as a result dry air here, we'll have a nice warm-up going on this morning. temperature check for you. a little chilly. 41 up there to santa rosa. 48 qua non for san jose. 54 half moon bay para fives for san francisco in 49 for antioch. the contrast. little chilly up north, though, because you don't have the support of the winds as temperatures fell some 20 degrees behind the numbers we had from yesterday trailing about 11 degrees there for half moon bay and 8 for concord. the breakdown today get you up to 69 by 2 o'clock. again, some lower 70's expected well inland and we'll keep this gravy train going well into early next week before. yes, another term. we'll have more details in the forecast, stephanie. all right. looking forward to it. thank you, dave. >> happening right now, caltrans officials shut down a nine-mile stretch of 6.80, southbound through early next week. it's for paving project that was meant to start in january but got delayed due to rain. 6.80, is closed between the 5, 86, 80 connector, unpleasant and all the way through highway 84 in sunol. the closure goes through 4 o'clock monday morning.

caltrans says this weekend's closure will help lower the number of closures needed to finish the project. also happening this weekend in the east bay, a stretch of the bart route between the richmond and el sobrino del norte, a station is closed today and tomorrow from major track work, all red lines services canceled to the area. buses will be available for commuters between the 2 stations. and more trouble for united airlines on a flight leaving sfo. but this time the problem wasn't discovered until the plane landed in oregon. kron four's dan thorn brings us the details. >> another issue for united airlines flight leaving sfo after landing at rogue valley international medford airport friday afternoon. a united aircraft was found without an external panel. medford airport spokesperson says they were forced to briefly pause operations on the runway to look for any debris. none was found. this is a very minor

incident in the grand scheme of things. retired commercial airline pilot doug rice says. >> the external panel is an aluminum fairing which helps smooth the air against the plane. >> making for a smoother ride. this specific boeing 7.37. is a 25 year-old aircraft. and rice says at that age metal fatigue can set these aircraft, go through a significant amount of maintenance they should be catching these things. what we're learning now is >> that we have to be more aware of these things as they go through maintenance and double checking and triple checking the this latest issue for united is making some passengers feel uneasy. >> on thursday, a flight approaching sfl had a hydraulic leak with some smoke seen by the landing gear. last week. a japan-bound plane lost a wheel during takeoff and had to make an emergency landing in los angeles. and on monday, a united flight bound for sfo

from australia was forced to turn around because of a maintenance issue. >> think it's a little scary. the fact that this keeps coming up all the sudden and i i don't know if it's because we haven't been aware and now we are. always said, and it's it's an immediate issue that we're dealing with. >> it's scary for people. united spokesperson says there wasn't an emergency landing in oregon because there was no indication of damage during the flight. they're now going to do an investigation to find out what happened at sfo. dan thorn kron. 4 >> and an update to the alaska airlines flight where a door blew off mid-flight. it's now been revealed a seat belt saved the life of a passenger during that frightening ordeal. according to a new lawsuit filed on behalf of 7 dppassengers, one of them said his body lifted out of the seat and suction tour off his shoes and socks and bruised his lakes. the incident happened in january over portland. the plane did land safely. the department of

justice has opened a criminal investigation. in the east bay. investigators recovered a body in the oakland estuary friday afternoon. alameda firefighter sharing this image with us as crews got ready to get into the water after reports of a man having trouble swimming, the crew deployed search and rescue teams and search for the man for about an hour before finding the victim under water. that person was pronounced dead at the scene. officials are working to identify the victim. a judge has appointed a special master to oversee the women's prison in dublin. this part of a lawsuit filed by 8 inmates claiming abuse from some of the prison workers. this comes after a the fda. fbi raided the prison earlier this week as we first reported agency's computers and documents. then and since 2021, 7 prison workers have either pleaded guilty or been convicted of abuse. and another case is still pending. a member of the

google voice has been sentenced to life in federal prison for the murder and attempted murder of to oakland security guards in 2020, robert justice junior was convicted of murder and attempted murder just last year. investigators say justice was the driver of the car involved in the killing, a protective services officer. dave underwood and steven carrillo fired the deadly gunshots. justice was also convicted of attempted murder of a second federal officer and a drive-by shooting. officials say both justice and follow the so-called boogaloo movement loosely organized anti-government group that believed a second u.s. civil war was imminent. new details about a shooting that injured 4 sonoma county sheriff's deputies. officials releasing the 9-1-1 audio and body cam footage. we do want to warn you some might find this next video. disturbing. >> yes, i would become for many are trading us. you've like a ripe for from them. what's the address?

>> authorities say jose luis or vontez showed up at a nightclub on stony point told todd rhodes after being kicked out the night before police say servant is appeared at the business with a rifle and threatened to shoot people when deputies got there. cervantes drove off. he pulled into a parking lot on taught in standish roads and that is where he opened fire on deputies after firing several times. he's got back in his car. he then drove off after firing at the deputies. he headed back to the restaurant before leading police on a chase that ended in a crash. the suspect died at the scene and during the shootout for deputies were injured. 3 the 4 are recovering. a 4th deputy suffered a head injury and remains in the hospital. we now know that deputy suffered their injuries after another

>> a bay area environmentalist group says it plans to file a lawsuit against the san francisco public utilities commission over sewage that goes into the bay during heavy rainstorms. according to the organization's san francisco baykeeper 72 million gallons of sewage is discharged into the bay every year. they say that sewage contains bacteria, viruses, chemicals in trash. they claim the city is violating the clean water act, saying the city of san francisco has a combined system that treats both sewage and storm water at the same time, which is different from other california coastal cities. the sfp you see says the discharge is authorized by the environmental protection agency and that the current system is designed to help prevent trash from escaping into the bay. and advisory has been lifted for oakland's lake merritt after some of the water in the lake turned red. that color created fears of an algae bloom. eli kersh, a water expert from lake tech, explains how that rather they tell us that the water is now

safe and he explains what causes an algae >> use the term algae kind of kind of general term, this specific species and i know flatulent. that is present. it's a small microscopic organism. there are tens of thousands of species, some of them can be harmful and some not there are typically always present in some combination of but from time to time, different conditions, whether that's climate or weather water quality can lead to them to grow rapidly, get out of control. and that's when we call that a bloom. blooms typically classified by wanted here in abundance in the water. and the reason that's a problem is when they grow to that extent, they will eventually start to die off. and when that happens that we have rapid depletion of oxygen in the water and that often lead to fish kills. >> kerr says the recent cold weather and rain we've had helped get rid of the algae again. that advisory has been lifted and it is safe to

tomorrow night and into monday through the whole thing again, looks like it's getting into the sacramento valley as well as we go back to mostly sunny or temperatures set right now. 41 santa rosa on the cool spot there. 55 for san francisco. 48 on the san jose and 49 well inland there for any off with tri valley. also little colder too well in the 40's. what happened? we lost the winds. winds now trailing to the south. you don't have the mixing process with the dry air. so. when you have that, storing can't cool off as easily did get a little bit cooler up north, though. and that's why the contrast is so great. there as the phone, the background, mostly sunny and nice today, 70 ish for the bay lower 70's well inland tomorrow. again, noting that morning fog but clearing out and warm touch warmer at that. and then next week, it's interesting. we start things off and kind of a nice warm note here and all will maybe get up to the middle 70's by tuesday. and then to the latter portion of the week. cloud cover comes back again. and we're looking some showers returning again. that will be after the astronomical spring. but anyway, 66 san francisco,

mostly sunny and nice open coming in at 69. 73 down the santa clara valley. another warm spot to be had 2. so the east bay south bay, get a look at some of the warmer numbers, although to be matched here in the north bay, too. san francisco you're looking at about 66 for high today. will build on that a little bit over the next couple of days here. but it's really definitely flavor spring stuff in the next 4 days or love the sound of that yeah. but rain does come back though. we'll have one extended. that's okay. april showers bring may flowers. there you go. like the positive thanks so much, dave. >> in national news, secretary of state antony blinken is calling on other nations to help fight the fentanyl prices was washington, d.c., correspondent reshad hudson spoke spoke one-on-one with the secretary. >> secretary of state antony blinken is used to dealing with problems on the world stage, but now he is turning his attention to the fentanyl crisis here at home. every city, every state has been affected by the opioid crisis

thursday. blinken travel to vienna for the annual meeting of the un commission on narcotic drugs. he is calling on other countries to do more to stop the trafficking of fentanyl and other synthetic drugs. it's an international problem, not a domestic problem. >> blinken says most of the fit in all killing americans is coming from china. he says president biden has been forceful and getting china to crack down on making the deadly drug. china has put out the regulations. >> telling its companies that they can't involved in this in the strait. it has actually taken down companies that are still many congressional republicans blame the biden administration for the huge amounts of fentanyl coming into the u.s. west virginia republican senator shelley moore capito believes this is a campaign weakness for president biden. he's weak because people don't think he's done enough. >> to stop the fentanyl trafficking and they're right. he has not. >> ohio democratic senator sherrod brown says he has a

bill that will help stop the illegal drugs from coming into the country. it's partly to to send more resources to the point of entry in the border to make sure that we can detect the stuff. brown applauds the biden administration's efforts and says congress has a role to play as well. reporting in washington reshad hudson. >> vice president kamala harris held the white house's first public event on marijuana reform friday. the vp was joined by grammy-nominated artist and philanthropist that joe and kentucky governor andy beshear also in attendance were people who got pardons for prior marijuana convictions. now they spoke but reclassifying marijuana under federal drug law. >> and what we need to do is recognize that far too many people have been sent to jail for simple marijuana possession. and impact is such that taylor black americans and that he knows are 4 times more likely 4 times more

incredible, expensive and limited in some ways. for starters, the headset is heavy and can be uncomfortable. there's a constant pull of a tethered battery pack. here's one thing they don't show in the commercials. what you look like when you take this apple mail, the software you control everything with i tracking hand gestures, siri and hardware buttons. it all works perfectly and feels like the future. however, popular apps are still sparse. there's no netflix. no, you too. entertainment is excellent. it's like watching on the largest screen you've ever seen the picture bright and sharp. the audio loud and clear. apple calls vision pro a spatial computer, which means you can work inside by setting up multiple screens to check e-mail type documents, surf the web and more you can connect a separate keyboard and mouse using bluetooth or use your mac and have your computer screen floating in mid-air. his experience for by kind of car, my laptop more

>> the tsa is testing facial recognition technology at nearly 30 airports across the country. there are concerns over the new system possibly storing data without the passengers consent. the tsa says the technology overall improve safety. and the plan is eventually to expand this

technology to 400 airports. and target is rolling out changes to its self checkout lanes starting tomorrow. it's converting them to express lanes for customers with 10 items or less a target experimented with the idea last year, 200 stores. the retailer says it's all check out was twice as fast at those stores. anyone with more than 10 items must go to a cash register. and new this morning, dollar general is also making changes to check out procedures because it says of ongoing theft issues. the company ceo says that they are removing self checkout, stands in about 300 locations after an increase in shoplifting. ore workers involved in check out to help cut down on the number of deaths. >> of a kind of a nail in the coffin or confirmation we do want to kind of maybe explore other other areas. >> still ahead and open business owner says he is thinking of leaving the city after his restaurant has been

on the southbound lanes of i 6.80. >> because caltrans has logged off a nine-mile stretch of the roadway for repayment project in the fix. those pesky potholes. i-680, will be closed casa boulevard in ramon all the way south to state route. 84 in sunol northbound lanes will remain open, though. the work was initially set to start in january. but due to the rain this year, it was pushed back. caltrans recommending some alternative routes for drivers to take drivers coming from the tracy area can take i-580, westbound to southbound highway 84 which intersects with southbound i-680, and the drivers coming from concord or north of concord can takes out state route 4 to i-80 to i-80 a caltrans also telling us that this project should wrap up around 04:00am on monday. we're back back to studio it funny. thank you so much for your live report.

>> the signatures gathered to recall the alameda county district attorney were turned in early last week. the county registrar of voters there says that they all need to be counted by hand. those votes or rather those signatures to figure out if there is enough support to prompt a recall election. kron four's dan kerman has the latest. >> it may not be until next month before we know if opponents of alameda county district attorney pamela price have enough signatures to force a recall election more than 123,000 signatures were turned in and the alameda county registrar of voters says after using the random sampling method authorized by state law. the results are not sufficient to determine whether the signature threshold has been met. that threshold is 73,195 signatures. as a result, the registrar will now begin a manual count of the verified signatures. the folks that are driving this fails their first big test. >> william fitzgerald, this

with the campaign to keep price in office. they spent millions of dollars trying to get those signatures and yesterday make their tools that but now there's an open question whether that signatures it has a little legitimacy to the signatures. but brenda grisham with the campaign to recall price doesn't see the hand count as a negative. even better. so there's. >> no question that we have what we need, that the people signed. the petition is the petitions legal, the signatures legal. so that's a plus for us. >> but supporters of price are also raising questions about the registrar of voters decision to take additional time to do a hand count. and if you look on the chart of the current rules, >> there's no section in it that says that if it doesn't, if you can count and after 10, 10 days get extra 30 days that that doesn't exist in our meeting. how fitzgerald says the campaign to keep price in office is now talking to lawyers.

>> to see if this extra time his legal. but they say that doesn't mean they won't accept the results. we're going to abide by the decision of the county. we're going to trust them. what we're trying to impress upon folks because the question has been asked, is that there are legal questions over what's happening right now. we reached out to the alameda county registrar of voters office to get some clarification on. >> how much time they have to count the signatures. they didn't get back to us. dan kerman kron. 4 news. >> around this time next year, san francisco streets could have speed cameras monitoring drivers. transit officials are looking to install them at 33 spots in the city. kron four's terisa stasio brings us the details. >> a four-year-old girl in a stroller killed when a driver hit her at this intersection at kean in san francisco, a beloved teacher fatally struck walking to school. just 2 recent pedestrian fatalities on the streets in san

francisco. >> the more we can slow vehicles down, even if it's just by a mile per hour or 2, the higher the chance of surviving. shannon hate those with the sfmta. the agency is moving to install. 33 cameras in critical corridors. >> throughout san francisco in the next few months, it is part of a pilot program funded with the passage of ab 6.45. signed by the governor last fall. >> so san francisco is joint with oakland and san jose. up here in northern california and in southern california, there are 3 cities. unsafe speed is one of the most common factors in crashes that result in injuries or death in the event of a crash between a car, a pedestrian or cyclist, the vehicle speed will largely determine the survivability of the crash. a person hit by a car traveling 40 miles per hour is 8 times. >> more likely to be killed in

>> a 15 year-old is arrested after police say he helped steal a car in vacaville. the moment captured on camera. as you can see there, police say that they tracked the teen down to monterrey. he was booked into jail on robbery and gun charges. the car was found empty in valais hope police have still not found the second suspect in that video. there. the police are asking for your help, finding a woman accused of stealing more than $3600 worth of merchandise from a business. we have an image shared by police. it shows the suspect. police say that the that the shoplifting happened at a store on coma boulevard back on march 4th, anyone with information is asked to please call coma. police. and changes could be coming to the richmond. sandra fell bridge that would limit cyclist and pedestrian access. transit officials say they plan to recommend that those groups use the path only on weekends.

about 2 weeks before most statewide, fast food workers see an increase in the minimum, minimum wage. capitol correspondent eytan wallace brings us the details. >> well, keep in mind, this council includes stakeholders from across the industry, everybody from employees themselves to labor union representatives to franchisees, all of whom say they want to work together to improve the industry. >> the duties upon which i am about to enter congratulation with that oath of office. california's new fast food council became official over time. its members will develop standards, rules and regulations and will gradually increase the minimum wage for california's fast-food industry. both those motions have approved in total. the council is made up of 11 members all appointed by the governor. among them for who are either fast food employees or those representing labor unions for franchisees are business owners to non-voting members and one chairperson at the meeting members shared what they hope to accomplish big some hard. >> too few other workers are

can see no one driving on the southbound lanes of i 6.80, because caltrans has blocked off a nine-mile stretch of the roadway for repayment project in the fix. those pesky potholes. now i-680, will be closed casa boulevard and several mode all the way to south to state route. 84 in sunol, the northbound lanes will remain open. the work was initially set to start in january, but due to the rain this year, it was pushed back. now, caltrans is recommending some alternative routes for drivers today. drivers coming from tracy, the tracy area can take i-580, westbound to southbound highway 84, which intersects with southbound and the drivers coming from concord or nor the concorde can take state route 4 to i-80, or 2. i-880, caltrans also saying that this could all wrap up around 4 o'clock in the morning on monday

morning, one person is dead after a shooting in oakland. it happened around 10, 30 last night on 100 and second avenue. police found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. he died at the scene. police did arrest one man, but they say the investigation is still ongoing. in the east bay. investigators recovered a body in the oakland estuary friday afternoon. alameda firefighter sharing this image with us as crews got ready to get into the water after reports of a man having trouble swimming, the crew deployed rescue teams and search for them. and for about an hour before finding the victim under water, that person was pronounced dead at the scene. officials are working to identify the victim. a judge has appointed a special master to oversee the women's prison in dublin. this part of a lawsuit filed by 8 inmates claiming abuse from some of the prison workers. this also comes after the fbi raided the prison earlier this week as we first reported, agents seized computers and documents since

2021. 7 prison employees have either pleaded guilty or been convicted of abuse. another case is still pending. a member of the boogaloo boys has been sentenced to life in federal prison for the murder and attempted murder of 2 oakland security guards in 2020, robert justice junior was convicted of murder and attempted murder last year. investigators say justice was the driver of the car involved in the killing, a protective services officer. dave underwood and stephen fired the deadly gunshots. justice was also convicted of attempted murder of second federal officer in a drive-by shooting. officials say both justice and followed the so-called boogaloo loosely organized anti-government group that believed a second u.s. civil war was imminent. new details now about a shooting that injured 4 sonoma county sheriff's deputies. officials releasing the 9-1-1 audio and body cam footage. and we do want to warn you

had over $20,000 of weed products at his apartment and in a storage locker along with $17,000 worth of cash detectives say he was selling products to children at various high schools. sanchez was booked into the marion county jail. the united states coast guard is investigating an oil spill after officials say one of its boats accidentally discharged 500 gallons of diesel fuel. this is off the coast of northern california. they say it happened friday morning, but 30 miles offshore of fort bragg are evaluating potential impacts to sensitive sites. they say there are currently no impacts to the shoreline. dozens of protesters who blocked the bay bridge in november to call for a ceasefire in gaza face punishments. a san francisco judge ordered 78 of the 80 demonstrators to perform 5 hours of community service. representatives for the protesters say they have

agreed to pay more than $4,000 in restitution to avoid criminal charges. the money will be given to people who needed to evacuate the bridge during the protest. environmentalist group says it plans to file a lawsuit against the san francisco public utilities commission over sewage that goes into the bay during heavy rainstorms, according to the organization's san francisco bay keeper. 72 million gallons of sewage is discharged into the bay every year. they say that sewage contains bacteria, viruses, chemicals and trash. they claim the city is violating the clean water act. they say the city of san francisco has a combined system that treats both sewage and storm water at the same time, which is different from other california coastal cities. yes, a few sea says the discharge is authorized by the epa and the current system is designed to prevent trash from escaping into the bay. and advisory has been lifted for oakland's lake merritt after some of the water in the lake turn red. the color created fears of an algae

san jose. but this shows you where the cold patches or up north where the winds have alrea4y departed the breakdown for you today. we're sunny all day in the lower 70's into the early afternoon. maybe pinch warmer. looks like for tomorrow. a look at your forecast zone in that extended coming up in a bit stuffing. dave, thank you. >> signatures gathered to recall the alameda county district attorney returned in early last week. the county registrar of voters there says they all need to be counted by hand to figure out if there's enough support to prompt a recall election. four's dan kerman has the latest. >> it may not be until next month before we know if opponents of alameda county district attorney pamela price have enough signatures to force a recall election more than 123,000 signatures were turned in and the alameda county registrar of voters says after using the random sampling method authorized by state law. the results are not sufficient to determine whether the signature threshold has been met. that threshold is 73,195

signatures. as a result, the registrar will now begin a manual count of the verified signatures. the folks that are driving this fails their first big test. >> william fitzgerald, this with the campaign to keep price in office. they spent millions of dollars trying to get those signatures and yesterday to make their tools that but now there's an open question whether that signatures it has a little legitimacy to the signatures. bus brenda grisham with the campaign to recall price doesn't see the hand count as a negative. even better. so there's. >> no question that we have what we need, that the people signed. the petition is the petitions legal, the signatures legal. so that's a plus for us. >> but supporters of price are also raising questions about the registrar of voters decision to take additional time to do a hand count. if you look on the chart of the current rules. >> there's no section in it

wage. capitol correspondent eytan wallace brings us the details. >> well, keep in mind, this council includes stakeholders from across the industry, everybody from employees themselves to labor union representatives to franchisees, all of whom say they want to work together to improve the industry. >> the duties upon which i am about to enter congratulation with that oath of office. california's new fast food council became official over time. its members will develop standards, rules and regulations and will gradually increase the minimum wage for california's fast-food industry. both those motions have approved in total. the council is made up of 11 members all appointed by the governor. among them for who are either fast food employees or those representing labor unions for franchisees are business owners to non-voting members and one chairperson at the meeting members shared what they hope to accomplish big some hard. >> too few other workers are going to. and if that who should time to listen to their work we're listening. and

that's the point of >> my efforts here today. hear what you have to say to listen to it are printed and recommend the legislature and to the department of labor changes that will improve your lives. the meeting comes just before the minimum wage. for most fast food workers will increase to $20 an hour. >> on april, first, some of the meeting noted employees generally support that law but stressed it also left some business owners saying they have no choice but to either slash hours or increased prices. i understand the need to the workers. >> and i'll talk a little bit about that. prevent. understand the needs of the business because we need business has to be successful. but the workers to the success, the minimum wage law also includes an exemption for businesses that bacon sell bread as a standalone item. >> questions arose at the meeting about what power the council has to add additional exemptions. but staff who testified said that answer may not be from until a later

somebody, though, we have a little coating of snow, of course, waiting for you there, too, as well as tahoe. >> little bit of melting, though, going forward. it looks like over the next couple of days. we'll get those temperatures lower to middle 50's little higher into the valley. of course. now what this is kind of a goldilocks kind of melting. it's not like a big heat spikes. kind situations. sometimes you can get to to melting and then you have a problem with flooding and a little bit. and the winds actually do some of that, too, because it distributes the heat a little bit as well. look at live temperatures for you. chilly 40 at the santa rosa. 56 san francisco. 51 hayward, meanwhile, off to tri valley. we're still looking at those chilly cool 40's. 53 for any ocso upstream where we have clear skies. the next couple of days giving us an early next week morning fog. and then by thursday or so, we start to see the pitter patter of rain developing that carries us into the following next weekend. now, this has some nice breaks happening in that weekend forecast of the rain threat. so it will kind of be on the peripherals. it will start things off and then looks like it wants to come

back again on monday. but that's again, far away from this weekend. looking nice now today, 66 for san francisco will keep into the lower 60's along the coast. bumping that up along bay side of that 67 burlingame foster city. 69, 71 redwood city matching that with palo alto. meanwhile, and the santa clara valley lower 70's 73 for san jose. 72 for cupertino, east bay, shoreline and tri valley. also checking with numbers very similar now, don't forget, it was little draw a little cooler well inland. so it's a little bit higher. climbed to make up for that difference. 70 for dublin. 72 walnut creek's total cooler at 66 berkeley, richmond, 68 67 fairfield comes in at 72 along with vacaville. 71 for napa petaluma. you're at 72. so on the left-hand side of your screen, we'll still keep that spring-like feel. and then we get trapped backtrack a little bit into winter like weather with some rain coming our way. and again, another dose, it looks like into the following week, but enjoy those lower to middle 70's next couple of

together. so we're excited about it. it's so eclectic in sausalito with the views you the the the restaurants, the diversity, whether italian or gourmet, mexican writer or we have michelin star. the list goes on and on. so it's a great opportunity for not only locals, visitors as well to either experience a restaurant for the first time or get to know the restaurant again. yeah. such an incredible blend in diversity of options for people to try. and michael, in the just mention that you're one of the first a restaurant tours to want to participate in tell us how it feels to a part of all this and to be involved very excited to see get some of the locally. >> you know, people come from all over the world to visit the area, but sometimes it
