to tuck in its landing gear when all of a sudden one of its tires falls off. and then lands on a couple of cars in the employee parking lot. how they knew it. who knows? i mean, sometimes you don't know, especially with so many tires on an aircraft, but they knew it to the point where they had to make an emergency landing at lax. that plane actually was towed from the runways. so it would hopefully stay intact. no damage as far as its landing gear. got it to the gate where it will be looked at by federal investigators, the aircraft as well as the tire. the remaining passengers. we're talking 249 crew and passengers. they were put on another aircraft and then finally taken to osaka japan. so lots going on. actually 3 areas now that i think about it, the tire here, the plane at lax, los angeles and the passengers osaka, japan. so

whether it's an engineering problem and we've talked about aircraft, reena and daria for the past couple of months with alaska airlines, the boeing aircraft, whether it's an engineering problem this time once again or if it's a maintenance that's still pyears >> i will thank you for that break down their time now is 703. and another big story that we're following this morning. 2 people are dead. there was a murder that led to a chase that ended with a suicide. police say the suspect in the chase shot and killed a woman at a home in pleasanton. and then after that led police on a chase that shut down 5.80, right near stanley and for some. and harry has more. >> everyone i spoke to says this neighborhood is extremely quiet and the experience almost no crime. they say the situation is very sad, but they're grateful the threat is over a little bit strange and shocking. that's how people

live in this neighborhood described what happened thursday. saginaw circle near santa rita road and west lost see does boulevard covered crime scene tape amid a murder suicide investigation this morning around 11 o'clock >> i some bangs, apparently there was a gunshot at that time. i didn't recognize it as a quest on. this woman who didn't want to appear on camera. >> says she was home in pleasanton. police responded and found the victim dead with multiple gunshot wounds. that was a swath when they came in. she says she's lived in this complex since 1997, but she has never seen a police presence like this one. the shooting was then almost immediately followed by a police chase. there are requesting assistance. their officers were actively in pursuit of a known a murder suspect on 5.80. that pursuit ended in san leandro. >> near the benedict drive exit, the driver died from a

self-inflicted gunshot wound. the suspect vehicle while him pursue. >> crash. and at that point, there was a high risk staff as well as the standoff for approximately 30 minutes. it was determined that the suspect had to come to his own injuries. i saw on the news earlier. >> the 5.80, was shut down. and i said, that's crazy. that's a major freeway shut down for hours. then i came home to see police tape around her neighborhood and found out that it was related. tim parks as he chose to live here in pleasanton because it's a safe community. he never expected anything like this. >> he says he's not sure who the suspect or the victim. it's i don't know who live there. >> maybe i saw them, but i don't know if i know who does or not, it just a disturbed guy. didn't know how to control his emotions. i guess it's only thing goes through my mind. pleasanton police is handling the murder investigation. again, there is no threat to the public at

this time. >> in pleasanton amanda hari kron. 4 happening today. you 3 men charged with the shooting death of security guard. kevin as she deserve be back in court along gilbert hershel hale and shadihia mitchell face arraignment 8.30 this morning. kevin, as she was shot and killed in november of 2021. while protecting a kron for news crew in oakland, all 3 men face murder charges as well as charges of attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. >> it's 706, in the east bay. some parents of uc berkeley students are fed up. they're concerned about safety for their students. so they're taking the matter into their own hands. and it all got together. they hired private security guards to help robbers. michael thomas is in the newsroom to talk about the pair to do it. hey, good morning, everyone. that's right. these parents say that they have had enough essentially putting together a pilot program for private security to surround uc berkeley. >> and again, it's going to be called safe bears. and it's going to last for the next 2 weeks and take place during the overnight hours, making

sure that students don't fall victim to the city's crime issues. we've got a map up on your screens. you can see just exactly where that private security is set to be placed. they're going to be there between the hours of 6, 30 at night until 03:00am. and it was chosen based off of crime reports that were done in the last 6 months. you can see it's a square shaped area and it runs about 5 blocks long from bancroft way all the way down to dwight way. that also along piedmont avenue in total, there's going to be 6 security ambassadors. they're all going to be wearing bright colors and be assigned to different areas with one that will make rounds on a bike. they're being paid and organized by parents privately that say enough is enough when it comes to the area's crime in the overall goal is to put pressure on uc berkeley's administration to get something similar put in place. the safety ambassadors all have california guard cards. however, they will not be armed at all and they will not be carrying pepper spray batons, handcuffs or any other defense equipment, essentially

because their purpose is to be physical deterrence as they roam the area and also escort students from one place to another. this pilot program will end on saturday march 23rd. as of right now, parents have a goal of raising $300,000 for this initiative, but they've only raised about 40,000. so we did reach out to the organizers this morning. we're hoping to hear back from them at some point. and as we get more feedback from the uc berkeley officials will keep you updated. live in the newsroom. i'm michael thomas reyna darnell. send it back to all right, michael, thank you for that. time now is 708, and daly city police are looking for a man who tried to rob a grocery store employee. this happened. >> tuesday around 2 in the morning. the worker was going to work at lucky's on mission street. and a man approached him, pointed a gun at him, demanded his wallet. the employee actually started banging on the doors of the store to try to get him. the man ended up shooting him in the foot and then took off in a silver toyota avalon. and

the north bay, a sonoma man has been arrested for an armed robbery of a convenience store. police arrested joseph witching. they say that he went to the community store, the glenn l and communities arnold drive around 11 o'clock tuesday night demanded money. the clerk refused and then they say he that showed a gun tucked into his waistband, took off with the cash register cash from the cash register now in the south bay. you've got people living san jose. so be able to take light rail to the milpitas bart station vta board unanimously approved an extension project. construction could begin as soon as this summer. san jose mayor sam liccardo reacting on exe part. the expansion of public transportation. one of the most densely populated traffic, congested neighborhoods. it's long overdue. still on the morning news sharks are facing a lawsuit after family says a coach sexually abused their child. well, the parents say complaints they put 4 went unheard.

county say more than 270,000 gallons of wastewater spilled into the russian river. it happened last week. it came from the county sanitation treatment plant. the recent storms they're thinking may have been the cause. but environmentalists say a specialists say there is no impact on the wildlife. all right. we'll leave a lot of day to kind of just enjoy the sunshine and then you things are going to switch a little storm door. still open yeah, it will still open very, very gently tomorrow morning and mostly just for the north bay. >> today, though, no storm door. it is beautiful. crystal clear absolutely looking incredible this morning. no cloud cover whatsoever. >> nice comfortable afternoon to look forward to that as well. radar showing you dry skies all across the state. we are going to be looking at dry conditions all day long today, but only today that low pressure area to our north starts edge its way in tomorrow, displacing the high pressure ridge that's keeping us dry for now. some of the

time everything out for you. we actually have 3 rounds of rain fall ahead of us. the first tomorrow's hardly noticeable for most areas. we will see morning showers for marin, sonoma, napa, lake and mendocino counties, but really dissipating by the time they reach the rest of the bay area, possibly just a few midday sprinkles for sf. oakland, vallejo spots like that. rest of the day looks dry. just a little bit cooler that the few more clouds sunday starts dry. but by sunday afternoon, our next round of rainfall. and this one is actually going to get more of us across the bay area. wet towards the afternoon and evening sunday night into monday morning. we'll dry out during the day on monday before next round of rain monday night into tuesday. sierra snow fall, maybe an inch at most on donner summit saturday morning. nothing that's going hold anyone up. much more significant snowfall expected as we move into next week. so do anticipate another few feet of snowfall in the crest of the sierra really kicking off sunday night through tuesday

suing over a new rule that limits credit card fees and the monthly jobs report just came out. jane king is live at the nasdaq with those stories and more happy friday, hi. sorry. happy friday. so some good, some bad and the jobs report. we did see 275,000 jobs added in february. so it's more than expected. >> less than january and the government did revise slower job growth in december and january as well. the unemployment rate jumped up to 3.9% factory jobs were lost, but we did see jobs again in health care and retail leisure hospitality, as well government jobs market seemed to like it because we're looking higher so far this morning, we'll banking groups and texas business associations ask a federal court to abolish that new rule that would cap most credit card late fees at $8. the consumer financial protection bureau announced that new limit this week. well, the bank say that the new rule was rushed through and could lead to lower credit scores. the government says it will save consumers. 10 billion dollars

and how they're struggling in. the mayor mentioned teachers, nurses, firefighters, but she didn't say there's thousands of vacancies within those department. the electorate has changed. they want. leadership inside of city hall. they want someone to come in and turn our city back around. >> lori says that the mayor didn't offer any particularly new ideas or approaches and he says that he's the only person who's running from outside what he calls a failed system. he also says he's tired of the negativity. >> i'm tired of the excuses and the finger pointing instead of accountable leadership and getting meaningful results. this is not a crisis of resources with a 14.6 billion dollar budget. this is a crisis of leadership. we all know this and and so i am incredibly optimistic. the best days of our city are ahead of us. but it's going to require

>> 7.24, a bicyclist is seriously hurt, had to go to the hospital because of a crash that happened last night. the area of hamilton and latimer avenues near campbell. >> a motorcycle hit the bicyclist around 7 o'clock in the evening. the bicyclist was taken to a hospital. >> well, the san francisco fire department, they've passed a new fire code legislation for lithium-ion batteries at bikes and scooters. this is in response to an increase in reported fires due to the batteries charging capabilities. the department says they're boston people to adhere to safety recommendations outlined by the national fire protection agency. they want people to refrain from using generic charging ports that could potentially result in residential fires. well, that

policy changes. san francisco comes as a fire department mountain view. they had to deal with the fire related to that lithium ion batteries. fire officials say they responded to an apartment building and the 2200 block california street people inside reported a fire and an explosion. firefighters out and eat bike and his battery damaged by the fire. they say it appears the fire was started on may be a malfunction in the charging of the battery pack. all residents thankfully self evacuated. they were safe before fire crews arrived. it's 7.25. and you sfo doesn't sell plastic water bottles when you go to the airport anymore. whether study that says that actually that's not. >> helping the environment sfl became the first major airport in the country to ban the sale of plastic water bottles in 2019 and a study looked at this and they found that what the airport turned to instead you can buy these aluminum bottles there. that's what they sell the water. and now

mateo bridge about 15 minutes there. it was december feel just short of 14 minutes and the golden gate bridge 37 of the tolls. 26 minutes at 7.30, and a san jose junior sharks coach is being accused of assault lawsuit claims a coach would grow his players before taking advantage of that. and this lawsuit is also bringing to light a lot of troubling allegations against the management for the team. com force theresa has more. >> absolutely tragic situation. you know, young boy being taken advantage of by coach. >> mark boskovich is an attorney representing the family and child at the center of a civil lawsuit against this man. kevin whitmer and the san jose sharks when there was a coach for the junior sharks, youth hockey organization last november, santa clara prosecutors charged with murder with 30 felony counts of abuse and 20 counts of possession of child.

>> there was a another parent that raise concerns about how he was using his position as coach to really, you know, control the athletes in an unhealthy way. boskovich says on multiple occasions, parents reached out to complain to the sharks organization. >> about observing whitmer demonstrating disturbing behavior with young players. >> so there were a lot of red flags, some of which were raised to the organizations. some of them were kind of the open that you should expect that organization would have to tack to it if it were properly supervise and its coaches athletes. also boskovich says that the suit alleges the organization failed to follow. >> national youth guidelines by allowing whitner to be alone with minors in the sharks. locker room. >> the unique issue to hockey and there were coaches over the years that have done similar kinda things in locker rooms. and so that's why usa

hockey, but this in place and enforced on its clubs and this is the situation of were club just decided to ignore about a new better. >> boskovich says fundamentally the suit's goals is descend. a clear message. and this is exactly why we need these kind of rules and we need to enforce them otherwise or get other member clubs are going to have the same situation. they're handsome. >> we want to prevent that as best we can in the future. >> as for what mayor, he remains in custody, he is entered a not guilty plea in his criminal case. we reached out to the sharks organization for comment but have not received a response yet theresa kron, 4 news. >> on the peninsula, man has been arrested for threatening to go on a killing spree on the campus of youtube in san bruno. shachar littleton, the 4th was denied bail at a hearing on wednesday, the san mateo county da's office says that he threatened to shoot and kill multiple people on

the campus through social media county pleaded not guilty. 2 felony charges. his preliminary hearing is march 13th. welcome. police are investigating a shooting that have interstate 9.80, right near 11th street have an early thursday morning. police say a man felt something hit his car. he got out to see what happened. that's when another car drove alongside him and opened fire. no one was injured. and police say that investigation is ongoing. well, the owner of a popular east bay bagel shop says her business was targeted with anti-semitic graffiti. thorn has that story. >> the sidewalk usually filled with a line of customers waiting for a popular boy. chick bagel was vandalized this week with this graffiti 0, 6, owner emily winston says it's an attack against her jewish-owned business. it's pretty pretty upsetting. >> to get that is my first time getting such a thing winston says the graffiti popped up in 2 spots outside

north face tells kron 4 they will continue to operate their other bay area stores in santa clara berkeley, walnut creek and palo alto. >> we were able to hold him accountable when a public official abuses the public's trust and gains position of authority and uses it to steal taxpayer funds, personal and that rhodes trust trust in the government. >> alameda county da pamela price announcing a plea deal between prosecutors and former fremont city manager mark down ash. the former manager pleaded guilty to fraud for misusing his city-issued credit card for personal expenses. tonight was fired in 2021. he will serve 3 months behind bars and pay the city back more than $300,000. well, republicans in the state legislature are now demanding governor gavin newsom provide more information about an exemption. >> in the state's new minimum wage law, this comes in a room a report suggesting that newsom included a loophole in
