kind outside of asia. >> from the area's local news station, you're watching the kron. 4 morning news at 7. >> good morning. thank you so much for joining us here on the kron. 4 morning news. i'm stephanie lin. >> it's saturday, february the 24th. let's get your day started with a look at the weather with dave spahr. good morning, dave. definitely good morning and good morning, everybody. start your engines for springs today. that's what it's going to feel like a shake off those winter blues. as we see temperatures soar beyond 70 degrees. well inland, it looks like everybody treated to lots of sunshine. a little bit of breeze coming with it. however, looks like there's still some showers and our 7 day forecast both near and far on that right now. first things looks pretty good as we start the day. this is a san jose state. just a few little scattered clouds in the background. as you will notice, there was this move on shore. see that little doughnut there in the lower left-hand side of your screen. there. that's going to be responsible for some increasing clouds tomorrow and some showers late tomorrow

into early monday. however, that's not the real unsettled weather. we're looking at way upstream reminder that it's still winter month. by the time we get, there course will be early march by the time it gets here. but it looks like by the end of next week, things will change again, calm wind conditions for you. a single digits, not much that we have a wind spurred until we get to on monday. looks like most readings in the 40's for now. a couple of 50's hanging san francisco at 54. 52 for half moon bay. but you could check out how we stand were a little bit trailing around the midday up north and down south a little bit warmer than this time from yesterday. so wall to wall sunshine on balance and already by 2 o'clock, we're sailing into the mid to upper 60's and again inland. we're going to see some 70's that that to have your 4 zone forecast and check in what it looks like into next week as well. 70. all right, dave. >> a lawsuit over homeless sweeps in san francisco is now on hold. a federal judge made the decision on friday. in the meantime, the supreme court is reviewing a similar case out of oregon. kron four's. dan

thorn has the details. >> the city of san francisco gets the pause it asked for in a lawsuit over encampment sweeps a federal judge granted the hold friday as the supreme court decides whether people can be removed from street camps without the offer of immediate housing. we asked the judge to pause the lawsuit so that we're not wasting significant public resources continuing to litigate this case. >> when it's very possible that the decision could come down to change the legal landscape. san francisco city attorney david chiu is referring to the supreme court's review of grants pass be johnson. >> chew says the decision by the high court would affect the basis of the lawsuit brought forth by the coalition on homelessness. the organization filed suit against the city in 2022. after accusing officials of violating the law by removing homeless encampments without providing alternate housing. san francisco is currently under a preliminary injunction

preventing officials from removing street encampments unless the city gives those people some place to live to says the injunction and the grants pass case have made it difficult for cities to address conditions on the streets. the recent rulings that put our city really an impossible situation. >> of balancing our compassionate approach with providing services and shelter to homeless individuals, but also ensuring that are streets are safe and accessible and attorney for the coalition on homelessness tells kron 4. >> they'll be ready to continue with the lawsuit even after the supreme court's ruling they shared in part, quote, we will be prepared this summer to continue our litigation and ensure that the city does not waste more taxpayer dollars on dehumanizing unhoused people with costly and ineffective practices that will make it harder for people to exit homelessness. >> and that was dan thorn reporting for us this morning. the supreme court's review of grants pass comes after

governor gavin newsom and the city attorney david chiu urged the lawsuit to be looked at a decision from the high court is expected in june. in the east bay. saint public. police are looking for a woman accused of hitting an officer with her car. police say it happened around 1 o'clock friday afternoon in the area of san pablo dam road. and san pablo avenue. investigators say officers tried to pull over a car reported to be stolen, but the driver refused and led police on a chase. police say the suspect's car then collided with another car parked at all to boulevard near richmond. high school when an officer got out of his patrol car arrest the suspect. police say that's when the suspect drove towards the officer and hit it. police are looking for a red 2018 chevy malibu with california license plate. >> 8 z uh 2 to 7. police say the front windshield should be damaged. the officer again, who was hit by the car, fired 2 rounds at the vehicle. that officer was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

and oakland man is convicted in a father's day shooting that left 3 people dead and 4 others injured in richmond. it happened 3 years ago at a house party. andrei k ramirez como was convicted on 3 counts of first-degree murder and 4 counts of attempted murder. prosecutors say ramirez como and a teen opened fire on a group of partygoers mistaking them for rival gang members. he is scheduled to be sentenced next month and faces a life sentence. the teen's identity has not been released, but they have been charged for the shooting. for workers in the hospital after being electrocuted in san jose. it happened just before 11 o'clock friday morning. fire officials say 2 men were working near some power lines near the intersection of zenker road and elijah street when one of them make contact with the power line, at least one of the men suffered burn injuries. it took crews just over 3 hours to rescue the pair. >> one of the things that pg e wants to reiterate is any time you're working around any high voltage lines, you want to stay at least 30 feet away. obviously, in this those protocols weren't followed. so

we weren't sure what happened there. >> told the men were contracted to work for a nearby apartment building. state investigators are looking into what happened. bay cities are recovering from a cyber attack thursday, oakley city manager declared a state of emergency pleasant hill. officials say they caught the problem in their systems are not at risk at this time. no word yet. if the hackers got a hold of any private information, it's not clear at this point if the 2 incidents are related. the city of oakland got 14 million dollars to develop this land into new housing units for formerly homeless seniors. the land is near william patterson park in the area of hedges avenue in santa clara street in east oakland. the plan is to build 40 new homes. mayor sheng thao says the money is part of project homekey which has helped the city secured more than 450 permanent housing use at units since 2020. the 48 year-old woman is recovering in the hospital after a home invasion robbery in san francisco. police say

the robbery happened thursday night on dakota street in potrero hill where 2 women broke into the home and stole some cash. investigators said the vicm'injuries are not life-threatening. the 2 thieves, however, are still on the loose. teens face attempted murder charges in napa. police say a 16 year-old and a 17 year-old shot. someone walking their dog along myrtle avenue last friday night. no one investigators arrested the teens thursday after finding evidence at the shooting site they had the teens are known members of the. if you plan to be in santa rosa this weekend, part of westbound highway 12 will be shut down for road repairs. the closure between santa rosa and done avenues is set to be in place through monday moin at 5 o'clock with full closures at night and partial ones in the morning highway 12 eastbound will stay open for a full list of when those will be. then head to our website. kron 4 dot com. we'll take a look at this. the ground still very when piedmont after the storm we saw earlier this week, a

>> a fixture in oakland's nightlife is getting a new life. ruby room is set to reopen next week under new ownership. kron four's amanda hari caught up with the current owner about what's next. >> ruby room has been a staple in oakland for more than 2 decades located just blocks from lake merritt. it's one of last true dive bars in the city. it's history can be seen throughout a fitting ruby red pool table, graffiti decorating the bathroom bittersweet. of course. you know, it's been it was 24 years of my life and i love the majority and founding owner alfredo botelho gets to be in charge for just a few

more dates soon. he'll pass on the keys to someone else. the new ownership coming after he and his business partners first announced that the bar would be closing for good at the end of last year, all because of the pandemic. ruby remants experience with all of downtown oakland has been experiencing, which is. >> i think during covid people's going out how to change, realized could just stay home and buy a bottle of tequila and watch a movie. and i think that became a habit botelho and his partners went their separate ways. he wrote a book and decided to move on from the bar business. but they had a change of heart about closing the bar. i realize when we were closing, how much we had. played a part in some people's lives, people. they proposed hearing about their future wife here. came or to enter so bad breakup. the 3 co-owners decided to find potential buyers opening up on friday nights to keep their liquor license in january. do it? could denis and give sought a the owners of blue nile or

saturday. check in now with dave. for more on our weather. good morning, david. good morning, stephanie. good morning, everybody. oh, what a sweet saturday we will have. here's another shot for you. >> east bay, shoreline, blue skies, blue bay. lots of that to dish out for today. yes, some high cloudiness, but beyond that, basically nice sunshine. hey, it's not raining. it's been a couple weekends. we've not been able to say that. so it looks pretty good on that front. >> tomorrow is a little different. we'll get into that just a bit. all right. here's this low. that's going to kind of a spoiler. but at least we get a nice saturday out of things little in the way of some cloud cover in socal. all coming up from the southern latitudes. but conditions remaining mild, in fact, will be warm into this afternoon. futurecast for today. enjoy the sunshine. even clear up looks like as well. now tonight into tomorrow morning, some of that marine layer starts coming back again. so might have some fog. and along with that some cloud cover. and it looks like the cloud cover will linger for much of the day will called variable clouds kind of work in progress here. the moisture you can see bubbling up from the south. this is now getting out to monday morning. but

onset of sunday, rather make it a little stray sprinkle here or there. but on balance, it is going to look different than today with that scattered clouds monday. again, got the moisture bubbling up from the south and that showers into monday favoring the south a little bit in the east bay, too. now for this all the way till sunday night for those winds, this will be kind of after we get that little dose of rain showers. this goes into monday night and there's a little pop of some winds coming in from the north west. as you can see, this will be a little cooler, but it says drier air filtering in behind the little rain event as smooth a little compared to everything we've been through and compare what's happening later in the week. so let's line everything up here for you. what a nice view from sfo going on to a spirit of spring, a little spurt, rather sunny and mild with up mid 70's going on. well inland, some spots even along the east bay shoreline in the lower 70's. but at least that's pretty good tomorrow. sun and clouds mixture, a few showers late and very few on that count. it's monday. it looks like showers and then dry heading into tuesday in the

middle portion of the week. that means chilly nights to will revisit some of those upper 30's, too unsettled late on thursday onwards. so that's what i meant for next weekend. looks like kind of a wash this far out. 68 san francisco will do 71 for oakland. 75 san jose. but here is a little bit of your spurt of spring with 70's lining us up here. looks like lower 70's along the east bay shoreline. so a little flavor of that going forward. but boy, things will change later in the week, stephanie. so watch out with your rain gear at all that you still want to have that handy. okay. things will become unsettled again. that's good to know. thanks so much. data about all right. >> well, big story we're following today. we could be just days away from a government shutdown. the u.s. is set to run out of money at the end of next week. our trevor shirley has the latest. >> there's no sign that congress is close to avoiding a shutdown. the clock is ticking. and so what do we do next? congress returns to washington monday with a handful of federal agencies

said to shutter march 1st and the remaining ones march 8th leaving lawmakers little time to broker a deal. i hope we can do that. i don't think anybody wants to you know, according a government shutdown here. but we've got to actually move towards a regular appropriations process. a shutdown would close all but the most essential functions of government along with shuttering national parks and museums. >> both sides have tried to assure the public a shutdown won't happen, but that's appearing less likely. do you want to close mount rushmore? so the southern border could be open hard, right? republicans are pressuring speaker mike johnson to reject any government funding bill that doesn't include new border security protections. you with a secure the border or you get no money for the government. but even some democrats who support border reform say the disruptions caused by a government shutdown aren't worth that fight. it is so challenging to get anything done in congress. >> because i work with republican colleagues who simply don't want to fix

things. >> a bipartisan spending deal could be released as early as sunday, but it's still not clear whether house speaker mike johnson would except that agreement reporting in washington. i'm trevor shirley. san ramon valley, unified faces a lawsuit over its handling of an alleged assault of a student. >> but lawsuit claims a theater arts teacher gave hand massages to female students and made them sit on his lap. we have reached out to the school district for their response to this lawsuit. we have yet to hear back. and bill would allow californians to drink alcohol in more public spaces. bill signed by governor newsom last year allowed the city of san francisco to create special areas for drinking alcohol on streets or sidewalks. the new bill in its current form would expand this power to all cities and counties. and today in the east bay, oakland, sports fans, host fans fest at jack london square. many fans continue to protest the a's. we recently location attempts to las vegas. several former players for the a's are set to attend today. representatives

coming along with a wry board is taking a break in winter because it will be back. >> as we get into next week, it looks like and that means some showers as early as late tomorrow into monday. but there's a bigger dose into next weekend. for now, the beauty shot coming in from sfo. and by the way, there's about a half-hour delay cooking here because of the construction on runways and so forth unrelated. obviously the weather, nice red hue had orange hue of going on a little bit earlier. but as the sun comes up, a little higher that's eroding away temperature check for a lot of readings in the 40's. some lower 50's like delay. what? 50 54 for san diego or san francisco or other. 48, meanwhile, for half moon bay and also matching that in san jose where a little warmer to the north and to the south midday. but cooler now. but we're going to make up for all of that into this afternoon. now. little spoiler for the weekend as a package. now we get to tomorrow. looks like we'll get some of those scattered clouds working in here now, variable clouds, howell phrase that. but it will look at all like today, little cooler as well. but some she scattered showers are possible, but most likely that

will happen after sunset on sunday into your monday. but looking sweet for today. lot of 60's going on by the afternoon. even some lower 70's as well. we'll into that in your 4 zone forecast and check into the extended for that extended traffic as well. stephanie. >> all right, dave, thank you. the family of san ramon is recovering from a fire that destroyed their home to make matters worse as kron four's philippe djegal learned that property was not insured. >> lindsey do and her daughter maddie say the past week has been surreal. their family has been living with their neighbors next door since their home in san ramon caught fire saturday night and struggling. trying to get through day by an electrical malfunction caused a spark eventually shooting flames through the house, destroying the interior. it's but i mean. >> we'll see what happens on the positive side. the family of 4 plus 3 dogs are all alive, but lin's says her husband has lived in this home. his entire life. they

renovated the place themselves. and lost her wedding ring in the fire as well as both her and her husband, cell phones, which they left behind and grateful that her family is here. >> i don't want to seem like i'm just like petty person, those material things mean something and we we want we want that. but now they're gone. making matters worse. the home is not insured. everything last is gone. >> a gofundme fundraiser has been set up online to help the family recover. all of our neighbors have been like extremely gracious. >> they've been giving us whatever we need in past. >> wonderful them say, say it's too soon to say whether or not they intend to move back into the home after the rebuild. right now they're focusing on themselves. everything is just materials and they can get replace. it's not that big of a deal, but anything that helps us get off our feet from literally 0. is very much appreciated.

appreciated and welcome in san ramon, philippe djegal, all kron. 4 news as california grapples with the opioid crisis. a state lawmaker is sounding the alarm over a newly emerging drugs. >> our capitol correspondent eytan wallace takes a look at the new legislation targeting the problem. >> this is an on going crisis. some remember just me baynes not mincing words about the opioid epidemic impacting the golden state and the nation. data from the california department of public health showed in 2022. more than 6,470 california has died of fentanyl poisoning that you're alone coming out to about 124 deaths per week. but now there's concern the crisis could get even worse due to this new and emerging drug known as i often referred to as tranq and trying don't we need to work harder to defeat this. she says that noting tranq is not approved for human use. specifically. it's a non opioid tranquilizer

typically usld on horses and in specialized veterinary settings. but in humans, it's been known to cause severe flushing rooms, sedation and death. still, it's become increasingly prevalent in communities and on the streets where it's been found mixed with fentanyl and other opioids. a combination deemed even more lethal and fentanyl alone. what's worse? the problem seems to be getting worse. a study from the centers for disease control found in 2019, the national monthly percentage of poisoning deaths involving a mixture of fentanyl and silencing stood at 3%. but that number increased to 11% in 2022, we need to get. >> ahead of this. instead we're falling way behind. that's why baynes herself, a central valley medical doctor with years of experience treating drug addiction has introduced ab 30 29 to increase silencing testing statewide and categorize it in the drug schedule. classification system originally created to educate the public on the drugs addiction, potential and its potential to cause harm. it

also helps determine penalties for drug dealers and traffickers and but can become addicted to what's on the streets. people don't understand the problem. >> this is a lack of addiction services. this is a lack of planning and prevention for the drugs that are hitting the streets. but at the same time, it also comes down to making sure people are held accountable for dealing drugs. it's both. >> and doctor bain says it's always a good idea to have the overdose reversal medication. narcan on hand, it could save a life reporting at the state capitol. a tom wallace kron. 4 news. >> investigators in arizona say cold case victim may have bay area connections. the sheriff's office in mohave county, arizona, released a sketch of the victim identified as luis alonso parade. us. his remains were found by hikers back in 1976. but he was not identified until last october. investigators say perez was originally from el salvador.

they believe he worked for the coast guard and the navy in the bay area for about 10 years before he was killed. on the peninsula. 17 year-old is behind bars after allegedly breaking into a building on in pacifica on wednesday. officers responded to reports of a robbery at the former siebel building right off hig way. police arrived, they found the teen trying to run off. officers arrested the suspect on multiple burglary charges last month. siebel closed up shop for good after 60 years. where your money, anger and frustration from some pg and e customers over news. the company increased profits by almost 25% last year. but customers didn't see any relief on their bills. kron four's dan kerman reports. >> but blew my by fremont resident robert carter is talking about pacific gas and electric. the utility just reported a profit for 2023 of 2.2, 4 billion dollars. that's almost a 25% increase over the previous year and comes following a series of rate

camps without the offer of immediate housing. we asked the judge to pause the lawsuit so that we're not wasting significant public resources continuing to litigate this case. >> when it's very possible that a decision could come down to change the legal landscape. san francisco city attorney david chiu is referring to the supreme court's review of grants pass be johnson. >> chew says the decision by the high court would affect the basis of the lawsuit brought forth by the coalition on homelessness. the organization filed suit against the city in 2022. after accusing officials of violating the law by removing homeless encampments without providing alternate housing. san francisco is currently under a preliminary injunction preventing officials from removing street encampments unless the city gives those people some place to live to says the injunction and the grants pass case have made it difficult for cities to address conditions on the streets. the recent rulings that put our city really an

partygoers mistaking them for rival gang members. he is scheduled to be sketch sentence next month and faces a life sentence. the teen's identity has not been released, but they have been charged for the shooting. structure workers in the hospital after being electrocuted in san jose. it happened just before 11 o'clock friday morning. fire officials say 2 men were working near some power lines near the intersection of zenker road and elijah street when one of them make contact with the power line, at least one of the men suffered burn injuries. it took crews just over 3 hours to rescue the met. one of the things that pg e wants to reiterate is any time you're working around any high voltage lines, you want to stay at least 30 feet away. obviously in this those protocols weren't followed. >> so we weren't sure what happened there. >> we're told the men were contracted to work for a nearby apartment building. state investigators are looking into what happened. well to east bay cities are recovering from a cyber attack on thursday locally city manager declared a state of

emergency pleasant hill. officials say they caught the problem in their systems are not at risk at this time. no word yet. if the hackers got a hold of any private information, it's not clear at this point if the 2 incidents are related. the city of oakland got 14 million dollars to develop this land into new housing units for formerly homeless seniors. the land is near william patterson park in the area of hedges avenue, santa clara street in east oakland. the plan is to build 40 new homes. mayor sheng thao says the money is part of project homekey which is help the city secure. more than 450 permanent housing units since 2020. the 48 year-old woman is recovering in the hospital after a home invasion robbery in san francisco. police say the robbery took place thursday night on dakota street in potrero hill where 2 women broke into the home and stole some cash. investigators say the victim's injuries are not life-threatening. 2 thieves, they say are still on the loose. 2 teens face

>> big story we're following this morning. we could be just days away from a government shutdown. >> the u.s. is set to run out of money at the end of next week. trevor shirley has the latest. >> there's no sign that congress is close to avoiding a shutdown. the clock is ticking. and so what do we do next? congress returns to washington monday with a handful of federal agencies said to shutter march 1st and the remaining ones march 8th leaving lawmakers little time to broker a deal. i hope we can do that. i don't think anybody wants to you know, according a government shutdown here. but we've got to actually move towards a regular appropriations process. a shutdown would close all but the most essential functions of government along with shuttering national parks and museums. >> both sides have tried to assure the public a shutdown won't happen, but that's appearing less likely. do you want to close mount rushmore? so the southern border could be open hard, right? republicans are pressuring speaker mike johnson to reject any government funding bill

new legislation targeting the problem. >> this is an on going crisis. remember just me baynes not mincing words about the opioid epidemic impacting the golden state and the nation. data from the california department of public health showed in 2022. more than 6,470 california has died of fentanyl poisoning that you're alone. >> coming out to about 124 deaths per week. but now there's concern the crisis could get even worse due to this new and emerging drug known as i often referred to as tranq. and trent, don't we >> need to work harder to defeat this. she says that noting tranq is not approved for human use. specifically. it's a non opioid tranquilizer typically used on horses and in specialized veterinary settings. >> but in humans, it's been known to cause severe flushing wounds, sedation and death. still, it's become increasingly prevalent in communities and on the streets where it's been found mixed with fentanyl and other

with the family this weekend, our next guest might have the perfect option for you. joining us live now to share more is xavier buck, executive director of the doctor, huey p newton foundation and black panther party museum in oakland. good morning to you. good morning. alright, thanks so much for being with us here. bright and early coming from oakland. tell us a bit about the museum. >> yeah. so we just found the black panther party museum last and really get in to fill the void. it's pretty well known in the gym eyes now that the fbi had a program to discredit, disrupt and destroy black leaders. this included people like martin luther king junior include a rosa parks. i also included folks like up noon and bobby seale in pretty much every single panther that was part of the party. and so part of that boy, part of campaign that the fbi had with the spread misinformation. and so later, this year will be celebrating 50 a year since the black panther party was founded. and there's still a lot of misinformation. so now we have a museum where people

come in. look at the information based on credible sources. a look at these archives and look at the exhibition's. we have to called red ones revolution grain aboutnthe rank and file panthers in the second. one is each one teach one the history of the oakland community school. wow. i yourself get involved with all of this. you know, i was a grad student at cal. those getting my phd in history. bears go and i kind got wrapped up into this had something to do with the research i was doing. and i had a desperate need to be a part of the community in oakland. and i really feel fortunate that i started to work with the doctor, keeping the foundation of the volunteer for 2 years before we fund raise enough money to grow our team and to become full-time as much a position for myself. well, congratulations on that. and for starting such an important initiative in the community. >> out oakland, so tell us a bit about what people can expect as the and to the museum and they start walking through yeah. >> first of all, use it when people come to the museum,

they stopped for a second pause because it means so much to the community. you'll see a lot of people that you may know a lot of people walking to the oakland community schools have say, oh, that's my uncle. that's my on i know that teacher from back in the and the revolution. a great exhibit about the rank and file panthers. these the folks that are usually looked over there, not usually in the books and not the leaders of the organization, but they really carry the black panther party forward. and so folks often proud to see themselves because the panthers still walking amongst have to see family members or they have to say, hey, that person feb mean the free breakfast program. back in the so it is still a lot of pride when you walk into the museum. that's incredible. and for people who are first timers to the history and what are some particular artifacts or information stories that that they really shouldn't be missing. yeah, i mean, you know, i brought a couple cards, we have a portion of the exhibition where people get to have their own voice to what they see something going about local community school they can to then right what they want, what how impacts them this person said as

someone who grew up in the south and receive free breakfast of the child, it was these memories as something so small. you grant that played a major role in my life. this person said hearing the way these children are nurtured and celebrated makes me want to cry. i see the thriving in these photos learning about the ways the staff community, parents and students all collaborated on the children's growth and development as an educator and someone who has victimized by public school system. this exhibit is incredibly heartwarming. and one more is i can feel the love that inspired this. i can feel the love that inspired. that's what people are going through at this scene. is artifacts nuggets from the life and the newspaper or maybe it's the work sure you used to sit in. maybe it's a the yearbooks community school plenty of artifacts look through. but what is this is that this is a community museum. so it's an exchange. people go witness what the black panther party did and they have a chance to reflect

and communicate about. how do they take these this blueprint to the communities today all and well, custer. you brought a couple of texas. well, like a walk us through what you brought. yes, like the very reflective of the museum. this book right here is called the black panther party service to the people programs it was edited by the first that executive director of the doctors up to the foundation. david hilliard, his office, also the chief of staff of the has a foreword by cornel west. and this talked about the over 65 about the programs that the black panther party had. these are things that we talk about in the museum. so everybody knows about free breakfast for school many less people know about the free medical clinics, the free ambulance services, things like they have a shoe factory. they would distribute shoes. they have things. the simplest free pest control. they seniors today. it's usually wouldn't get robbed, right? all these things, whatever the community needed in that moment, they served them in the absence of what they felt like. maybe the government should have been doing. and so that's why i want to bring that book this

so that we're not wasting significant public resources continuing to litigate this case. >> when it's very possible that a decision could come down to change the legal landscape. san francisco city attorney david chiu is referring to the supreme court's review of grants pass be johnson. >> chew says a decision by the high court would affect the basis of the lawsuit brought forth by the coalition on homelessness. the organization filed suit against the city in 2022. after accusing officials of violating the law by removing homeless encampments without providing alternate housing. san francisco is currently under a preliminary injunction preventing officials from removing street encampments unless the city gives those people some place to live to says the injunction and the grants pass case have made it difficult for cities to address conditions on the streets. the recent rulings that put our city really an impossible situation. >> of balancing our compassionate approach with

the driver refused and led police on a chase. police say the suspect's car then collided with another car park near the richmond high school. when an officer got out of his patrol car to orrest the suspect. police say the suspect drove towards the officer and hit him. police are now looking for a red 2018 chevy malibu with california license plate 8 z you age 2 to 7. police say the front windshield should be damaged and the officer who was hit by that car again, fired 2 rounds at the car. the officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. and oakland man is convicted in a father's day shooting that left 3 people dead and 4 others injured enrichment. it happened 3 years ago at a house party and ramirez calma was convicted on 3 counts of first-degree murder and 4 counts of attempted murder. prosecutors say ramirez como and a teen opened fire on a group of partygoers mistaking them for rival gang members. he is scheduled to be sentenced next month and faces

a life sentence. the teen's identity has not been released, but they have been charged for the shooting. a construction workers in the hospital after being electrocuted in san jose. it happened just before 11 friday morning. fire officials say 2 men were working near some power lines near the intersection of zenker road and the street when one of them make contact with the power line, at least one of the men suffered burn injuries. it took crews just over 3 hours to rescue the man. one of the things that pg e wants to reiterate is any time you're working around any high voltage lines, you want to stay at least 30 feet away. obviously in this those protocols weren't followed. >> so we weren't sure what happened there. >> we're told the men were contracted to work for a nearby apartment building. state investigators are looking into what happened. 2 east bay cities are recovering from a cyber attack thursday, oakley city manager declared a state of emergency pleasant hill. officials say they caught the problem in their systems are not at risk at this time. no word yet. if the

hackers got a hold of any private information, it's not clear at this point if the 2 incidents are related. the city of oakland got 14 million dollars to develop this land into new housing units for formerly homeless seniors. the land is no william patterson park in the area of hedges avenue in santa clara street in east oakland. the plan is to build 40 new homes. mayor sheng thao says the money as part of project homekey which is help the city secure more than 450 permanent housing units since 2020. if you plan to be in santa rosa this weekend, part of westbound highway 12 will be closed for road repairs. the closure between santa rosa and on avenues is set to be in place through monday morning. at 5 o'clock with full closures at night in partial ones in the morning highway 12 eastbound stays open for a full list of when those closures will happen. you can head to our website kron 4 dot com. take a look at this. the ground still very wet and piedmont after the storm we saw earlier this week. it was so damp out

movie director leo jung. good morning to you, leo. good morning, stephanie. oh, my goodness. congratulations on the nomination. that's huge news. yeah, thank cited how did you guys find out? >> oscars, announce the nominations at 05:30am, sometime in general? remember the specific they write an early try i was watching the live announcement was just thrilled and surprised. stroll. congratulations you. and i had a chance to watch this film. it's a really beautifully done of piece of work. >> can you tell us a bit about the story line here because it really i mean, for me, i got the sense that this was very personal for you, right, right, right. so island between is a 20 minute short that explores the complex relationship between taiwan, china and the u.s.. but it's told through my personal perspective, as i visit the islands of kinmen, which are the small islands right on the border between taiwan and china. yeah, it's a really,

really fascinating point of geography of people were to look it up on a map because it is considered part of taiwan. and yet it is very, very close to china. yeah, i mean of a piece of the news that the old archival news that we found from the u.s. i actually compares the cayman islands to west you know, i think both are remnants of cold war that is, you know, with that, obviously that germany has resolved and reunified, but taiwan and china still in this stalemate not knowing where the future is for for the situation. and we are playing parts of the film right now people and people at home are watching this. >> it really, again, just beautifully shot. beautifully told such an interesting a subject matter that you're choosing to explore here. what inspired you to want to look into this subject? >> but, you know, i i was born and raised in taiwan. and when i moved to the u.s. a move to san jose and actually good 3

decades in the and i always wanted to tell how many stories for the international audience for the last 7 years or so. i've been in taiwan and i feel like, you know, as we were chatting earlier, there's more and attention paid to taiwan and they're more and more taiwanese. and i asked by who are embracing are taiwanese identity. i felt like this was the perfect time to sheriff something like this. and to really introduce the complexity of the situation to their national audience and walk us through your creative process as well. so i actually want to just 2 chauvin with the locals in cayman island, interacting with each other and kind of getting to know that different parts of the but at some point, the team and i decided that i should be in the film because in my, you kind of unique being somebody who is from taiwan. but now also, you know, has an american

passport. all right. and also spent a lot of time in china working we thought that my perspective will offer a really interesting view at this sort of, you know what i say the film is kind of a dysfunctional try and go to triangular relationship of these 3 countries have yes. and what is the message that you hope that people will take away from your film after they're finished watching it? >> i feel like increasingly the world is becoming more tribal. people are picking i want kind of challenge and push people to really see the gray, you know, in between like us and them to really be more empathetic about experiences that are different from from your own to really understand that human beings are not simple. you know, binary. yes, not exactly a so. so, you know, i i feel like if we can really think more that way, maybe the world will be a more peaceful place. and i while i want to make sure we get this out here, but people can actually stream.

state and the nation. data from the california department of public health showed in 2022. more than 6,470 california has died of fentanyl poisoning that you're alone coming out to about 124 deaths per week. but now there's concern the crisis could get even worse due to this new and emerging drug known as i often referred to as tranq and trend. don't we need to work harder to defeat this. she says that noting tranq is not approved for human use. specifically. it's a non opioid tranquilizer typically used on horses and in specialized veterinary settings. but in humans, it's been known to cause severe flushing wounds, sedation and death. still, it's become increasingly prevalent and communities and on the streets where it's been found mixed with fentanyl and other opioids, a combination deemed even more lethal than fentanyl alone. what's worse? the problem seems to be getting worse. a study from the centers for disease control

found in 2019, the national monthly percentage of poisoning deaths involving a mixture of fentanyl and silencing stood at 3%. but that number increased to 11% in 2022, we need to get. >> ahead of this and said we're falling way behind. that's why baynes herself, a central valley medical doctor with years of experience treating drug addiction has introduced ab 30 29 to increase silencing testing statewide and categorize it in the drug schedule classification system originally created to educate the public on the drugs addiction, potential and its potential to cause harm. it also helps determine penalties for drug dealers and traffickers and but can become addicted to what's on the streets. people don't understand the problem. >> this is a lack of addiction services. this is a lack of planning and prevention for the drugs that are hitting the streets. but at the same time, it also comes down to making sure people are held accountable for dealing drugs.

>> dan kerman kron, 4 news. california will spend more than 500 million dollars to upgrade water infrastructure in the state. senators alex padilla and laphonza butler announced the grant from the epa. the money will focus creating more on creating more clean drinking water by replacing old pipes and improving storm drain systems. temperatures go. police could soon make fewer traffic stops. the city's police commission passed a measure this week barring stops for low-level offenses, including failure to display or properly mount license plates, registration tags and driving with expired registration. the move comes after an analysis of sfp. d's data revealed black drivers were stopped at 6 times the rate of white drivers earlier this month, community members sent a letter to the commission requesting the policy move forward after being put on hold for 2 years. and we did receive this statement from the police officers association in san francisco in response, it says in part, quote, the police
