has now died after a tragic accident. san francisco that happened over the weekend. and this is that case where the families waiting at a bus stop when an suv crashed into them. >> doctors say that last member of the family 3 month-old baby boy died at the hospital last night. whole family is gone. kron four's. michael thomas is at the scene of the accident. michael. >> a heartbreaking to say the least. and this morning, it's sad scene here at this west portal neighborhood. take a look behind me. this is a growing memorial as james and ari mentioned a 3 month-old baby. that was the last living survivor that family of 4 that was struck while they were sitting here at this bus stop by an suv that was speeding in the area and we'll keep it live here for a second. there's a sign that reads grieves with multiple photos of that family. dozens of flowers, tiny little baby shoes that are just heartbreaking to look at. there's even a stroller here. some of them saying, quote, remembering the precious lives

that were lost here last week. and to give you some background, this all took place saturday afternoon. and at that time, the family of 4 was sitting here waiting for the bust a to allegedly heading over to the zoo at that time. 78 year-old mary fun. louis was driving through the area on the lowest street speeding in an suv crashing into the muni bus shelter and killing all 4 members. now, the father and one year-old died here at the scene when the mother and infant were taken to the hospital. the mother died on sunday that 3 month-old baby died last night. they've been identified as 40 year-old diego core do so de ella. very a 38 year-old mathilde a moncada ramos, pinto and the one year-old child that died on the scene. joaquin ramos, pinto deiah live area. the baby has not been named quite yet. now. we did speak with a family excuse me, not family members. we spoke with people here that live in the neighborhood that showing up this morning paying their respects. they say they're still a lot of

unanswered questions when they wake up this morning. it's just a tragedy. i mean, the whole thing from the family and i no idea what happened. >> with the woman who was the driver, that sounds like an awful thing, too, because she 78 years old but was going on. it's just impressed with how much good stuff there is people have left that is really. heartwarming somewhat. >> and the now, when it comes to that driver. well, she also had injuries. she was arrested at one point over the weekend for 3 charges of vehicular manslaughter. now she, however, was let go out of custody. she remains in the hospital and she is able to go home when she is physically capable to. and right now her attorney says she is fully cooperating with investigators. the cause of this crash still unknown back out here live again. this growing memorial with just multiple different items. so i just want to show you guys just a little bit that tiny

little stroller there with the photo of that baby. one of the children, lots of stuff to animals and lots of messages. not only for that mother, that father, but also has 2 children says we get more information regarding. >> what may have caused this crash or if the da decides to move forward with any charges will continue to keep you updated. that's a very latest here in san francisco and michael thomas story. james, we'll send it back to you. thank you, michael. >> 805, is the time. let's head to the east bay now where the chp has released this footage showing a freeway shooting on a tin ear to 38 in hayward. this happened around 4 o'clock tuesday afternoon. we're loop the video again. what it shows is the suspect in that gray car. >> roll down the window and then point a gun and fire at the car as it exits the freeway. the victim fortunately wasn't hurt, but there was damage to the car. there's a bullet hole here in the side. panel. we're also seeing windows shattered by bullet holes. luckily investigators with the help of this video was able to

identify and arrest the suspect that happened yesterday. photos of that. he now faces multiple felony charges. time now is 806. san jose police have arrested a former starbucks employee. >> accused of putting cameras in the bathroom. so kron four's rob nesbitt talks us through what happened. >> it's a disturbing case. san jose police say the camera was installed in the bathroom of the starbucks behind me back in january, the youngest victim caught on camera was just 4 years old. employee at the san jose starbucks on coleman ave. >> first noticed the hitting camera on january 31st under the restroom sink and then called 9-1-1 to report officer tanya hernandez says the camera recorded 91 people the day before ranging from the ages of 4 to 85 years old. these craft, these this recording is graphic and >> includes multiple juvenile victims fully exposed after nearly 2 months of investigating police arrested louis war as junior on friday for possession of child.

has not helped. and now they're saying you're going to throw billions more on top of it. and that's exactly what's going to happen because governor gavin newsom, because prop one has passed by a razor thin marge. and that's why he didn't talk about until last night, even though the election was 2 weeks away, simply too close to call. but last night he decided, yes, it looks like a victory for what he is supporting. he spent 13 million dollars campaigning for prop one because he wants to throw more money at the homeless situation. his administration has already spent 22 billion dollars to try to house them to try to help rehabilitate them prop one. what it does is it will force counties to spend two-thirds of attacks that was enacted back in 2004 against millionaires for homeless housing for mental illness programs. the governor says this is absolutely necessary. this is one of the pillars of

his administration, opponents of prop one. well, they only spent $1000 against for prop one and they barely lost. still a win is a win. governor newsom took to x last night. take a look at your screen. here is what he had to say about the victory for housing initiatives for the homeless. he says the biggest change california has seen in decades needs, right? this is the first reforming about 20 years. now it's time to get to work, repairing the damage caused by decades of broken promises and neglect to those suffering from severe mental illnesses. thank you, california. just to give your perspective, how bad is the homeless situation in california? well, its reported about 181,000 people in our state are homeless. that's about one-third of the homeless population for the entire country. all right. thanks a lot. well. >> time now is 8.11. we're

staging a sleep in on campus this week and he says he decided to do this after what happened on campus last month in which pro-palestinian demonstrators descended on the theater where students had gathered to hear from an israeli speaker. the demonstration got out of hand forcing police to evacuate attendees and move that event to another location in response, hundreds of students, faculty and alumni gathered on campus to say that school leaders aren't doing enough to protect jewish students from anti-semitism. pastor says his goal, it's simply to get the attention of administrators. >> i wanted to find a way to protest. that was not confrontational. that sent a very clear message of support for 2 students. that was perhaps a little for campus administration. but i also didn't want to embarrass the campus in some way. the campus knows that at the summit is a serious problem at berkeley. the campus is trying to address it as best it can maybe needs to move a little

if things go as planned by twenty-thirty to more than half the new cars sold in the u.s. would most likely be 0 emission, but a lot of problems need to be soft, including getting enough charging stations. more than 172,000 were installed last year. some analysts say the nation will need more than 2 million by 2030. and overall the public's appetite for electric cars has been slipping. >> reason for this, a lot of people discovered that he made a place in the battery is expensive for the for the you know, if i tried to charge at that home, it's going to take a little time. there's station for 2 charges my car close to where i live. so those kind of infrastructure problems they need to take care of it. >> and of course, the issue has already been politicized. donald trump has promised to undo various climate change policies. if he is re-elected. president biden says the plan

college park high school. we have video showing how dui looks like that's all part of the every 15 minutes program, which is a two-day program teaching students the impacts of driving under the influence and what could have on their community. the collision will be staged on the football field. it will begin at approximately noon and it will last for about an hour during the mock collision. there will be a high concentration of emergency vehicles and sirens in the area. police want to alert the community that there is no real emergency at the school. again, it's a mock dui crash to teach the students a lesson. >> 25 right now and for your money since the launch of a new program to help kids save money for college, only a fraction of low-income families have actually claimed the money the state launched cal kids in 2022, it creates a savings account puts between $500 to $1500 for low-income kids to use for college or for

a career after high school. but according to the state, just to 8% of the about 3 million eligible kids have access their accounts in the bay area. there's 33,000 eligible students in san francisco and only about 5% have claimed their cal kids money in alameda county. more than 100,000 students are eligible, but just 8% have claimed their accounts. officials say this is likely due to lack of awareness about the program. now that, you know, a new study by smart asset determines how much a person needs to make in order to live comfortably in california. a single income household without kids you need to make about at least $89,000 to get by a single person with no children in the bay area needs to borrow a make about 119,000 to live comfortably. it's a 27 and

especially of color. that's why he and others here say they're backing assembly bill. 1990, also known as the stop act. it authorizes an officer to make an arrest for misdemeanor shoplifting offense. >> even if the defense was not committed in the officer's presence, all the officer would need is probable cause to believe the suspect is committed shoplifting. the goal putting a stop to retail that los remember when the country a lot of the legislation, she points out, a major part of the bill will allow officers to formally arrest and book a misdemeanor shoplifting suspects into jail instead of simply citing them and then releasing them that she says happens all too often today feeling the security from. >> a law enforcement to be able to actually arrest and book someone. it's a big difference. it's a sentiment shared by republican assemblymember one on these springs. real and this helps public safety as well. especially our retailers who have gone without any help for many, many years. most importantly, it will make a difference in retaining jobs in california as we continue

has died from injuries of being shot in that it's peter popovich. he was working as a cannabis delivery driver on tuesday afternoon. and i went to this condo complex on twin bridge circle. and that is where 2 people who were armed tried to rob him. >> popovich was also legally armed. it was a shootout and popovich was shot. he has now died and one of the attackers. 21 year-old travis or trayvon davis also ended up dying after going to the hospital. the other attacker, though, got away. police don't have a description of that person. >> well, a new class action lawsuit was filed against french laundry or french luxury brand hermes over the company's sale of its famous birkin bags. sober kinser only sold in physical stores. some of them cost as much as $100,000. even more the suit filed in san francisco's federal court claims that hermes unlawfully requires customers to buy other remains

products before being allowed to buy a ber can. now the lawsuit asked the court to block remains from engaging in these alleged actions. it also seeks an unspecified amount of monetary damages and restitution. there are 3 stores in the bay area. one in san francisco's union square and another in palo alto. and the 3rd is actually inside sfo. in the north bay. several winemakers are served with federal subpoenas, least according to the la times, many of the place is named are baffled by the probe in napa valley. officials claim they know nothing about it. some speculate it might be connected to napa county supervisor rosa, who's engaged right now in a conflict of interest land deal involving a family member, but that rosa was not named in any of the subpoenas and the fbi bureau in san francisco has declined to comment so far. >> now a story you'll only see here on kron 4 home insurance crisis in california is affecting now long time

homeowners in the bay area too around a lot. they they kick ensure living too close to the woods. in fact, one family that we spoke to say their insurance company just drop them. >> kron 4 sarah stinson has their story. >> right above the homes on santa court in santa rosa. you can still see charred trees from the 2020 class fire that came about 75 yards from our front door, too close for comfort for gretchen and rick mullen, d who have experience 3 fires while living in their santa rosa home for the last 22 years, they have ensured their home with farmers insurance. earlier this month, the couple got a letter from the company saying their policy was canceled field and i feel scared. we've never filed a claim. and it's all due to our address being close to a wildfire area. >> that too quickly hired insurance brokers to find a new insurance company. the search that's getting more difficult by the day. and we

were denied by 157 insurance companies. no one will take us. i mean, even today i received 7 o'clock. the niles, if the couple does not get insurance, they can lose their home. the state does offer a last resort option. the california fair plan melendez have applied for it, but they say it's not an affordable option. costa, 6% higher and it's less coverage for us. my husband retired, run a fixed income. and we don't have a lot of options. gretchen says they can't even sell their home, putting them between a rock and a hard place. my home just got to tell you nobody's going by my home know if they can't get insurance and the mullane, these are not alone. thousands of californians are feeling the pain of the homeowners insurance crisis. many companies have announced limiting or stopping new policies altogether due to inflation and increased risk of wildfires. janet ruiz with the insurance information institute says the insurance

>> it's a 43 in the south bay. santa clara county is getting 14 million dollars from the federal government for community projects. and they're going to spend some of that money on 100 year-old bridge, $850,000 to be exact secured for recue reconsttuction of the mcclellan road bridge in cupertino. it's a major east-west connector above stevens creek. but it's been poorly rated by caltrans originally south bay council ro khanna asked for 2.5 million to fix it. he says the bridge is not adequate for pedestrians and cyclists and

fire lately for its skyrocketing cost of electricity. when comparing all 4 major california utilities pg and e ranks 3rd. >> well, ongoing problems of shoplifting and loitering. teens have a bay area. police chief now reaching out to safeway for help. so so vast will police chief ronald nelson wrote a letter to safely is regional president expressing his worry about the safeway on north main just down the street from an early high school. he says the problem of high school kids loitering and engaging in theft is creating problems for customers, especially in the afternoon when school gets out. in a letter, chief nelson that his department has been providing additional patrols during those after school hours, but they don't have the resources to do that all the time. so the chief wants safe way to hire security and loss prevention, staff and work together with police to solve the problem. a state police spokesman told us that they are looking into the chiefs concerns and we'll see what they decide to do.
