>> tonight at 5.30, a new proposal could bring a full service grocery store to the tender. look, the resolution from supervisor. dean preston calls for the city to study the possibility of bringing a supermarket to that neighborhood. kron four's gayle ong reports. >> after double double stores to get on to grocery staple. jennifer bowlen, legislative aide for san francisco supervisor. dean preston is working on a resolution calling on the city to bring a full service grocery store to the tenderloin. a lot of times they have to shop around to getethem at prices they can so they want to do one. 3 all over there, family of himself basically have a lot over half a mile outside of the tenderloin with the take public transportation, some corner markets have stocked up on fresh fruits, vegetables and meats. but options are limited. joshua lowe lives in tenderloin and supports the resolution, though the coroner really expensive. story.

homicide that happened back in december of 2016. police say lindsay mccollum and eddie tate were shot and killed inside a wooden box they were living in. it happened at the corner of 16th street and south van ness anyone with information on this, sir, shooting and homicide. and you know this person of interest are asked to contact san francisco police. >> a second victim has come forward alleging abuse in an amended civil rights lawsuit filed against the san ramon valley unified school district. a former teacher civil rights lawsuit against the san ramon valley unified school district and a former teacher and arts teachers been amended to add a second plaintiff referred to as jane doe number 2, just like jane doe. number one, she claims the teacher groomed and sexually abused her more than a decade ago while she was a student at san ramon valley high school. a report was filed with law enforcement in 2012, but no charges were

filed, which is why kron four's not sharing the defendant's name or picture. however, the attorney in the case says that educator is still working in the bay area. >> the past several years, he has been advice, principal. at a reputable private k through 12. school and the east bay ice shutter to think about what i know about this man, how much damage he cause there. >> now that a second plaintiff has come forward, a formal request has been made to law enforcement to reopen the case. the senate remote valley unified school district responded to our inquiry by saying, quote, we take these kinds of allegations very seriously, because this is active litigation. our policy is to not comment. the city of san mateo is agreeing to pay 35 million dollars to settle a abuse lawsuit involving a former police officer. there.

birthday. the couple leaves behind 2 young boys, 2 year-old mason and 11 year-old traffice. her father says he and his wife are now trying to figure out what will come next for the boys after suddenly losing both parents. >> he's like, you know, the rules of the rooms, exactly what they have to everything is going to be the same. so they're trying to everything as normal as can. but when i collect them to >> chp is still investigating what caused that crash? in monterey county. the couple wrongfully accused of staging a kidnapping in vallejo in 2015 is speaking publicly about their experience. >> the story of denise huskins and aaron quinn was recently featured in a netflix documentary american nightmare this weekend. it will have been 9 years since denise huskins and aaron quinn were wrongfully accused of staging denise is kidnapping. the couple was restrained and drugged. denise was kidnapped

and then rapes by matthew mueller. when aaron awoke the next morning he reported the kidnapping toledo police, but was almost immediately made. the main suspect in denise is disappearance. today they spoke to police in seaside, hoping that by sharing their story, they can keep this from happening again. >> clear in their eyes and no longer. a victim. am a suspect. >> you don't have to believe every person who comes to speak to you. but as soon as you say, i don't believe this person. and that cuts off the opportunity for you to find out more. >> matthew mueller here was sentenced to 31 years in state prison for kidnapping huskins. he's also serving out a 40 year sentence for federal crimes. huskins and quinn, one to 2 and a half million dollars settlement with the city of vallejo. but to this day, no one from the city's police department. they say has directly apologize to them for what happened. >> california is one of 16

states joining the justice department in suing apple in an antitrust case. it's over claims the bay area based tech giant has a monopoly over the phone market that is hurt consumers kron four's. catherine heenan is here in studio with details. kat, front. >> well, we know the federal government has been cracking down on big tech has a vote today. that includes apple. this is a lawsuit that could be a big challenge to the reach and influence of the company. it accuses apple of maintaining an illegal iphone monopoly. if left unchallenged. >> apple will only continue to claiming the company tightly controls how people use it and violates antitrust laws with practices designed to keep users reliant on apple devices. examples. the company is accused of making it tough

for competitors to integrate with the iphone. ultimately raising prices and alleging that apple is blocking rivals from accessing iphone hardware and software features even intentionally reducing the quality of messages between iphones and other smartphones. we allege that apple has consolidated its monopoly power, not by making its own products better by making other products worse. we allege that these this behavior has been ongoing. >> for essentially 15 years. plus. >> california's attorney general says it's as though apple has created a moat around its kingdom. apple meantime calls the lawsuit wrong on the facts and the law saying it will put up a vigorous defense. the company argues if the lawsuit succeeds, it will hinder innovation and lead to the government. taking a heavy hand in designing people's technology netchoice a trade association that advocates for

>> i welcome back to kron. 4 news at 5 as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge clouds moving in today. bit of a transition day before both. the hammer comes tomorrow. >> yeah, lawrence have been trying to push it off for days and days and it's finally here just trying to ignore kind of like fun and school right they're not going to come, but eventually they do no matter what taxes to ryan giggs act. lee. yeah, we've got a big change in the weather coming our way. it looks like high pressure that's brought really just some gorgeous weather from the bexar temperatures, the 60's and the 70's, everything in blue and green. >> around the bay area will now we're going back some real wintry weather. again. a couple high clouds moving

overhead again today. another gorgeous day outside. but yeah, that is all about to shift gears again. look at the numbers, though. 73 degrees in san jose 70 and learn more today, 70 in conquer to all around. just some very nice weather with temperatures running above the average for this time of year. but things are about to switch gears tonight. yeah, we'll see some partly cloudy skies as we head through the night tonight and tomorrow morning and then we'll watch those clouds increasing throughout the day. the rain, well, it could take some time to get to the south bay. you can see the rain moving in the north a first by tomorrow morning. the wind's going to be wrapping up along the coastline to some gusty winds, maybe some 30, maybe some 40 mile an hour gusts with the system to especially along the coastline and the weekend. yeah, i would say it's a complete rain out, but we're expecting showers. a lot of showers on saturday. a few showers lingering possibly on sunday with much cooler temperatures throughout the weekend. so here we go. he's getting active in the pacific and just about to take a california again and the bay area bringing with that a series of a cold storms rolling on in for the next

about 7 to maybe 14 days as we're going to see a very unsettled weather pattern here. thank you. see the first one coming on shore by tomorrow afternoon. and then on the back side, you see the little swirl here with that kind of just rolled down the coastline, bring us more cold showers, maybe some isolated thunderstorms as we head into saturday to maybe some hail out there as well and much cooler weather. tons of snow up in the sierra nevada, lingering shower possibly on sunday, although doesn't look like a whole lot. and then that start to clear out briefly, but still a slight chance of showers. another weak system sliding by on monday. and then we get ready for a bigger storm that coming in about the middle of next week. some more rainfall moving through behind that. guess what? yet another one next friday and into next weekend, too. so you get the idea these storms will start to add bringing some significant rain. i think this may very well push all rainfall totals around the bay area above average for the year. how about that? that be something else 50's 60's for tomorrow. you may hold onto one 70 in the south and the san jose area. that's because take a long time. that storm to move on rain on and off throughout the weekend and into next week to these temperatures running well

below the average we go from the 70's. they were trying to avoid that. now we're going to be down the 50's and the 60's. a much cooler weather throughout next week and probably for the next couple of weeks we had and april, back to the cozy clothes. yeah. talk colors for a second silver lining is the green hills. yeah. fantastic. hear them around. keep those around. keep things from turning brown so fast, more flowers will pop up. yeah. >> i'm glad you guys are looking on the bright what i've also heard, though, obviously it's i'm wondering if it's going to delay some of the bears from coming out of hibernation. they forget about. we are talking a little bit about hibernation mountain towns in california are bracing for an invasion of bears throughout the state. >> up to 40,000 hungry bears are on the hunt for food to slide right into this story. patrols are stepping up around the state, but residents in one village say. >> they have already seen at least a half-dozen bear encounters so far this year.

and most of the 2800 residents in the remote village of pine mountain club live behind electric fences and mats to try to help keep the bears away. this is a big thing there. wildlife officials call the situation in pine mountain, a human black bear conflict zone. and this season is already trending worse than last year. but people reported more than 500 encounters. is not responsible protecting people's property from bears per se. but they do have bear hazing patrols where if a bear spotted, they try to scare it away. the massive mammals have broken through doors and windows and even through roofs in order to get whatever food is inside. so this is a whole situation there. one house even burned to the ground after a bear climbed onto a stove. accidentally or not turned it man james weinstock has lived here almost 30 years. he says.

>> he loves the bears and takes videos when they show up on his property but he did recently have an encounter after finding a hungry bear stealing some fish from inside his house. >> i had a baseball bat use the chase him away and it wouldn't hurt. it was one of those little kitty baseball bats came after me back the area. and so you can see of it now. but when a bear scratch is you they don't scratching like that. they have a big chunk of sure. flesh is i should let him finish the fish. >> james was fine. of course he did admit it was his own fault with development and wildfires cutting into the food supply for california bears the bear battle is spreading with hundreds of sightings and food. that's even in suburban los angeles during the summer months, bears are often captured, enjoying those backyard pools down there. some of learn

decades. now, her cause all started when she was diagnosed and she says she found services so dismal. she set out to change that. make a bet force theresa stasi reports. if you go behind area here. >> we have a number of weeks and we have trained volunteers who will help you fit. crawford excitedly shows off a well-stocked cancer care point center in san jose. the bag that we send home patience is really very special as well. and we often give them an arm pillow. some of them have lymphedema crawford knows better than most. she was diagnosed with cancer in 1974. >> i became my own advocate because in those days they were doing things radical mastectomies and i had to search what what my options. after winning a battle crawford set to work helping others face down that demon. >> devoting her life to guiding people through the

early often confusing days of a cancer diagnosis. she is the most passionate. >> advocate for best work. >> we would not be here or doing the things that we can do. >> if it weren't for her heart. don hoak is executive director of cancer care point. >> she has lost count of how many people crawford is touched throughout the years. she's a blessing. jenny maggot lost her husband and daughter to cancer. she recruited crawford into hospice of the valley. back in 1978, what are you most grateful about with her? her ability to sense. >> what's going on? not only with the patients because she was a patient or but also what was going with families. with involvement, cancer care point here.

>> craig kids has helped 20,000 families with children who have cancer once a year. the group holds a mother's day event. >> i'm great america. they come from all over california. some in nevada they look at it as a picnic they can being with other kids, not in the hospital. >> plaques. newspaper clippings and other mementos tell the story of crawford's 50 year career as a cancer fighter volunteering with more than a half a dozen other programs in an advocate for volunteerism. all my life. crawford also had a hand in creating a state cancer registry, which collects invaluable research data that can be used to save lives. nothing has stopped or not. a second cancer diagnosis back in 2004 and certainly not her age. crawford recently turned 80 telling friends and family and her husband roy retirement isn't an option. >> rhinos at dinner time, the
