and emergency crews. good evening and thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 11. i'm dan thorn. a blizzard warning remains in effect. is i-80 in areas all around tahoe are still shut down tonight that relentless snowfall and the powerful winds just pounding the sierra. we're going to be taking a live look right now at truckee tonight. you can see the snow just piled up on the roads. there. this is near 80 at donner lake. that area dealing with this dangerous winter weather tonight. kron four's gayle ong. joining us now to look at the forecast. a hello? yeah. about 5 to 7 feet of snow over the last 72 hours. that's what some of the ski resorts have picked up. so there's going to be some great. >> snow's down the road and for our long-term. but it is dangerous still to travel. so as you can see our radar, not busy in the bay area. you see all that snow activity as we speak here and that blizzard warning actually extended. it was supposed to expire at 10:00am today and it has

extended until midnight and is some places out. 04:00am after that, it will be downgraded to winter storm advisory. so is still be slow going out there. as we've been telling you all weekend, it will take some time for caltrans to plow the roads. so just check in with them before you head out. and we're expecting another 2 to 4 feet above the 4,000 elevation. mark. so blowing snow and wind. blizzard conditions remain wind gusts 45 miles an hour back here in the bay area. we've had some rain since thursday and now we're getting a break from the heavy rain. here are the totals. mount diablo, 3 inches loehmann just under 3 inches or india and san francisco under 2 inches. santa rosa close to an inch of rain in san jose over an inch of rain, half an inch of rain. that is since thursday. here's the water year because we just started a meteorological springs. that's always a nice idea to check in on how we're doing the water. you're started october first. and as you can see, santa rosa, san francisco and san jose are

well above 100 for over 100% normal. oakland is at 92% right now. so some catching up to do. the wind speeds have calmed down and it looks like it will remain relatively calm tomorrow as well. current temperatures were down to the 30's in the north bay and 40's. so that will be the next weather headline. and already cooler 5 degrees down in napa at this time. 24 hours ago. so a frost advisory is posted once again out overnight. 01:00am until 09:00am tomorrow for our north bay communities. temperatures expected to be down to the low 30's and upper 30's. when i come back, we'll time out the future cast for you because we still have an unsettled weather pattern heading our way. back to you. >> i-80 is still closed tonight as this massive winter storm moves through. caltrans posting. there is no estimated time of reopening the road. crews are out right now doing their best to clear away all of that snow. and you can see they have their work cut out

for them. we also have some video showing the whiteout conditions along 80. >> a chp truckee sharing this scene of the intense snow that forced it to close between colfax and the nevada state line. and as more wind and snow is expected to move through the sierra kimberly cruz reports in colfax where cars cannot go further east as the interstate has been shut down for days now. and we're hearing from residents adapting to the weekend road closure. >> sitting at around 4,000 feet pines. is finally seeing some snow. and do a whole lot of it depends upon the year some years. it's a lot more intense. some years. it's a little bit easier. but this is to be expected if you live up here for locals who live in the small mountain town. the site of fresh powder snow isn't anything new? take it from this couple who has lived here for about 8 years. enjoy double flake. there's some parts of it that not cool.

like getting stuck in the snow and whatnot or losing power. but overall, as long as we have power like we're good to go, we can handle it. we've been doing this for years for others. it took some driving. to enjoy the experience. my kid this and he sort started was no. he was saying love that's good the snow check their in a push to showing that it's a snow here. so we just thought may get just good time. and we find this know you just in we love that. we come up here on the weekends just to have a cabin. >> so coming up on the weekends to enjoy peace and quiet of this area and with the snows, it's it's a bonus for us. snow plows in action. trying to keep roads in parking lots as clear as possible for cars traveling through the town. but with blizzard-like conditions, those in the area know it's best to be prepared. got the four-wheel-drive we've got would ready? we've got lewd.

>> and that was kimberly cruz reporting for us tonight. despite the heavy snow, some businesses in truckee state open for their customers. for some, it was a nice way to find some respite from the storm. hot coffee in a hot meal can go a long way in these frigid temperatures. some of those businesses were also a good place to find internet and power. >> we are open because we're just part of the community. so we tend to help so we have as coming today with driver's command and part of that today. don't want to be open to the community. >> and we also got some new pictures tonight from yosemite national park. it shows all that snow piling up as the blizzard was moving through. the national weather service says about 2 feet of snow fell in the valley. part of the park did partially reopen today, though, after being closed since friday. any winter campers are being told to bring a shovel so they can

get to their camp site. it's also recommended to have tire chains. if you're planning to visit the park this week because another more typical snowstorm is expected to move through within the next few days. here at home. the south bay even saw some snow. and this is a time lapse from mount hamilton, which is just east of san jose as cameras on top of the lick observatory. you can see the snow piling up there throughout the day. and yeah, very cl for more information on the very latest weather conditions. you can scan that qr code right there on your screen. it will take you to our coverage of the winter storm on our website. kron 4 dot com. in the south a burglar breaks into a san jose fire station and rand sachs. firefighters lockers. these pictures are from station 8 on east santa clara street. we're told a burglar broke in last night and still gear and personal belongings. the burglar also took a leaf blower, a mac book pro and some car keys. san jose police

though, say they eventually found the suspect and they were able to recover all of the stolen items. police are investing investigating a deadly hit and run. investigators say the person was struck near valley vista and sonoma boulevard friday night. 37 year-old victim was crossing the street when an unknown driver hit them and took off. the victim's name is being withheld until family is notified. this is vallejo's first fatal traffic collision of the year. on to some developing news tonight out of the middle east where a cease-fire deal could be reached in gaza before the holy month of ramadan. but negotiators say israel and hamas remain far apart on several key issues. this comes as airstrikes hit 2 buildings in the southern city of rafah today. those close to the negotiations say while there is progress, there is likely to take longer than a week to come up with a deal. israel says hamas has refused to provide a list of remaining hostages who are sick or

elderly. and back here at home in the bay area, thousands taking over the streets of san francisco this weekend in 2 different protests. kron 4 sarah stinson joins us in studio now with more. sara. >> dan, despite the rain this weekend, protesters, as you said, packed the streets of san francisco earlier today. there's a show support for the jewish community rallying against a rise in anti-semitism and on saturday, pro-palestine protesters demanded a ceasefire. those demonstrators eventually clashing with police. >> the war between israel and hamas still heavy on the minds of people all across the bay area weekend. protests taking over the streets of san francisco, one for israel and the jewish community and the other, a pro palestine demonstration calling for a cease-fire in gaza. together in this against anti-semitism. >> organizers say sunday's unity march was about standing up against the rise in hate

against the jewish community. rachel, that says anti-semitism has been surging since hamas is october attack on israel. >> and the war that's followed. but the last few people are free to go on the street say that i want to get epall of those people the natio saying almost 10,000 people to feel safe say that their jewish, talked in front of city hall. people chanted pleas for hamas to release but with no deal reached, the war continues. and so do the >> hundreds marched saturday in san francisco as a part of a global day of action for palestine. at one point, the protests turned violent video shows police pepper spraying demonstrators. sfpd tells kron 4 the group became violent and they had to respond to calls about assaults. >> vandalism and property damage. people both protests had one thing in common, an end to the fighting in

haley has won her first victory over donald trump and the gop primary race winning the district of columbia's republican primary. her victory halts the former president's sweep of the gop voting contests at least temporarily, though trump remains the races dominant front runner. there are only about 23,000 registered republicans in the nation's capital, which is heavily democratic. this comes as this week, a super tuesday, more than a dozen states, including right here in california have their primary elections. emily finn explains the significance of tuesday's election. this is a ship. >> that has a hole in it. donald trump is the home. nikki haley taking aim at her top rival for the gop nomination during an interview with news nation refusing to drop out of the race. as long as it is still competitive her remarks come in. the final stretch of for the most competitive day. so far, this primary election cycle super tuesday with 15 states casting their ballots. 36 1% of the republican delegates are up for grabs, meaning if former

president trump continues his winning streak, he will likely go on to secure the gop nomination and a twenty-twenty face off against president biden. hayley not ready to give up the fight just yet has been crisscrossing super tuesday states hosting campaign events in north carolina, massachusetts, maine and vermont this weekend. and i'm fighting because as long as 70% of americans >> say they don't want joe biden or donald trump as long as they're states out there that say they want their voices heard. we're going to keep doing it. trump while brushing off haley's attacks hit the campaign trail in north carolina and virginia saturday. his remarks appearing more focused on president biden. >> joe biden and his fascist that control him. are the real threat to democracy in this country. they are a big threat and they are corrupt. the biden administration wrapping up their campaign rhetoric is well, despite next tuesday's primary elections. more of a formality at this point, the first lady and barking on a tour of key battleground states campaigning in wisconsin, georgia and arizona

controls are in effect on i-80 no injuries were reported, though. back at home here. this is from san francisco or sutro tower cameras. little wet across the bay area today. kellan joining us a look at the forecast again. >> hello. well, let's side we are seeing a break in that heavy rain and we'll just see some leftover post frontal showers, very light rain as well. so you can even show show to you and our satellite and radar in a bit. so that's a nice break because we've had a lot of rain over on since thursday. so here's our satellite and radar. not really busy in the bay area. all the activity continues to be way up in the sierras. so we're just seeing some light showers move through. nothing major. so here's a future cast model. what we can expect, as you can see, you don't see a lot of yellow and red. we just see some clouds rolling in. some may be coastal drizzle around 06:00am for your monday morning drive as you start the week. and then this is lunchtime, noon. maybe some spotty showers there and the

same situation for the evening. and this looks like it will be the situation come tuesday and wednesday. be tuesday. wednesday, you'll see more rain activity in the north coast over by clear lake and u k rain totals over the next few days. we're expecting a quarter of an inch, maybe half an inch over at half moon bay. it's showing this will be from now until about wednesday or thursday. so let's go back to the sierra. this has been the big weather story for the last few days. the last 72 hours out there are ski resorts picked up 5 to 7 feet of snow. so that i know it's caused a lot of problems. but that's really good news for the long term. but we have treacherous road conditions that so remains of that blizzard warning has been extended until midnight tomorrow, expecting 2 to 4 feet above the 4,000 elevation. so still not safe po drive after this expires tomorrow morning. it will be downgraded to a winter storm advisory. so bring those chains and check in with caltrans on those road conditions. chilly temperatures in the north bay

as that frost advisory will be back again overnight until 09:00am with temperatures dipping down to the 30's and the rest of us will be waking up to the 40's. so bundle up. it's chilly out there. and then will be warming up to the 50's in the low 60's elsewhere. 7 day forecast so monday, tuesday, wednesday, unsettled weather, cloudy skies, a b, a shower or 2. and then we have sunshine on thursday friday. >> all right. sounds good down. thanks a lot. coming up in sports, the warriors looking to end the road trip on a high note were in boston taking on the celtics. kate rooney has the highlights and reaction coming up.
