>> from the bay area's local news station. you're watching kron. 4 news at 6. >> right now at 06:00am just the city officials joining a neighborhood in mourning. the loss of 3 family members killed by a speeding suv while they were waiting for the bus. a vigil now being held in their honor. good evening, everybody. i'm vicki liviakis. i'm ken wayne. that crash happened over the weekend in san francisco's west portal neighborhood. >> as you see a memorial put in place where the victims died. and that is where we find kron four's rob nesbitt, where that vigil is continuing for the victims. trump. >> ken and vicki am at the intersection of you. lower street and lenox way in san francisco. this is where the crash happened. you can see behind me where the crowd has gathered for a vigil tonight

where these 3 victims lost their lives in crash. when they started this vigil, they plan on just sectioning off a small corner of the intersection. but they quickly realized the entire street had to be closed off for this large crowd. >> according to san francisco police, 78 year-old mary fallout was driving her white suv too fast down you, lois street when she crashed into this muni bus shelter, hitting a family of 4 killing a man, a woman and a child, the only survivor and infant still in the hospital with life-threatening injuries yet says the family is really heartbreaking because, you know, i can just imagine the family was just enjoying a beautiful saturday then for this to happen and all their loved ones, just, you know, our heart goes out to lau has been charged with 3 counts of manslaughter, reckless driving with bodily injury, driving the wrong way on a divided highway, unsafe speed and reckless driving. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins released a statement monday saying in part, quote, >> there are no words to adequately describe this

tragedy. my office's victim services division has been in touch with the victim's family and we'll work with them closely. the family has asked for privacy as they grieve and work to make sense of what has occurred. a memorial of flowers, cards and other items started growing at the bus. stop over the weekend and walk. san francisco organized a vigil monday at the crash site executive director jody madeira says the city needs more speed cameras and legislation approved last year led 33 cameras by january 2025. the driver had to be going really fast. and we know that speed is the number one cause of traffic related injuries and fatalities. the number one. >> that is what we have to tackle in francisco. police are investigating the crash and say they do not believe traffic engineering was a factor. >> this crash happened in supervisor myriam el guards district and her office says they are working with sfmta in city. public works to improve pedestrian safety and the west portal neighborhood. reporting live in san francisco. i'm rob nesbitt kron 4 thank you, rob. credibly sad all the way

around. >> happening tonight, the city of antioch will hold its first police oversight commission meeting where members will decide onsa commission chair vice chair. it's all in an effort to rebuild trust between the community and its police department. after the fallout from last year's races, text messaging scandal and the federal indictments of several officers involved. the seven-member police commission includes a variety of backgrounds from community organizers to lawyers. the meeting starts in about a half hour at antioch city hall. new details tonight about berkeley's first homicide of the year. police say that the victim was stabbed to death by her own daughter. it happened yesterday afternoon at an apartment complex on university avenue between san pablo avenue and sacramento street. police say they found the victim a 16 year-old woman dead with several stab wounds. the suspect a 23 year-old woman. i was booked into jail on a murder charge.

>> this is the key gateway to oakland and it's a vital element to our city's economic engine. >> oakland mayor sheng thao and the city's police department announcing a 2 million dollar investment today toward addressing crime in oakland's hegenberger corridor every year millions of people travel travel through that area to get to. and from oakland airport, the city says auto burglaries and larceny of gone down within the last year. but what work needs to be done? city officials say that putting more police officers in the area 7 days a week adding foot patrols, installing security cameras and spending more than 2 million dollars to add safety ambassadors and private security at gas stations and other businesses there. the california highway patrol continue to conduct operations in the area as well. sfmta is holding a public hearing later this week to try to get feedback about project that would put no turn on red restrictions at about 200 intersections in and around downtown san francisco

installations would be specifically in the north of market in south of market neighborhoods where there are high concentrations of both crashes and pedestrians. the agency says it's a low-cost measure to try to protect people by keeping crosswalks clear of turning vehicles. that hearing is set for friday. supporters of alameda county district attorney pamela price are saying that the people behind her recall effort. >> committed fraud in the signature gathering process and claim the california's attorney general is doing nothing about it as kron four's. dan kerman tells us the allegations come message registrar of voters is still trying to determine if there are enough legal signatures to force a recall election. >> backers of alameda county district attorney pamela price are alleging her opponents who are trying to recall her. >> committed fraud during the signature gathering process. we have extensive evidence that we've collected from are volunteers. >> from folks who are just living citizens, people who live in alameda county come

that spring-like weather outside? but what we're going to see some changes coming our way. i think for the week ahead. right now, we're still holding on to some very nice weather outside mostly clear skies. so you have a couple patches of fog along the coastline. of course, we head into spring and summer. that's what we're talking a whole lot about. is that cloud cover? but right now you're mostly clear at the golden gate bridge. temperatures yet cool along the coastline. still warm in the valleys, but beautiful out there. in fact, a partly cloudy skies as we head throughout the night tonight. then that fog is going to begin to form and that will be moving the interior valleys. so tomorrow morning we wake up with plenty of clouds early on. then skies becoming mostly sunny. and then it looks like the week ahead. really kind of a nice mild spring pattern kind of setting up spring officially beginning tomorrow evening. and then a possible return to some rain and some much colder weather starting on friday and into next weekend. so, yeah, out the door right now, though, some beautiful number. 67 degrees in san jose is 70 in livermore. 71, a double.

and 76. how about that pittsburgh, a beautiful 74 degrees in vacaville. and 66 degrees in santa rosa. changes are coming our way. we'll have more on that. it's just a few minutes. >> after 24 seasons, a voice of oracle park where now brooks moon is parting ways with the san francisco giants. the team says it was in discussions to extend her contract which expired last december. but ultimately both parties mutually agreed to part ways. crooks moon is one of major league baseball's first black female public address announcers. >> she was the first woman to ever pa the world series and the first woman to pa the mlb's all-star game. the organization says that the booth at oracle park will be named in brooks moons, honor at a ceremony to take place during a future home game. now, brooks moon also releasing a statement she says in part as a bay area native,

it has been the honor of my lifetime to serve on the mic and in the community for the giants for 24 years. the job has always been bigger than me. and she goes on to say representation matters and it is my great hope that my time in the booth is inspired. little girls, young women and people of color to pursue their dreams, even if those dreams seem impossible. because impossible dreams can come true. giants president and ceo larry baer issued a statement following the announcement. reads in part, we're now has been the familiar and inspirational voice for generations of players and fans at oracle park. >> as an ambassador for the organization and a respected leader. arnold has been a giant voice in the ballpark and in the community and will be a forever giant. it will be a fitting tribute to name the pa boost in her honor. san francisco assemblymember. matt haney, though, slamming giants ownership over the decision to part ways.

>> with brooks moon on social media, says, quote, the giants have decided that after 24 years, the woman who connects so closely with their fans is expendable, an organization that could definitely use more diversity is announcing it was unable to find a way to keep their most visible non-playing black employee. and he goes on to say it's a terrible move for a team whose majority owner charles johnson funds right wing politicians that were supportive of undermining a democratic election and who have tried to disenfranchise black voters across america. brooks moon was one of the few in the giants organization to publicly the cry. johnson's political activity. she was also outspoken in 2020 in support of black lives matter. it doesn't take a crazy johnson backed conspiracy theorist. she says to connect the dots. car break-ins by the

>> in the north bay, a police chase ended with 2 people getting arrested in a fiery crash at a santa rosa gas station. take a look. the

crash happened last thursday at the shell station at the corner of corby and hearne avenue authorities say about a week before the crash, the suspects scammed a person by posing as santa rosa police officers and took their phone and credit card information. few days later, deputies say the suspects got a call on the victim's phone from that their tax preparer, the victims, tax preparer and they posed as the victim in his nissan got a tax return in $100 check. that was due the victims. the victim says he found out about the crime when he trying to pick up his taxes. police say 32 year-old jeannette press and 39 year-old jorge gonzales. alvarez are facing several felony charges. the ceo of united airlines is trying to put customers at ease after several mechanical issues with the company's planes, including some that happened right here. >> in san francisco, we've covered them all and aluminum panel off a plane, a plane that lost a wheel of that had an engine fire. and then to

hydraulic leaks, united ceo scott kirby says all of the incidents were unrelated but have heightened the company's importance on safety. he says that he's making pilots take extra extra day of training starting in may and is also implementing training changes for new mechanics. kirby says that the airline is safe and that he'll use what happened in those recent incidents to improve training. >> a judge appointed a special master to over ee the women's prison in dublin. it's part of a lawsuit filed by 8 inmates claiming abuse from prison workers. this also comes after the fbi raided the prison last week. that's where computers and documents were seized since 2021 7 prison employees either pled guilty or were convicted of abuse. another case is still pending. >> and kron 4 is your local election headquarters. nearly 2 weeks after election day, the fate of governor newsom's behavioral health bond measure

prop one. it's still too close to call. our capitol correspondent eytan wallace has more on the governor's last to shut efforts said he hopes will achieve victory. >> what prop one is leading but only by a very tiny margin. all the more. so why governor gavin newsom says he's not taking any chances. looking forward to the final think it's important the outcome of the election. walking to the state capitol today. governor gavin newsom saying he's watching the election result carefully and with patients. according to the secretary of state's office, more than 200,000 ballots still need to be processed statewide ballots that could make or break the outcome for prop one. the back by newsom. the proposed 6.3, 8 billion dollar bond measure would fund more than 11,000 behavioral health beds. and nearly 27,000 treatment slots for california experiencing severe mental illness or substance use disorders. the governor and the california democratic party believe if passed prop one will make a difference. it's the right thing to do to get people off

the streets to get them the treatment and the mouth mental health support. they need to live their lives with dignity. but as of late monday morning, statewide results show the measure is barely passing with 50.1% of the vote. in fact, as of monday, out of more than 7 million ballots cast, the margin between the yes and no sides, roughly 20,000 vote as a result, newsom's political action committee. the campaign for democracy has launched a last-ditch effort to reach out to democratic voters whose ballots were rejected for reasons like forgetting to sign the back of the return envelope in a message to supporters the campaign for democracy wrote this ballot initiative is so close that your commitment to volunteer could mean the difference between people getting up the street and into the treatment they need or not. republicans say they hope the governor recognizes when nearly half of those who cast a ballot voted against prop one. i just don't think they have the trust of the state level that what governor newsom is promising is going to. >> deliver. tim rosales says a gop strategist. he notes. newsom the state address was scheduled to take place today.

>> but it's been postponed while newsom's office did not cite a specific reason. rosales believes it's because newsom is waiting to see what happens with prop one as its fate hangs in the balance. >> i think the governor needs a win. he doesn't have a lot of winds right now by all objective measures. california's performance is not doing that great. and so i think the governor is in a is in a place where he really does need to win any counted on prop one to be that. and right now looks like it will be a wind just by, you know, by a nose. >> and the new date for governor newsome, state of the state address has not yet been announced. as for prop one result must be certified. no later than april. 12th reporting at the state capitol. a tom wallace kron. 4 news >> a bill that will add exemptions to the $20 an hour. fast food minimum wage law is now heading to the governor's desk. should the bill become law fast food restaurants and places such as airport hotels event center's theme parks and museums won't have to raise their minimum wage businesses

that they can sell bread as a standalone item are already exempt. some of said that includes panera bread. but governor newsom's administration says panera will not be exempt after all, most fast food chains must increase minimum wage to $20 an hour starting april. 1st. >> know for our 4 zone forecast as we get a live look at san francisco's embarcadero of the bay bridge off there in the background and not a cloud in sight. blue water blue sky lawrence looks great. yeah. beautiful out there for these girl. and 2 of you notice that the hills agree the flowers are blooming and yeah, that's starting to cause some issues. i think for some people around the bay area. people talking about it. some allergies starting to become a more prevalent as we're seeing the pollen count on the rise, in fact, that sunshine in the warm weather. pollen count right now running medium to medium-high right now around much of the bay area. in fact, the likely stay that way over the next few days. nice weather in place that we get to friday and saturday. the weather pattern begins to change. some cooler air begins

to move in. maybe a little rain to that should begin discover skies from some of that. and that pollen count should begin to fall. but the next few days, running on the high side, all that sunshine, that warm weather really getting things blooming out there all around the bay area. just take a look at the hills. you you can see why. here's a nice down from mount tam right now across the bay in san francisco and the other side of the bay to looking good out there. high pressure you control. really. this ridge been a blocking ridge of high pressure and that has been holding all the storm, sending those well to the north bay, the exception, southern california. they've actually seen some scattered showers popping up there, low pressure, kind of swirling on through nothing too heavy. but scattered showers continuing down across the southland as we head through the evening tonight, maybe a few lingering showers for tomorrow to if you're headed that direction, the bexar, the looking good. we've got a a familiar sight. see there, we're dry. but look at this. you see those little finger of fog. yeah, that's going to be something. we're going to be talking a whole lot more of as we move further into spring. and some are, too, is that all go to sneak

>> pre-trial proceedings got started today in the case of a 2018 deadly crash involving a tesla walter huang's family claims that the model x's autopilot malfunction causing the tesla crashed headfirst into a safety barrier on highway 101 in mountain view. now is family says the tesla misled them and other consumers into thinking that the autopilot system is safe and what handle driving duties. they say that weighing was so confident that he engaged the program and then played video games on his phone before he crashed. tesla says its auto pilot does not prevent all accidents, but makes them less likely to occur. it also claims that playing repeatedly ignored warnings to retake control of his tesla. wayne's family says an ntsb investigation that wrapped up the year and a half after the deadly crash says that tesla's autopilot system did not properly recognize the

lane markings before the crash. meantime, tesla has settled a multimillion-dollar racial discrimination lawsuit. this is the second settlement stemming from a lawsuit filed india's a black man who worked as an elevator operator at the company's fremont now, diaz says that his colleagues left racist graffiti in the restrooms and regularly use racist epithets. the federal jury previously awarded diaz 3.2 million dollars in damages. the terms of the second settlement are confidential. tesla is denying allegations of racism and says that it has a track record of equal employment opportunity. >> still ahead on kron, 4 news at 6, a bloodbath for the country. what former president trump was talking about when he said that could happen if he's not reelected. plus, search underway in san jose tonight for the 2 suspects who police say. shot this german shepherd puppy. we know about those involved and the drug
