101. there was over phil bridge, 7 minutes. and the golden gate bridge. 37 to the tolls. 19 minutes. all the home insurance crisis in california is now affecting longtime homeowners in the bay area because of where they've chosen to live. we talked with a family who's unsure, just drop them while for sara stinson shares all the hurdles and a follow-up. >> right above the homes on santa court in santa rosa. you can still see charred trees from the 2020 class fire that came about 75 yards from our front door, too close for comfort for gretchen and rick mullen, d who have experience 3 fires while living in their santa rosa home for the last 22 years, they have ensured their home with farmers insurance. earlier this month, the couple got a letter from the company saying their policy was canceled field i feel scared. we've never filed a claim. >> and it's all due to our address being close to a

wildfire area. >> that too quickly hired insurance brokers to find a new insurance company. the search that's getting more difficult by the day. and we were denied by 157 insurance companies. no one will take us. i mean, even today i received 7 o'clock. the niles, if the couple does not get insurance, they can lose their home. the state does offer a last resort option. the california fair plan melendez have applied for it, but they say it's not an affordable option. the cost to 6% higher and it's less coverage for us. my husband is retired, run a fixed income. and we don't have a lot of options. gretchen says they can't even sell their home, putting them between a rock and a hard place. my home just got valued. nobody's going to buy my home. know if they can't get insurance and the mullane. these are not alone. thousands of californians are feeling the pain of the homeowners insurance crisis. many companies have announced limiting or stopping new

policies altogether due to inflation and increased risk of wildfires. janet ruiz with the insurance information institute says the insurance industry is working with the state to bounce back in the last 10 years from very >> premium. that wheat we pay down a so that's not really sustainable. but we would we want to be here. we're working with california department of insurance insurance commissioner ricardo, lara, announce a new strategy to keep private insurance companies in the state. all a part of the deal to consider future ris and climate change. one setting prices. senator mike mcguire says legislation needs to be passed to protect homeowners. we need a pathway. >> for that homeowner. >> to get renewed once again in back into the traditional insurance policy. what i'd like is a moratorium to force

these private insurance companies to stay in california at affordable rates that we can pay for insurance to keep a shelter at home for us. >> home insurance, regulation reform is being discussed at the capitol. but people like them a lenghi say if something isn't done soon, they could lose it all and they're not alone. they say their neighbors are going through the same struggles. i'm sara stinson reporting in santa rosa. back to you. >> while the standard 6% realtor commission on buying or selling a home is now coming to an end. it's due to a massive 418 million dollar settlement with the national association of realtors. settlement stems from a federal lawsuit accusing the trade group of inflating real estate agent commissions, most home sellers currently pay about 5 to 6% in commission fees. so for a million dollar home, that's between 50 $60,000 in fees. real estate experts say it could create a more competitive housing market.

>> you list a half or so. there's always a listing agreement. now there's going to be a buyer agreement and it is positive in a way and we're all going to have adjust to not knowing what the commission is on the house. and if a seller is not willing to pay a commission, then we're going to have to talk to the wise about paying a commission. >> all the federal court still has to approve the settlement. developing news, san francisco police have confirmed the infant who was seriously injured in a crash at a bus stop over the weekend has died. the crash happened saturday in the city's west portal neighborhood. police say a family of 4. they were waiting for a bus to go to the zoo when a speeding suv barreled into them killing the parents and their one year-old son. they were identified as 40 year-old diego pardo said de oliveira. 38 year-old matilda moncada ramos, pinto and joaquin ramos, pinto de oliveira. >> if it was hospitalized since the crash. and we also

learned the driver of the suv. 78 year-old mary fong lau still in the hospital, but is no longer in custody. mean, she's free to go home once he's able, but you could still face a number of charges in the coming days. her attorney says lau fully cooperating with investigators. well, the east bay, the cdc released dash camera footage of a freeway shooting on 8.80, right near to 38 in hayward saturday around 4 tuesday afternoon. so you can see the suspect roll down his window, a handgun at the victim's car as it exits the freeway. the victim, fortunately wasn't hurt, but you can see the damage done to their car. investigators identified and arrested the suspect yesterday. he faces multiple felony charges. park officials in the east bay are warning visitors about most harmful algae blooms detected in several parks, including lake chabot conditions like very low water levels, limited water circulation and

duties were not conductive to remote work at the port. also adds that one of the 3 employees retired once they were confronted by the bart police department. that would be tales of deadly shooting that happened in pleasant hill. police say a second person died from injuries they suffered during that shooting. police say peter popovich was working as a cannabis delivery driver tuesday afternoon, a condo complex on twin bridge circle. that's when 2 people who are tried to rob him popovich was legally armed. a shootout ensued. povich was shot and killed. police say one of the attackers identified as 21 year-old trayvon davis was shot and also died after being in the hospital. the other attackers on the run. police have not released a description of that person. a man is accused of having more than 200 illegal guns, millions of rounds of ammunition and homemade explosives contra costa county district attorney's office charging lawrence robert hanssen. 21 counts of

gun-related charges on monday when hanson was arrested by richmond police on sunday for outstanding warrant after threatening staff at a medical center in walnut creek. he is prohibited to own firearms. investigators found 11 machine guns over 60 assault rifles among homemade explosives. hanssen pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail. he's due back in court on march 27th. kron 4 is your local election headquarters. more than 2 weeks after election day. prop one is officially projected to pass that by governor gavin newsom. prop one authorize the state to borrow about 6.4 billion dollars to tackle the state's homeless crisis. the money will go towards housing, mental health treatment programs. opponents have expressed concerns the bomb will supply and throw more money at the problem without generating adequate results. governor reacting online saying, quote, this is a huge victory for doing things

>> okay. >> so we paused the video before shots were fired. now the county sheriff's office releasing this video of when a deputy shot a suspect they say was carrying a gun. say the suspect suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was given immediate medical care. shooting happened back in january after investigators say 2.18 year-olds were involved in a police chase. the chase started in american canyon and it was this crash in vallejo. authorities say police chase both of them until they crashed in the tried to run away. deputy who fired the shots was placed on administrative leave. on what problems of shoplifting and loitering teams now have a bay area. police chief reaching out the safeway executives. so national police chief ronald nelson wrote a letter safely as regional president expressing his concern about the safeway on main just north of the and now the high school. he says the problem of

family was waiting here when a car drove into them as they were heading out for that saturday and will keep it live out here. you can see they've got photos of the mother and the father. and according to officials, they say that it happened on saturday. that family of 4 was waiting at the bus stop to head over to the zoo. and that's when 78 year-old marais thing. lou drove through a low, a street speeding in an suv crashing into the muni bus shelter where the family was sitting killing all for now, the father and one year-old did die there on the scene. and the mother and infant were taken to a hospital. mother died on sunday and that 3 month-old baby died last night. they've been identified as 40 year-old diego cord dl of area. 38 year-old mathilde a moncada ramos, pinto and the oldest child, which was one joaquin ramos, pinto, diyala, the name of that 3 month old baby that passed away last night has yet to been released. and the driver was also injured and was arrested at one point over the weekend

state to borrow millions to tackle the state's homeless crisis. problems will tran is live in walnut creek with the latest on this. good morning. well, >> right at the election was more than 2 weeks ago, but it was so razor thin that prop one was still hanging in the balance. but we know late as last night, governor newsom is confident that it will pass that he actually took to x and our region. his statement in just a few moments. but here's what's at stake now. governor governor gavin newsom's administration, he's already spent roughly 22 billion dollars to tackle the state's homeless crisis with very little results without passing a prop one. what it's going to do is allow the state to tap into more money from millionaires from enacted tax back in 2004 to spend even more money trying to tackle the issue as far as homelessness to get them into mental health services to the

tackle. the drug problem behind homelessness. it also allows the state to about 6 billion dollars more to throw at this issue. it was so razor thin reyna that governor newsom spent about escuse me 13 million dollars campaigning on the issue. opponents of prop one only spent $1000, maybe even then it was right down to the wire. nonetheless, prop one has passed. take a look at your screen. this is what governor newsom took to axe gave his statement. he says the biggest change in california has seen in decades. and this is about 20 years that the last time we've seen this kind of reform arena. now it's time to get to work, repairing the damage caused by decades of broken promises and neglect to those suffering from severe mental illnesses. thank you, california. now opponents fear that this program it's so

highlighting remarkable women in our community, south bay resident, crawford, his pioneer cancer support for over 4 decades because all started when she was diagnosed herself and she says she found services so dismissive. so she set out to make some changes. overs to seal has her story. go behind area here. >> we have a number of weeks and we have trained volunteers who will help you fit. crawford excitedly shows off a well-stocked cancer care point center in san jose. the bag that we send home with patience is really very special as well. and we often give them an arm pillow. some of them have lymphedema crawford knows better than most. she was diagnosed with cancer in 1974. >> i became my own advocate because in those days they were doing things radical mastectomies and i had to search what? >> my options. after winning a
