of a deficit that we had earlier on this season. northern sierra big improvement. you're up to eight four percent of average. southern sierra needs work. and we're going to see that progress made over the

heavier volume on the bridge to the south of san mateo bridge highway 92. but you're still moving at the limit. only 14 minutes to get from the east bay out to the peninsula. beautiful skies here. as we look at the richmond, sandra fell bridge toll plaza camera traffic slowing down at the toll gates himself. once you're on the spanish, just 11 minutes to cross san pablo bay. and then here across the golden gate bridge, our final stop for you this morning. southbound 101. just 20 minutes from the bottom down into san francisco. turning our attention back to the headlines and for your money this morning, golden gate bridge transit officials just held an online open house to talk about a proposed toll hike for that bridge. currently costs about a trip on fast track to get across that span and transit officials say that they want to raise the tolls because they have a 220 million dollars budget shortfall expected over the next 5 years. they also say traffic and transit ridership really hasn't recovered yet fully from the pandemic. and that's resulting in a hit to their bottom line.

>> in the past bridge tolls funded half the cost of the district's bus and ferry transit services post penn tim post-pandemic due to an overall decline in revenues. tolls are only funding about 35% of the cost of operating transit services. >> they have foretold increase options were presented last night. the first one called for an annual increase of $0.50. the second one called for a $0.40 increase each year. the 3rd is a 4% annual increase, which then breaks down to $0.35 $0.40. and then $0.45 over time. and then the final option called for just a flat $0.35 annual increase. all options would raise anywhere from 100 to 140 million dollars over 5 years, the toll rate would remain lowest for fast track users, which is the vast majority of those that drive off the golden gate bridge. there is a public hearing scheduled for next thursday. it will be february 22nd at 09:00am in the board room of the administration building out at the golden gate bridge toll plaza. we'll keep you
