is encouraging girls to play with a free program. >> station. he's calling for news 2. >> thanks so much for joining us here on kron. 4 news at 2. i'm stephanie lin. one day after a united airlines flight lost a tire during takeoff from sfo. investigators are working to figure out what happened. kron four's charles clifford joins us live now from the airport. charles, what's the latest on this? >> well, the faa has said that they are going to launch an investigation. we're also expecting the ntsb to launch an investigation into this. what is essentially a crazy story? a plane was taking off from sfo had kind of right towards me. the tire fell off into a parking lot. now this afternoon, we actually talked to a woman whose car was hit by that tire. she says it's something she never expected. a dramatic scene caught on video as a tire falls off the

landing gear of a boeing triple 7 just after takeoff from sfo thursday morning. >> the tire landed in an airport employee parking lot, crushing one car and damaging at least one other vehicle. thankfully no one was injured. the plane which was bound for osaka, japan landed at lax thursday afternoon without incident. at this point. it's unclear why the wheel came off in response. the faa said in a statement that they will be conducting an investigation. >> thank goodness this didn't happen. >> over a park. henry harteveldt is a travel industry analyst with the atmosphere research group. he says an investigation is inevitable. the ntsb is going to get the tire and look for any other piece parts of the landing gear assembly so that it can determine what was the cause of this accident? was it something as simple as forgetting perhaps tightened some nuts and bolts or is there something more to it? is there perhaps metal that he failure or whatever else could because at sfo on friday, most

of the travelers we talked to had heard about what happened, but we're discouraged when it comes to getting on an airplane to find some comfortable flying all means. and, you know, things don't too often >> all >> right. now, a united airlines has said that they plan to make all the passengers were on the plane and the owners of the damaged vehicles make sure that there are properly taken care of. we did, as i mentioned, get to talk to one of the women whose car was damaged. here's what she had to say this afternoon. >> i rush over there thinking that my cart over going to and then i saw my basically ripped into shreds. and then i started crying because didn't expect that at all. and that's when the cops came in explain what had happened. >> yes, he was very shook up this afternoon. hopefully she can work with united to figure something out. but that's the very latest here at sfo. charles clifford kron, 4 news. charles, thank you so much for

your live report. >> well, yesterday's flight scare just as to a growing list of issues with boeing. federal authorities are investigating several recent issues with boeing airplanes ranging from loose tire as the plane engines catching on fire. that incident happening just this week, an engine on a united airlines flight caught fire right after take off from houston monday night. the monday, the man who took this video says it sounded like a bomb went off and that the plan to the nose dive right after the crew was able to make an emergency landing. no one was hurt. and last month, federal investigators say the rudder controls on another united flight failed during a landing in new jersey. the pilots say the rudder pedals which controlled the rotation of the plane got stuck as they roll down the runway. the pilot says they had to use another steering mechanism and were able to safely land the plane. investigators say that although mechanics could not pinpoint the problem, the plane work normally after they swapped out some of the rudder control parts. a few weeks before that a delta flight

last the nose wheel while preparing for takeoff in atlanta. no one was hurt. the san francisco fire department responding to a water main break from this morning on walnut street just off 19th avenue, water shooting sky high in the vicinity of pine lake park near stern grove. it up could be spotted for several blocks. kron four's terisa stasio is live out there now for us. theres entire mess out here in this neighborhood. we've got some video that we want to share with you. and that was show you the water main break. and that led to the hill collapse out here. now, you can take a look at this video from the citizen app that shows water shooting high into the air. just a mess. san francisco crews were able to turn off the water, but then this happened the hillside above stern grove in the san francisco neighborhood gave way the entire situation being investigated. now. but here's what we do know. the san

francisco water power, sewer department sfp you safe. just wrapped up the wall. wanna area storm water improvement project. the cause was 29 million dollars to project included upgrading sewer pipes along 25 blocks and adding a major storm water tunnel. the pipe that ruptured out here i've been told was not replaced in that project. this pipe that ruptured dates back to the 1940's. the landslide is next to several homes, including one that was currently putting in a large retaining wall to shore up its foundation. i spoke with several residents who say that they are very concerned about the residents who live in the area, certainly right next to where it slammed down the hill. now we received this just a couple minutes ago from the san francisco public utilities commission with the wind power, water sewer. it says that the crews repaired a large water main break on

wanna street near 30th avenue today. the cause of the break appears to be a failure of an 8 inch valve connected to a 60 inch water transmission line. big mass. that's the latest here off of war wanna avenue theresa back to you very helpful description of the situation that crews are facing out there for u.s.. teresa, thank you so much.

>> well, this is not the first time something like this has happened in the area. at the end of the stern grove festival in 2021, a water main break flooded the area shutting down the grove more than 70,000 gallons of water spilled out causing tester, catastrophic damage. the final concert of the summer, in which to sure the performer was to had to be canceled. the sigmund stern grove's concert meadow was set to reopen for the festival in 2022. alright, checking our forecast now as we take a live look outside at downtown san francisco could see the sun beaming down on the city. checking in now with a couple meteorologist kyla grogan. hey, at top 10 day out there. you can see that right behind me here at the golden gate bridge. just blue skies everywhere, beautiful and the temperatures reflecting. >> that sunshine and the warmth that is out there, san jose right now at 69 degrees, flirting with that 70 degree mark livermore at 65. we've got 66 in concord in santa rosa and even san francisco. oakland is 61 degrees. not bad. half moon bay about 59 is

we look across the state there in the 70's down los angeles. 71 degrees there right now. 66 in fresno and sacramento coming in at about 64 degrees. so this shows us those nice blue skies that are all across, not just the bay area, but as you can see, california, obviously, when you look offshore, you start to see a little bit of a line of moisture there. that's bringing some rain up to the pacific northwest right now. we're being protected by high pressure. you can kind of see that that ridge that's built in there. it's not the strongest ridge, but it certainly keeping those clouds away from us. but it won't last forever. by the time we get to tomorrow morning, we are going to see a pattern change in our weather, but we're not there yet. and it's really nice out. a live look at half moon bay to showing people out there enjoying it looks like they're doing a little beach cleanup there to at this hour. i haven't seen that there before until but temperatures are going to change big time as we get into tomorrow. we have those fronts start tracking through and they are some successive fronts. they're going a little bit of rain through parts of saturday, sunday, monday and tuesday. i'll be back and we'll talk about that in your extended forecast. will track that rain for you. back to you. thank you. kron 4 is your

supervisor. also chef i and nonprofit executive daniel lurie. >> we first need to create more housing downtown. we've already passed a few local laws to remove the reduced fees and barriers to office. conversions. our first office conversion is actually happening right now. 34 new homes at the warfield building that would not be happening if we hadn't stepped in. and so the glaring miss for me. >> was there wasn't a conversations about how we're going to make san francisco more livable and affordable for all san francisco families. it wasn't a conversation about working families. frontline workers and how they're struggling. >> lori says he didn't hear any new ideas or approaches from the mayor during her presentation. allure is the only person running from what he calls running from outside what he calls a failed system and while the mayor says that she may be tired of the negativity, lurie says that he's pretty tired, too.

>> i'm tired of the excuses and the finger pointing instead of accountable leadership and getting meaningful results. this is not a crisis of resources with a 14.6 billion dollar budget. this is a crisis of leadership. we all know this and and so i am incredibly optimistic. the best days of our city are ahead of us. but it's going to require leadership from outside of that building. >> mayor breed said in her that she's thankful for the city's voters for approving proposition e which she says will give police more freedom and tools to catch criminals. they are also outlined her plans to revitalize downtown san francisco say she wants to attract new businesses and build more housing. >> coming up, more closures strike at the bay area. the business that is shutting down for good. and a program helping give incarcerated people a jump start in the career field. how it works.

of 7 moisturizers and 3 vitamins. for all your skins, gold bond. >> parents of some uc berkeley students are hiring private security guards in an effort they say to keep their kids safe. kron four's. michael thomas brings us the details. >> this pilot program was put together by parents and will essentially take place over the next 2 weeks. it's called safe. there's it's going to happen during the overnight hours. essentially, parents say they want to make sure that students don't fall victim of any of the city's crime issues. take a look. this is a map up on your screens. you can see just exactly where it's going to

take place again. it will happen between the hours of 06:30pm, and 03:00am those hours in this area were chosen based off of crime reports that were done in the last 6 months. you can see it's a square shaped area and it's about 5 blocks long from bancroft way all the way down to do wit way then also along piedmont avenue and total, there's going to be 6 security ambassadors wear bright colors and be assigned to different areas with one. it will make rounds on a bike. they're going to be paid and organized by parents and say enough is enough when it comes to the area's crime. the overall goal is to put pressure on administration at the university to get a similar program put in place. the safety ambassadors all have california guard cards and if undergone background checks but will not carry any type of weapons. so no pepper spray, batons, handcuffs or anything else when it comes to defense equipment. the purpose is for them to serve as a physical deter. and as they roam the area, an escort students by request from one place to another. the pilot program will and on saturday march 23rd. as of right now, parents

have a goal of raising $300,000 for the safe care fund, but it only raised currently around 40,000. we did reach out to organizers for their thoughts. and as we get more information from the university and the organization on how this pilot program has gone, we'll keep you updated. that's very latest reporting from the newsroom. i'm michael thomas. let's send it back to you live in the studio. >> the owner of a popular east bay bagel shop says her business was targeted with anti-semitic graffiti. the words israel baby killer were found spray painted on the sidewalk outside of boychuk bagels in berkeley this week. the owner emily winston, says she nor her business has openly taken a stance on the war in gaza. but they have gotten threats on social media. winston says this graffiti is an attack against her jewish on business. >> you know, i'm out here building a great thing that people love and it's really easy for some of the coming off the sidelines and deface it. doesn't take too much effort to throw down a little spray. paint takes a lot more effort to scrub it off.

>> boychuk bagels is not the first jewish on bay area business to be targeted since the israel-hamas war began last october. smitten ice cream in san francisco's mission district was forced to temporarily close in november after vandals smashed in the windows and spray painted free palestine. in his state of the union address, president joe biden announced a plan to build a temporary pier on the gaza coast. it will allow the u.s. and other countries to deliver ship loads of critical supplies and humanitarian aid to the palestinians caught in the israel-hamas war. our washington correspondent jessi tenure reports. >> the president has ordered u.s. army and navy forces to u.s. army and navy forces to set up a temporary por coast of gaza. it will allow ships to offload food, water, medicine, and other essentials to the more than 2 million palestinians there prevents us from putting boots on the ground in gaza. at the same time, ensuring that we can deliver and distribute aid securely. pentagon press secretary major general pat

ryder says the emergency mission will require about 1000 troops mainly from a virginia base. he says other countries will be responsible for securing and distributing the aid 60 days from now, this will up and operating white house communications director ben labolt says land emissions and air drops will continue but says this new pier will be more effective. ships can carry so much more humanitarian assistance than trucks. the pentagon expects the mission to eventually provide 2 million meals a day to gaza. no one. should be able to accept. the suffering that we've seen. congress has been largely supportive of the announcement, but even biden administration officials worry about protecting the aid once within gaza. the assistance has to be distributed. >> more effectively, secretary of state antony blinken points to chaotic distribution efforts where palestinians have rush aid trucks. >> but blinken says the best solution is a cease-fire. the issue is whether hamas decide or not. to have a cease-fire

that would benefit everyone. the u.s. was hoping for a deal before ramadan this weekend, but negotiations are still stalled. in washington. i'm jessi tenure. >> all right. let's check in on our weather forecast now taking a live look outside at san francisco. the transamerica building out there. you can see the sunshine is coming out. let's check in now with cuyler for more. there it is. gorgeous out there. and i do mean gorgeous sunshine wall to wall right now, which is just fantastic. take a look at this from san jose to san francisco to half moon bay to the golden gate bridge to the east bay hills. we've got sunshine for everybody today. it's nice to be a weather person. when you get this kind of the day they're stormtracker for it just looks fantastic. however, we do have to talk about a little rain headed our way for the weekend. and as zoom out here show you the water vapor map because you can kind of see where these little board is. these are of low pressure that counter clockwise circulation kind of lined up back here and there's a bigger system that they're come spinning off of know right now we're being protected by high pressure. but that's going to

change as we get into saturday morning. that's our first hit of just a little rain. looks like north bay and then it kind of rolled into sunday monday, tuesday, a little more rain now. notice if you're in eureka, that's where the bull's eye is. right and parts of the pacific northwest. but we're still going to get some rain from this. so let's talk through when you need to look out for it. so they mentioned saturday morning that the north bay thing light rain falls apart as it hits the golden gate bridge and then widespread showers in the afternoon on sunday into monday and again, monday into tuesday. it doesn't look like anything terribly dramatic. but let's talk timing here in future cast can show you this. there's that first little hit that's going to fall apart. kind of hit the north bay. bring about a 10th to maybe a quarter of an inch of rain is i think that might be in a bullish estimate there. i think it's going to closer to 10th second hit. this will go across the whole bay area. that will be sunday afternoon into monday morning. and then the 3rd one, which i think might be a little more pervasive. that's going to be later in the day on monday. and that one's going to go through till tuesday. but then after that, we have kind of a nice pattern change coming and we roll into some really nice.

business closures in san francisco to tell you about 2 of them impacting union square. >> supervisor mayoral justify telling kron 4 that north face is closing its store on post street. the outdoor retailer was founded in san francisco in 1964, that location is the company's only store in the city and that closes on march 31st. north face tells kron 4 they continue to run. there are other bay area stores in santa clara berkeley, walnut creek and palo alto. and just a few blocks down global retailer, zara is shutting down the business lease their expires in january 2025. the spokesperson says they will not be renewing that least. the store is also located on post street. in the castro neighborhood after more than 2 decades of business seafood restaurant catch is shutting down final dinner service is tomorrow. the restaurant hosted a guest in a historic building on market street, which was deemed a landmark back in 2004. jose man is

accused of burglarizing places of worship in the south bay. police say jamie goat here is get your as brother was arrested inside of a church last weekend. he faces charges in connection to 7 burglaries. he is accused of stealing $53,000 worth of collection money. the suspect is also charged with assaulting a police officer during an arrest. but here is allegedly drove a stolen car towards police before getting away. he is being held on 1 million dollars bail. >> coming up, last blizzard like conditions did not freeze out. love me. the couple that said i do in the snow. and this women's history month, a bay area sports nonprofit is encouraging girls to play flag football through a free clinic. stay tuned to learn how to sign up. plus, a new program at san quentin state prison is helping incarcerated people develop new career and n

graduation ceremony at san quentin rehabilitation center this week. >>p50 graduates got their diplomas in a wide range of skills from construction to coating kron four's ella sogomonian reports. >> well, i've been in prison for almost 36 never been on computer and tell us started the class. so i had to learn how to use a computer and then learn how to code into the computer. so it was really challenging. erich bergen is that the center since and they're getting his certificate of completion for web development fundamentals. >> he learned how to code

while incarcerated without using internet. it was possible through a program called code 73, 70 in partnership with nonprofit the last mile and the california prison industry authority bergen says it's boosting camaraderie inside prison walls. well, bringing families together for celebration. >> beyond words, it's been a while since i've my brothers together like this to have them here supporting it's just amazing. >> about 15 people graduated on thursday, many of them from the coding class credit. they're dedicated instructors. jon over who's been teaching here for a decade. >> it's important to me because i think what we're trying to has has a larger purpose and then teaching about station. i think what we're trying to do here not just educate course educating yourself on the profession, but find ourselves as well. he was just a student from his first class, took the stage a

stinson here reporting from palisades tahoe. i am snowboarding on this friday and i thought i'd give you a little ski report that literally no one asked for. buit is. it's a bluebird, a gorgeous conditions. blue skies. the snow is amazing. after all that snow, we got up here in tahoe. perfect day to hit the slopes and most people are working right now. i the day off, so the crowds aren't as bad. but just a little tip for you. if you plan coming up to thousands tahoe. >> saturday or sunday, don't do it unless you have a parking reservation. that absolutely required. unless you do the parking other than that. enjoy your weekend, everybody. i'm going to go. it's the slopes. >> yeah. go sarah. go. i love i got a note from the folks at sugar bowl saying they're going extend their ski season 3 weeks now to the end of i believe, was the end of april. so things are going well for this year. and you can see folks that they're enjoying it here. diamond peak, just so beautiful day to be out,

enjoying some of the sunshine. we do have more snow on the way. however, you can see a winter storm watch that is now gone up. now, this isn't really for today or tomorrow, but it is for sunday morning through tuesday morning. that's when we're expecting them to get a little more meaningful snow as we take a live look here at incline village, you can see still some snow piled up from the last big storm that came through. but a pretty nice day today as we get into tomorrow, there's the chance of a flurry. i don't think it's going to be much, but it really isn't until sunday that we start to see this next system taking shape. and as far as totals looking out you know, again, saturday, just a few flurries. but as we get into sunday through tuesday, 10 to 18 inches up in the passes, 2 feet at the peaks up to 2 feet at the peak. so that definitely needs are some travel impacts. if you're going up today or tomorrow, you're going to a problem sunday through tuesday. that's going to be the tough time to keep an eye travel. so just to look through future cast here. want to show you those flurries tomorrow afternoon. i don't think that will be much of anything. and then as we work our way into sunday, here comes the next system. and this is sunday evening that you're seeing, i think in the

overnight from sunday into monday. that's we're going to see some of the heavier snow come down for the sierra. that's a good thing. we want to keep adding to that snow pack as we work our way towards the end of our water year and make our way through march. but boy, it is sure beautiful in san francisco right now across the bay area. some lovely temperatures out there. tomorrow is a big cool down as we've got that rain rolling in. i'll have details on that. when come back in a bit. we'll track that for you. get you ready for the weekend. back more to it. and lgbtq youth club in oakland is hit by thieves. the group damage the front door at the town youth club location of the oakland lgbtq community center. >> center officials tell us that this happened early yesterday morning. the center tells us they will work to replace the damaged or oakland. police are investigating a shooting on interstate 9.18 year. 11th street. it happened thursday morning. police say a man felt something hit his car. you got to see what happened. and that's when another car drove alongside him and opened fire. no one was hurt. police say the investigation is ongoing.

and turning now to a big story, 2 people are dead after a fatal shooting in pleasanton ended with the suspect turning the gun on themselves. kron four's amanda hari brings us the details. everyone i spoke to says this neighborhood is extremely quiet and the experience almost no crime. >> they say the situation is very sad, but they're grateful the threat is over a little bit strange and shocking. that's how people live in this neighborhood described what happened thursday. saginaw circle near santa rita road and west lost see does boulevard covered crime scene tape amid a murder suicide investigation this morning around 11 o'clock >> i some loud bangs, apparently there was a gunshot at that time. i didn't recognize it as a question. this woman who didn't want to appear on camera. >> says she was home in pleasanton. police responded and found the victim dead with

multiple gunshot wounds. that was a swath when they came in. she says she's lived in this complex since 1997, but she has never seen a police presence like this one. the shooting was then almost immediately followed by a police chase. there are requesting assistance. their officers were actively in pursuit of a known a murder suspect on 5.80. that pursuit ended in san leandro. >> near the benedict drive exit, the driver died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. the suspect vehicle while him pursue. >> crash. and at that point, there was a high risk staff as well as the standoff. approximately 30 minutes. it was determined that the suspect had to come to his own injuries. i saw on the news earlier. >> the 5.80, was shut down. and i said, that's crazy. that's a major freeway shut down for hours. then i came home to see police tape around her neighborhood and found out that it was related. tim parks as he chose to live here in

pleasanton because it's a safe community. he never expected anything like this. >> he says he's not sure who the suspect or the victim. it's i don't know who live there. >> maybe i saw them, but i don't know if if i know who does or not, it just a disturbed guy. didn't know how to control his emotions. i guess it's only thing goes through my mind. >> and that was amanda hari reporting for us. well, our late winter storms are expected to lead to a milder than normal wildfire season. scientists say things could change by july, but for now, the national interagency fire center predicts below normal fire activity from may to june. researchers say the education that would normally burn and dry conditions. a lower elevations is still looking green and it's buried in snow at higher elevations. statewide are snow packed recently measured 104% of normal for march. and just last week, the sierra nevada was faced with heavy blizzard conditions, snow and strong

wind gusts close down highways and ski resorts. so what do you do when your wedding is scheduled during one of the biggest storms of the joining us live now with the couple that showed their love could not be iced out. chloe bowman and chris nielsen tied the knot despite mother nature showing their love is stronger than the weather. the couple joins us live now today. so glad to have you both with us. >> thank you so much. having to be having us. of first of all, congratulations to you. how does it feel to be married despite the odds? >> i still feel like out of i i mean it like it's surreal. just thinking about how this weekend when with. >> you know, feet of snow and, you know, just i'm still just sitting in what this week and was like. >> right. so what were your first thoughts when you heard that your wedding just might get snowed out.

>> oh, gosh, when when we when we started, we look at the report like a week from this past saturday and it said like one 3 inches an ago. you know, that will be nothing. and then next, you know, more more. the reports are saying being a day just you couldn't believe what was coming in. you know, we're just focused keeping the vendors going. you know, getting as many guests as possible. >> yeah, i think our top priority safety for all of our guests to i think you are in that moment like being we've got to get married. one oh, it was a roller coaster. it certainly looks like many people showed up. so how many people did you actually invite and how many actually showed up? >> oh, gosh, we we invited. we have about 170 that were invited and we probably landed in the in the 70's. and it was i short of a miracle. i mean, you just with the you know,

the trains coming offline and the storms trying to get as many folks from our families that are making friends loved ones the bridal so we ended being in the in the 70's and which, course, you know, we're saddened but we're just we're so great for those that were able make it tried to be for, you know, our incredible day. >> yeah. and that split screen moment. i'm not sure if you guys can see playing some photos from your wedding. just beautiful pictures, by the way, it really shows that the both of you really embracing those snowy conditions out there. but did you have to make any sort last-minute rearrangements because of the weather? >> oh, yes, are we lost makeup artist the they hit my hair and is unable to make it up to the mountain. but we hats off to credible that we're able to went out. pause are amazing planner figure it out every my

makeup artist and the girl who actually went there to do another wedding but couldn't make it to other wedding. stepped in hair and we had to get her plowed straight to my here being the heat from the venue. harper to paul gruber, unfortunately, but fortunately everyone was had a little bit of a vaccinated, but venue of owner went pick them up. kings beat him. she cemented to truckee. so yes, a lot of curveballs where the round, but it was incredible. what the circumstances that we had, the i think what's he got to the end of the ceremony about like, all right. let's just enjoy the magic that was given to and so by the way, looks of those photos. you look absolutely gorgeous. so all those folks stepping in to help and support really just did such a fantastic job. >> speaking of magic, right, the farmer's almanac. it doesn't. but there are some superstitions. >> around 7 snow on your wedding day that seeing that falling snow on your wedding day is a sign of prosperity. would you agree with that?

growing in popularity across the united states and women's flag. football is now a scholarship eligible sport. >> a solano county based nonprofit is encouraging girls to play but offering a free clinic this weekend. kron four's philippe djegal reports. >> made up 17% of the players and the coach sarna nfl flag football league. when ryan sarna launched the vallejo nonprofit back in 2021. today girls represent 31% of the coed players. future for girls and flag football is as bright sarna intentionally keeps costs low for families and offers grants for those who cannot afford to pay. never turned a child away. and as of 2020, the national association of intercollegiate athletics declared women's flag football, a sanctioned sport within the division.

be mostly beneficial rain, meaning rain that will be able to be absorbed into the ground. but you can see today, obviously really nice tomorrow. it's going to be early morning in the north bay and then we'll all get a little rain on sunday into monday. and i think tuesday will be the one where probably get more than the rest of its. let me show you futurecast how this goes through just that little grazing of this system on saturday morning. i think we'll be about a 10th of an inch in the north bay. that's about it. sprinkles for everyone else. this is sunday, late afternoon into the evening kind of rolls in overnight. that's when the snow is going to get started in the sierra and then this 3rd impulse coming monday later in the day into tuesday. and that one to me seems like it's going to be the most juice to part. and then after that, we're going to clear out and get some really nice warm temperatures. so let's talk rain totals. this is tomorrow morning. so as i mentioned, no big deal. they will pick up a little bit more as we head into our sunday monday and then we take it monday into tuesday altogether. this is what we're looking at as we go across the whole weekend. so obviously, right now we're looking really good. but just be aware that tomorrow morning we'll have a little bit of rain to contend with. having
