stealing firefighter gear and their personal belongings. we'll talk about that. to protest over the weekend. take place in san francisco, calling for a cease-fire between hamas and israel. one turning violent. talk about that coming up. >> from the area's local news station. you're watching the kron. 4 morning far. >> good morning and thank you waking up with bright and early for the kron. 4 morning news. >> i'm reyna harvey. it was a stormy weekend, but most of all weekend indoors. yesterday was a little nicer, john. and i kind of wonder where we are in terms of the forecast today. >> yeah, you know what? we had weekend rain and weekend snow mostly up in the sierra nevada around 90 inches reported on some of our mountain tops out there, which was just the feed upon feet. that was forecasted. we are still looking at some closures up there and definitely still some power outages that pg and e is working out. you can see this view second ago, but it is disappeared. this was the golden gate bridge anyways. a

little bit of low cloud cover and do expect a couple of sprinkles this morning. mostly what we've got is just a really cold start. some frost advisories up in the north bay that cold air really gripping us now. any sort of sprinkle activity if you are above 1000 feet could be a couple of flurries on top of mount diablo this morning. now fairfield, fairfax, inova santa rosa and napa valley under spots that have fallen in the 30's right now. so what you've got to do is just throw on those extra layers today is going to be a much more consistently dry and calm day. but we still do have a round of rainfall and even some lingering snow fall up in the sierra. just a couple more inches of it at the next few days up there. you can see over san francisco right now, a brief shower moving overhead. and you do see some of those snow flurries up in the mountains east of san jose. but overall today is definitely a step back from that are weekend, whether that really was a wallop up in the sierra nevada also resulted in multiple inches of rainfall back here at home, passing

clouds today, highs in the mid to upper 50's staying cool. so keep those sweaters, those jackets on hand. but today is mostly a break from the rain showers likely to make a return overnight after they diminish later on this morning. as for your roads, things out, there are a little slick in some spots. we do have some showers rolling over san francisco right now and a few sprinkles over the bay bridge as well. so just a reminder to take it slow on a morning like this. you can see the evidence of a wet overnight on the san mateo bridge with the roadway having that noticeable. go listen to it. richmond center fell bridge at 7 minutes while the golden gate bridge. also having seen some showers over the past few minutes. so roadways are wet there. as you make your crossing rain. all right. on the eve of that, well, breaking overnight as santa rosa neighborhood shut down because of police activity. >> around 01:00am santa rosa. police issued alerts to commuters to avoid the bellevue ranch neighborhood. it's right in the area of sony point between bellevue avenue

and tom road. police have not said why the roads are shut down, but they say the street are going to close for several hours while they investigate. and our top story this morning, organizers of the campaign to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price say they've reached the signature limit. send that petition to the ballot. so in a social media post and organizers as they plan to deliver the petition to over 110,000 signatures to the alameda county register voters said 10 o'clock this morning in response supporters, a prize from the protect the wind campaign are demanding that the california secretary of state's office individually review its signature. the county is 10 calendar days to count like each and every signature. the savory calms for it will cost taxpayers 15 to 20 million dollars. well in the east bay, a shooting investigation continues in oakland on saturday. officers responded to telegraph avenue right near

the oakland grabbing the market. our camera captured a window that appear to have been shot out. police say nobody was hurt. motive is under investigation. now. in the north bay police arrested a man accused of setting a fire in a target store. well, we're told the suspect caused more than 4 million dollars in damages. the video from last saturday shows the fire burning in a paper towel. that incident forced the store to close for repairs. the suspect has not been named. police say they're thankful for the community's help in finding him. well in the south bay, a burglar breaks into a san jose fire station ransacked. firefighters lockers. these photos are from 8 stations from station 8. this is on east santa clara street or turtle bonenberger broke into its saturday night stole gear, personal belongings. the burglar also to the a leaf blower book pro car keys. san

jose police say they eventually found the suspect recovered all the stolen items. well, in san francisco, the israel-hamas war continues. a cease-fire deal has not been reached. you got thousands of people taking over the streets this weekend in 2 separate protest kron four's. sara stinson breaks it down for us. >> despite the rain, people packed san francisco's streets to protest the latest being on sunday. a march that was in support of the jewish community. and on saturday there's a pro-palestine protest and that was calling for a cease-fire in gaza. >> the war between israel and hamas still heavy on the minds of people all across the bay area weekend. protests taking over the streets of san francisco, one for israel and the jewish community and the other, a pro palestine demonstration calling for a cease-fire in gaza. together in this against anti-semitism.

>> vandalism and property damage. people both protests had one thing in common, an end to the fighting in all eyes remain on the middle east as we wait to see if israel and hamas can reach an agreement. >> i'm sara stinson reporting in the >> kron 4. we continue to put the focus on fentanyl. concerns are mounting in marin county is officials say there's been a four-fold increase in overdose deaths related to fentanyl since february 14th. the county has experience 5 suspected overdose deaths related to the deadly drug. officials say there's an uptick in contamination to wastewater by these deadly substances and emergency calls for non-fatal overdoses. drug overdoses are the leading cause of death for people under 55 in marin county. happening today. barry officials, are you holding a press conference on a bill aimed to help people that are experiencing homelessness. so they're gathering to help expedite progress for the

interim housing act 2024, which would help build safe interim housing for homeless families and individuals. state senator dave cortese in san jose mayor matt mahan. they're going to be attending. the press conference starts at 9.30 this morning. that's at evans lane in san jose. another big story we're following. you could soon see more waymo. driverless taxis traveling on the peninsula. state regulators approved that expansion. now, despite pushback from some local leaders, kron four's dan thorn has that story. >> waymo gets its wish to expand operations outside of san francisco. the california public utilities commission joining the dmv friday in allowing the driverless robotaxi service to move on to the peninsula. we've seen the circus of what's happened in san francisco. what i'm afraid of >> is that they're going to bring the circus. to san mateo county. >> san mateo county supervisor david kind has been protesting the expansion. he says waymo

still looking at some closures up there specially on those smaller roads. people still trying to shovel everything out. this is a look right up here, incline village and you can see the parking lot right here is that we shoveled off a little bit. got that view of the fence right there. but still a lot of drifts and still some snow coming down in those upper elevations, as you can see in the bay area. we're also not quite done with it just yet. we do have some light showers moving over san francisco in the bay right now. but for the sierra things are improving. really quickly. we do have those lingering showers up there in the form of snow fall right around lake tahoe. really moving forward. only a couple more inches. so as caltrans is able to get out there, get more and more cleared out the week. just looks better and better for your trips up to the mountains. future cast does show for us in the bay area. a few midday sprinkles mostly for the north bay. don't be surprised if you elsewhere. but today is definitely a step back from all that energy that we saw over the weekend. here's a look at tomorrow

morning. we will see some more showers moving on through tomorrow. comes along with the better chance of shower activity. then today will. so today's a bit of a breather tomorrow into early wednesday, we will see a resurgence of a few showers here and there, as you can see, but nothing super heavy as you can see in future cast for the sierra between now and wednesday, really as most as 6 inches of snowfall at the very crest of the sierra. that's about as much as you're getting. so we're not talking feet anymore. any remaining snowfall up? there is definitely just the leftovers. we still do have a winter storm warning for the sierra nevada as well as a few mountains right here at home up into the mendocino and lake county mountains just north of us. just a couple winter weather advisories. winter storm due to some lingering snow in those areas. and yes, still a lot of shoveling that needs to be done before. i would venture up into the sierra likely into tomorrow. now temperatures in the 50's today doesn't matter where you're at mid 50's up the coast. mostly upper 50's

elsewhere. burlingame at 58 degrees today. same for redwood city, south bay. temperatures just shy of 60 san jose. you'll get up to 59 today. mid 50's for the inland east bay with spots like san ramon at 55 oakland, walnut creek, you'll be at 57, same from antioch on over to the late. whoa petaluma at nevada and center fell view. leach be at 56 degrees. a look ahead. does show a few more showers lingering into your tuesday and wednesday, chance of a sprinkle or 2 today. but today i'm going to talk up his mostly cloudy. we will see a gradual increase in temperatures in a much calmer tail and to the week and much calmer weekend to look for 2 ahead of us as compared to this past weekend. as for your roads, what we there is a few wet spots for sure. we do have some showers actively working over the bay bridge right now that is making for a few wet spots. as you make your crossings. same over the san mateo bridge. some overnight showers last night, leaving you with some puddles richmond center fell as well as the golden gate. also having seen some showers over the past few

minutes. great. thank you, john, for that. kron 4 is your local election headquarters and more than 20 million registered voters in california. >> have received a ballot in the mail as far as how many sitting back. it's not a lot ballots are out. but according to political data, voter information service tracking ballot, a voter trends of the 22 million ballots sent out just 2 and a half million have been sent back. that means statewide turnout so far, just 11%. local data says based on these trends, turnout will improve slights but named plan on most of the voters being 65 years and older. >> the electorate is going return. a ballot is going to be close to 60%. seniors were there about a quarter of the registered voters. what's important is that when turnout drops california doesn't drop equally for all populations. this is a real negative impact on turnout among minorities, younger people renters and really does skew the kind

electorate that will decide not only the u.s. senate race but also local contest legislative races, congressional races, ballot measures all across the board. >> well, if you want to vote a reminder that you can drop off your ballot at a local polling center or you can send in the mail. it must be postmarked no later than this tuesday march 10. >> meantime, in the bay area on the latest numbers on ballots in the bay area from the secretary of state's office. as of february. 29, only a portion of ballots issued ahead of the election have been returned in multiple counties. alameda county, only 85,000, 945,000 ballots issued have been returned as of friday, santa clara county, only 123,000 1 million 32 thousand ballots have been returned. and in francisco, 63,000 of the 507. 1000 ballots, issues have been returned. a reminder, kron 4. we're going to be your local election headquarters. so join

>> all right. well, welcome back to the kron. 4 morning news here. we're going 05:30am. well, we had a weekend job. we saw whole lot of rain and some snow and earn about how much snow we saw on this year. i mean, it was feet of it. we had 5 feet reporting up to 9 feet at the very crest of the sierra. >> and some of those drifts because of gusts of wind around 100 miles per hour.

we're even more impressive than that. we do have 80 still closed this morning. so do hold off on your travel up into this year. but nevada, at least for the next few hours here, it does look like chp and caltrans caltrans should be opening up 80 leader on today. as for what we've got on the golden gate bridge, you can see this view a second ago because it was shrouded out by a few little spots of rainfall moving across the bay area. now you can see it, though, cold air across the region has prompted frost advisories up until 09:00am for marin. sonoma and napa counties. temperatures up there falling as cold as the 30's this morning. take a look at where we're sitting on our temperature map conquered. you're at 46. well, singer rosa napa as well as calistoga in cloverdale. well down into the 30's. so definitely cold start for north bay. neighbors. still some lingering snow up in the sierra nevada. only a couple more inches, though. so really paling in comparison to the feet up on feet of snowfall that we had been seeing where are setting for the bay area. we do have some light showers

alameda county district attorney pamela price. she's been on the job for a little bit more than a year now, but almost instantly she faced criticism from many people in the community, the group safe is behind us. that means save alameda county for everyone. that's the acronym they are behind this saying that she has been soft on crime, that she does not obey the will of the people in terms of enhancements. that is the sticking point for them. they want at least voters to decide whether or not she will remain in office for the next 4 years of her term. now, take a look at your screen. this is the group that is in support of pamela price. it's called protect the wind. this is what they had to say about the signatures and the possibility of a recall. it's as if successful, the board of supervisors would appoint an unknown individual to complete the remaining 4 years of da prices term as district attorney. and it also says

that has serious consequences for our democracy. that was the first line that they said if this is verified. as i mentioned, they have 10 days do this. the next question will be, how will this play out? will it be a special election where voters only get to decide this particular issue or will it be on a general election which means more voter turnout and that could happen a little bit later this year. so that's the next question. but first, things first, those signatures need to be submitted and they need to be a verified within a week and a half. back to you. well, thank you for that breakdown. there. so let's switch gears because the search is on for suspect after a string of burglaries happened in oakland. >> this was in the city's temescal alley. investigators say a number of people broke into stores there stole merchandise on friday morning. the burglars ran off before officers could get to the scene. now we heard from some business owners that were impacted by this.

>> on a call and the early morning on friday from our property manager. and soon as i saw his name on my phone in the early hours, i knew that something was not good or 2 guys. they came earlier in the night and jumped the fence and scope sally out and then they came back later on with the truck and they came and broke the windows and just filled their bags up and then took it out to the truck and drove off. so. >> well, if you have any information, you're asked to contact oakland police. state. governor newsom announcing a 10 point plan trying to help the city of oakland. that the strategy targeting street safety. the unification, including installing security cameras, creasing litter reduction, beautification projects councilmember dan kalb says these are not new ideas some of that happening for years now. but he says if the state bolster these efforts and he's board. >> more with the help we can get from the state that you know, the open is not an island and we've always as

preliminary investigation shows the fire started in the first floor laundry room damages are about estimated to be $500,000 family before they had to be evaluated for smoke inhalation taken to the hospital. the red cross is helping those displaced. well, a documentary telling the story of a lexus game. twenty-four-year-old oakley woman that went missing back in 2022, it's set to air on major streaming services. alexis, gabe disappeared in january of 2022. after months of searching, police determined was a victim of homicide after finding her partial remains. the documentary will highlight her story be featured on an episode of the series about to crime exact air date. we don't know yet, but it's set to air sometime between now and april. for your help this morning, the cdc, they're changing isolations

recommendations for people who test positive for covid. well coming out just talk with a medical expert on what this now means. >> for the last several years, testing positive for covid-19 in staying out of the office or school. now, that's not necessarily required. the centers for disease control says those who test positive for covid-19 no longer have to isolate for 5 days. they say if you test positive, but your symptoms are mild and improving and you're fever-free for 24 hours. you can return to work or school, but some things are changing and what's not changing is that. >> regardless of when you're positive, you need to continue to wear masks unless you can demonstrate you have a negative test that 10 day period is up. >> ucsf, infectious disease specialist doctor peter chin-hong says the cdc's new guidance puts the rest of the country in line with changes. california made at the beginning of the year. but the cdc's new covid isolation protocols also mean there's a greater risk. people could
