now. >> we're trying caltrans is trying the best they can to get the same open up. it's probably not going to be today with more and more than likely tomorrow. it's it's still pretty up at the top. and the latest from chp, how the roads are looking for the rest of the weekend. >> kron 4 news at 10 begins right now. >> when fun time from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news. >> good evening and thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 10. i'm dan thorn. our top story tonight is the major snowstorm in the sierra heavy snow has been dumping down and strong. wind gusts are creating the current blizzard-like conditions out there. let's take a live look right now at i-80 tonight. this is in 80 89 area. you can maybe just one emergency crew out there. not many people out on the roads, which is a good thing because it is dangerous. kron four's gayle ong. joining us now with a look at the forecast again. >> hello, dan. yes, we're

going to day 3 of our blizzard warning. treacherous roads out there. so travel is not advised. i'm sure we'll hear about that soon in our report. so here is a live picture of the golden gate bridge back here in the bay area. we have some raindrops on the ground and we're starting to see another round of showers moved through the bay area. here's a look at our rain totals from the last 24 hours. we picked up an inch over an inch in our santa cruz mountains. mount diablo picked up an quarter of an inch over at santa rosa and san yesterday. gosh, it was pouring down buckets that we heard our newsroom shaken. so san cisco picked up an inch of rain for the last 24 hours. a quarter of an inch in the south bay in san jose. you can see our radar lit up in green and blue. that's the snow and the rain. and we have some unstable weather. unsettled weather today. this afternoon we had a 2 torney at least 2 tornado warnings, one closer to us here over the hollister area. and another one in the central valley. so we have

we've seen those pop-up that just tells a story how unstable the air is. looks like that area. monterey county is getting a break from the rain and now showers are starting to move through san francisco. as you can see, concord is getting some moderate downpours there. danville hayward, san mateo as a pullback here. it is not over yet, but now the heaviest part looks like we'll be over after tonight. we're just going to see some lingering showers will be some isolated thunderstorms. we have a bit of a breeze out there as well. we're coming out of a wind advisory firm this morning. so breezy conditions as this cold front moves out. the next story now will be the temperatures. so temperatures right now in the low 40's in the north bay. that will be a frost advisory posted and i will have details in my extended forecast and we'll talk more about that here. snow, back to you. >> all right, gail, thank of the sierra nevada. and she mentioned is still getting pummeled by that plow. that powerful blizzard. a long stretch of i-80 in several ski resorts still closed tonight because of the gusty winds and the snow kron four's man harry caught up with chp in truckee about how things are looking up there. amanda.

>> the officer says if you're not in the area right now, don't go there. they're trying to get the roads cleaned up and to do so. everyone has to stay off of highways completely shut down and cars broken down have become familiar sights in truckee, california highway patrol officer chris patten, the station near 89 south i-80. he says 80 won't be open anytime soon. this looking towards the summit if you can see it. so it's a it's a white out right now. >> we're trying caltrans is trying the best they can to get the saying thing up. >> it's probably not going to be today more and more than likely tomorrow. it's it's still pretty treacherous up at the top. he says last night they did see some people braving the wrote spent today was quieter. people are actually i think they're staying home and >> and just in time, the fire probably he says chp and other emergency responders are doing what they can to help people in need. >> all their vehicles have four-wheel drive and good

check the road conditions before you leave just to make sure everything is safe in the studio. amanda hari kron. 4 >> all right, amanda, thank you. we're taking a look at the sfo tonight. the airport seeing more than 400 delays and more than 30 cancellations. oakland international airport also seeing some delays they had about 70 today so far and san jose mineta has had more than 50 delays and of course, stick with kron 4 for the very latest on the storm and a rainy conditions head to our website kron 4 dot com. you can scan that qr code right there and it will take you there. the rain did not stop hundreds of people from protesting in san francisco today. they were calling for a cease-fire between hamas and israel. this is video from the citizen app showing those protesters marching through the financial district. and this march is a part of what's being called a global day of action for palestine citizen video from new york. also showing thousands of people taking over the streets there as well marching in support of

palestine. and coming up the next half hour, we're going to have the latest on the cease-fire talks as the war reaches 5 months. new at 10 police in oakland investigating shooting today. officers responding to telegraph avenue near the oakland grab and go market. investigators say no one was struck by gunfire, but our camera captured a window that appeared to have been shot out. also in the east bay, oakland, police are investigating a series of burglaries at businesses and temescal alley. investigators say a number of people broke into the stores and stole merchandise friday morning. the burglars ran away before the police got their business owners say they're hoping they eventually get caught. >> i got a call and the early morning on friday from our property manager. and soon as i saw his name on my phone in the early knew that something was not good or 2 guys. they came earlier in the night and jumped the fence and scope sally out and then they came back later on with the truck

and they came and broke the windows and just filled their bags up and then took it out to the truck and drove off. so. >> anyone with any information about these burglaries is being asked to calm oakland police. kron. 4 is your local election headquarters. a new poll shows a tight race with former baseball star in republican steve garvey getting strong support and he's going up against political veterans like democratic representatives, katie porter, barbara lee and adam schiff, rachel menitoff reports on the numbers. >> in a turn of events, democratic representative adam schiff and his republican opponent, steve garvey. now in a statistical tie in california's senate primary. this according to the latest polling friday out of the institute of governmental studies at uc berkeley, which shows garvey with 27% support and shift at 25 representative katie porter came in 3rd at 19%, followed by representative barber lead with just 8%. another poll

this week, though, shows shift on top. so at this point, it's anyone's game. his car for someone that surrounded by. >> the suns to wiens, gustavo tennis is planning to vote for the former dodger baseball star and political newcomer. this coming super tuesday. do like that. he's not a career that's one of the things that i love ida. well, adam schiff has been the longtime front runner. this recent polling indicates a large increase in support for garvey over the last few weeks. this became evident when they consolidated the support of republican voters. 67 1% of whom back garvey. my initial reaction is that the poll is not going to be the same as the outcome on tuesday night. loyola marymount university law professor jessica levinson says take this poll with a grain of salt. >> but this is a reflection that steve garvey has support from likely voters. steve garvey is really just running against himself in terms of

getting the republican and are moderate vote. adam schiff is running against katie porter and barbara and that's a much more competitive race. in an interview with news nation's chris cuomo. garvey says this shows his message is resonating and let's break down this snarky. >> career politicians who are running for power, but i'm running for the people. marianne cherry voted for barber leave and says she's concerned by garvey's elevated standing in the polls. >> and don't think he really has the best interests of californians in mind this. adam schiff supporter says she was shocked by recent stats but still feels confident in her candidate of choice. very surprising. >> that steve garvey is ahead. >> and in fact, i'm not sure i believe that he's ahead. so i urge everyone to get out and vote. >> that was rachel menitoff reporting for us tonight. and a reminder kron 4 is your local election headquarters. join us on election day next tuesday for live results from around the bay area. coverage begins right here at 08:00pm.

you can see the snow piled up there and it disappeared. turn into a small little window, honest there. gayle on joining us with a little bit more about all of this. no, you got to be excited about this >> it is a lot of snow and it is dangerous. but of course, you know, we're all excited for the long term benefits of but you have take a look at our radar. it's pretty busy as snow in the sierra. we'll get to that in a minute. let's start in the bay area because we have a road whether we're starting to see another round of showers moved through and it's been an active day pretty much since at least thursday, right? we've been and that unsettled pattern. but today, specifically we saw at least 2 tornado warnings in fresno area and in the monterey, san benito area in hour at the central earlier this evening. so that area hollister, that's where that warning was issued. looks like they're all getting a break from that rain now and they take you through the futurecast model. we can expect. this is hour from now. it looks like we have quite a bit of a break here. could see some snow north of santa rosa, far north coast mountains. we

could see some gusting up there and then more spotty showers here. just some moderate rain. the passing through fremont in about an hour. and then this is sunday morning. we could see more unsettled weather lingering light showers may be heavy at times and then also snow over by clear lake. so, yeah, i don't know in the sierra we may get around snow as well. and this is lunchtime. so nevado santa rosa, want to bring your rain gear going to head out and about. and then as you can see, the east oakland, and you may see some breaks from the rain as well. and this is sunday evening dinner time you can see more snow up there by clear maybe some light rain passing through san francisco. so it's going to be unsettled. just keep that rain gear unsettled. through monday, we may at least get a break until maybe thursday. what you'll see in the seven-day forecast. these are the wind gusts will be breezy throughout the night. are just coming out of a wind advisory that expired this morning. it should taper off by sunday morning. and then by the afternoon sunday, we'll get that breeze back as that

cold front moves through our area. and let's talk about the sierra now. this is how it looks like we've got feet of snow out there. a winter storm warning in place not only in the sierra as you can see, but also here over by clear lake and our local mountains. but, you know, we're going into day 3 of the blizzard warning. so treacherous road conditions. we just showed you and amanda harry's report in a few minutes ago. so we still have those whiteout conditions. high winds. we're talking about 100 miles an hour. winds over by palisades tonight. power outages. we're already seeing some images of some damage from the winds over at soda springs. so will be surveying. that has a more pictures come out and, you know, not a deal to travel, maybe at least monday or tuesday, but it should take some time with the flow going out there with clearing out the roads here. the next round of a snow we're expecting maybe another feet or 2. and the 24 hours of the ski resorts already got 2 feet of snow left night. and yes, it's going to be great in the long

but, you know, traveling it's going to be a mess out there. yeah, be smart and safe right now and then take advantage of it like we exactly. yeah, i look forward to seeing that totals in the end. maybe tomorrow. monday. >> to see what okay. thank you. well, speaking palisades. >> take a look at this. wow. yeah. this is some new video that we got in tonight. their cruise posting these on acts and their website palisades plans on reopening tomorrow. it's going to be a delayed opening, though they're aiming at around 10, 30 in the morning. just like gale said, they've seen over 2 feet of snow in just the last 24 hours. now back here in our area, more rain means a lot more trouble out on the roads. the chp sharing these pictures of a crash off highway 17 in santa cruz. they're reminding people to slow down because the slick roads, no injuries were reported in this crash, though. so that's good thing. let's go to the north bay now where the city of sonoma has opened a warming center for residents looking to get out of the rain and the cold this

weekend. shelter can be found at the haven parking lot on weston on the street, a limited number of blankets and pillows will be made available. service animals are also allowed in there as well, which is nice. take a look at this. new video sent to us from a kron. 4 viewer. this is in el sobrante showing what appears to be either sleet or snow. very cool down they haven't seen something like this in a number of years. you can see the little girl there enjoying it. they probably never seen this in life. always an exciting sight to see things that just really don't happen here very often. all right. let's go to the north bay now where delay who police have arrested a man accused of setting a a fire inside of a target store. we're told the suspected arsonist caused more than 4 million dollars in damage last march and ice. this video from last saturday showing the fire burning in the paper towel aisle. the store has been closedhbecause of this and repairs are still ongoing

at the storm. the accused arsonist has not been named by police spotted. investigators are say they're thankful for the community's support helping find this suspect. it's been 2 years since san francisco launch text before tow where texas residents before the tow trucks get dispatched allowing residents to race to move their cars. well, according to the san francisco municipal transportation agency more than 16,000 vehicle signed up in just 2 years 130 tax have been sent and 70 people have been able to move their cars. sfmta board members say that means program is working. so if you want to get a warning that your car is about to be towed, you can sign up for the program today. they've got information on how to do that on our website. kron 4 dot com. new at 10 and alert for some trader. joe's shoppers, food, safety a ipection service department issuing a recall for steamed chicken soup dumplings, which are

delicious, but maybe not right now. inspectors say people reported finding plastic in their food that hard plastic, maybe from a permanent marker type pen. there've been no reactions, though, to this and no report of any injuries. pot make sure to why keep an eye on your steamed chicken soup, dumplings for any contamination. nasa astronauts are training for flight space flight off the coast of san diego, nasa and the department of defense are preparing for the day when the artemis 2 crew returns from flying around the moon. xavier walton reports. off the coast of california for astronauts prepared to make a splash in space exploration. this is all part of nasa's artemis campaign. we rise together. >> back to the and the next phase. a crewed mission lasting 10 days traveling roughly 685,000 miles around the moon just a few hours ago were floating around in the front porch in the middle of the pacific ocean at night

take a look at this video sugar bowl resort posting from donner summit saying actually they have some digging to do. i'd say night. they had about 2 feet. a brand new snowfall sugar bowl, though, says they're planning on reopening tomorrow, but they plan to have some delays because they got to conduct avalanche mitigation and dig out the resort. of course, the roads that lead to the resort. they say they're planning on some terrific skiing and riding the wet and windy weather. not really ideal for these girl scouts that were out selling their cookies. we found emma and julianne out in downtown campbell yesterday. they say they had to get a little creative to help get their merchandise to be safe and dry. >> and the cause, if it starts girl scout cookies what they get french. we want to the we

welcome back. interstate 80 still closed tonight. rihanna shadix says more after talking with drivers who have been waiting for the roads are reopened for the past. 24 hours. >> lots of new snow that continued falling overnight. a welcome sight for many skiers, but not so much for those behind the wheel, including this family from castro valley who had plans for fun in reno, 9 nieces and nephews are in the back the kids. want to see snow. >> doesn't snow on yeah. we had rooms and resignations to be canceled. all those. they tould not let us go freeway signs warn motorists of the road closures due to 0 visibility. >> caltrans workers in bright orange turn traffic away as only first responders pg and locals were allowed to pass

through by midday afternoon. it is snowing lightly. eastbound traffic is closed by caltrans and the cold facts area. >> and here in blue canyons elevation, you can see that the roadway has a layer of snow that is covering it exits like this one for the most part have not been plowed and a trucker tells me that further up the mountain. >> it has 0 disability. you can see further up the snow-covered road at blue canyon the skies are dark and ominous looking. >> back at the road, closure. this trucker from reno has been waiting for the roads to reopen since yesterday after arriving about 4.30, in the afternoon. he described the driving conditions he faced yesterday as he passed through. >> let us through, but it was still pretty everything got over some of the roads were off caltrans kept the roads closed all the way to the state line for several hours.

more heavy snow overnight. so we'll show that to hear conditions. right now. we're seeing snow showers around the lake, truckee, reno and carson city and temperatures in the 20's. here's a radar. it is bright right in the blue. you see there around the lake, all that snow activity. and as a zoom out, you can just see how busy it is. not only in tahoe that we are getting our own weather too. so here's the future cast model for the sierra. as you can see overnight. this is about one. 45 am a lot of snow activity along the slopes there. and then i take you through sunday morning. this will continue on. and then that blizzard warning expires mid morning around 10:00am. but as you can see, this is 02:00pm. they'll still be some snow activities. so will take some time for those roads to be plowed. i know some ski lifts are starting to open. people are already there. we've interviewed people who traveled from the bay area were over at kirkwood. >> so hopefully some lifts can open. hopefully it's safe. i will take some time for ski resorts, though, to dig out.

this is monday. you can see that activity activity starting to diminish. here's the totals. the ski resorts update the snow totals every morning. so this is from today. the last 24 hours over 2 feet of snow for most of the ski resorts with kirk would just above a a foot of snow there. as you can see. but moore is on the way. here's a projected snow totals over the next town couple of days here about of that. one to 2 feet of snow, 6 inches in the other lower elevations back here in the bay area. we're seeing wet roads as another round of showers is making its way through the region. temperatures are down to the 40's in san francisco. low 50's in san jose. upper 40's in livermore, low 40's in santa rosa. it's going to be pretty chilly. so the next weather headline will be the cold temperatures. there are frost advisory will be posted overnight for the north bay valley's down to the low 30's. we had one a few days ago, as you can see in our 10 at 10 outlook. when will we get a break from this train? well, looks like thursday. we're

seeing sunny skies and back in the 60's. but for now, we're going to deal with some chilly temperatures overnight inland and then we'll be in the 40's everywhere else. and then more showers. an unsettled pattern through at least late next week. and then take a look at next week, another round of rain. so we're keeping an eye on that. back to just doesn't give down. thanks a lot. all right. we've got some new video tonight from the uc berkeley central sierra snow lab. >> they posted this on acts saying it was a, quote, relatively calm day. but they say that they saw an increase in snow. absolutely. they said that the fluffy snow is here and it's going to be stacking up. yosemite national park remains closed this weekend because the winter storm, the park is going to stay closed through at least tomorrow at noon and possibly later, those already in the park were told to leave as soon as possible. and no later than noon on friday. so they're probably already gone. the national weather service saying that there's going to be a lot of snow as we've been reporting,

some areas are going to around 7 feet like the badger pass ski areas really going to be seeing a lot out there. all right. now, some developing news tonight. israel and hamas still in talks to release the remaining hostages. a senior u.s. official reports israel has essentially endorsed a framework which includes a six-week gaza cease-fire proposal and hostage release deal. and now it's up to hamas to agree to the framework also includes a larger influx of humanitarian aid in gaza. a response from hamas is expected tomorrow. the proposal comes as humanitarian

still held in captivity demanding the release. >> and calling on the u.s. to help. >> i'm tony, to, you know, president biden to continue to press all sites and not to relent agreement is signed to bring loved ones home. now. >> with the holy month of ramadan set to begin march 10th. the clock is ticking to get a hostage deal done. national security council spokesperson john kirby saying today that the israelis have effectively agreed to the framework of a six-week cease-fire deal that would lead to the release of sick, elderly and female hostages in the first phase. the ball's in hamas's court to accept it with thousands joining marches around israel in recent days, pressure is mounting on the israeli government to make a deal. but to this point, israel has put the blame on hamas for the stalemate. >> hamas are making outlandish demands in another orbitz and

other planets. it's almost can come back down to reality will be able to have a deal. >> meanwhile, in the wake of the aid convoy incident in gaza this week that left dozens of hungry palestinians dead, the humanitarian situation in gaza has a renewed focus. the un estimates one of every 4 people in the enclave are one step away from famine. >> a florida gaza is nowhere nearly enough. now snow nearly enough. >> president biden vowing to up the aid into gaza. the u.s. carrying out a joint operation with the royal jordanian air force today dropping food and supplies in from above parachute landing in gaza city as people on the ground collect the goods. >> and will this be enough for a school? is this enough? for 10,000 people? this is they're dropping. the u.s. says they're leaving the door open for more drops. meanwhile, a billy's flagged cargo ship sinking in the red sea today after being struck by a
