missing. good evening. thanks for joining us for kron. 4 news at 5. i'm ken wayne and i'm noelle bellow. a united spokesperson says this was not an emergency landing at medford airport this afternoon. >> but it is concerning that an external panel was nowhere to be found on forest and thorn live for us at sfo with more. dan. >> yeah, this as you mentioned, another issue for united airlines in a recent string of issues that they've been dealing with lately. and the common denominator being san francisco international airport. we heard today from a medford airport spokesperson that the plane left sfo and then landed at their airport around one 45 this afternoon. as you mentioned, united said that this was not an emergency landing, but during the inspection of the plane, something that they usually do when a plane lands at the airport, something concerning was discovered. an external panel was missing. the medford airport spokesperson says the airport was forced to pause operations on the runway to

make sure that there wasn't any damage on. they did not find any, but they also did not find where this panel we reached out to united who confirmed the damage, the boeing 7.37. they say that there was no indication of the damage during the flight which had more than 130 passengers on board. no injuries to report either. they also say they're going to be doing an investigation to find out what happened. and they tell us that they're going to be examining the plane and making repairs before putting this plane back in service. we also learned from the faa that they're also going to be looking into this case as well as we've been reporting over the last week and a half united has been facing issues again, the common denominator being sfo just yesterday, a plane landed here at sfo with a hydraulic leak that caused some smoke to come from the landing gear. earlier this week, a plane that was heading to sfo from australia had to turn around because they were dealing with mechanical issues. and of course, that video that went all around the

globe of that plane that was leaving sfo heading to japan and the tire or wheel and a falling off and causing some damage in that plane had to divert to las angeles. so there's been a number of issues with these planes. recently. we caught up with some passengers have out here at the airport that say they're going to be taking united flight tonight. they say that they aren't really thinking about the safety issues, but it is concerning that keeps popping up again united and all of these cases says that they maintain that safety is their top priority. we're going to be staying on top of it. and as we learn more information about what's going on here, we'll bring it to in a while. back to you. all right. thank you for that to dan. we will, of course, be getting more information as the night goes on. meantime, a seat belt saved the life of a passenger. >> on that alaska airlines boeing 7.37. max involved to with shad that frightening midair door panel blowout. that's according to a new law. so a lawsuit filed on behalf of 7 passengers, including kong tran who took this video.

he says his body was lifted out of the seat. suction literally tore off his shoes and socks and his leg was injured in the incident happened january over portland. the plane did land safely, but several people were hurt. the department of justice has opened a criminal investigation into that case. >> all signatures collected in an attempt to recall alameda county district attorney pamela price will now have to be counted by hand. the county registrar voters making that decision after of you of a random sample of signatures that were turned in last week. kron four's dan kerman joining us live now with more on what this means. stand. >> well, basically, this means we will not know if we're going to have a recall election are not probably not until next month. in the meantime, those who want to keep price in office are questioning whether the registrar even is allowed to have extra time to count. it may not be until next month before we know if opponents of alameda county district attorney pamela price have enough signatures to force a

recall election more than 123,000 signatures were turned in and the alameda county registrar of voters says after using the random sampling method authorized by state law. the results are not sufficient to determine whether the signature threshold has been met. that threshold is 73,195 signatures. as a result, the registrar will now begin a manual count of the verified signatures. the folks that are driving this fails their first big test. william fitzgerald, this with the campaign to keep price in office. they spent millions of dollars trying to get those signatures and yesterday make their tools that. >> but now there's an open question whether that signatures it has a little legitimacy to the signatures. but brenda grisham with the campaign to recall price doesn't see the hand count as a negative. even better. so there's. >> no question that we have

what we need, that the people signed. the petition is the petitions legal, the signatures legal. so that's a plus for us. but supporters of price are also raising questions about the registrar of voters decision to take additional time. >> to do a hand count. and if you look on the chart of the current rules, >> there's no section in it that says that if it doesn't, if you can count after 10, 10 days get that extra 30 days that that doesn't exist in our meeting. fitzgerald says the campaign to keep price in office is now talking to lawyers to see if this extra time his legal. but they say that doesn't mean they won't accept the results. we're going to abide by the decision of the county. we're going to trust them. >> what we're trying to impress upon folks because the question has been asked, is that there are legal questions over what's happening right now. >> now we reached the reached out to the alameda county registrar of voters for some clarification on this extra time. and if it is allowed,

they did not return our call live in the newsroom. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> dozens of protesters who blocked the bay bridge in november to call for a ceasefire in gaza are now being penalized for their actions. a san francisco judge has ordered 78 of the 80 demonstrators to perform 5 hours of community service representation for the protesters say they also have agreed to pay more than $4,000 in restitution to avoid criminal charges, which breaks down to about $57 for each person being punished. the money will be given to people who needed to be evacuated from the bridge during that protest. >> speed safety cameras have been approved and apparently will become a reality. and 3 bay area cities ab 6.45 was signed by governor gavin newsom. this fall. it calls for 6 california cities to putting cameras in locations

with oakland and san jose. up here in northern california and in southern california, there are 3 cities. unsafe speed is one of the most common factors in crashes that result in injuries or death in the event of a crash between a car, a pedestrian or cyclist, the vehicle speed will largely determine the survivability of the crash. a person hit by a car traveling 40 miles per hour is 8 times. >> we're likely to be killed. then a person hit by a car traveling 20 miles per hour, take its planes. extensive research went into selecting the 33 camera locations. the sfmta board will weigh in on the recommended cameras next tuesday at their scheduled meeting. >> just this week about. how in the first time since new york city has been tracking traffic related fatalities, which was 1914, they started tracking. this is the first last year was the first year

hacienda del toro, a restaurant slash nightclub on stony point n todd rhodes after being kicout the night before cervantes showed up to the business in the overnight hours of march. 4th with a rifle and hand and allegedly threatened to shoot and shoot the people who had fired him. when deputies arrived savant s randolph cervantes didn't make it far pulling into a parking lot at todd in standish roads. >> that is where he opened fire on deputies. after shooting several times. sir vontaze got back into his car, drove back to the restaurant before continuing chase it ultimately led to him crashing his car at the time of the crash. cervantes had several gunshot wounds and injuries from the crash. he died at the scene during the crossfire. 4 deputies were injured. 3 out of 4 injured are recovering at home. now that 4th deputy.

>> suffered a head injury and is still in the hospital tonight. we now know that deputy suffered their injuries after another accidentally hit them with their patrol car. meanwhile, officials say cervantes died due to blunt force trauma likely due to the crash. but his official cause of death is still pending. let's take a live look at big bear. you're looking at either jackie or shadow. we're having legalize on these eagles here in the big bear valley in the san bernardino there. it's there sitting on top of yeah, we counted eggs and there's concern that those eggs are to going to hatch because surpassed the time they normally would hatch. >> but shadow and jackie been taking turns are still taking very tender care of those aches for u.s.. authorities are watching this. see experts say miracles can happen, that it's possible they might hatch. but right now, as they call it unlikely to do so. so

welcome. california's brand new fast food council met for the first time today. it comes just about 2 weeks before most fast food workers across the state will see increase in minimum wage. 8 on wallace reports with a recap of the meeting. >> well, keep in mind, this council includes stakeholders from across the industry, everybody from employees themselves to labor union representatives to franchisees, all of whom say they want to work together to improve the industry. >> duties upon which i am about to enter congratulation with that oath of office. california's new fast food council became official over time. its members will develop standards, rules and regulations and will gradually increase the minimum wage for california's fast-food industry. both those motions have approved in total. the council is made up of 11 members all appointed by the governor. among them for who are either fast food employees or those representing labor unions for franchisees are business owners to non-voting members and one chairperson at
