11. >> i'm grant lotus and i'm noelle bellow. the rush is on to get ready for that next round of storms for dick's to pack quite a punch to the bay area. we're going to check in with our chief meteorologist lawrence karnow in just a moment. but first, we do have some breaking news out of san francisco tonight. police are investigating a shooting that left one person seriously injured. officers say it happened shortly after 9 o'clock tonight in the area of connecticut and 26th streets. that's north of cesar chavez street. the person shot was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. we are staying on top of the situation and will update you as soon as we receive more information. >> now back to our weather coverage in kron. 4 chief meteorologist lawrence karnow standing by in the weather center tracking the storms and they're following on the holiday weekend. lawrence, how bad is it going to be? yeah, it's going to get rough at points during the weekend is not going to be a strong as the storms we had a couple of weeks ago. but they don't have to be. they're still going to cause some damage around the

bay area with some gusty winds and some heavy rains at time outdoors tonight, clouds rolling on in tonight. most rain holding off so far. but it's not far behind in this. what you can expect to see another in a series. a couple of storms moving on through flooding. a real possibility. i think especially as we get in towards sunday and monday. that will be the time when things may get a little iffy rainfall amounts. you're talking 6 to 8 inches between now in the middle of the next week across the coastal mountain range is one to 3 inches in the valleys and some very gusty winds to go along with that. i think 30 to 40 mile an hour gusts with the first storm. possible trees coming down possible more power outages, even stronger winds as we head in toward monday. maybe some gusts as high as 50 plus miles an hour along the coast. a watch is up for a possibility. some flooding all across the bay area going to be watching that all weekend long details of when the storm will exactly it will talk about that coming up in a few minutes. i will see soon. lawrence, a big concern with these storms is certainly flooding and the north bay,

there is still debris from the last round of big storms and communities. >> near along the russian river, longtime residents. they know the drill and big storms are on the way, but they have this message for their new or neighbors people have generators, you know, most people, if they did, now they're going to get one because we didn't have power here in this area for about. >> 3 days. so that can ruin your anything in the fridge if its, you know, more than 24 hours. >> no doubt. emergency crews say to have your go bag ready and look out for emergency alerts. >> these hogs at least apparently enjoying the wet mud. the oakland zoo sharing this video with the alert that they will be closed tomorrow due to rain. the zoo says it will automatically refund. you if you already had reservations. >> developing news tonight, police in the east bay are looking for a man after finding a woman who is dead. >> investigators believe 36 year-old jeffrey kendall shot

and killed the woman at a home in pinole this morning. kron four's dan thorn reports. >> investigators say it was at this home on summit drive in pinole where officers found a woman shot and killed. the suspected gunman identified as this man. 36 year-old jeffrey kendall police say kendall broke into the home and attacked the woman before killing her friday morning. neighbor tom tucker says he's in disbelief. you know, we heard that there was homicide. >> pretty crazy stuff is quite quiet. little neighborhood that we live in >> tucker says he doesn't recognize can do, but it's concerning that a suspected killer is still on the loose. that's the little nerve wracking, you know, got got kids. we've got i got 4 kids and their cell. police commander matt avery says this type of crime is unusual for the small city. very rare. we do not have homicides. >> in general, domestic up in a very quiet residential that

were and very rare for commander avery says kendell was last seen taking off in this gray hyundai elantra. there's an ox more hyundai sticker on the right side of the trunk lid. >> and the california license plate reads blm, 0, 3, 6, kendall has a connection to the home. but the relationship with the victim is still unclear. we're still investigating that, but it appears that it's a tragic case domestic violence. along with the gray hyundai. kendall was also last seen wearing a baseball cap, a camo jacket and dark colored pants. >> he is considered to be armed and dangerous in pinole. dan thorn kron. 4 news. >> police in the east bay have busted a suspected brothel in a residential neighborhood that they say is linked to pimping prostitution as well as human trafficking. san leandro police served a search warrant at this home on monday and arrested 3 people. a 60 year-old man, a 34 year-old

woman and a 35 year-old woman. as of tonight, only the man is facing charges, neighbors. we spoke to off camera say they have noticed random been frequently showing up at the house over the past year. >> i saw her police officer k a young handcuffs and put it on the back seat of the car is pretty quiet neighborhood. same people lived here for many, many is. >> police declined to share whether or not they found any trafficking victims. >> mayor is expressing the surprise over an abrupt closure of the city's public library. the contra costa county library announcing today it's temporarily closing the antioch branch after repeated dangerous incidents over the last few months. library saying the safety of visitors and staff has been threatened. the mayor sent this letter to the county administrator saying in part, he's shocked that at no point were antioch residents given warning of this possibility of a closure. he also wrote no

one in the city, including the police chief, were informed of any safety concerns by contra costa county regarding the library. he ended the letter by asking the administrator to work with the city to try and find a resolution. the library system says in the meantime, anyone who has checked out items from the library can return them to any of the other branches or just hold on to them until that antioch location reopens. take a look at this. a major crackdown on a statewide organized retail theft operation. you're looking at more than 8 million dollars in beauty products. the chp says were stolen from ulta beauty and other cosmetic stores across the state. investigators say those items were stolen from 21 different counties, including bay area counties like alameda contra costa and santa clara. chp says the operations ringleader paid people to steal beauty products and then sold those items on amazon. the ringleader was taken into custody today.

>> a report of a retail theft ended with a drug arrests at the petaluma village premium outlets. police say the suspect here was carrying nearly 11 grams of fentanyl trying to sell it. investigators say that amount is enough to potentially kill more than 5,000 people. police say the suspect was also carrying meth drug paraphernalia and about $100 in cash. a terrifying ordeal for san francisco residents on valentine's day. police say 3 people broke into a home on winding way in the city's ingleside neighborhood around 4 o'clock in the morning. residents told police the suspects held them at gunpoint while they ransacked the home and then took off with money, jewelry and their car. one of the victim suffered a minor injury. police are asking for anyone with info to give them a call. and police say nobody was hurt in a shooting in san francisco today. busy intersection. gunshots

reported around 1 o'clock this afternoon at the corner of bay and powell streets few blocks from fisherman's wharf. police outside the trader. joe's there. we're not able to find any suspects or victims, but people who often shop in the area were shaken up. >> i come here just for my lunch break and go shopping in. you know, you just think, you know, it's not going to happen. kind of where you shop, you know, and so to to see that it's happening where i shop is is unnerving and super sad, too. >> and scary if you happen to know anything about what happened. you're asked to contact the sfpd. >> former ucsf staff member is going to prison, convicted of stealing tuition from students. prosecutors say sandra eileen lay worked as an academic program officer for the ucsf school of nursing program. they say between 2013 2019, she made students write their tuition checks payable to her or to leave the checks. blake funneling more than 1.5

million dollars to her own bank account. in addition to her 20 month prison sentence. lay also has to pay more than 1 million dollars and restitution. stanford issued this emergency notification earlier today after a person called the non-emergency line at palo alto dispatch stating he intended to commit a shooting on campus. police responded immediately to that area. but there's still no word on whether the threat was credible or not. police are asking anyone in the area to call 9-1-1 if they see any suspicious activity. investors in the proposed california forever city in solano county are trying to move forward. filing a 3rd ballot initiative to build that community. the initiative was changed to satisfy concerns from the travis air force base about how the new development would affect their radar and flights. the base supports the new version, but local lawmakers say it's still not specific enough. they want plans on protecting the base, water and transportation for the community and they want

information to ensure taxpayers do not have to contribute to that city's development. with the new filing, the company has more time to collect 13,000 signatures to get that initiative on the november ballot. >> still to come host set to get a significant amount of snow in the coming days. where you can find great skiing conditions this holiday weekend. >> plus, we're learning more about what the city of oakland is asking for in exchange for hosting the a's at the coliseum for a few more years. and oakland set to receive millions of dollars as part of the states project homekey program where the city will soon find housing for people.

>> the city of oakland is set to receive 14 million dollars from the state to help house people living on the streets. the quality inn near the coliseum will soon be the site of 77 units. 26 units for use. according to oakland leaders. >> john, it's will not only offer as safe and secure space. well, also include essential and then a tease at bedroom at that room and a kitchen at. >> the new homes will take about a year to complete. >> some big storms are headed our way. they're expected to bring a lot of snow to the sierra. it's good news for kids in parents who don't have to school go to school next week and are trying to hit the slopes. skiers and snowboarders have been picking up rental gear at sports basement in walnut creek. we spoke with someone from

palisades tahoe today about where they can find the best conditions. higher elevations where the snow is going to stay the best. the lightest. it might just get a little bit wider and denser towards the base elevation of our mountain. but we got. >> upwards of 9,000 feet are highest peak. we will have great snow up high and it's going to be great powder writing. with the snowy forecast comes potentially risky road conditions, though, ski resorts are advising. >> visitors to check on those and of course, pay attention to the forecast before leaving home. speaking of forecast, we've got chief meteorologist lawrence karnow here. he says if you leave tomorrow, is it ok? no was today or you have you would left today the ok, starting to see some changes now >> as we're beginning to see some of that moisture make its way in the sierra. now it's not going to a full-blown. >> and really heavy, i think until tomorrow afternoon that some things were really pick up in the sierra. but we're beginning to see some of that moisture showing up right now. roadways are open and clear 15, 80. you're still looking good there right now. but

they're going to deteriorate as we head into the night tonight and tomorrow. so winter storm warnings are going up starting at 4 o'clock in the afternoon on saturday. continuing all the way until wednesday. that kind of getting the idea of amount of a stormy weather we're going to see between now and then. in fact, the latest forecast on the snow model showing maybe as much as 2 to 4 feet across some of the higher peaks. of course, these are little bit warmer storm. so right 5, 6,000 feet. all right, along the coastline, we're seeing some big time winds kicking up, in fact, was just checking the winds. they've all moved out of the south now and that means they're starting to feel the effects of that low off the coastline. winds, though, are going to generate some big-time swells. may be. 22 feet may be occasional a 28 footer along the coastline. be careful out there on the rocks, right? we're seeing some of those winds picking up now, not much in the way of rain, although some of that precipitation is starting to show up out there. but well, the storms developing, we've got one that's a really in the gulf of alaska, the center there and then one right behind it. but you see the tap of moisture all the way down the hawaiian islands. this is

a weak atmospheric river event that's approaching the coastline right now. but still a lot of moisture will behind that, though, that looks like you get very intense. you can see really a tightly wound area of low pressure that's going to really deepen at screaming across the pacific right now being set up by about a 200 mile an hour jet stream out there. so it's going to come right toward the coastline and then it's going to stall. and so really that's going to keep us wet right on through sunday and into the middle of next week for storm system coming on shore for tomorrow. bring some gusty winds and some nice rain. and then the next one comes in this little bit quicker as we head in towards sunday and monday and tuesday. maybe some thunderstorms embedded with the storm system as well. and so, yeah, we're going to see a whole lot of rain. some of the mountain tops maybe as much as 7, maybe 8 inches of rain. so here's the forecast stormy day. pretty much all day long sunday. that next storm comes in right about the middle of the day. and then we continue on monday and on tuesday. so we'll see some flooding. i we're looking more like on sunday night into monday that think that some will see more significant rises. laura, local rivers and streams so watching out there over the weekend and mostly like north

bay. and you said santa cruz mountains are really going to out of we've got to watch of waterloo pay river to. i think that some of those creeks and streams that are flooded in the previous storms. >> we could easily see that happen again as we head toward next week. let's hope not. yeah. all right. thanks, >> city of oakland is playing hardball with the a's. now the sides are meeting this week to discuss a potential extension of as lease at the coliseum. beyond this year, the a's need a temporary home until their stadium in vegas actually gets built. city of oakland's asking the major league baseball for a guarantee of an expansion team wants the a's lead for good. we spoke with san francisco chronicle, sports columnist scott ostler about the possibility of that happening. >> now it's a bit of a big ask and it seemed impossible not that long ago. but are desperate. they give us 70 million bucks year if they have to play elsewhere. so they can mlb to guarantee oakland that its fashion team. that's again, that that's a

possibility often by far their best option because it would save them a ton of money and they but yeah. >> if oakland and the a's don't make a deal, the team could set up shop in sacramento for a few years and play in the minor league stadium. that's there. according to evan drellich of the athletic. that's the most likely scenario. another option that's been thrown out there is for the team to play in salt lake city, oakland mayor sheng thao did release a statement on this. it reads in part, quote, keeping the a's in oakland is what's best for major league baseball. the a's oakland and fans. my doors open to john fisher and to anyone else who has the means and desire to purchase the a's and keep them rooted in the tap. >> 30 to >> and with that, a brand new clubhouse is open at the golden gate park golf course in san francisco. it's nice. mayor london breed joined other city officials today for

that ribbon cutting ceremony at the spurs top spot, the nearly 6 million dollar club house features a multi functionar lounge, new pro shop food and beverage concessions. and an outdoor patio. it replaces the previous club house built in 1951. that was destroyed not too long ago in a fire. it did take a >> a while to get here. not just because construction times the san francisco because of a global pandemic. you know, yes, it and here we are that despite some of those challenges and despite seeing this clubhouse burned down. >> we persevered. beautiful spot. >> nine-hole yet feel like often have and gone there. it's a treasure in the city. good to see that. it is back open. by the way, the golf course itself recently as part of this project underwent some landscaping up grants might have to this. >> the sfmta has released a report after implementing bike lanes on valencia street. it

says after the first 3 months they saw a 77% decrease in illegal double park. double park kings. and a 26% decrease in vehicle volume on the street before the pilot, most of the double parking was happening in the single bike lane travel lane. the report did point out rideshare services and food deliveries have increased in the area. it also said 11 collisions happened during this three-month period, mostly due to illegal left turns officials say they're taking some steps to try to address that issue. >> all right. coming up, the 3rd ranked stanford women hosted cal tonight down on the farm. next in sports, barry shows a came out on top in the battle of the bay.
