hegenberger corridor. kron 4 s charles clifford has the details. >> well, every year millions of people use the hegenberger corridor right behind me here to get to and from the oakland airport. it is a very important part of oakland's economy. and today, the city in the county wanted to reassure the public that they are working on addressing the issues on monday morning, oakland mayor sheng thao along with the oakland police department, the california highway patrol, the alameda county sheriff's office and community leaders gathered to reassure the public, but they are working on addressing problems along the hegenberger corridor. >> this is a key gateway to oakland and it's a vital element to our city's economic engine. >> the city says that auto burglaries, robberies and larceny along hegenberger have actually decreased over the last year, but admit that there's still a lot of work to do to restore public confidence. the city says they are increasing the number of oakland police officers along hegenberger 7 days a week. they're also adding foot patrols and trust building officers installing security cameras and spending 2 million dollars to add safety ambassadors and private

security to gas stations and other businesses along hegenberger, the california highway patrol which has occasionally deployed officers in oakland to assist opd says they will also continue to be available as needed. the chp will continue can to conduct unannounced. >> search operations alongside our law enforcement partners, agencies in high crime areas across the east bay region. >> we still have a lot of work in front of us and we will continue to do more. this is just the beginning. >> in oakland, charles, clifford kron, 4 news. following unanswered requests to california's attorney general, the campaign for district attorney pamela price announcing its next steps. >> in trying to a vet investigate allegations of signature fraud. the protect the wind campaign was joined by supporters and community leaders this morning highlighting what they believed to be widespread instances of signature gathering fraud all in an attempt to remove price from office. the registrar of

voters receive more than 120,000 signatures in support of recalling price and will be hand counting them to verify that they meet the threshold of 73,000 needed for a recall. the group is calling on the attorney for the northern california district to investigate these fraud claims they send an appeal to rob bonta on february 28th. they say it's gone unanswered. and stewart chen, the president of the oakland chinatown improvement council released a statement that reads, i've stayed neutral till today. i looked into the policies and practices of the da pamela price and she ran on a platform of reform. whether you like it or not, she was elected. she ran on a platform of accountability. she was duly elected and it's time to let her do her job. tonight is the first antioch police oversight commission meeting where members will decide on a commission chair and vice chair. it's part of the city steps towards rebuilding trust between the community and its

police department. after the fallout of last year's rhesus text messaging scandal within the police department and the federal indictments of several officers at the center of that scandal. the seven-member police commission included a variety of ranging from community organizers to lawyers. the meeting tonight starts at 6.30. pre-trial proceedings began today in the case of a 2018 fatal crash involving a tesla walter wings. family is claiming the model x's auto pilot malfunctioned causing with tesla that he was riding into crashed headfirst into a safety barrier on highway 101 in mountain view. his family says tesla misled them. another consumers into thinking that the autopilot system is safe and would handle the driving duties. tesla says autopilot does not prevent all accidents but makes them less likely to occur. also claims that the victim repeatedly ignored warnings to take control of his tesla. the family is

saying an ntsb investigation that wrapped up a year. after the deadly crash said tesla's autopilot system did not properly recognize lane markings before the crash. we've also learned some new details this afternoon into the fatal crash in san francisco. the left 3 members of a family dead and an infant is in the hospital. police have arrested 78 year-old mary lau for allegedly crashing into a family of 4 waiting at a bus stop in the west portal neighborhood. this happened at the intersection of you, lois street and lenox way saturday afternoon, 3 family members were killed. an infant is in critical condition. so the driver now has been charged with 3 counts of manslaughter, reckless driving with bodily injury early injury, driving the wrong way on a divided highway in an unsafe speed and reckless driving. there's a vigil for the family plan to 5 o'clock. tonight. we do plan to have coverage for you later. a public hearing will be held later on this week to

gather public input on the no turn on red downtown expansion project. the project would enhance pedestrian safety by installing new no turn on red restrictions at about 200 intersections. these new restrictions will be focused in the city's downtown north of market and south of market core areas. we're both crash in pedestrian concentration is the highest that hearing is set for friday. all right. we'll talk about the weather right now is a beautiful day across the bay right now. you can see the city. there are no clouds really blocking our view. pilots here now. so we talk about is going on our last day. winter spring starts tomorrow. that's right. it does. it does tomorrow the first day of spring, but it sure kind of feel spring-like right now and it certainly felt like it this weekend. >> wind is relatively calm, although you can see we're picking up a little bit out at the coast here about 60 miles per hour at sfo, 14 in half moon bay, but still not bad. temperatures are lovely. 71 in san jose where it's 74 in livermore. you can see

doubling in the 70's as well. san francisco downtown just hit the 60 degree mark. we're at 70 in nevado check out cloverdale 72 degrees for you so we're having another above average day inland. no doubt about it. and the question is, are get the fog back tonight and we are so you can see about 9 o'clock. you see the marine layer starting to move back in a bit. so as you wake up tomorrow morning, it's going to be very similar to this morning where we've got some of that fog out there, even potentially, i think a little bit of coastal drizzle is possible. but by the time we get about noon, we should start to get sunshine. but all across the bay area. so we do begin our spring officially tomorrow. now it isn't until later in the day at 09:00:06pm, that we have that spring equinox. now, what that means basically is the sun is shining directly on the equator. so if you're in the northern hemisphere, we start to have warmer days that we start to see that that daylight still kind of taking up for a little bit before we start to go in the other direction. we'd also have an interesting pattern happening right now. it's one of the reasons we're getting such a nice weather. is this high pressure, low pressure the

right below it bringing rather dramatic weather, southern california. i'll tell you all about that pattern and when it will break down and we'll talk about our rain chances when it come back in just a bit. sounds good. thank you. after 24 seasons bay area icon and voice of oracle park. we're now brooks moon is parting ways with the san francisco giants. >> the both sides there were in discussions to extend her contract, which expired last december. but both parties there decided to part ways. brooks moon is one of the mlb's first black woman public address announcer. she was also the first woman to ever pa the world series and the first woman to repeat a the mlb all-star game. the organization says the booth at oracle park will be named in her honor at a ceremony that will take place during a future game. and brooks moon released a statement about the parting of ways saying in part as a bay area native, it's

been my honor of a lifetime to serve on the mic and in the community for the giants for 24 years. the job he's always been bigger than me. she goes on to say representation matters and it is my great hope that my time in the booth has inspired little girls, young women and people of color. to pursue their dreams, even if those dreams seem impossible because impossible dreams can come true. the giants, president and ceo larry baer issued a statement following this announcement. recent partner now husband, the familiar inspirational voice for generations of players and fans at oracle park as an ambassador for the organization and a respected leader, but now has been a giant voice in the ball park and in the community and will be a forever giant. it will be a fitting tribute to name the pa booth in her honor and san francisco assemblymember matt handy though, slamming the giants ownership over the decision to part ways with brooks moon on social media. haney says, quote, the giants have decided that after 24

years, the woman who connects so deeply with their fans is expendable. an organization that could definitely use more diversity is announcing it was unable to find a way to keep their most visible non-playing black employee. he goes on to say it's a terrible move for a team whose majority owner charles johnson funds right wing politicians that were supportive of undermining a democratic election and who have tried to disenfranchise black voters across america. brooks mood was one of the few in the giants organization to publicly decried johnson's political activity. she was also outspoken in twenty-twenty in support of black lives matter. it does not take a crazy johnson back conspiracy theorist to connect the dots. kron 4 is your local election headquarters. governor gavin newsom has officially postponed his state of the state address over the very close voting margins on prop one. if passed, that

measure would provide 6.4 billion dollars of additional funding for mental health treatment beds and supportive housing. political experts say its failure would be a setback for newsom who has 2 more years left in office to deliver on the promises that he made to voters. a new date for his address has not been announced. former president donald trump causing some controversy on the campaign trail during the rally that he had this weekend. he warned about a bloodbath if he loses the election and also called immigrants animals. washington correspondent hannah brandt has the latest. trump's remarks are drawing sharp criticism from many democrats and some republicans as well. >> but there are those that are defending him. >> at a rally in ohio, former president donald trump was talking about his plan to tax foreign made cars when he made a dark prediction. we're going to put 100% tariff on every single car. >> that comes across the line and you're not going to be

able to sell those guys. if i get elected. now i do get elected. it's going to be a bloodbath for the whole. that's going to be the least of it. it's going to be a bloodbath for the country. and in his speech, he also attacked undocumented immigrants. i don't know if you call up people in some cases, they're not people in my opinion. these are animals. okay. >> and we have to stop critics slammed the remarks. what does that mean? he's going to exact a bloodbath. there's something wrong here. congresswoman nancy pelosi told cnn trump's comments underscore how important it is for democrats to reelect president biden. we just have to win this election on nbc's meet the press, republican senator bill cassidy also criticized the comments. clearly the president's rhetoric is reflected poorly. many americans continue to wonder should president trump be president? but on cbs, trump's former vice president mike pence defended the bloodbath comments. president was clearly talking about the impact of of imports devastating. the american automotive industry. what congressman mike turner told abc while he disagrees with

>> san jose police are searching for 2 suspects who allegedly shot a young dog in the face. this is the german shepherd named marley did survive the attack. police say it happened on mckee road on january. 11th just before 6.30, in the morning. marley sustained a gunshot wound that entered the skull and exited below the jaw line. her right front paw also injured in this attack. police say 2 suspects are believed to be involved one of the suspects described as a hispanic adult male. >> in his 20's, bill and at the time was wearing a yellow weather jacket and jeans. and

unfortunately, we don't have clear description of our second suspect during an extensive investigation. i was very minimal leads are assaults. unit detectives have decide to seek help from the public ask assistance bringing justice formerly the past. >> a $1000 reward is being offered by the silicon valley crime stoppers for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the 2 suspects. and a warning now for dog owners in san francisco. the presidio trust is closing some hiking trails 2 dogs in advance of coyote pupping season starting today, the park trail stretching from the mountain lake to the presidio promenade and the bay ridge trail from the rob hill campground to the presidio golf course are closed to all dogs on or off leash during pupping season. coyote is are very protective of their pups and may exhibits of aggressive

behavior when they encounter other canines. the trails will remain closed through early september. school back in session today. and power's back our valley high school in pleasanton last night, a fire started in the gym. it was contained and then put out that you can see what it looked like while it was burning the pleasanton unified school district's as wi-fi and phones have also been restored. but there were some false alarms as part of this reset. the district is adding that students started a fire today in a bathroom trash can. and the school is investigating. but as far as last night's fire, the total damage is not yet clear. >> we have not seen damage building >> no one was hurt. 2 firefighters. are still looking into what caused this fire. san francisco fire

rescuing 2 people and their pop. there are say from a cliff at fort funston late last night, the agency posting this picture of the rescue on social media. crews got a call from 2 people visiting from out of town and they found themselves stuck on a cliff after the tide came in that pair and their colleague breed dog had been hiking until after the sun went down. only to find got a little dark and they couldn't find their way back to the trail. coastal rescue crews were able to help them out safely. in the north bay. deputies in sonoma county airlifted a camper who experienced a severe medical emergency at lake sonoma over the weekend. the sonoma county sheriff's office shared this video showing deputies using a helicopter to rescue the camper from the campgrounds. first responders who the patients to an awaiting air ambulance, which then transfer them to a local hospital. and no word right now on the patient's condition. all right. we're taking a live look outside across the golden gate bridge, beautiful breezy

day out there. kyle is tracking what we need to know for today and also this week and how much longer spring kind of weather is going to laugh? yeah, well, at least through this week, we're going to cool down just a little bit as we work our way through the week. but >> this week's looking beautiful. and, you know, we're so they have that fog to contend with a little bit in the morning like we were this morning. but then we get to the afternoon. so we get this all this beautiful blue sunshine, these warm temperatures, livermore just rocketing up there. 74 degrees. now cooler out of half moon bay. we're at 57 and we're really at 60 in san francisco. but you can see if you are inland. we're certainly well above average day today and there's the marine layer kind of hanging out. it will be rolling back in tonight. but for right now, it sure is lovely as we zoom out here, you can kind of see hepicture. we're under the influence of high pressure but low-pressure to the south of us is definitely still causing some dramatic weather in southern california. now, this is called a rex block. when you get this pattern and what it is when you see the jet stream kind of set up this s like pattern, it kind of locks this low and high pressure into staying where they are for a

while and it takes a thing a little dramatic to knock it out of the way. we are going to see that happen. but it will take time for the next few days are going to whether similar to what we've had today. by the time we get to wednesday, low pressure system starting to approach the west coast. we really won't feel the effects of until we get to friday night. but that will, as you can see, not that pattern right out of the way and really change things. and that's what's going bring us a little rain and also the sierra. a little snow says we look into futurecast here. you can see that we stay relatively dry until we get to thursday. you start to see this. the starting to pick up will stay dry on thursday. but by friday evening, that's when the slides in and notice. it's starting to bring that snow to the sierra. so right through the weekend, a little rain for us. a little snow for them. and that late week system, it looks like it's going to provide most of the higher totals to the coastal areas. but having said that, i think will be beneficial rain for us here in the bay area to the north of us in mendocino, looks like you're going to pick up quite a bit of rain. you can see the temperatures tomorrow not expected to be in the 70's like today but we're starting spring and we have

some nice weather right till we get to the weekend. i mentioned sierra snow. i'll be back in a little bit. we'll talk about that time that out for you see can make your plan. thank you. today the supreme court is considering whether the biden administration violated the first amendment by urging social media platforms to remove posts that the administration decided. >> were false or misleading. washington correspondent trevor shirley is in dc with more. the case was brought by 2 republican attorneys general who accuse the white house of being on a campaign of censorship. the case centers on the white house's efforts to combat misinformation, specifically related to covid-19 and the 2020 election. the lawsuit claims the administration colluded with social media platforms to identify individuals and organizations that the white house believed were responsible for disinformation since last year. the case has been making its way towards the supreme court. a lower court previously decided the administration likely had gone too far and urging social media companies to remove

specific content. the counter the government's positions. the white house says the government should be able to work with social media companies to address matters of public concern, especially related to safety. if this court reaches the merits and should reaffirm the government speech crosses the line into coercion, only viewed objectively it conveys threat of adverse government action. >> and because no thats happened here, the court reversed the government has no right to persuade platforms to violate americans. constitutional rights. >> and pressuring platforms in back rooms, shielded from public view is not using the bully pulpit at all. that's just being a bully. >> and the outcome of today's arguments is expected to have a long-term major impact on how the government can interact with social media platforms. the court's expected to release its decision later this spring reporting in washington. i'm trevor shirley. >> still ahead, california's brand new fast food council meeting for the first time with members of that group hopes to accomplish. plus

multi-million dollar racial discrimination lawsuit. this is the second settlement. >> stemming from a lawsuit filed by a windy as a black man who worked as an elevator operator at the company's fremont plant. diaz says his colleagues left racist graffiti in restrooms and regularly used racist language. a federal jury previously awarded him 3.2

>> in the south bay, dozens of schools and santa clara county will receive more than 13 million dollars in grant funding to expand the number of school-based behavioral wellness center's the grants will fund 28 new wellness centers at middle and high schools in the county as well as upgrades too. a dozen exis ing centers. the cente will be staffed by administrator and the clinician who could do screenings and assessments provide counseling referrals to other services if needed. the county's wellness center expansion program aims to help d stigmatize behavioral health issues and normalize self care. >> adolescence for youth

margin. all the more. so why governor gavin newsom says he's not taking any chances. looking forward to the final count. think it's important the upcoming election walking to the state capitol today. governor gavin newsom saying he's watching the election result carefully and with patients. according to the secretary of state's office, more than 200,000 ballots still need to be processed statewide ballots that could make or break the outcome for prop backed by newsom. the proposed 6.3 8 billion dollar bond measure would fund more than 11,000 behavioral health beds. and nearly 27,000 treatment slots for california experiencing severe mental illness or substance use disorders. the governor and the california democratic party believe if passed prop one will make a difference. it's the right thing to do to get people off the streets to get them the treatment and the mouth mental health support. they need to live their lives with dignity. but as of late monday morning, statewide results show the measure is barely passing with 50.1% of the vote. in fact, as of monday, out of more than

7 million ballots cast, the margin between the yes and no sides stood at roughly 20,000 vote as a result. newsom's political action committee. the campaign for democracy has launched a last-ditch effort to reach out to democratic voters whose ballots were rejected for reasons like forgetting to sign the back of the return envelope in a message to supporters the campaign for democracy wrote this ballot initiative is so close that your commitment to volunteer could mean the difference between people getting up the street and into the treatment they need or not. republicans say they hope the governor recognizes when nearly half of those who cast a ballot voted against prop one. i just don't think they have the trust of the state level that what governor newsom is promising is going to. >> deliver. tim rosales says a gop strategist. he notes. newsom said the state address was scheduled to take place today. >> but it's been postponed while newsom's office did not cite a specific reason for solace believes it's because newsom is waiting to see what happens with prop one as its fate hangs in the balance. >> i think the governor needs a win. he doesn't have a lot of winds right now by all

objective measures. california's performance is not doing that great. and so i think the governor is in a is in a place where he really does need to win any count on prop one to be that. and right now looks like it will be a wind just by, you know, by a nose. >> and the new date for governor newsome, state of the state address has not yet been announced. as for prop one result must be certified. no later than april. 12th reporting at the state capitol. a tom wallace kron. 4 news. >> in the east bay berkeley police are investigating the city's first homicide of the year yesterday afternoon. officers found a person stabbed to death on university avenue between san pablo avenue in sacramento street police arrested one person that they believe was involved. meta now under investigation for its alleged role in the sale of illegal drugs. u.s. prosecutors subpoenaed the social media company last year requesting records regarding drug content. any illicit drugs and the sales of those drugs on the company's platforms. both

of meta's platforms, facebook and instagram are part of this investigation. federal investigators are working on this case in partnership with fda. biden says it is constantly working with other tech companies and outside entities in order to screen advertisers and look ready, potential illicit drug content. and annual game developer conference is now happening in san francisco. it's a global game development community that's expected to bring nearly 30,000 members to moscow knee center. this event will feature more than 700 sessions, including talks from makers of critically acclaimed games like super mario brothers wonder the legend of zelda tears of the kingdom and star wars jedi. i survivor this year's conference runs through friday. danger at a half moon bay beach, a boy was skim boarding at kelly state beach yesterday when he went into the ocean to get his board and he got caught up in a rip current to his dad but

rebounded and is a beautiful sunshine today. you can see everyone out there kind of making the best of it tomorrow. we'll see that again as we get into the overnight hours. we'll start to see some of that fog move in and then we'll start to get the afternoon sunshine. and that's going to hold our pattern for the next couple of days. but by friday, we are looking out for some rain coming. it's all back in a little bit. we'll track that. get your 7 day forecast. thank you. more trouble for united airlines on a flight that left sfo this time. the problem, though, was not discovered until the plane landed. >> kron four's dan thorn has the details. >> another issue for united airlines flight leaving sfo after landing at rogue valley international medford airport friday afternoon. united aircraft was found without an external panel. medford airport spokesperson says they were forced to briefly pause operations on the runway to look for any debris. none was found. this is a very minor incident in the grand scheme of things. retired commercial airline pilot doug rice says.

>> the external panel is an aluminum fairing which helps smooth the air against the plane making for a smoother ride. this specific boeing 7.37. is a 25 year-old aircraft. and rice says at that age metal fatigue can set these aircraft, go through a significant amount of maintenance they should be catching these things. what we're learning now is that we have to be more aware of these things as they go through maintenance and double checking and triple checking the this latest issue for united is making some passengers feel uneasy on thursday. a flight approaching sfl had a hydraulic leak with some smoke seen by the landing gear. >> last week, a japan-bound plane lost a wheel during takeoff and had to make an emergency landing in los angeles. and on monday, a united flight bound for sfo from australia was forced to turn around because of a maintenance issue.

health right now. the environmental protection agency has announced a ban on the deadly carcinogen asbestos. the final rule marks a major expansion of epa regulations under a landmark 2016 law that overhauled regulations governing tens of thousands of toxic chemicals and everyday products from household cleaners to clothing and furniture. this new rule would ban the only ongoing use of asbestos in the united states. and that substance is still found in products like brake linings and gaskets and is also used to make larry asbestos exposures linked to 40,000 u.s. deaths every year. a new study is naming san francisco. that tops it in the u.s. for being ev friendly. the study by icy cars found that san francisco has lots of chargers available and has improved its ev infrastructure in the bay area, including san jose and oakland. there are almost 16,000 chargers per 412
